They unretconned her death but it's still kind of "eh" damage control. It's revealed that the Leliana you meet in DA2 and DA: Inquisition is a Fade spirit of some sort, only if she died in Origins. Personally, while I appreciate this as a form of retcon damage control, I still would've preferred they replace her if she died in Origins. Otherwise, why even give the option of killing her in the first place?
+alex14676 As Origins is really good, the other ones are too, any Dragon Age game wasn't too big on exploring, if anything Inquisition is more open and exploitative(but it more or less bores me), you can't go certain places in Origins or DA2 which I didn't like too much, and I don't like how there is less RPG elements in the newer games, but I do like how they made playing it strategic in fighting was made an option rather than mandatory like Origins was (I sucked at it : / )
GamerWolf You have to take in consideration that's how it's supposed to be. Strategy was very integral with isometric rpgs especially the ones made by Bioware. DA 2 barely had any of the strategic elements that Origins had and Inquisition canned what was left of it.
Joshua Derr I am aware of that, some of my favorite games is KoTOR and KoTOR 2 which I think are very strategic games, but I personally enjoy in Dragon Age it being a choice, I haven't used the the strategy view in DA:I much I don't know if it sucks or not. I'm not enjoying how BioWare is changing, (I blame EA) they're becoming less RPG and more Fantasy/Action Games with a very heavy story. I'll still play the games and enjoy them too because I love the stories and universe, but I certainly didn't like the lack of dialogue options, choices, and cutscene type conversations in DA:I, along with major RPG elements taken away

DA:O was one of those rare games that write themselves into your heart and you never forget them. I still remember when I finished the game and end titles rolled down and I started crying. I did not want it to end: I did not want to leave the story.
I am like you bro…I love this game I can’t believe I haven’t played it until this late 😭 I completed the series and I have to say this game is so so close to the heart, even tho DAI had a very decent story and compelling character storylines.
The reason its so rare is because this game had a total of 6-10 years development time (I've seen multiple sources cite different amount of years so its hard to say for sure). Compare this to DA2 only had a year and a half (Production lasted just nine months). Dragon Age Inquisition was a total of 4 years with 3 years of Production.

And I lit already said it was somewhere 6-10 years based on multiple sources. I know one of the writers David Gaider said in a eurogamer interview he was at least busy with it the game for 6 years. The Wiki pages quotes a source saying development for the first Demo started in 2002 (the game released in 2009) meaning the game took at least 7 years to develop. This doesn't even take preproduction into account as they are talking about development of a demo in 2002. Which is why it probably took more then 7 years.
"this game had a soul". This is my main issue with DA Inquisition. I found no soul in it in all of the huge areas. DA2 was a tragic mess, but it was a technical mess that had a soul buried in it. Inquisition was just a shiny game... I mean, the Jaws of Haakon DLC gave me more emotions than the main game. What's up with that.

@@olirikable I disagree. the main story, companions, soundtrack and arts in inquisition were really good. I think where the game fell short is in the side content and combat system. It's just a massive downgrade in depth and customization compared to origins. The game definitely had soul, its just that whoever was the lead designer in building interactive and engaging areas absolutely sucked. Sadly that's a very big portion of the game.

For real man, ive seen some compare baulders gate 3 to DAO, while allot of old bioware did work on that game, its characters just aren't on the level of this game (dragon age orgins story blows BG3s to high hell)
@@delta2372 I actually agree. Trying to play BG3 and it just bores me. Can't get past Act 1. Some of the quests just seem clunky. Especially Gobln Camp. I completed DAO with every ending....that is how good that game is.
@@mrfreeman2911 act 1 Is definitely a slog to get through, now it's normal for any games opening acts to usually be slow since it's the big build to the larger story and while it does pick up in the next act, the problem is that BG3 has allot of clunk to it, DAO had that aswell but the difference comes down to the writing. DAO depending on your origin you had a major life changing event and join an order of warriors dedicated to preventing the end of world form a demonic threat that is limitless and the subsequent massacre at ostagar you have one hell of an intro for DAO before you get into the one slow part of the early game that being the first village you go to. BG3 has it's "origins" aswell but it more or less plays out the same and instead of one bombastic intro to get things started, you have one very long slog to get through the entire early game before you get into the meat of it, while it must have done something right winning game of the year, you generally want to make things as exciting and engaging for the player in your opening act lest people drop it.
@@delta2372 Nostalgia. As someone who has played BG3 recently and finished it and is currently over 20 hours into Dragon Age Origins cause I wanted to try it out, BG3 destroys Dragon Age Origins. BG3 has better companions and the story is just as good, the level of detail is so good that I have already started multiple play throughs. Dragon Age Origins is fantastic but I don't see myself playing a second play through. The current Bioware should learn something from what BG3 did and get inspired for their next Dragon Age game cause I doubt Veilgurd is going to be as good as BG3

It's probably the best Origin in the game and you feel so involved in the story because you have a part in the game like the other companions and the world reacts to you. I am currently playing the Dragon Age Origins human backstory and my background doesn't really do much except for providing an explanation for companions and some NPC while in the Baldurs Gate 3 Dark Urge Origin you're known, you're feared by some, you're hated by others and you had some questionable alliances in the past. Your companions also show concern for your condition and you can either submit to your urge or overcome it and be good, it's a fantastic redemption story if you play the good route.
I say the same as one who played this and future series. What the hell happened with developers? Where have been perished that good team who made this master piece?! Don't give a fuk on graphics when the story and gameplay is 0.

The problems began since Dragon age 2 with Eas involvement, me Andromeda production hell from a team inside of Bioware that worked only on me3 multiplayer, the lack of support on Anthem. All this led to Bioware to become a shadow of its former self. Thankfully Bioware didn't close yet and I'm afraid for the future the reception for Veil guard is lacking but I think the only good thing that came out from the EAs money are the money that Bioware spend to make Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2 I don't think without them we could have got both masterpieces.

EXACTLY especially the Ostagar aftermath part, the music turns to melancholic like in Flemeth's hut and Alistair's grief over losing Duncan. "For the Grey Wardens" part also reminds me of the march to Denerim and the speech of soon-to-be King Alistair (in my version).
+Michiify am I only around here, who dislikes DA3 controls? Seriously, 'tactic overwiev' shows less then third person. third person required moveing by 'wasd' and keep attacks. Binary AI customizations... Dragon Age was like Baldur's Gate, and now...? IMO, DA2 is more likely to DA1 than DA3.
The Corpulent Panda I can't agree at all. Inquisition have great story, i love beeing herold, and my advaisors, full open world, and details like portraits of my companions... I just can't stand battle system. In fact, team do what they will, Tactics only allow them to use abbilities, not depend on situation like previous games. In third person, you play like some hack'n'slash, and 'tactical' view shows even less then default view. DA2 was great refresh, mindfull battles, with cool looks. in DAI, it's more like keeps you character attack.
If you are reading this and haven't played this game yet, I want you to know that I envy you. What I wouldn't give to load this masterpiece up for the first time again. One hell of a farewell from old Bioware.
rip kotor, neverwinter nights, baldur's gate, and dragon age, rip Bioware, your sacrifice will not be forgotten. your betrayal to EA will also never be forgotten.
The only downside of the "first time" is its very difficult on first timer. Remember the first town? There is an encounter which you battle 20+ damn wolves. I know it sounds easy but believe me, wolves here in orgins can stunlock your whole party.
Best game in the RPG Genre. Sure the graphics are dated, BUT STORY! CHARACTERS! VOICE ACTING! Love them all. Love the characters. This soundtrack tells a lot of the story in it of itself.

watch wardens calling video/read in game books for origins it says it the way I put it. I t also makes more sense, In peace they are vigilant looking for possible trouble and in war when it arises they are victorious and when they die during war or going into the deep roads it is great sacrifice. I had played Dragon Age: Inquisition recently. It was my first introduction to the series lol. So many people told me that I needed to play Dragon Age: Origins as well. So, with no particular feelings one way or the other. I got the game. It loaded up. And I heard this. I was so taken by the song, my mouth literally dropped open and I sat there for 5 minutes just listening to this main theme. Honestly, this is probably one of the most beautiful themes I have ever heard in my life. Being musically inclined, I love when video games have really good music design. And just by listening to this music, I was in complete awe. I've never heard anything quite like this. I just had to look this song up on UA-cam lol.

I discovered this game for the first time ever a few weeks back.. And boy i never felt such emotions for a game. That i could play it forever and still feel those intense emotions.
I missed it way back. Started a new game for the first time last week and I've been utterly hooked. I'm doing a wabbajack modlist so all the textures etc are all 4k and QoL features. Unreal.

But my god, regardless this game just has something nostalgic, special, beautiful. As everyone else says, it has soul. The more time passes the more i appreciate this game. It scratched my nostalgic itch for old-school cRPGs back in 2009, and now it's become one of those games i feel nostalgic for. The only Dragon Age game i ever played and i'll keep it this way.
When this song played and the final battle began, I was shook. All the effort to bring Grey Wardens back from ashes fo traitors, to the point where everyone cheered you on like a savior, the sense of fulfillment was grand beyond words.
Most of use moved onto BG3 and Larian. Bioware and EA k1lled this franchise. Origins was the best game I ever played. They ruined this franchise so hard.

With these units of meaning, you can then build full words and sentences. Therefore, it's not gibberish anymore. I don't know to what extent Elvehn was constructed and how consistent the grammar is, but I do know that there's at least some regularity.

Veilguard, in my lonely opinon, do not deserve the title of Dragon Age. It may be in the same universe, with familiar faces all around, maybe it has some elements of fun here and there. It might even be not that bad... But it lacks the true soul of Dragon age. It is a fade, unpalatable simulacrum of something that was once great. Thus, I come back to the DAO theme. Certainly not for the last time, since I'm going to keep hearing this fantastic music till the day of my death. But I'm here to put to rest all my hopes and dreams for a new Dragon age game. Goodbye old friend. You have once brought me great joy. But now your time has come to rest. And though my heart has become grey and slow. I shall forever remember the tales, the laughs and the cries. after having the game for nearly 3 years, I finally sat down and played it for the first time this past week. I had started with DAI back in 2018, played 2 for the first time a few months ago, and now I finally got to play origins. Yes, I am incredibly tardy to the party. And while I'm mad at myself for not buying these back when they originally came out, I feel like because I waited til now?? I could fully appreciate these games. I'm replaying the whole series in order, now, and just. It's so nice to truly grasp everything now that i've played them all. I picked up stuff over the years (even before playing), but now having played first-hand....? just,,, wow. Origins takes the fuckin cake, man. I don't think I can rank them/choose a favourite, as they all play differently for me, but wow. Origins blew me away. Hearing this play in-game for the first time gave me chills. Origins is one of my favorite games and only DA game i enjoyed i tried Inqusition like 3 or 4 times but story and characters are not interesting in my opinion atmosphere is also completly different than in DAO i completed DA2 once but dont want to play this game ever again.
Who needs sten or Alistair when you have your goddamn dog? I always have him in my party, and I loved the dialogue option when you go into the proving grounds. "I will fight with my loyal hound" Or something along those lines.
I've played this game since it came out, every year I play through it twice... its 2020 and I have officially done every quest with every race and every class... still playing... BEST RPG EVER MADE
So many memories. The game was so good and had so much personality that I had the pleasure of playing with other classes and races just to get a different (and rewarding) gaming experience. Besides the characters having interesting and diverse profiles, the dialogues had authenticity and quality. It was easy for the player to get involved in history and with "people" like that.
I just finished Veilguard, i pirated it, im not paying for that zombie identifying as Dragon age. It had some good moments, but over all its just a movie on rails that you can color a bit with lines and unappealing companions. Solas memories was a high note, because it touched on Origins questions we wanted to know. And the ending was Epick but over all after finishing it i feel sad that, that is the Dragon age we got when there was this potential for greatness.
@Dexyu there is nothing good about the story or the lore. The elves did everything and Southern Thedas is completely destroyed. Also spooky Illuminati ghosts were behind everything. If they don't decanonize Veilguard this franchise is done.
It's been seven years. This theme still gives me chills. I think every game in this franchise was excellent, but Origins seemed particularly special to me. I'm not sure if there's any particular reason other than it being our introduction to the setting, but everything about it just seemed awesome.

For real man, ive seen some compare baulders gate 3 to DAO, while allot of old bioware did work on that game, its characters just aren't on the level of this game (dragon age orgins story blows BG3s to high hell)

Trying to play BG3 and it just bores me. Can't get past Act 1. Some of the quests just seem clunky. Especially Gobln Camp.
I completed DAO with every ending....that is how good that game is.
@@mrfreeman2911 act 1 Is definitely a slog to get through, now it's normal for any games opening acts to usually be slow since it's the big build to the larger story and while it does pick up in the next act, the problem is that BG3 has allot of clunk to it, DAO had that aswell but the difference comes down to the writing.
DAO depending on your origin you had a major life changing event and join an order of warriors dedicated to preventing the end of world form a demonic threat that is limitless and the subsequent massacre at ostagar you have one hell of an intro for DAO before you get into the one slow part of the early game that being the first village you go to.
BG3 has it's "origins" aswell but it more or less plays out the same and instead of one bombastic intro to get things started, you have one very long slog to get through the entire early game before you get into the meat of it, while it must have done something right winning game of the year, you generally want to make things as exciting and engaging for the player in your opening act lest people drop it.
@@delta2372 Nostalgia. As someone who has played BG3 recently and finished it and is currently over 20 hours into Dragon Age Origins cause I wanted to try it out, BG3 destroys Dragon Age Origins. BG3 has better companions and the story is just as good, the level of detail is so good that I have already started multiple play throughs. Dragon Age Origins is fantastic but I don't see myself playing a second play through. The current Bioware should learn something from what BG3 did and get inspired for their next Dragon Age game cause I doubt Veilgurd is going to be as good as BG3
@@delta2372 Have you not played the Dark Urge origin? It's probably the best Origin in the game and you feel so involved in the story because you have a part in the game like the other companions and the world reacts to you. I am currently playing the Dragon Age Origins human backstory and my background doesn't really do much except for providing an explanation for companions and some NPC while in the Baldurs Gate 3 Dark Urge Origin you're known, you're feared by some, you're hated by others and you had some questionable alliances in the past. Your companions also show concern for your condition and you can either submit to your urge or overcome it and be good, it's a fantastic redemption story if you play the good route.
I used to just let it sit on the menu so I could hear the music at least once, good memories. Can't believe this game will be six next year

The problems began since Dragon age 2 with Eas involvement, me Andromeda production hell from a team inside of Bioware that worked only on me3 multiplayer, the lack of support on Anthem. All this led to Bioware to become a shadow of its former self. Thankfully Bioware didn't close yet and I'm afraid for the future the reception for Veil guard is lacking but I think the only good thing that came out from the EAs money are the money that Bioware spend to make Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2 I don't think without them we could have got both masterpieces.

After watching Veilguard for a few minutes, I came here to remind myself why I loved this game.
Dragon Age was meant to be standalone, when you remember that, nothing truly invalidates the previous games.

EXACTLY especially the Ostagar aftermath part, the music turns to melancholic like in Flemeth's hut and Alistair's grief over losing Duncan. "For the Grey Wardens" part also reminds me of the march to Denerim and the speech of soon-to-be King Alistair (in my version).

The Corpulent Panda I can't agree at all. Inquisition have great story, i love beeing herold, and my advaisors, full open world, and details like portraits of my companions... I just can't stand battle system. In fact, team do what they will, Tactics only allow them to use abbilities, not depend on situation like previous games. In third person, you play like some hack'n'slash, and 'tactical' view shows even less then default view.
DA2 was great refresh, mindfull battles, with cool looks. in DAI, it's more like keeps you character attack.

The only downside of the "first time" is its very difficult on first timer. Remember the first town? There is an encounter which you battle 20+ damn wolves. I know it sounds easy but believe me, wolves here in orgins can stunlock your whole party.

Best game in the RPG Genre. Sure the graphics are dated, BUT STORY! CHARACTERS! VOICE ACTING! Love them all. Love the characters. This soundtrack tells a lot of the story in it of itself.
at least the graphics have a bit of life in them (good expressions, some unique animations, and some interesting art direction)

I had played Dragon Age: Inquisition recently. It was my first introduction to the series lol. So many people told me that I needed to play Dragon Age: Origins as well. So, with no particular feelings one way or the other. I got the game. It loaded up. And I heard this. I was so taken by the song, my mouth literally dropped open and I sat there for 5 minutes just listening to this main theme. Honestly, this is probably one of the most beautiful themes I have ever heard in my life. Being musically inclined, I love when video games have really good music design. And just by listening to this music, I was in complete awe. I've never heard anything quite like this. I just had to look this song up on UA-cam lol.

The more time passes the more i appreciate this game. It scratched my nostalgic itch for old-school cRPGs back in 2009, and now it's become one of those games i feel nostalgic for. The only Dragon Age game i ever played and i'll keep it this way.

the way Baldur's Gate 3 is more DA than Dragon Age the veilguard is crazy
-Dragon Age Origins was a masterpiece, one that even today, stand proudly among the greatest of all fantasy games of all times.
-Dragon Age II was, unfortunately, not as good as his predecessor, yet in hindsight, we can see the effort and love put in it
-Dragon Age Inquisition was a good rebound from II, intriguing storyline and fantastic characters even if yet again the glory of Origins wasn't quite reached.
Veilguard, in my lonely opinon, do not deserve the title of Dragon Age.
It may be in the same universe, with familiar faces all around, maybe it has some elements of fun here and there. It might even be not that bad...
But it lacks the true soul of Dragon age. It is a fade, unpalatable simulacrum of something that was once great.
Thus, I come back to the DAO theme. Certainly not for the last time, since I'm going to keep hearing this fantastic music till the day of my death.
But I'm here to put to rest all my hopes and dreams for a new Dragon age game.
Goodbye old friend.

after having the game for nearly 3 years, I finally sat down and played it for the first time this past week.
I had started with DAI back in 2018, played 2 for the first time a few months ago, and now I finally got to play origins.
Yes, I am incredibly tardy to the party.
And while I'm mad at myself for not buying these back when they originally came out, I feel like because I waited til now?? I could fully appreciate these games.
I'm replaying the whole series in order, now, and just.
It's so nice to truly grasp everything now that i've played them all.

I've played this game since it came out, every year I play through it twice... its 2020 and I have officially done every quest with every race and every class... still playing... BEST RPG EVER MADE
So many memories. The game was so good and had so much personality that I had the pleasure of playing with other classes and races just to get a different (and rewarding) gaming experience. Besides the characters having interesting and diverse profiles, the dialogues had authenticity and quality. It was easy for the player to get involved in history and with "people" like that.
Yup, I wish they make a movie out of the game.

I just finished Veilguard, i pirated it, im not paying for that zombie identifying as Dragon age. It had some good moments, but over all its just a movie on rails that you can color a bit with lines and unappealing companions. Solas memories was a high note, because it touched on Origins questions we wanted to know. And the ending was Epick but over all after finishing it i feel sad that, that is the Dragon age we got when there was this potential for greatness.
@Dexyu there is nothing good about the story or the lore. The elves did everything and Southern Thedas is completely destroyed. Also spooky Illuminati ghosts were behind everything. If they don't decanonize Veilguard this franchise is done.

It's been seven years. This theme still gives me chills.
I think every game in this franchise was excellent, but Origins seemed particularly special to me. I'm not sure if there's any particular reason other than it being our introduction to the setting, but everything about it just seemed awesome.
