How you are NOT a Range Rover salesman/ambassador surprises me
I dont know either!
I know right lol I must admit there is something special about them for sure I know they are not the most reliable and cost a lot to repair but the kinda person who gets one should be able to afford the costs anyways I guess
Citroën must have signed him first 😂
Actually …
@@Conservator.you beat me to it 🤣
Crazy to think the new shape can cost like 150k when this one is almost 10% of that and still looks as expensive 😮
I agree
I’d imagine the depreciation on that new new model (don’t know the L code) will be astronomical. Much better to buy one used (even still if you afford it which I can’t 😂😂😂)
@@reececollison5101 Used but it is definitely an extended warranty candidate
@@colechapman6976 especially these new ones! With the sheer amount of electrics these will probably develop faults earlier in life and devalue themselves even quicker!
Land Rover know the market for the proper RR they could sell them for £200k on par with the G-Wagen and they'd still sell them like hot cakes.
This episode made me feel like a proud dad😎it's a different feeling when you see a Range Rover that's being cared for the way it's supposed to
Have you actually owned one and paid for all these kind of repairs? Makes me cringe at the prices Matt quotes here. If it was built better in the first place, maybe half of these items wouldn't cost a fortune to fix. But that's the plan all along I guess. If you can afford one new, you won't care less about repair costs I imagine. Not a car for everyday Joe Bloggs
Odd tyres on the same axle is illegal in most modern countries..
@@JP5isalive These cars back than were the most modern high-tech luxury suv s, If land rover would have tried for years to refine these features and do more testings the technology on them would have been outdatet by the time it reached production. You have a great example of this with toyota, lexus and other japanese wanabe range rovers.
It’s cheap because they are unreliable expensive to maintain cars. The only way I would own one if I could afford it would be a brand new one after winning the lottery. I would also sell it just before the warranty ran out! Oh and the worst drivers have dash cams fitted as they believe that every one else on the road is a bad driver when in actual fact they are the problem.
@@JP5isalive yes a white 2015 L405 with 50,000km( 31k miles) 4.4L SDV8, which I bought for myself but I gave it to my mom cause she fell in love with it and loved how it drove so it's not really mine anymore😂but even with low mileage I serviced the engine, gearbox, the diff not because it needed it but just for peace of mind even though I did it prematurely since my mom will drive it plus I found it cared for so why not keep it that way and it's never had any gearbox or diff oil flushes so I didn't want to wait any longer, but like Mat says with every car not just Range Rovers prevention is better than the cure🤧same goes for my dad's 2013 B8.5 Audi A4 1.8T that he absolutely loves which has 130k miles
That truly is a beautiful car, and an absolute bargain, but honestly, I can see how very few people can actually keep on top of all maintenance and repairs, such a shame so many get wrecked...
That's why they depreciate lime they do and then end up in the hands of undesirables.or simply go to the scrappers. Occasionally someone comes across as a gem that doesn't go wrong but the classic is long since sold and the rest you're in a serious spiders web when something fails despite what Matt claims.
I just spent AU$7,000 on repairs for a subaru outback with 150,000kms on it.
$5K alone in the cvt gearbox. All cars cost money as they age as Matt keeps saying.
@@ricbrook7059 Spot on Ric. It's as well if you're in the position to finance an Apollo Moonshot before you buy an old RR.
Especially the kind of people who would buy a raffle ticket to win one.
They can't be very well engineered if they have that many problems at quite low mileage. I really want one, but I've talked myself out of it many times, luckily.
When matt start reading the repairs/cost bill from his memory and not from the bill itself you know he is in a car he likes 🤣
Nice but I actually bought the cheapest l405 in the country a couple months ago. You probably saw it on autotrader it was on there for a good few months. £17.5k with 180k miles on there. Zero problems so far and runs like a dream. Turns out the previous original owner is a partner of a large bank and used it to go up and down europe on business.
@@leevweleevwe4813 I wouldn't say so. People in the UK are way too quick to get turned off on high mileage diesel cars when stupid low mileage diesels are probably mechanically worse off. It would cost 5-8k more to get one with half the mileage but there's not 5-8k difference mechanically.
@@yilmazh3127 yours probably has less engine wear than the o e in your video, if it's mostly doing motorway driving it should be a solid vehicle
@@CL4SSiCS That's what I thought. The previous owner lives in Kensington so I'm sure he didn't skimp on anything at all. It drives perfectly, very happy with it and because I spent well under budget I have loads set a side for anything that does go wrong.
How is your car nowadays? Still going strong?
@@Wsadef 197k miles. I've had to replace a brake caliper that leaked water from wear and tear and some electrical wire had to be replaced that because it was worn it presumably didn't relay something back so the engine fan was running constantly. Both items were a total of about £600 of repair. Other than that its been faultless, drives really well. My mechanic says the car as a whole, underneath it etc is all in pretty good condition and told me to hang onto this one!
I really like the interior trim combo. But, most incredibly, Matt can tell the difference between 3.0mm and 3.5mm of tread with just his finger....what a guy !!
He is pretty good.
😂😂🙏
I can gap spark plugs using my thumb nail, I'm not a master mechanic.😊
As much as I love my L322 I must admit that this video made me finally feel something for the L405. My next car, hopefully not for a few years to come, was always going to be either a newer L322 or an early L405. You made lean more to an L405 today.
For looks the late 2010-12 L322 is the best, especially in grey, the L405 is a better car to drive, I have had both, but I did regret selling my L322 so got another one back in November! I intend to run it till it falls apart!
@@nickgilbert6445 Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I must say, for me the L322 is the true Range Rover. It blended it all so well. L405 and beyond has become too luxurious for my taste. Plus lookswise the L322 is simply a better choice, in my opinion. I have a supercharged 2005 in all black. Love it so much. Special cars.
@@nickgilbert6445 how reliable has yours been?
@Jeremy Brown more economical and reliable on your bike anyways
@Jeremy Brown on average your bike will get you A to B quicker than a Range Rover because trust me your going to break down a few times in one of these
What a bargain! Credit to its owner maintaining it to such a high standard. Such a timeless design too. Raffle ticket purchased 🤞
The L405 is the best generation ever, i would love the sprc of yours Matt (on the outside) with the interior color of this black prefacelift one, originally a car for Farmers and general folk, now its a status symbol and an icon of British motoring.
Great video as usual Matt! :D
Thanks!
But still they are a total heap of crap
@@Danny-204 yeah thats why we bond with them, like an old MG, the heart break creates "chains" like in a dysfunctional uber chav family.
The fact he limits tickets per person to avoid people going OTT shows he's a class act.
It’s the black pack so it comes with the wheels, grill and other parts in black like that from the factory. They arnt all two tone wheels in that spec. I have had a few 4.4 autobiography’s. An absolute bargain that is 👍🏻
I see the dog of a Citroën C4 Picasso that you reviewed recently was still there. Quite a difference in contrast between how each has been maintained.
Bought a focus st 3 months ago and your video has already got me on auto trader looking at cheap range rovers!! Amazing cars
Never get tired of range rover reviews, a great one from Matt would be a direct comparison between Sport and full size
Matt you are a legend you have saved a fantastic old Volvo a true old workhorse. The D5 engine is fantastic and a testament to regular servicing. It will get you all.over Europe and back home without missing a beat. Mind you I've been a Volvo owner for 30 years.
Wasn't it clocked though in 2021 (3:50)? Went from 101111 to 99968 in 2 months. Nice though!
Good spot!
I am glad not just me that noticed that, and was surprised that Car Vertical didnt pick up on that?
Why would someone clock it only 1000 miles?
@@judgementalTXif you love your car, you will do it yearly, so you don’t run it into the ground.
@@judgementalTX Thats what i thought... just a typo.
I think the ‘Knuckle’ will be the assembly where the suspension bolt on and the wheel bearings mount. They’ve replaced everything from the transfer box out to the wheels.
That dual view screen is a brilliant option! Thanks for showing it.
Great video and nice to see a positive review, most Range Rover reviews are enough to put buyers off. People have to remember that typically it's the lack of proper maintenance that brings the unreliability issues, this L405 has been properly looked after and as a result you only had a low fuel warning. I'm sat at the lower end with an old 3.0 L322 Vogue. It's perfect for my needs, I look after it and it looks after me. You're absolutely right driving a full size one feels good, no matter the age or version. Keep up the great reviews.
How do you look after it?
I agree as long as you maintain Range Rovers they go forever or any kind of Land Rover
Also, when looking at the tyres can you show the DOT Code, which will reveal the age of the tyre please?
You'll be amazed how many 20yr old cracked Michelin tyres are fitted to 10yr old cars!!
Bargain of the year I reckon, well done 👍🏽 I’m looking for a 14/15 RRS 5.0 with under 40k miles but the prices are mostly £30k+
My mate was thinking of buying a Range Rover and asked for my advice. I said "When you view it, if it says Range Rover on the bonnet and boot....run.....FAST!!!"
Still struggle to see the appeal but each to their own . After 100,000 mile and being serviced everything starts falling apart.
Not for me but still enjoy the channel
Fair enough
@@HighPeakAutos Blank the EGR valve, ditch the cats with a straight through exhaust and the engine should be reliable into very high mileages.
@@HighPeakAutos Love the 405. Would go for a 405 but will admit that L322 is peak range rover.
I vowed never to buy a JLR product but watching too many of your videos since lockdown……. I bought an L405 V8 Diesel last year. I ABSOLUTELY love it, what a wonderful car to drive. But it has cost a lot to run and has spent a lot of time inside the workshop. A lot of time £££££😮
Brilliant video, Matt . It's not my kind of car, though . My favourite would be the £250 Panda you drove to Spain the other day. But who knows. Maybe one day 😃😃😃
Thanks!
Great channel mate
You can beat the driving position of a range rover it's called a landcruiser.
Nice find Matt. I'm with you on the personal choices - not sure I am a fan of the blacked out badges and alloys. I prefer the two tone. The interior is also quite a choice but like you, I don't hate it. What always interests me is I have the 2012 L322 4.4TDV8 Westminster which was one of the final runs they did before the L405. It always makes me smile how much I have in mine as standard which means it still holds it's own today. That and the L322 design is timeless! But crikey Matt - I say again - what a find buddy!
you have made fall in love with these. British design is really impressive. Can't believe that car is 10 years old
Wheels would definitely look better diamond cut again and it would lift it I think. What an absolute Billy bargain!
There is nothing like an L405 Range Rover with the Meridian Signature. Studio on wheels it is, the bass kicks a*s for such a gentle car
Great content as always, good to see you actually invested into it, afraid to say would not have another due to their reliability issues
Plastic around rearview mirror is still missing. Well not missing. It's in the glovebox I believe
Yes I need to clip that back together
I’m tinkering with the idea of getting one myself in that spec in Loire blue with 22” diamond cut turbines. It’s such a beautiful beast and deceptively quick with that 4.4 purring away. £18,500 is an absolute bargain for something that costs £100,000 new.
Drive it carefully and you will get remarkable fuel consumption.
😂
Correct me if i’m wrong but, according to that mileage chart @3:40, the vehicle had 101k miles on it in Jan 2021, then 99k miles in March 2021?
Finally a car that looks like you could be a Manchester City footballer and not just a fan. 😉😂
Mass Air Flow sensor Clean fixed it im gessing it has a MAP sensor in conjunction with a mass air flow sensor as well . Good job on the rest of the work you done 🎉happy spannering and a good new year i hope 🙏 😊
Great buy and a lot of L405 for the money!
Worth a ticket in the raffle, for sure…
The front knuckles are the big aluminium casting that has the wheel bearing and all the suspension control arms attached to it. If that and the drive shafts have been replaced, I imagine they've hit some large potholes/curbs
Absolute bargain, can't believe how good that looks for its age, I even went onto your site to consider buying it! Entered the raffle and hope I can get it for even more of a bargain that you even paid for it!
The way you were skipping around this car, clearly in your element. Love it! 🙌
Great video yet again 👋👋
Thanks! 👍
Keep looking at these after running my transporter for 2 years ,
Got my eyes wide open and know the reputation but Really fancing one at the current prices ........
Another interesting video 👍
I do admire your courage, it could of been an absolute nightmare. Probably one of the easiest you have sorted in a while.
Matt seems quite lucky with his cheapie trade in buys, although much of it is down to his experience. He does get landed with the occasional shed though, although these are normally sub £500 cars.
knuckles are where the wheel bearing lives and driveshafts shocks go into
Fantastic video, Matt. It is a beautiful Range Rover ..an absolute bargain at £18.5k
It looks good as new .
Brilliant preparation and honest presentation. Quality allround. I'm getting a ticket tomorrow.
Keep these videos coming they make a long working day seem so short 😁😁
Glad you like them!
What a lovely motor. Definitely have the wheel diamond cut again!
I don't comment on here much but that Range Rover really was a bargain at 18.5k and wow what a stunner. The milage on it is absolutely nothing thanks to the incredible service history it's got...👍🙂👍
Straight online looking for the same year/model. 23,000 is the cheapest I found. Well done mate!
You've got a real soft spot for Range Rovers.
I do!
@@HighPeakAutos why??. They are just unreliable and ugly cars lol 😂😂😬😂
Nice looking motor, but parts start to add up...think the letters are around £3 each...spare wheel new is £300 plus, tyres are £160 each maybe more....mirror surround in the glovebox? They are nice motors, but you need to budget for pricey servicing and maintenance.
Scrap dealers haven't collected the Citroën yet!
That duel view was so cool, I've never seen that range rover is just great 👍
I remember looking at the L405 when they started to drop under 25k, then I think it was Harry's Garage where he basically said words to the effect of 'this is a 4x4 Bentley, expect to pay maintenance bills with this in mind' and sadly at this point in my life with two expensive kids... for that reason I was out, someday maybe! 😆👍🏻
I know what you mean. A wiser man than I once told me that if I couldn't afford to buy an exotic car new, then I definitely couldn't to afford to run/repair a used one, when everything starts wearing out.
Evoque perhaps?
@@jibbyjabby7499 deffo an option, my father in law has a last of model Freelander 2 HSE
.. I lent it a year or so and loved it. Not 💯 sure a Evoque doesn't feel like the model directed at females. .. if that makes sense. (Everyone I know who has one is female 😆)
Mileage dips a bit. But yet car vertical has an ok tick for mileage. 🤷🏻♂️
Good video...enjoyed it..and I'll buy a raffle ticket...but that music when you unveiled the Range Rover after the work was megastrophic!
The big question with Range Rovers, particularly the newer ones, is ‘does the rear seat fold down flat’ - so you get a flat load space.
For instance the Velar doesn’t - crazy I know!!!
Just been over to Prestige Wheels myself this morning for a refurb. Great set of guys.
I am getting my first Land Rove next year. Thanks for all the knowledge
Like the video, although I'm not a range rover fan, much prefer an old defender. One thing I don't understand, is why put skinny tyres on a off road vehicle, it doesn't make sense.
Think I will stick to my 62 plate L322, it has only done 87K miles so should be OK for several years yet. It is a must to keep money back for repairs, mine is a tow car, nearly 2 ton caravan and 2.5 ton loaded trailer, in fact I would say that 50% of my miles are towing. Averaged just over 25mpg last year so for a big car and considering how I use it that was not too bad. As for break downs I have only had to replace a windscreen wiper motor, which at £350 was bad enough, all else has been standard wear and tear. Although the high level rear brake light has stopped working and getting into it is a plastic cover off job and I always break the retention clips so not looking forward to that job. Good video though, I suspect as you already intimated this car has been towing heavily loaded horse boxes hence all the wear on the suspension system and breaks. Keep up the good work.
That’s why u need deep pockets to run of these coz after a certain number of years when they go wrong they go wrong and u will fork out a lot of money to fix it when it does go wrong.
I will look out on that when I buy a range rover
Wow can't believe,, tk s for this car have ,,SOLD OUT ,, Well I suppose I can as there are only the amount of tkts that comes to the value of the car ,, one of the fairest comps on you tube ,, not like some other raffles ,, Keep em coming ,, great channel ,, 👍
noise is parcel shelf, mine had same issue easy fix. love my L405 even though I have spent a lot on it haha nothing like them
I love my L405. 4.4V8 diesel and about as stressful to drive as having a hot bath
There was a program on commercial Dutch TV about the english traffic police and they complained about the Range Rover.
The car did not meet the high police standards. Especially the engine often gave problems.
They switched to a BMW 5 SUV AND THAT FULFILLED THEIR REQUIREMENTS. Especially the engine was indestructible.
Nevertheless, the Range Rover is a beauty. Truly a classic
BMW has since stopped supplying police cars to forces across the UK.
I think the rare leather colour is a real selling point, it gives it a much more exclusive look. The Range Rover Arabica or Espresso (both look the same to my eyes) is the best colour of all from a luxury / wear perspective. Delicious.
Obviously what made this car such a bargain was the fact that the previous owner had been willing to spend as much money on it as it needed to keep it running properly. It just needed new tyres and some minor cosmetic work and it was job done which I bet was a refreshing change for you! A lovely car and a great prize for someone - sadly I don't think I could afford the running costs though🙁
Nice Matt! Glad you kept the wheels black, prefer that.
I've a bit of an eye....looks like its missing the trim around the rain and high beam assist sensor, reckon that was what was in the glovebox 👍
What alot of car for the money too!!
Yes that’s right. I need to clip that back on
Any chance of adding a few raffle tickets??? This is a dream car for many Range Rover fans, hope a few more willl be made available:)
Can you do a video on a RANGE ROVER VELAR 3.0 diesel with 300hp, im thinking of getting one so i would like your opinion
Brown leather is the best colour!! I'd spec that colour if buying new. You know you're a high roller when 18k is cheap! ✋🙂
Haha cheers
You picked up a very happy range rover, the depreciation and repair costs had my eyes watering turned out lovely 👍
What was the rattle in the end? Were your master mechanic skills on point? Lovely cars. Usually the cheapest Range Rover is the most expensive Range Rover. Glad to see this isn’t one of those.
Can't help but notice the hilarious C4 in the background, opposite end of the spectrum compared to the RR....
If suspension parts often need replacing it's not because "it's a heavy car", but because the manufacturer didn't make them strong / heavy enough.
Well thanks to you, I bought my L494 a few months ago. It’s an AB and even higher miles than this and I do a lot of miles, some might think that’s just recipe for disaster but hasn’t missed a beat and I service my own cars so it didn’t put me off. Please feature more of these on channel.
I did find the channel when you released the grey RRS video by the way.
Great choice! There’s nothing like them
I had a friend in San Diego had one of these. It would have been an early 2000s model. He said it was an expensive nightmare.
He had a factory just across the border in Mexico and had to drive back and forth every day.
Not a huge fan of range rovers. The thing I like is the RIDE, Unparalleled in comfort. Drove my boss's one awhile back and it was wonderful to drive
Matt I just wanna say thanks for the great work and wonderful videos you do!
Thank you for watching
What a brilliant buy!! I’ve got a couple of tickets! All fingers crossed!! 🤞🤞🤞
I like the dual view satnav/TV screen. Very clever!
Interesting vid, great to see the after clean and service etc. in the same video
Thanks 👍
When you said you will be taking it to the Mechanics i literally said 3 WEEKS before you did and i wasn't wrong either.
Cheers Mate!
Literally a few touch ups, wheel refurb and a good clean and it looks newer than most 1-2 year old cars on the road 😅😍
Jammy... that's a lovely car matt and you always do your cars proud
Great Content. Some of the best car nutter vids on youtube which for a Tottenham Bus Driver Anarcho Syndicalist section is some accolade.
Haha thank you!
Personally I think the Land Rover company is the best vehicles ever made nothing beats them as long as you maintain the cars they will look after you and last for a long time
For that price I was half expecting you to roll back the sunroof blind and find a crack in the roof glass.
Matt I wish I could gauge a cars tyre tread to the nearest half Mill with my finger.
Matt at his finest... In full RANGE mode... LoL, I can literally feel your joy!!! 🤣🤣🤣
showing so a lot of knowledge about everything in it! No doubt that you love these cars... You even forgived the all black!! 😉😉
Don't tyres cost an arm and a leg in UK! Here in Japan, a set of four 16-inch snow tyres from the Mongolian guys up the road will set me back the equivalent of Stg.170, fitted.
Mat, if you ever wanted to put someone off buying that Range Rover, hearing how much cash it’s munched through, I certainly would not be putting my cash that direction.
Why would you ever buy something that needed all that work doing when it was younger in years?
What are the next 5 years going to bring?
Dual view (so the passenger can watch to as you scroll to call the AA) isn’t going to close the deal.
So what are you going to do with it?
Do what you usually do, it a good detail clean and call your scrap guy!
I live near Guy Salmon in Wakefield , I work round the corner of Guy Salmon in Hunslet Leeds .
Its a beauty, love the chocolate brown leather it takes the Undertakers edge off it.
Nice job. Personally i'd have done the wheels in silver & replaced the badges with fiull silver text versions. The murdered out look really doesn't suit these IMO
Nothing drives me nuts more than something for sale that, when you show up to look at it, isn't even washed. Maybe I'm old school, but when you're selling something, you do your damndest to make it present as well as possible.
Matt saw the car on raffle shack and bought a ticket. Then just seen the video had a chuckle to myself. Superb idea and a great car. Plus I would never buy one by love to have one. Lol. Keep the dream alive thank you.
Can't beat a good Matt & Rangie vid.
