Turbo IS300 Update 10 - Switching Gears!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 лис 2017
- In this update, I change from the factory 3.91 rear-end gear ratio to a 3.55 gear ratio. The swap made a huge difference and the car is much more enjoyable to drive. I only hope that it lasts for awhile at 700+ WHP!

Love your videos and attention to detail! I wana see this back at the drag strip putting down some 10s
Thanks again Robert!
Let's get some rolling and drone footage of the beast.
Love this channel so much! Gotta get my turbo IS running! 😢
Thanks man!
Geez, even your garage is perfection lol Awesome video, I need more knowledge about the trans on my IS300 and plan to swap mine as well, so that's all helpful!
Sounds like you have a fun project in the works! Thanks for watching!
I'm right there with you. ...Sometimes, all of the info, is like drinking from a fire hose. My garage could never be like that. Genius has no time for cleaning. LOL!
nice work man! we gotta get you some more subscribers! always good content
Haha, thanks man! I was actually looking at the analytics and it says that about 90% of my views come from non-subscribers. I'm just too nice to ask people to sub, ha!
Thanks for the explanation, doesn't look like weir performance offers this kit anymore though.
Cool video! I have been doing some number crunching as I try to settle on a new DD. I want something that's fun to drive yet fuel efficient so ideally it will have a 6sp and a fairly tall final drive. Keep it up man....T minus????? for next dyno session.
I hope to be back on the dyno soon! Thank you for watching!
dam dude, your buff AF, What drive axels are you using?
Must be the camera playing tricks! (thanks though) I'm just running the stock axles right now.
Great videos! Can you tell me what brand and where you got the sub frame supports ? Thanks!
Thanks! They are the Megan Racing sub frame collars and I think I just got them from eBay.
Hey man big fan of your car. I was looking into getting a IS300 and my goal is a solid 500hp how much do you think it would cost roughly?
Question, can I make 500hp out of the stock IS300 VVTI 2JZGE NAT model? Would I have to change the pistons and rods to GTE ones?
Also, question about the transmission. I heard the stock manual transmission will break after 400hp or so, what is your take on it and if so, what transmission do you recommend?
What rear end did you use to drop the gear ratio down? I too have a V160 swapped turbo is300. I hate being capped at 145ish mph is the top of the 6th gear.
It's just the factory LSD rear-end with a 3.55 ring and pinion. I got the ring and pinion from a company called Weir Performance.
Hey matey any updates on the car?
Who did the work on that new diff? Anything special with that differential other than the weir Ring and pinion? Stock torsen? Was hoping to find a good video of one being put together/rebuilt with setting backlash and stuff. Awesome content none the less
I installed the new ring and pinion myself using the parts and specifications outlined in the factory service manual. It still utilizes the factory Torsen LSD. Thanks!
@@twojay Was the ring and pinion swap pretty straightforward? Any special tools/instruments required? I am thinking about doing something similar
@@barniechong1183 If it's not something you have experience with I highly suggest paying someone that does.
Great video. I am planning the same gear ratio swap, but I am waiting for grannasracing.com to make the kit with a ford 8.8 lsd differential. Joel said he is working on it now. I am curious to see how much power you lost due to going with short final drive. I wish there was a kit for 3.26 gs400 diff swap, too much custom work for a street car tho. Great channel.
Yeah I have been following him on Instagram and I am very eager to see if he develops a kit for the IS300! I have also thought about doing the GS400 or Supra swap but it just seems like a ton of work (and money) to do the swap properly.
XtremeCoupe have you thought about the t56 swap? I am debating on going v160 or t56 swap in the is300 with a 3.55 diff swap.
I haven't put much thought into the T56 swap since I already went V160 so I don't know much about it.
He now has a 8.8 rear end kit for the is300
So where did you source 3.55's? Bout to re gear my setup after a CD009 swap.
Weir Performance
Can you tell me what brand on urethane bushings you are using? Also how do you like them? Thanks!
I purchased all of the bushings from Figs Engineering, they have lots of great products for the IS300. The bushings made a world of difference for my particular setup.
Hey man did u do the entire rebuild kit or just the ring and pinion only?
In addition to the new ring and pinion, I replaced pretty much everything else with new OEM parts (bearings, seals, clips, etc).
@@twojay thanks man was just wondering if any one got buy without the new bearings. Might as well do it since I'll be in there.
Was The v160 a drop in? other than having to cut open where the auto shifter is, (if you have to just assuming). do you have to cut anything?
What's your definition of "drop in"? I used the SRT (out of business now) billet shifter extension and did not have to cut/modify the tunnel at all. I had to shorten the factory V160 shifter linkage rod since the SRT shifter extension is shorter than the factory V160 tripod. I had to modify the factory IS300 automatic transmission crossmember to support the V160 and a different driveshaft had to be used obviously. I'm sure there was more but that's all that comes to mind.
XtremeCoupe thanks for that info. as for the vvti you stated your using stock ecu. so for the standalone, are you piggybacking?or by its self ?
The factory ECU is basically just in the car to retain the functionality of the gauges at this point. The VVTI solenoid is actually controlled by my AEM Series 2.
Where can I get a set of those blue bushings from??? And awesome video love the car I did an aristo swap to mine still on stock twins
Thanks! The differential bushings are from FIGS Engineering. They have a lot of great products for the IS300 so be sure to check them out.
Where did he buy the kit from?
I purchased the ring and pinion from Weir Performance if that's what you're talking about?
what company did you get the gear set from?
Weir Performance
thanks man, By the way love your videos, and your car. Cant wait to get my own is300
Where did u get your spacer
Well the rear driveshaft adapter flange
