I must say you are a UA-cam “It Girl”. There are a lot of people who post cooking videos and even quite a few that post vintage cooking videos but you are a natural in front of the camera and your beautiful personality shines through. I’m glad your husband bought you that camera now we all get to enjoy you. I predict your channel will grow quite large just because of the “IT” factor, thanks for all the videos they are a treat.

I have my grandma's tupperware jello mold, it doesn't have the center bundt it has a center that has interchangeable discs, one is a christmas tree, a turkey, a heart and a flower. I don't know if there were other ones. I actually want to make this😅. I make a vegetable lime jello that most people in my family like and sunshine jello that has carrots in it.
I love the tupperware measuring cups and spoons. My mom had those when I was little.

So, trick from another "I don't like crunchy onions or celery" person: grate the onion on either the smaller side of the box grater or on the zester side of the box grater. And you can get the flavor of celery without the texture by adding a pinch of ground celery seed.

My last dog lived to be about 17; she was a rescue at 3-4 years old and we had her for 13 1/2 years. She finally became so arthritic and confused (chronic vestibular syndrome, which is like "dog Alzheimer's") that nothing could make her comfortable and we had to let her go. It's been 12 years and we still miss her. We were lucky to have her that long and that she was like a young dog until the last 6-8 months. It's never enough time.

I want to say thank you for putting on these videos. I find it relaxing to watch your video. Read your recipes. Hence I'm learning how to cook. I have to say my grandma used to make this jello ring. and it was really good. I think she used lemon jello, though. I could be wrong. but I always wondered how she made it. I look at my scrapbooks all the time, the trips I have documented the places I have been, people say to me "you scrapbook oh that sounds like a waste of time and money". But they bring me such joy...I always wanted to teach scrapbooking on youtube but feel like no one will watch or everyone will leave bad comments, don't think I can handle that rejection. I'm so glad to see this niche of people showing old recipes/cookbooks and having inter-generational conversations through food. My latest favorite cookbook is one from the 1880s promoting woman's suffrage I found at a library. From one generation to the next (I'm nearly 28), I find it wonderful that you're casting such a wide net. Totally agree with you about the product booklets being hidden gems.

Ok! I have just discovered you a week ago! I love the episodes I have seen so far! I’m in my mid 50s and my mom and grandma had so many old school recipes like the ones you try! Give me a recipe with good ol Campbell mushroom soup anytime! Wish I had found you during the pandemic! Keep up the good work! You are a sweetheart and love to see how the recipes turn out!

I’m actually posting a second comment because I wanted my comment about Dottie to be a standalone. I absolutely adore your channel. With all the vintage cookbooks that I lost in a cross country move it is very comforting for me to watch your channel and suddenly there’s something that I had at one point and I don’t have it anymore. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. Um about the celery… I take it a homemade(ish) cream of celery soup, with a crisp celery salad on the side, no matter how much the vintage cookbook raves about how delicious it is will not be the 15,000 subscriber celebration? 🎉👩‍🍳🍲

I know why I love your channel so much. I feel like you're approachable. I love my verrry old cookbooks and making the dishes. I finally organized my culled down collection by categories. It took a while just staring at the bookshelf and rearranging them until it looked just right. I'm going to challenge myself to cook from each cookbook every week. I'm not sure how long it will take but I have loads of brand leaflets and soft cover church cookbooks so I better live to be a hundred years old. In other words, we are kindred souls. You're the best!

Wow, your story about Dottie really resonated with me-- I had a 16 year old dog, my absolute constant companion, his name was Horus. He also developed seizures in the last year of his life, went through huge temperament changes, and I eventually had to make the hard decision too.. .I've never gotten over that.

OK, I discovered you about 8 months ago, and after the first video, I did, OF COURSE, subscribe. One thing I loved was that you are so real. Julia Child made mistakes, and kept on truckin'. You do too! I hate to go there, but I must. I miss Dottie. We had to put down our Lizzie (Borden) a year ago. She started having seizures, so I relate to your situation. She was with us for 15 years, and I "hear" her still today. I feel your pain, Anna. SO...don't make any more gelatin molds! (Kinda sounds like an Aspic?) Love you, and keep on truckin'!!!

You are so, so brave to make this recipe. I have just recently started watching your channel and this one is my favorite so far. Not because of this recipe, it was disgusting, but because you revealed so much of yourself. Keep up the good work. We love you.

I use the unflavored stuff in making gummy bears. Diabetic. So, it's pretty good. The sugar free ones, are really hard on the digestive tract. One of the funniest things I've read on the internet is when I googled reactions/reviews to sugar free gummy bears. LOL Hysterical! Congrats on 10K. Tasting History put out a video on Betty Crocker a few weeks back. He went through the history of Betty Crocker in his pineapple upside down cake video.

YES some of those reviews are hilarious!! I really enjoyed Max Miller's video. I highly recommend my friend Melinda's channel - Unboxing Betty - if you haven't watched her videos already. She's cooking her way through every recipe card in Betty's 1971 Recipe Card Library!

    • @rhiahlMT

@@cooking_the_books Yeah, I've been watching Melinda's stuff. I was horrified when she didn't rinse the chipped beef before using the stuff. It's really good. But, I can't imagine how salty that dish was. Someone from that era would have known you have to put it in cold water for about 15 minutes then dump that water and put fresh water in for another 15 minutes. I felt so bad for her, that had to be just awful.

I’ve been curious how you tracked your cookbooks and it’s year, so I was happy you hear you touch on this topic.
You’ve inspired me to start looking at cookbooks in the wild and I picked up some this weekend while out with my mom. I was really drawn to a pamphlet that also had handwritten recipes tucked in and ones clipped from newspapers. I think about how the previous owner took the time and care to put together. I also bought a few church booklets and flipping through one, I found the same recipe my grandma use to make for me & felt kismet.
Your husband sounds like a great partner and so supportive of your interests which is just wonderful. Congrats again on 10K.

I love your harvest gold Tupperware measuring cups and all the other vintage items you use. Your videos never disappoint. You were meant to share your love of vintage cookbooks and recipes. Lucky us! So sorry to hear about Dottie… she was a real cutie pie and was clearly much loved. You’re right though, it’s never enough time. Never. I read somewhere that the day we bring a furry one home and make them part of our family, we also sign up to get our hearts broken one day. I know exactly what you went through and how you feel. There’s nothing harder than losing a loyal friend who is literally with you 24/7.
