    I have seen through Joan Rivers for a while. She is the sweetest, kindest, person.
    People who become offeded by her, need to know its an act, and it works, and good for her. She is smart, funny, quick.

    I'm 16 and I love Joan, I saw her on fashion police and fell in love with her then and I loved her on celebrity apprentice I love watching her do stand up and I was devastated when she passed away because she was a trailblazer and no one will ever fill up her spot on earth she is absolutely a hilarious comedienne and was funnier then most female and male stand up comics R.I.P Joan ❤️

      I even remember her from the Ed Sullivan show and how funny she was then. I love seeing the old clips of her and of the Johnny Carson show. Half the stuff they said back then would not be allowed now. It’s great having belly laughs.

    There is not a single young female comedian who approaches the stage presence, audience affinity, timing, and hilarity of this woman. This looks like huge fun, but very few performers could pull this off, and none in the current generation that I've seen.......and all of it done without gross profanity......She masterfully uses the power of suggestion.

    • @richardiritano1197
      @richardiritano1197 10 років тому +18

      That was Joan's comedy in the beginning, bboucharde--funny without profanity or shock value--just consistently great timing and irony. But somewhere in the early 1990s, her act became increasingly raw, uncooth and vulgar--as it became less funny. One of the reasons why I liked Joan in the beginning was because there was a tremendous talent that didn't rely on shock value (or excessive profanity, like Richard Pryor and too many others to name). Likewise, Rodney Dangerfield had a fine and dignified act, and in the 1980s, so did a very funny lady named Wendy Liebman (she never used profanity because her act and timing was a priceless example of great material and unsurpassed comedy). Having known Ms. Rivers since 1987 (because of her work with 'God's Love We Deliver,' where I was a benefactor), gave me a chance to see how genuinely kind and compassionate she was when the cameras weren't rolling. Although I never discussed her excessive profanity and vulgarity that she employed in her recent stage acts when I was invited to her home last year, it always bothered me (in my mind's eye), because she was so much funnier (and ironic) without the use of shock value. In the end, she was murdered by a reckless, starstruck doctor, whose medical license should be permanently revoked--followed by the longest jail sentence. A fatal tragedy of having been cut down in the extended prime of her strong and healthy life!

      ***** Your're welcome, bboucharde. There were many fine memories that I was fortunate to share over the years with Ms. Rivers. Always the gracious and caring hostess, I never detected a single false moment about her. Off camera, she centered her time, attention and interest on whomever happened to be a guest in her home, or a welcome friend or acquaintance. Therefore, it is so critically important to maintain a personal philosophy of mine that I've been saying for years: The business of life is the acquisition of memories. In the end, that's all that there is. I think of this bit of wisdom frequently as it relates to my life (and my unquiet mind, given the many good friends, family and acquaintances whom have passed on to glory), for whom I can sadly count Joan Rivers as one more tragic and untimely loss. I hope that the new year will bring you a renewed sense of purpose, contentment and faith--as I hope and pray for the very same for me and my close circle of friends, family and loved ones everywhere. Happy New Year. . .

    I've heard celebrities comment about Joan's passing and some made the distinction that her comedy became more caustic in the decades that followed her departure from the Tonight Show. On the Tonight Show, she mainly made fun of herself. She had a lot of comedic genius. She did not follow a script entirely. She could do great extemporaneous stuff on the fly - brilliant stuff.

    "females are not funny" This woman was a pioneer in dark and biting humour, Rivers tackled everything from personal hardships to celebrity culture with a sharp tongue. She was an inspiration for MEN and Women! And alot of MEN can't even touch this delivery. She did dark humor on TV back in the 70s for gods sake!!

      We don't want these things to be true. We pay vigilant attention to the facts which have not been forthcoming. Therefore, we are left with one single conclusion - and it isn't good. We paid attention because we cared. We understand the true outcome because we did pay attention.

    She's truly great! I'm just researching female Stand-Ups, and right before this one, I watched two consecutive (German) ones who constantly used audience members ... the first one, I thought: "your audience is funnier than you ..." and switched her off. The second one I actually thought: gal, you should pay that woman in the audience!" But of course, she didn't. Ok, I think, for relaxation I'll just watch something of Joan's. If Mary had a 37 y/o kid, assuming she had that kid at 18, Mary was 55 y/o in this show. That means Mary is 91 y/o today. I wonder if she still has Joan's shoes?

    She is hilarious, wished her show lasted a lot lot longer. But her decision to quit in support of her husband showed how great a person she is. I wish her the best.

    the energy she has and the natural flow is just amazing, no one will ever be like her, which is such a great shame! comedians forget you need characters to tell jokes and life stories now, not just coz your "blonde" or gay
