As a brother of a sibling who owns and operates two JLR franchises not because of the “Best 4x4xfar” played for the public but the income it suggests (even though the warranty work is crazy) is very lucrative for the family member…
JLR vehicles are poorly constructed, parts are not substantial, quality just isn’t there even though the engines used in Europe are not the same as used in the US (variants) electronics still fail engines with or with a SC continue to fail, the diesels have issues, they’ve even had UK JLR factory technicians fly over for few weeks at a time trying to figure out the issues.

Mate of mine just payed £106000 for his. Just taken it in for the 1000 mile run in service check and when he asked if everything was OK they said " yes just a little oil leak on gearbox but nothing to worry about yet". I was daft enough to have 2 and both threw out so much transmission fluid I had to have my drive re- block paved. My wife and I used to try and guess the stance of ours in the morning as the air suspension would constantly play up and leave the rear or the front on the ground. When they work they are great but you know when it's getting bad when your on fist name terms with the recovery drivers.

I totally agree with your review. I have just swapped my 2018 P525 Autobiography for a newer low mileage 2020 SV Autobiography P565. This has every option imaginable and is almost too powerful and harder riding than the P525. I can safely say that the P525 is the best and most satisfying car I have ever owned. It was a beautiful Dark Metallic Racing Green with a Tan Leather interior and always felt really special. I have gone for the the 2020 SV while I wait for my series 5 to arrive. Pity about the change of engine from the 5L V8 supercharged to a 4.4L BMW V8 Twin Turbo in the new model. I have really like the 5L V8 , the economy is quite respectable. I think the P525 2018 model is an extremely hard act to beat!

Just worked out I first drove a Range Rover 42 years ago! I have owned them for 35 years. They are the best. You have to put up with occasional sarcastic reliability comments mainly from those who have never owned one and who keep surprisingly quiet when their BMW is in for repair. The Range Rover versatility and driving experience makes it worthwhile though. Nobody does it better - as Carly sang.

    • @johnmalin1676
      @johnmalin1676 2 роки тому +2

They only go wrong because people don't get them serviced correctly. The Majority of the issues regarding the RR, is the air suspension. But, its a luxury that sets the RR aside from the competition, so, if you bare this in mind when purchasing, and set money aside for when you do have issues, you can get it sorted. Plus remember, you can usually still drive the RR when there are Air Suspension issues.

I replaced both myself and all good. Now has 115k miles. We just added a 2020 RR SV Autobiography this week. Only 22k miles on her and she's a beauty. Sadly my recent ownership experience of an approved used RRS was poor. 3 electronic faults that caused the car to cut out and a diesel leak, combined with a dealer that supplied me with a hire car without functioning aircon and for a weekend only when the car hadn't even started being worked on convinced me that for all the good things, I was going to have to pay a high price in wasted time. So I bought a 21 plate Lexus RX450h, which is more comfortable, just as capable round corners, and hopefully never to become a regular at the dealer. Je ne regrette rien!

Nice video again Matt. Surely Land Rover should be sending out the key boxes, (with the LR logo on them) to counteract the the piss poor theft security. But no, just let the insurance company's pick up the tab for an ill thought out system. I saw a late Range Rover Velar parked down the road last week, probably worth £100000 plus, had a steering wheel lock on it. Something is not quite right is it!

Hi There, I have been watching your you tube clips for many months and in October I bought my first 2018 face lift Vouge SE, I have been a Mercedes customer for in excess of 20 years ( S Class ). I wanted to add to your comments that I believe that Mercedes have a better build quality, BUT, my RR Vouge 3.0 diesel V6, is by a country mile so much better to own and drive. I fitted a Ghost 2 immobiliser, and also got the JLR (free) security upgrade fitted. I fitted the side steps to get in and out of the car ( they are fantastic if you are not 6 feet tall ), and the icing on cake, I get 28 mpg around town driving and around 36 - 38 on motorway driving at 70 mph. I just had a FULL service ( not an interim service ) including new wipers and add blue ( £500 inc vat ) Thank you for pointing me to the Range Rover.

theft block box (faraday box) only works while its in the box, a common issue is people are now adapting, example they will follow you on your weekly/ daily trip, have 2 devices, one to capture the rolling key code, and another to block the car receiving any code, once they have captured the code they unlock your car and your in and think nothing of it, then once u go back home they can use the code your key generated which was not received by the car so therefor not discarded, and can unlock your car and drive away while your key is safe in the faraday box.

A colleague , who has the 2016 4.4 TD, which we are currrently using w/ trailer, borrowed for 5 weeks from his sister this 2019 5.0 Petrol. drove all over from Saxonia (East Germany) down to Sicily, then up along the cost via Barcelona and Andalucia/E, with his family inc. to large dogs.Esp in Norther Italy, and Austria, many passes were done. His resume, after returning the car, to us: never again, a consumption of min. 16.3 l on highways in Germany (ca 180 km/h), 23.7l over Swiss/Italian/Austrian passes . ---He has ordered the 2020 D350 (258 kW) Vogue with 35,000 km. This 3l Ingenium motor, for which LR friends had to wait for years, is the best engine, just after the same size, equally Mercedes in line 400 D.
I drove the RR D350, and I am very impressed, but will get a Disco 5 D300, as I do not really like to appear in public in a RR......I am a professor of physics....imagine the shitstrom you get.
What I do not understand: Matt is not an engineer, but a knowledgeable man - so, CO_2 is through the roof on such a petrol, (it angers Greta Dumb-berg), and if you know how to drive diesels, they last for very, very long. Oilchanges, Engine flushing w/ every service, always let it warm up (the 4.4 TDi needs about 35 km, to lubricate w/ his 8.8 l oil. You can have your injectors, turbos cleansed every 100 k w/o extracting them.
DPF ? In the last 15 years, since DPF's for Euro 4 came available, I only had once an issue w/them: on a Subaru Forester 2.0 D, a 2010, which was abused by a mother, to commute and shop around, distances ca 6 -13 km......Never regenerated the DPF. The first thing, we did, we took it out, flushed it, and then had to put it into a furnace, to burn it out. After that, the Suib made another 140 Tkm.....without fail, being used by many people.
! some of our sold Mercedes E 350's from (S211) , 4Matic are now still being drinven in D, on highways daily, all of them have the original enginie, mileages....? 850 Tkm, 921 Tkm, the youngest 790 Tkm...in D, many taxis 220/250 E classes have a million kms on their wheels !

The best person to ask if a Range Rover is reliable is the service desk at your local dealership, make sure its an honest one though.

Absolutely fantastic video, really do love Range Rovers and this is a total stunner. I agree, if your going to get something so luxurious and refined you may as well get it with a big V8 😊👌🏻👍🏻

My Peugeot 3008 1.5 hdi eat8 does 60 mpg and, it has heated massage seats, opening pan roof, power tailgate. Full LED lights front and back and yes, it only has 130 hp but, that’s plenty the way the roads are these days.
Range Rovers are nice but, cost far too much to run sadly.

Haha, guessed the answer as soon as I read the question. Mate has the long wheel base autobiography with 4.4 TDi. White with white interior . Open the door and immediately feel and see the crisp sharp lines of all the surfaces. One line leading to another of style and comfort. I was very impressed and enjoyed a drive in it. 25mpg for a land based private jet is very reasonable, making the journey to the destination more enjoyable than the destination itself.

I am a total disbeliever till I see something myself... And, the new Disco Sport has keyless entry, so I dutifully bought a faraday box for the keys, thinking "this will be a right load of wank"... But no, I was proved wrong, as per science. Stood right next to the car with the box open, and the doors unlocked. Box closed, doors wouldn't unlock. ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone with keyless entry.

There’s something special about a full size Range Rover. Just as there was something special about the Discovery (before they curvified it and ruined it) and the Defender.
Land Rover are capable of making some truly outstanding machines. It’s a shame that they’ve sullied this with abominations like the Range Rover Sport, Evoque and new Discovery, but hey, they know where the money is to be made, and there are a lot of loaded housewives out there.
My next car will either be an M3 or a full size Range Rover. Very different cars. I wish I had the space, and the cash, for both.

Great review! Down to earth, sensible and practical. I've a 2013 (2014 model) 4.4 V8 Diesel Autobiography which has low mileage (60K), all the options, nice colour combo (black outside sitting on 23" Urban wheels and linen interior with grained wood inc the wheel inside) and well looked after. I've tweaked it a little too. It's probably worth what I paid for it almost 3 years. Like you say, the new 2022 models are ridiculously expensive especially with the premiums being asked. They are quite an improvement over the L405, especially one as old as mine. But, the 2018 facelift looks a lot more car for the money. I like the Apple CarPlay addition since I only have a bluetooth link and have to use the iPhone screen. The all-round cameras inc the rear ones on mine are definitely poor quality now (especially at night). I wrestle with whether spending (probably) the value of my car again on top of its current value is worth the extra goodies....? I still have a fabulous luxurious smart looking car, huge range with its diesel engine and plenty of power. First world decisions!! LOL

Matt, thanks for the review, currently driving a 2005 Range Rover HSE (L322) and was looking for a replacement. Your review has convinced me that the extra expense in buying an L405 is a better choice overall. Thank you.

Thanks to your enthusiasm I've just purchased a Land Rover Approved used L405. 2017, no 2018 facelift as they were a stupid jump in price. 2017 has the updated media, digital dash and apple car play but not the climate touch screen. Good thing Id say. V6 (I know) SE with some bits added. Treat to dive with first year warranty included. Feel free to offer advice. Ie Service package, tyres (new Scorpion Winters fitted) extended warranty and more. Keep up the channel, if not for me then Used Land Rover dealers. Lol.

A little pleasant quirk that I found the other day on my 2019 model - instead of pressing the volume +/- buttons on your steering wheel, you can adjust the volume of music by running your thumb in a circular motion along the circumference of the same round pad clock or anti clock-wise.

  • @Adamlllllllllllljjjljljjjjj

I just worked it out, the fuel prices right now are considerably lower than they were about a year ago. If you average 7000 miles a year, a 5.0 Range Rover would cost you £2000 whereas a diesel 3.0 would cost £1750. A saving of £250. BUT, a 5.0 brings more smiles per gallon and as a owner himself said it’s more reliable too

The big problem with the RR is that it gets in your blood, an expensive addiction but then again so are most premium cars, just one thing I prefer the 15 to 19, less surfaces for finger prints and more buttons and imo looks better too. I just wish there were tablets for this RR disease . :)

Two years ago I worked in Mali for a NGO and drove a range rover and a land cruiser amazon the rover is a very pretty car where as the land cruiser is less decorative but the rover makes me think of a heavy weight boxer with a glass jaw easily broken but the land cruiser is a tank it will take anything you can throw at it they were both the same age both the same weight but I always felt safe in the land cruiser it was a lot more reliable .I know this is an extreme example very few people are going to find themselves driving down a dry river bed in Africa but if you do make sure its in a land cruiser by the way I love your channel
