You have added to my arsenal! I was a big fan of Mouse Gestures when I discovered them. NOW, I've added the shortcut bar to my mouse gestures! I don't even have to touch the keyboard!
I'm getting tired of almost 1 week of designing our machine for thesis so I'm looking for shortcuts. I wish I found out about this shortcut key sooner. My life would've been easier. Thank youu!!!💜
S is a superpower shortcut key for all segments in the SOLIDWORKS tool. Thank you so much for your knowledge and effort! I learned a lot from this tutorial!
For my money, one of the best features to put on your sketch-mode S-key is an extruded boss (or extruded cut) command, as you had it here. Skip the middle man and go straight to the feature you're most likely to use it for.
I've been using the S-key for years. I have absolutely no toolbars cluttering up my screen, and have maximized my work area. I've got all my commonly used commands in my S-key. My coworkers don't know what to do if they sit down at my computer and need to do something. Of course, in the same vein, It takes me a bit to find commands in the standard toolbars if I'm on someone else's computer also.
I was told about mouse gestures before I knew about the s key so I have that set up, but it seems to have a bit of a lag sometimes. I definitely need to force myself to use the s key to make myself faster. muscle memory.
Thanks Toby, I start using The S KEY ;) and I saw you have many templates can you share some templates too? or maybe you have done before?! if yes I'll be glad to know
I noticed when you exited sketch mode to switch to feature mode, your sketch profile stayed highlighted. When I do the same, my sketch turns gray and the only way to get feature mode to work is to click the sketch in the feature tree or the sketch profile on the plane. If I don't pick the sketch profile first, feature mode short cut does come up, and when I pick an extrude feature, it prompts me to pick a plane to draw a sketch on or pick an existing sketch. How do I get my sketch to stay highlighted when exiting sketch? Thanks. I'm running SW Premium 2020 SP5.0 Edit: adding the features to the sketch shortcut does work.
Hi texfire! For me, when I exit a newly created sketch, so long as I don't click in the background, the sketch remains highlighted. Are you possibly clicking in the background after exiting the sketch? Usually this isn't an issue with the customized Skey menu, because I jump right from sketch into extrude, without exiting the sketch.
@@TooTallToby Thanks. It seems to only work if it is a brand new created sketch and you don't exit before feature. In other words, you can't exit the sketch and go back and edit it. However, this is achieved by adding the features buttons to the sketch shortcut menu as you've shown. Thanks again.
@@texfire75 That's weird I tried it in SW 2015 and SW 2020. Here's my recording in 2020 and it seems like it works (the sketch remains highlighted after EXIT SKETCH command) - imgur.com/sB6LhJD Maybe this is an "enhancement" in the newer versions.. Either way - glad it's working with the S-key. as another commenter said - just "cut out the middle man" and go strait to the extrude!
Hey Toby!! Did you make it to 'World' this year? I didn't see your usual session, but it looks like they used a picture of you on the main page of the event. Also, if you're a little short on cash, and only have the 2 button Spacemouse, you can map the S key to one of them and it's almost as useful as the more expensive versions of the Spacemouses (Spacemice?😁).
Lol - thanks Scott - No I didn't make it to the world conference this year. I'm hosting a livestream tomorrow morning (Feb 28th) which is, essentially, what I would have shown, had I been able to go. Hopefully this will help the community! Thanks for the tip (and the chuckle) :-) And thanks for thinking about me too - wish I could have been there!

S key is a real time saver and it even gets better if you put it on mouse gesture donut.
Great Idea Frank and I agree - using both S key and Mouse Gestures takes it to a whole new level!

Nice! Both mouse gestures and S-key are great time savers, I just like the idea of just having "one key to rule them all" :-)
