What a joy she was. A hilarious woman, who let it all out and a true original. I can't believe she is gone because she was someone you would expect to be there forever. May she make people laugh wherever she is, and we will never forget this legend. RIP Joan, you will never be forgotten.
There is not a single young female comedian who approaches the stage presence, audience affinity, timing, and hilarity of this woman. This looks like huge fun, but very few performers could pull this off, and none in the current generation that I've seen.......and all of it done without gross profanity......She masterfully uses the power of suggestion.
That was Joan's comedy in the beginning, bboucharde--funny without profanity or shock value--just consistently great timing and irony. But somewhere in the early 1990s, her act became increasingly raw, uncooth and vulgar--as it became less funny. One of the reasons why I liked Joan in the beginning was because there was a tremendous talent that didn't rely on shock value (or excessive profanity, like Richard Pryor and too many others to name). Likewise, Rodney Dangerfield had a fine and dignified act, and in the 1980s, so did a very funny lady named Wendy Liebman (she never used profanity because her act and timing was a priceless example of great material and unsurpassed comedy). Having known Ms. Rivers since 1987 (because of her work with 'God's Love We Deliver,' where I was a benefactor), gave me a chance to see how genuinely kind and compassionate she was when the cameras weren't rolling. Although I never discussed her excessive profanity and vulgarity that she employed in her recent stage acts when I was invited to her home last year, it always bothered me (in my mind's eye), because she was so much funnier (and ironic) without the use of shock value. In the end, she was murdered by a reckless, starstruck doctor, whose medical license should be permanently revoked--followed by the longest jail sentence. A fatal tragedy of having been cut down in the extended prime of her strong and healthy life!
***** Your're welcome, bboucharde. There were many fine memories that I was fortunate to share over the years with Ms. Rivers. Always the gracious and caring hostess, I never detected a single false moment about her. Off camera, she centered her time, attention and interest on whomever happened to be a guest in her home, or a welcome friend or acquaintance. Therefore, it is so critically important to maintain a personal philosophy of mine that I've been saying for years: The business of life is the acquisition of memories. In the end, that's all that there is. I think of this bit of wisdom frequently as it relates to my life (and my unquiet mind, given the many good friends, family and acquaintances whom have passed on to glory), for whom I can sadly count Joan Rivers as one more tragic and untimely loss. I hope that the new year will bring you a renewed sense of purpose, contentment and faith--as I hope and pray for the very same for me and my close circle of friends, family and loved ones everywhere. Happy New Year. . .

New Yorkers are by far the funniest stand-up comics. She has the accent the attitude and is very quick witted. Very intelligent as well and shrewed. :-)
Irish too. George carlin is my goat. I knew joan was a comedian growing up and was the occasional host of carson but never knew she was this funny. I found her as an adult and think she's one of the funniest ever. Definitely on of the heavyweights.
I've heard celebrities comment about Joan's passing and some made the distinction that her comedy became more caustic in the decades that followed her departure from the Tonight Show. On the Tonight Show, she mainly made fun of herself. She had a lot of comedic genius. She did not follow a script entirely. She could do great extemporaneous stuff on the fly - brilliant stuff.
"females are not funny" This woman was a pioneer in dark and biting humour, Rivers tackled everything from personal hardships to celebrity culture with a sharp tongue. She was an inspiration for MEN and Women! And alot of MEN can't even touch this delivery. She did dark humor on TV back in the 70s for gods sake!!
I saw her onstage decades ago. Hilarious right up to the end. She knew how to deliver a line and she proved it night after night all her professional life. 😢 Never be another as good
Joan Rivers is so funny and always so kind giving away flowers to the audience.Never been another like her and she was hysterically funny on Fashion Police me and my mum would fall onto the floor laughing everytime.
