Re: Keeping green onions fresh longer. Since I always use my green onions sliced anyway, the best way I have found is to quickly wash fresh ones, dry and immediately slice them. They will keep for at least a couple of weeks + this way. They are always ‘ready to go! Use to garnish a casserole, salad, baked potato or tacos etc.

I make a southwest chicken salad. Romaine, diced peppers, corn, black beans and chicken. I make my own dressing by adding bbq sauce to ranch dressing. Top salad with tortilla salad strips. So good.
That first salad LOL. It was so sweet and funny watching you put together the salad for Patrick. I was sad when he took the tomatoes off! I used to be exactly that way, but now I go out of my way to put tomato on things (it's got to be chopped very small though!). But yeah, it needed some ranch and he got that taken care of.
how cool is this..... I just finished eating my salad and then sat down to watch this video. My salad was a cracker salad!! haha I had never heard of it until I saw Paula Deen make one. These look so good! Since you love salad one of my favorites I copied from a restaurant I used to go to. On a bed of lettuce put a sliced chicken breast that’s cooked with teriyaki sauce, slivered almonds, mandarin oranges and cheese. They served it with poppyseed dressing but I’ve started loving sweet onion vinaigrette.

You do what I used to do before a teacher at a cooking class brought it to my attention. When I sliced something, the knife would go through the food and hit the cutting board (which is okay) but then I would drag the knife towards me along the cutting board, in essence cutting up the board and dulling the knife AFTER the food was already cut. The teacher told me to learn to cut DOWN and then stop and not drag the knife afterwards. Thanks for your video (and the memory of that lesson)!

For keeping green onions fresher longer: I found a tall plastic pitcher with removable lid with a pour spout. Wash the onions well, trim the roots short, don't cut off, then chop off the tops of the green part so that the onions will fit the pitcher. Add fresh water to about half full and put the lid on. Keep in the fridge. You may have to change the water every other day or so, but my onions last quite a while with this method.

You make your salads pretty. With your avocado pit, bang it and twist with your knife. If you kind of squeeze the skin, the green part should come out.

@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I laughed at the tomato thing bc not sure if u remember I love them SO MUCH I sometimes give them up for lent - u know whatever is dear to ur heart u give up to remember the sacrifice our Lord made? Maybe tell him how they improve eyesight so he can get that buck in hunting season? 🤭🤣 Have a sweet weekend dear Sis - I love u right back!
@sandybowman7140 lol I am going to have to tell my prayer group about my friend Sandy who gives up tomatoes for Lent 😂🤣 but you are exactly right about the reasoning ❤️👍🏻 And I will tell Patrick what you said about the tomatoes improving his aim too 😂
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I hope both get a hearty laugh!! I'm sure tomatoes will be on the table at the big wedding feast of the bride & bridegroom in heaven - they were first introduced in Italy and u know that's God's neck of the woods (Mediterranean?). 🤭🤣
I am so glad to see you washing and spinning your lettuce! I cringe when I see someone just open and use salad mixes WIthOUT washing it. Your salads look amazing. I will be trying some soon. They are perfect for our hot summers!
Tip for keeping green onions going. When you use onions, cut off to about 1" above roots. take those roots and put in small shallow jar. (like a small jelly jar) Cover with water to about 1" above roots or more. Change water about once a week with fresh water. Add more bottoms as you use them. I place in fridge in back. They will grow back. I always have green onion as I need them. Never run out when I need for recipe.
Mel, put a dish towel under the avocado before you take out the seed and cut it into pieces. That will protect your hand from cuts. Hope this helps! Carla from Texas

@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMelwhen I was growing up my sister (one year younger than me) was Mama's helper in the house and helped her cook. I was daddy's helper outside mowing and washing the car. The look on his face when he takes his first bite makes it worth it to me. Nice chatting with you, look forward to more videos.

I love the Rada knives. Our women’s group at church sold those a long time ago. The tomato knife is great and I love the little whisk. Next time I make cornbread salad, I’m going to use that Mexican mix and see how we like it. Everything looked so good. We eat chicken a lot. Thanks!
😄 "Just a sprinkle, it's not getting baptized"😄! I'm grateful today, found you and "Tastefully Grace Southwest Salad", Thank you, been needing a good knife set and just ordered using your promo code 💓
Thank you so much for your kind words and I'm so happy that you're here and found some great new ideas. And I can't wait for you to get your Rada knives, you're going to love them.
Rada knives are great. Don't put them in the dishwasher because it discolors the handles. They're a wonderful southern knife. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Everything looks Delicious! I had to laugh at Patrick! I😂🤣 Have A Great Weekend 💕💕
I was drooling through this entire video. All if the salads look amazing! Have you ever tried Brianna’s poppyseed dressing? It’s my favorite. I’ve been using Rada knives for years and have never found any better knives. I even have some my grandmother used for decades and they’re still going strong! Tfs and God bless 🩷
I haven't seen that dressing, I will be on the lookout for it. And I love my Rada knives, too!
the bbq sauce is so good because of the tomatoes!
I’m going to have to try ALL of these salads! Everything looks so delicious!
Have a blessed week sweet friend. ❤
You have a great week too friend and thank you so much for being here!
Running a fork down the cucumber is nice, too. I love your salad recipes they look delicious I'm definitely going to make all of them
I think the Georgia Cracker Salad sounds the best!!! I've never had it, but I sure am going to try it! Our whole family loves salads. Especially myself and my daughter-in-law! Goodness, I know she and I could eat that whole bowl! In fact when we go to Gatlinberg for our Thanksgiving cabin trip, I'm going to make this! I know you made this video awhile ago. I hope you get this comment! ❤❤❤
All the salads looked great. I'd eat any of them!
Love to you! ❤❤❤
I hope you do love these, I am a huge salad lover too. Especially the cracker salad, so good! Thanks so much for watching and hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving in Gatlinburg!
I am not a fan of tomatoes but once you try home grown sun sugar ones you will love them. They taste like cherries so sweet.
Whenever I make chili I make cornbread, even in the hottest days of summer. I freeze any leftovers but they don't reheat well since the freezer dries them out. Then I make cornbread salad..a tasty, hearty meal to feed hungry kids/spouses/whomever.....thank you for sharing a recipe!
Oh my, that fruity salad near the end looks divine. I’d eat it for breakfast.
Yum! Thanks for the great looking salad ideas!
You are so very welcome, enjoy them all summer!
I love the RADA paring knives.
Me too, had mine for years and use them for everything!
Oh, and that 1st salad! Love love love!
Thanks! 😊
Just found your channel. Love salads of any kind. Will definitely try these. I’m an East Tennessee gal myself.
Sending prayers. God bless all of you ❤
You make your salads pretty. With your avocado pit, bang it and twist with your knife. If you kind of squeeze the skin, the green part should come out.
I enjoy trying new recipes i also try them 3 times depending on the dish.
It is so nice to see a face behind the voice thank you
You are So Sweet and you make me laugh 😂 Love to you and thank you for your yummy recipes!
Love them all I pot crackers in mine all the time great flavor👍🏻👍🏻
These salads look so yummy. I have never made a cornbread salad but have wanted to. Happy Memorial day ❤ I have never tried the crackers salad either. Thanks for sharing, Mel😊

I’m new to your channel (I discovered you a couple of weeks ago). My husband has been the cook in our family but I’ve found that I really want to learn more. I’ve learned so much from you already! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful recipes in a way that even I feel like I could try them!
Awh, thank you so much for introducing yourself, I am so happy that you're here!
@@sandybowman7140 ❤️😂
Am not a salad person but these salads look yummy. These salads are a keeper for potlucks. New sub here.
Salads can be yummy, right 🤣 Thanks so much for watching and subscribing, I'm so happy that you're here!
Place avocado on cutting board. Palm flat on top to stabilize & spin slowly while cutting. Squeeze sides to release the pit.
I am so glad to see you washing and spinning your lettuce! I cringe when I see someone just open and use salad mixes WIthOUT washing it. Your salads look amazing. I will be trying some soon. They are perfect for our hot summers!
That southwest chicken salad looks AMAZING!!!!!
Never run out when I need for recipe.
the cornbread salad looks delicious...dts/usa
Mel, put a dish towel under the avocado before you take out the seed and cut it into pieces. That will protect your hand from cuts. Hope this helps! Carla from Texas
I have made your Salisbury steak recipe several times. I make freezer meals for my husband to take to work and he loves it.
Oh that is my hubby's favorite too! It tickles me so much to know that my videos are helpful for you. 😊
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel don't get me wrong, I am an excellent cook but always looking for something different. I feel like sometimes I cook the same ol same ol.
Me too, that's one of the reasons I began my channel... it holds me accountable to finding and trying new things. And cooking did not come naturally to me 🤣 lots of trials and errors (still)
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMelwhen I was growing up my sister (one year younger than me) was Mama's helper in the house and helped her cook. I was daddy's helper outside mowing and washing the car. When I married I couldn't cook, should have seen my first attempt at fried chicken, but though trial and error I figured it out. My husband much rather me cook than eat out. The look on his face when he takes his first bite makes it worth it to me. Nice chatting with you, look forward to more videos.
The salads look delicious!!! Tell Patrick I do the same thing with cucumbers. Lol.i understand. Thanks for the recipes. I luv the knives.❤❤
LOL, honey we've all got our likes and dislikes, no problems right. And I just love my Rada knives too, the best!
