    I had a Muslim man explain the lowering of gazes and the principle behind the hijab to me when I was sick in a hospital as a kid. He was my nurse. As an American in the south, I had never heard his take (which is the same as what you said in the video but you had more information) and i remember it truly surprising me that it was in his view a sign of respect for women. I had only heard it portrayed as a sign of oppression and a view of women as lesser than. So glad to hear different perspectives

      I actually disagree tho I feel like staring is kinda harmless considering most of the time people don't know the intention of the person who is staring. If the other person feels intimidated or creeped out by the person's stare then they should stop. I feel like staring at someone u think is atractive or any other reason is natural for a man or a woman. (I am a woman btw).
      I'm curious to know people's opinions on this tho so feel free to leave your opinion.

      @@potatopeeps7627 I think it’s a habit. Alhamdulillah I am married and happy with my husband. I never feel like staring at any guy 😂 nor I feel like “wo this guy is so handsome”. I don’t know what is it, but I really feel happy without this being part of my life😂 in that I mean the opposite gender. I just don’t think of men in that way (nor of women, I’m straight just to mention)

    Thank you for addressing the fact that modesty is a man’s job too. My brothers used to not want to go to the beach because so many women wouldn’t be dressed very well there. I didn’t understand it back then, but now I am proud of them for not wanting to look at women who weren’t dressed up enough. It is a man’s job to lower his gaze if possible. And also women need to dress modestly too. It’s on both genders. These are nice videos. I am Christian so I don’t wear hijab, but I can see why you do. Please keep making videos. They are very enjoyable. 😊

      It's unfair to say that most Muslim men don't follow the rules. I know many Muslim men, and fortunately many of them do follow the rules set down for them. Let's not give off the impression that all Muslim men are scum, because they're not. And frankly speaking, in my experience Muslim men are almost always more honourable than non-muslim men 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m always very curious and have my own mixed opinions (most of which I will not voice because literally no one asked and it’s others hair not mine) about hijabs and some explanations like “women are fragile and the hijab protects them” and “you’d want your phone with the case on right?” honestly just seem a bit sexist to me (again, no hate because it’s not my hair) but “women can be seen for more than just looks” just sounds like such a great way to word it

    Thank you for this video. It was really informative and helpful. Speaking from the point of view of a woman who does not wish to wear a hijab and is being forced to, I can tell you one thing: you can't force love and devotion, all you can do is make the person you are holding back hate you and want to get back at you for that. I did willingly wear a hijab at one point of time but now I no longer want to. For me it feels constricting and it reminds me of the way I am being slowly suffocated. I have come a long way in the practise of my religion and I do love Allah and I do wish to obey Him but on my own terms not the terms that others dictate to me. I don't believe that Allah wants us to be unhappy or stifle ourselves in order to follow our religion.

A lot of women in my country don't observe the hijab and my family was initially opposed to me wearing one despite being devout Muslims. It is a personal obligation and someone else cannot force it upon you, especially when you are an adult. There is no compulsion in religion. It is only natural that your hijab slips off a little when you wear it all day, it is ok if a few strands unintentionally show, that is not the purpose of it.

      Basically all the things you did in your life are measured or “weighed” on a scale
      some commands are heavy some are not

      Why questions are usually pretty hard to quantify especially with people having different value systems depending on where they grew up and what they've been exposed to during their life. In terms of Islam though if you follow that religion then through the Quran you can see modesty is promoted in more than just what you wear but also how you act towards others and how you should try to live your life.

    • @Sofiaode18
      @Sofiaode18 2 роки тому

      Modesty is just covering every attractive part of yourself so that men wouldn’t bother you. The irony is that men will do that anyway regardless of you’re dressed so you might as well look hot anyway. Muslim women in “modest” clothing aren’t allowed to do that since making yourself look attractive is actually highly discouraged in the Quran. You see muslim women with makeup and tight clothing but it’s not exactly “allowed” per se in islam. Why even follow this cult again?

    • @MaresBarres
      @MaresBarres 2 роки тому +16

      Not Muslim, but all Abrahamic religions value modesty as a quality. King Solomon wrote, "People who are proud will soon be disgraced. It is wiser to be modest." Paul said women should dress with modesty in a way that focuses attention on their good actions. So basically, modesty is a trait that shows wise humility instead of plain vanity and shows that you honor your person, your conscience, and the consciences of others. Clothing is a form of self-expression, so when someone chooses to dress modestly, they are empowering themselves to communicate how they want to be perceived in terms of their relationship with God.

Sometimes I have a hard time understanding why some in America have a problem with head coverings. In Catholicism, a lot of times, women wear head scarves in church. And while it was more to protect hair than cover it up, women in the 60's and 70's used to wear scarves all the time. People need to lighten up and let others live their lives as they see fit. • @himiko6433

      Information about Ramadan :
      Ramadan is the 9th and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar
      A common greeting at the start of the month is ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ which translates to Happy Ramadan.
      Muslims will start the fast by waking up before dawn to have a light meal called suhoor. They will then not eat or drink anything until sunset upon which they will open their fast with a meal called iftar. Traditionally iftar will start with some dates - which is a great gift to give for Muslims in Ramadan!
      Consequentially, Muslims may be more tired during the day as they slowly get use to waking up in the middle of the night to eat. However, by fasting and feeling the effects, Muslims are reminded of how fragile humans can be and how we’re dependent on God for the resources that He provides so we'll be thankful . Being hungry and thirsty throughout the day also allows for greater remembrance and compassion for the poor and the struggles that they face. Fasting is prescribed so that we may acquire self-control, patience and health improvement by reducing or eliminating impurities from the body
      Ramadan is also when Muslims try and do more physical good deeds than usual by giving to charity or helping those less fortunate.
      Many Muslims attempt to finish the recitation of the Quran (holy book) during the month. Some people perform an optional prayer called taraweh which takes place an hour after iftar and is usually 1.5-2hrs long. The aim here is to also finish the recitation of the Quran in congregation.
      Muslims don’t mind if you eat in front of them, we understand not everyone is fasting!
      Ramadan is also is also the time of the year where Muslims attempt to put all worldly matters to one side and focus on their connection with God. Therefore as much as Ramadan is a physical cleanse, the month is also seen as a spiritual cleanse. The amount of worship tends to ramp up in the last 10 days of Ramadan as they are more rewarding. It is during these days that the Quran began to be revealed, with the specific night called Laylat-ul-Qadr or The Night of Power.
      The month culminates after 29/30 days (depending on the moon sighting) with a celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr or Festival of Breaking the Fast. A common greeting on the day is ‘Eid Mubarak’ which translates to Happy Eid and is marked by celebrations where families and friends get together for Eid parties.

      Common questions asked about Ramadan:
      “You can still drink water right?”
      No, eating or drinking is not permitted while fasting. Fasting in Islam forbids you from ingesting anything.
      “Fasting for 30 days, how can you survive that?”
      It’s not a complete fast through day and night. Muslims are required to fast only when the sun is up!
      “Is Ramadan about understanding people who have to deal with hunger and thirst on a regular basis?”
      This is only a minor part of it, as the main goal is actually spiritual growth. If a Muslim is just going thirsty, hungry, and tired without avoiding cursing, smoking, fighting, arguing, gossiping, indulging in sexual activity or acting cranky, their fast turns useless and is a waste of time.
      “Isn’t fasting unhealthy?”
      In contrary to what most people think, fasting is actually good for your health. According to Live Science, “The most common eating pattern in modern societies of three meals daily, plus snacks, is abnormal from the perspective of human evolution.”
      And scientists have found that “intermittent fasting helps the body to rejuvenate and repair, thereby promoting overall health.”
      “What about sick people or children, do they still have to fast?”
      The answer is no. Only adult Muslims of good health may fast. Children (Under 13) and elderly people are not required to fast since it may be detrimental to their growth or health, respectively.
      Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have the option not to fast since their bodies are already being taxed. Women who are menstruating do not fast since; again, they are already dealing with demands on their bodies.
      People who have chronic health problems that fasting would exacerbate are not allowed to fast. People who come down with a serious, acute illness during the month are not allowed to fast. And people who are travelling have the option to fast or not to fast.
      The purpose of fasting should not be to harm oneself. And if there is likelihood that fasting will do serious harm, that Muslim is exempt from it. But don’t congratulate Muslims who cannot fast because many feel intense grief over not being able to participate in the fast of Ramadan.
      “Doesn’t Ramadan start in June?”
      Ramadan actually moves back approximately 10 days every year. This movement of the month is because every year Ramadan starts when the new moon is sighted for the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Each month is 29-30 days long depending on the lunar cycle. This means that each year the month of Ramadan moves up 10 days in relation to the Gregorian calendar. The Ramadan in 2002 was in November, in 2016 it was in June and this year in 2018 it started in May. Because of the moving month, everyone gets to experience Ramadan in different seasons of the year. There is a kind of equality that a moving month affords because no one part of the world has to always fast in the long, hot days of summer months while another gets to fast in the shorter and cooler days of the fall and winter months.

      it’s basically intermittent fasting, except you cant chew gum or drink water or consume anything. sick people or food disorders (diabetics, e4ting disorders, etc) are exempt. you can eat and drink from dusk till dawn and then the cycle repeats for 30 days :)

As an English teacher now I want to be welcoming to all people in my class but I also like to start class with music sometimes. Is that practice not helpful or permissible to any Muslim students I may have? I teach at a diverse school and I think it is possible that I could have a Muslim student in the future

    • @thelemurofmadagascar9183
      @thelemurofmadagascar9183 2 роки тому +3

      Yes, listening to musical instruments is impermissible in Islam. It's possible that it might make some Muslims uncomfortable if they have no choice but to listen to it in class. That being said, the impermissibility regarding music is only limited to musical instruments and not human vocals. If you really want to have music in your class, maybe you could use purely acapella type of songs that don't contain any musical instruments.

You have to wear Infront of men to show respect and wearing Infront of women is kind of not necessary. Ofc you don't have to wear it Infront of ur father, husband and etc. But I think u have to wear Infront of the people you don't see often. It's also to protect u from the heat. In Islam the roles for "men" and "women" are typically defined through biological traits, so for example women can't do certain things during menstruation and the definition of "men/women" is defined biologically through sex organs for example (it does also include intersex definition for people inbetween)... so I would assume the people that can see the women without the covering would be dependent on the sex not the gender identity.

      "though they aren't as severe as the hijab for women"
      Oh sister, so you also consider this severe as compared to men, why always women do more and receive less?
      And why I'm watching this video is because i genuinely wanted to learn about it. If you're against logic that doesn't prohibit you to watch videos about the same. It's your choice.
      The thing I dislike about hijab is that Muslim families(not all obv) kinda persuade their girl child into thinking they should wear because it's mandatory and something very imp like food and water, they never let them question why they should wear it. Even if the answer to the question is this is for Allah(ah cmon do you think the creator of everything will ever bother whether a normal human life wear some piece of cloth or no), OR it will bless them in their afterlife, well there's no proof for it. It's like you're believing in something which might or might not exist. There's no room for scrutiny. As if you question and quest the real reason you may find wearing or not wearing hijab doens't make any difference. But I've seen some people in my country, omg they are like if their girl denies hijab they are even ready to kill them. I'm so against their rotten belief omg.
      Anyways if a girl wants to do it culturally or occasionally, well wow hijab looks so pretty to me. I myself wear it with my Muslim friends sometimes in their house when I visit, like today on Eid. But making it religiously MANDATORY is something I'm against.

    Another modesty rule for Muslim men that people don't usually talk about is not wearing gold jewelry or too much if you have a wedding ring in order to be more humble/modest.
