I think what I appreciate most about Joan is that her mind was FAST. She wasn't thinking of the next joke. She was setting up something five or ten minutes down the line to come back to. There's something to be said for rehearsing your act until you can recite it rapidly, but making it conversational is an entirely different thing. You can't plan how an audience member looks and build jokes on that reliably. She built a mental warehouse of go-to's that she could tap into as soon as the opportunity arose and string them back to back to almost leave you breathless with how fast the jokes were coming. Great mind. Great lady.
***** She had what i would call brutal honest comedy she skewered everyone..George Carlin had the same kind of comedy..i can't recall what stand up it was,but in one of them a politician was sitting in the upper balcony and Carlin went at him it got so embarrassing for this politician that he and his family left the theater..it was great.
@@mja91352 only people with no sense of humor thought she was obnoxious ; similar to the same bunch of big whining babies we've had in the past 10 or so years , interrupting the show , not allowing the comic to continue until they explain why their feelings are so hurt or why they're so angry about what the comic just said . They need to stop these attempts to prevent the comic from doing what they do best . If people don't like certain comics who are all too honest , they simply don't have to watch them .
cattrio In this case, cattrio, I think the angle is "bandwagon cliches disguised as provacative thoughts". Joan Rivers wasn't brave or "trailblazing" or anything like that. She was a vanilla feminist who appealed to shallow cliches and liberal strawmen for bucks and fame. You know, sort of like the way a televangelist sells religion and healing.
I have met Joan Rivers and she is lovely, totally different to the person in TV which I enjoyed too. She made sure I should have a photo with her. A lovely lady.
Had the pleasure of seeing Joan at a casino near Seattle less than a year ago. I didn't know she was going to be there, I was just there by chance... 2nd row ticket was available.... so hey... why not ! Had my hair (what was left of it), all tucked up into a baseball cap. "Thanks for dressing up ! Take off the damn hat." Well, being bald on top and not having a haircut for a few months... all the unwashed frizziness of "after the gym" unwashed hair came out. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Bozo the Clown ! Give him a big round of applause !". Insulted by Joan. It was a good day. ;-)
Great story, Tacoma Paul . Nowadays people would have whined and said it hurt their feelings . Thanks for being a real man about it and having a great sense of humor in the age of the big whiny Neo-natal-nazi babies
She's one of the few comedians who could elicit "explosive" laughter with a brilliant unexpected punch line. And one didn't dare to not pay attention lest you "miss" a joke because she worked so fast.
I just can't accept my Joan being gone, I freaking miss her so much😭😭😭😭...nobody holds a candle to her comedy genius, she's an icon and forever the Queen... Binge watching 2021
M. Rivers to me is thee epitome of class, sass, gorgeous, comedy, brains and everything rolled into 1, since I saw her when I was young. There weren't many, aren't many and will not ever be many like her but at least there's videos, podcasts, etc., we can watch, listen to, read about, etc., then pass thee information on to those around us we love. Thank you for being your amazing selves everyone, peace and much love sent from Ontario, Canada.
Mike my parents told me that! Because there weren’t many channels the entire country would be talking about it the next day and how she got better ratings
No one can eclipse the great Joan Rivers...Never does she bore anyone, so dry and so fast with her observational Comedy!! She was SIMPLY THE BEST EVER!!! I felt bereft when she went to Heaven. I hope she is having Shows there. I was sorry I discovered her Comedy late!! See you one Day Joan!!!!Thank You for your LEGACY!!!!
When I'm feeling a bit blue, I pull up any of her vids, blues gone! I like to tell myself that when it is raining it is because Joan is killing it in heaven and the rain is the angles tears of laughter!(and probably a little bit of pee!)
She just turned 81 and still going strong! I love the jokes, singers sing the same songs over and over again so whats the difference if she repeats some jokes, they are so funny.
R.I.P. Joan Rivers. Sitting here remembering her old stand up routines and two of her most famous phrases, which still make me laugh every time I hear them. "Oh, you don't know!" and "Can we talk?" LOL What a legend.. So sad to see her go.
it took her passing for me to even find out about her comedy (really did enjoy the 1967 ed sullivan bit and I had absolutely no idea about all the guest hosting on late night). really enjoy how she interacted with the audience. i've gleaned from several clips her obsession with getting older/and her lack of breasts. i suppose that is why she turned to plastic surgery. i hope she wasn't really down on herself but i suppose that's what makes a comedian/enne. a sadness/darkness (like our friend Robin) anyway, i hope the surgeries made her happy and she relished in her success and knew her place in the history of tv/comedy. 81 is a pretty good run! most def. rip joan!
I'd never really heard much about Joan rivers but in this she is actually pretty hilarious, definately disproves the theory that women aren't funny. I will be sure to watch more youtube video's of her.
" I asked my husband what's his favourite sexual position and replied " next door "" 🤣..A sassy, smart and hysterically funny lady...whats not to like ?? A very underrated comedienne in my opinion and sorely missed to this day.
She has such incredible energy. This is a true performer. 🧡 Part of the job is to take you outside of your element for a brief period of time. Your element meaning everything around you. She does this every time.
How can you not just light up when you see her coming because you know she is about to talk endlessly about someone all in the name of good fun. Wow what a lady
I've followed her career for years, since her first stand up. She'd the matriach of comedy and opened doors for female comedians. Watch A piece of Work. You'll understand how tough she'd had it and she deserves all she has now.
Sharpest and funniest comedienne ever,in my opinion. Very fast timing with her audience in stiches. She had great timing like Jack Benny and Johnny Carson, who knew how long to wait for setting up the next killer jerk.G-d gets to hear her routines every night.

Oh lucky you that would've been a treat! Love Joan.
Joni Mitchell was right. "You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone". Farewell to the one of the most brilliant comedians of all time.
Ross Cicero Like toilet paper.

Such energy! It's a little fitting that she would go around the same time as Robin Williams, they were both so, so full of energy!
Forty years later (2022) and Joan Rivers is still a legend!
