she is a force of nature. Nobody makes me laugh out loud like Joan Rivers. Even if I heard it from her already. How? I mean, how can anyone be that funny?

jeez.... it's like hurricane joan... punchline after another punchline..nonstop brilliance. her and robin williams .. probably the best there ever was...
She was a very classy woman. She lived to entertain people, and just make them laugh. I have been watching her speech at the Emmy’s when she was voted as bestTV host. To this day, she still gets me all teary eyed. She was stunning that night.
Lol very funny I never seen Joan’s do a stand up until now. I remember her mostly from being someone who said sassy things about celebrities. She was very witty and wow never heard such fast delivery and yet I caught it all.
That would be the stage manager, the late Joe Dicso. He had been there since the beginning and he was on the money with making the show run smoothly and on time, for the most part with help from coordinating producer, the late Audrey Peart Dickman, who had also been there since 1975. She was responsible for the show's timing.
What an icon! What a legend! What a queen! Nobody can do it like Joan did. Absolutely brilliant! There’s a clip of her on You Tube, she’s doing stand up, she talks about her husband’s suicide and how after she and her daughter went to eat at this very fancy, very expensive restaurant in Beverly Hills and when they opened the menu said said, “Melissa if your daddy was alive today and he saw these prices he would kill himself all over again.” 😂😂😂😂😂
I can't believe how she insulted Joan on Joan and Melissa Jan knows best. Joan Rivers is an icon and she could've told her she didn't like the shows setting with respect. I agree some people can get so Hollywood they lose touch with reality and become disrespectful. Joan didn't deserve to be treated so harshly by someone she paved the way for. Sarah should be grateful.
Genuinely hilarious. But as opposed to almost every other artist got faar better with age. Her stuff in her late 70s and even 80s was roll-on-the-floor-laughing hilarious!
"And it is wonderful to be back in New York City because it is the greatest city in the whole world" It may indeed have been the greatest city in the world back then in the early 80s. Not any more. Maybe New York City and New York state will change the way they vote this Nov.
In my view, this was her peak. While still clever and funny, by the 2000s she’d become the very thing she’d made fun of. She was no longer the New York girl making fun of the privileged over-primped over-tucked plastic people, she WAS one of them.
hard to understand what she is saying. Rat a Tat Tat . . . MG 42 rapid fire . . . I'm surprised smoke is not coming out of her mouth from overheating the barrel.
Did anyone ever pay to attend all her shows and find she kept rehasing, sometimes not even caring to warm up them a bit, the same old jokes? I realize it's different now that The Net can deliver you all the older crap by the tons in one single pack, and it's good not having to rely on the newer shit but, still, if the feeling plunges after the same joke is told a second time, after the third... and it's a fucking show, I mean, can we talk?.. you may be allowed to rehash old stuff for pity humour events like random TV interviews but, woman, when you were promoting yourself in a TV talk show to get people interested in your shows, which were your "real" JOB, is that all you had to give, and all you seemed to care about was a new rag and a new hank of hair? Oh, that, and one more turn of the screw on the face.
tf was this commenter talking about? She roasts almost everybody... And that wasn't even the case for other great female comics like Roseanne. AND 'used to'? As if there is this big improvement in comedy now when everyone is too PC, jokes are taken literally and careers are destroyed over the slightest thing
I guess you are one of the perpetually offended crowd searching for the world is sexist angle this time. You state: "women comedians always had to use self-deprecating humor to get a laugh". Not hardly. Gilda Radner was hilarious without it. It isn't gender specific. John Pinette used self deprecating humor. Food and fat jokes were his main subjects because he was so big.

For me, one of the Great Ones. What a woman!
couldn’t agree more
The best
I used to love the way she clapped her hands. Like a walrus smacking his flippers.

This, THIS is how to open SNL !! Not plugging your newest movie ....

I'm exhausted. Brilliant, one of a kind, and I miss her so much.
She's timeless❤️

THIS IS STILL SOOOOO FUNNY :D :D :D
R.I.P. Joan,
make the Heaven laugh !
These are the most number of jokes in any monologue ever. And, all of them landed successfully 🔥
She was a very classy woman. She lived to entertain people, and just make them laugh. I have been watching her speech at the Emmy’s when she was voted as bestTV host. To this day, she still gets me all teary eyed. She was stunning that night.
What a funny lady!!!! She was/is a great woman!!!!
So much energy! She gave everything.
"He went to a hemorrhoid examination they found a brain tumor!". I'm gonna try that one on my friend!
The late great genius icon and legend, the Queen 👑 Joan sorely missed and beloved by many...I freaking miss her so much 😪😢
Relentlessly funny.
Lol very funny I never seen Joan’s do a stand up until now. I remember her mostly from being someone who said sassy things about celebrities. She was very witty and wow never heard such fast delivery and yet I caught it all.
This episode of SNL was one of the funniest ever aired.
The only person to have hosted both the Tonight Show AND SNL.
Outside of Steve Martin.
Why did she do two monologues in this episode?
We saw the sign "wet floor." He did. Hahahahahaha...
Hahaha
my mother looked at me, looked at the afterbirth, then declared "TWINS!!!" haha!!!
Man, she came out of them doors swingin'!
Had no idea she ever hosted SNL. Though I don't believe she was ever invited back once she relocated to NYC. What madness!!!
Exactly. The Elizabeth Taylor bit was so funny. "Her blood type is Ragu" LMAO
I saw the episodes when she did!
I want that energy!
Joan Rivers Did This On Valentine's Day
My idol in stand up comedy and of course her iconic fashion police grilling of stars , still.cant believe shes gone . I miss her
Are there any female (or male) comics out these days even near this funny? If so, who?
Bill Burr or Rodney Dangerfield
Kathleen Madigan. Miranda. Close.
@@cjb8010 Miranda? You're joking, right?
@@georgegeorgiev3946 have we met?
No. Not even close.
The funniest woman to EVER live ❤️
this is valentine's day look
The Carrie joke lol
JEEEEEEESUS H CHRIST. How many laughs per minute is that??? How is that even possible?!?!?!
3:32 they signal her to wrap it up so they can get on with the show. Joan could've kept cracking jokes all night and the crowd would've loved it

Joan had a joke catalog all on cards. She had thousands of jokes she made up. I hope it was saved.
i miss you Joan

She’s great, I miss her so much 🏆🏆🏆🏆❤️

Wow! I wish I grew up on comedians like Joan.
@YoungFrankenstein
Year an the date of airing is 1983 as it reads in the description.
I want Joan Rivert to host again!!!
never going to happen now.
ImmaculatePatw what you gonna do resurrect her
Unfortunately... there's that small complication now.
well so you see...
To me she was the best. There will never be another. I miss her.
No way Joan is going to bomb in NYC on SNL- great clip!
What an OG.
They don't make 'em like Joan no more.
Loved her! Miss her!
Icon
She killed. Her act does not feel dated, not a woman today is even close to her.
“I was so ugly my mom said go ask the guy in the raincoat if he has a van” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 so inappropriate
This is how its done!
I miss her. She was the best.

Love and miss Joan! And SNL when it was funny
2018! still funny!
2019 still funny!
2021 and STILL funny!
Actually it was Joan Rivers who came up with the “Lucille Ball smoking a Cuban” joke. Lucy hated it but Joan did not care.
Hey Apple. I can barely afford ONE of your phones, how am supposed to get FOUR and then strap them to my car!?!
Genuinely hilarious. But as opposed to almost every other artist got faar better with age. Her stuff in her late 70s and even 80s was roll-on-the-floor-laughing hilarious!
What is that type of blouse called?
Comedienne Xtraodinaire....

It may indeed have been the greatest city in the world back then in the early 80s. Not any more.

which year is this?
1983
The last joke he had sh…. For brains 😂😂
Rip
They don’t even show the audience anymore.
NY
I always thought women comedians weren't funny, she proved me wrong
as if She is still with us!
Wow SNL had someone funny on
In my view, this was her peak. While still clever and funny, by the 2000s she’d become the very thing she’d made fun of. She was no longer the New York girl making fun of the privileged over-primped over-tucked plastic people, she WAS one of them.
YEt she still made fun of them and herself she was a funny dame till the end.
Wrong
She made fun of herself though.
Too bad comedians cannot be funny anymore. If they are they get slapped. Joan was the best!!
She calimas she had a good time, but SNL Live never invited her back. Watching “Joan Rivers - FULL TA Interview “ on UA-cam
They went for a colonoscopy and found a brain tumor. She is so funny still.
I was a sophomore in high school. Compare what we see today with high schoolers and political correctness. Times have turned Orwellian.
allure
Self-deprecating humour similar to Rodney Dangerfield...
Comedians these days are so soft and scared to offend people. None of them do it like joan.
Back when it was actully funny
Pa daj 😍
hard to understand what she is saying. Rat a Tat Tat . . . MG 42 rapid fire . . . I'm surprised smoke is not coming out of her mouth from overheating the barrel.
90000000 oil
💀
This was before SNL hired a bunch of high schoolers to do the writing. That $h!t they try tp pass as comedy now is painful to watch.
To bad
Saturday night was funny
NO POLITICAL SHIT
Meh!?
Hilarious. For the most part SNL sucked during the 80s.
Such suspiciously large hands.
She's so coked up here
LOVE IT

It’s sad that women comedians always had to use self-deprecating humour to get a laugh.
Always???
Did you not see any of her other material?
To be fair, most comedians use self-deprecating humour.... because it’s funny
