I honestly believe the Prince of Persia series is underrated. A lot of the ideas and mechanics from Assassins Creed and Uncharted series got it from older Prince of Persia games.
I do not think it is underrated. I think that AC was a breath of fresh air that substituted it for quite a while since there is plenty of opportunities than just something set in Persia. I think it had a great run, but we can see from this game they are trying to go in a good direction. It still won't be as famous as AC in my opinion.
Ubisoft has tons and tons of creative developer. It just the higher ups are utter moronic with their bussiness decision. "I like the game but it's getting hated by our consumers? Double it down! Shove it on their throat! I enjoy it so they must enjoy it to!" -some stupid higher ups on ubisoft
I like it. But…. I don’t like the linear 2d decision. The freedom we had in the magnificent 3d original was truly amazing. I still find that 15+ year old game superior. I don’t like being restricted going left to right for this type of adventure. Fun. Good combat graphics, sound etc….But I wanted to open up that beautiful world I saw behind our beloved character.
There’s a lot of things I love about this game but one of them that really stood out was the intricate platforming sections that take practice to get through.
As a solo developer making an action platformer I am really interested in all the decisions development teams make when it comes to, mapping abilities to certain buttons, parallax backgrounds, partical effects sound design, UI. UNDOUBTEDLY GOTTA HAVE SOME SORT OF MAP OPTION
Thanks for the preview. I need to check out the demo! I'm a Prince of Persia fan since the DOS days where I used to "speed run" it. I loved that game and most of its successors (well, not PoP 3D) and the AC games it spawned.
That always seems to be the pattern. The majority of games that have demos available are the ones that review very well. I feel like demos should become a mandatory thing for games. It will force these companies to develop the game at least well enough to present to the masses rather than the typical 'release now fix later' model.
Sony and Microsoft don't do enough to force/promote devs and publishers to make pro gamer decisions. It's THEIR platform and store, if they wanted to they could have a demo be mandatory. They could be strict in making sure games have a baseline level of polish. Mandatory quality/performance modes as well as an uncapped framerate mode for when the next console comes out, so that games will automatically get resolution/framerate boosts via backwards compatibility. T Hell, they could even have a rule that devs who've made a game within the last 8 years must go back and patch their previous games that are in need of higher resolution/better framerate. This would help bring consoles up to speed with the PC and its vastly superior backwards compatibility. There's so much more they should be doing to bolster console gaming. None of these things are unreasonable either, nor do they require "that" much work. They don't do this because they don't want to "restrict" companies. They cater more to publishers than gamers. Steam on PC is doing much more for their customers than the console makers and that's damn shame but we've been trained to sort of accept the bare minimum. Just look at how awful the return policies are (esp Sony)! If you so much as download a game you cant get a refund even if the game is broken and sold on lies.
For me, the surprise wasn't that the game is good. The surprises were how big the map is, how well done the platforming is, how fair and difficult, at the same time, it feels, and how great the combat system is. You can make amazing long combos againts small enemies (not at the level of DMC5, of course), and have stylish epic fights againts bosses. Some of them were among the most epic boss fights I've ever seen in a videogame. The platforming is well done, and fun, because it wants the player to do everything almost perfectly at times. Puzzles are great. Even tho the story and lore barely works, I want more of this. There are many games of this genre, but there isn't one doing everything The Lost Crown does. It's a really nice mix, which makes it quite unique. A lot of people compare it to Hollow Knight, but I think it has a lot more in common with Strider.
The screenshot features should now be included in all future Metroidvania games! Best features in a long time! No need to use the Switch screenshot button anymore hehe I'm so excited for this game! Metroidvania are my best style of games! Cannot wait for next week!
Great Video Jon(SW). Yh since Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was first Announced and it was a 2D Action Platformer, I was hooked and with every Trailer, it just looked better n better plus really good n fun. I am glad it is a really Good Game and I am looking forward too checking out the Demo before the Full Release.
The switch version of Prince of Persia and the lost Crown is the lead platform, and it shows and hats off to Ubisoft. They are one of a few developers outside of Nintendo that can get the best out of the switch hardware..
I really enjoyed the demo and didn’t expect to play so much of the game I was wondering if Ubisoft screwed up and gave us the full game. It plays really well on the switch too. I’m looking forward to play the full game next week.
I've played for roughly 7 hours this far and I'm having a blast. I'm not very good at parying so I'm trying to play as offensively as I can. The platforming is challenging and tight. I just might go for 100% completion.
Played the demo on the Xbox One X and looked and played really good ....I think I'll be picking this one up, glad it made it to all platforms where no one will miss out and it seems very much optimized with more pates to come I'm sure.
If you think about it Warrior Within was MetroidVania in many ways.. I’d love to see a remake of that one even tho it was challenging and had a lot of frustrating elements.. This seems like a great step back for the series granted it feels more like a side story as you’re not playing as the Prince himself.. I made sure to preorder even though I knew I’d be somewhat broke after the holidays! I used to dedicate Fridays to playing PoP so maybe I need to go back to doing this & take a little break from FF
It looks really good and fun! 👍 Can't wait to try this on for myself. Personnally one of my most anticipated game this year! Looks like they nailed it with the high metacritic scores
That "member of the royal family" that you're supposed to rescue is actually the prince from all the previous games. You should have pointed that out since it's not just some prince from any royal family... Sounds like this game can be finished in under a week so I may just get it on Ubisoft plus for $15
@@lexlopez15 yeah it’s a spoiler. Also algorithm been showing me this stuff lately bc of the dlc. Also there is not one prince across all the prince of Persia games they are all different characters. But who actually is the prince of Persia is a really weird and complicated. I just don’t want to spoil the mediocre story of a game I love
That's awesome that it's a good game I'm gonna need to pick it up as my first and only POP game was Two Thrones which I played as a kid and loved it sm. Bought it on Steam to realize the game glitches on a segment after a stallion battle where you have to lower down a chain and that's where it glitches and brakes the progress of the game. So I'm gonna replay two thrones on my ps2 emu.
They were strongly inspired by Metroid dread. Recipe is excellent. For price point, I'll wait for a sale. Afterimage is in sale right now. Very Symphony of the night sort... Very good game for ps5.
Just looked at the trophy list, it seems relatively easy in mostly requiring 100% with no difficulty related trophies. Not that this would be my primary reason for playing/ not playing the game but it does seem to be one to pick up for an easyish Platinum.
I wish I played this game earlier. This is close to a masterpiece in my book. The controls feels incredibly tight and the combat and platforming is very fun.
I'm shocked to hear you didn't really like the story. While it isn't something ground-breaking it was the story that kept me going in the game aside all the other good points you mentioned. This game is a fantastic metroidvania and game. Everyone should at least give it a go! Totally recommend.
It’s a pretty nonsensical bloated mess but it has some really interesting Reddit threads. Some of the characters really weren’t well done especially varham. Not sure why people love him so much other then thinking he looks cool. His characterization was pretty much botched
I ran into very specific glitches playing, for example there are these cylinder with spikes on top and bottom, I could sometimes land on top of spike cylinder edge and stand on it no issues
I don't care what anybody says the game looks like a lot of fun!!! Simple graphics and fun gameplay! This reminds me of the PS2 era when creativity and fun was the focus instead of the latest in tech and corporate greed wasn't so bad and tons of fun games being released every year. @@jimmythegamer2231 Same thing with Devil May Cry. It was originally meant to be Resident Evil 4!
It's interesting when Ubisoft actually let a dev have enough time and creative control, they're actually able to make a good game

Great review, Jon! Cant wait to pick this up next week.
Looks good, from early reviews to now. I can't wait for next year when it comes out on Steam!
For those of us that have been paying attention, we knew the game was probably going to be great. the developers of Rayman Legends don’t mess around.
The demo was enough for me to check it out! Excited to jump in!
Glad that it s getting good reviews. People tried to cancel this game because of the main character. It got so much push back when it was announced.
I also beat the game yesterday literally! and I dare say it's up there with Metroid, Ori and others.
One of the composers on this did work on the ori soundtrack!
Lookin forward to it. Dark Light is another 2D action platformer that releases January 30th on PlayStation; it looks real good as well.

Biggest problem with the game is that there aren’t enough fast travel points, so you can explore areas you’ve already been to when you get new powers.
There was an update that added something for that. Makes 113% much easier

Does the easy mode help with difficult platforming? My 6 year old loves platforming but struggles with coordination on difficult combos
The PoP The Lost Crown will be the 1st Ubisoft game i've bought in over a decade
Where would you rank it compared to Metroid dread. Both overall and in terms of difficulty?
Jon that review was beautifully read from a script
