  • Looking to do some custom work on your 2015+ Subaru WRX or STI headlights?
    This quick video will show you how I opened and resealed my headlights successfully numerous times. All you need is a heatgun and a screwdriver.
    Once open, you can customize as you wish and then re-seal!
    This is the re-sealer I use (Amazon): goo.gl/a5zRyh
    Heat gun is from Home Depot, similar here: goo.gl/ANq9M4
    If you have any questions on the process, comment below or DM me on instagram @kryptonnyc (follow me!)
    Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for showing the part where you plugged up the hole for the c light. I would not have thought of it and have not seen any of the other 'diy' videos even mention that 👌

      Bigblack Cockus same problem I had when I was looking for vids. That’s why i made a point of showing how to seal

    I had screw issues (heads were special so they couldn't be removed) & drilled holes in the screw head & used an 'Easy-out'. Worked great. Then I got new, standard screws to replace them.

    Nice job welcome to the modified headlight club! You'll sleep at night being a little fearful of condensation for the next 6 months, hahaha!!! ;)

    So pissed..Bought the complete circiut demon headlights and one is filled with vapor...They want me to send it back but that just makes more work for me having to put my OEM assembly in while i wait...Not what i expected for $1100

    I have used this sealant (rubber) first heavy rain, and headlight was foggy. Next step is take the hammer and smash them both, buy new lights. Problem with that sealant is that Sun can melt it.

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  5 років тому

      phantom 3 bihac did you previously have moisture in the headlight? I haven’t ran into issues with this sealant

    • @XiiLLy
      @XiiLLy 5 років тому

      @@chrisdz yes, moisture was the reason for opening it.

    Nice video thanks. Did you need two rolls of the butyl sealer or just one?

    I know it's been a while but I have a question. What did kind of paint did you use to blackout the inside of the headlight? Cause I was looking to do that myself

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  2 роки тому +1

      I used a high temp paint.. the sun can shine thru the lens of the low beam bulb and cause it to bubble slightly, especially if you don’t scuff up the mirror finish enough.. so a high temp helps combat that

      I used EZ OFF oven cleaner and it removes the chrome while leaving a glossy black finish on the plastic

    Hey great video, when I opened my headlights it looked (and felt when i was opening them) like my existing sealant was super dry, and hard to remove. There is an insane amount of reside still in there that is just stuck really bad. I don’t have enough room to fit the new sealant in and I tried making a thin roll of the new sealant but it still doesn’t close. it’s too thick with the existing stuff. should I just use what’s in there? not sure what to do.

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  4 роки тому

      i would get as much old sealant out as possible and put as much new sealant in that you can.. you can also use some clamps in areas of the lens that wont get messed up, to help pull it closed.. and get the screws started.. then you can eventually start tightening the screws down to pull it closed more

    • @jackkiefer569
      @jackkiefer569 4 роки тому

      chris dz yeah i ended up getting a decent amount in but wondering if it would be worth lining the cracks outside with some sort of weatherproof rtf. not trying to take any risks haha

    How long did you use your heat gun when you resealed your headlights?

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  4 роки тому +1

      terry le I don’t have a time.. just do it long enough to heat the sealant up.. and make sure to not melt the plastic on the headlight housing

  • @Drazx3
    @Drazx3 4 роки тому

    I'm going to have to do this, the previous owner didn't seal one of my headlights properly. It's sticking out, and there's a gap sticking out causing it to fog up.

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  4 роки тому

      Just try to get all the moisture out when you have it open, or it will fog up again

  • @Veron161

    How powerfull is you heatgun? How many W?

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  6 років тому

      i dont know off hand, but its just a standard wagner heat gun bought off amazon.. you could also throw the headlights in the oven on low heat for like 15 min to soften the glue

    • @Veron161
      @Veron161 6 років тому

      That was my primary plan, but my oven is too small for headlights. So I'm gonna build a heatbox and use my heatgun which is 1400W (I think a bit too strong to use directly)

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  6 років тому

      Veron161 as long as you keep the heat gun moving. You’ll be fine. Don’t keep in 1 spot for too long, or you’ll melt the plastic

    I know this video is old but when you did the Clight did you have any LED headlight warnings? I sent my limited headlights out to circuit demon and they did amber delete Clight and the changed out the projector lens. All my lights work perfectly but I am getting a warning on the dash

    • @chrisdz
      @chrisdz  2 роки тому +1

      no, i never got any warning lights. might be something simple like a resistor or something like that. maybe the car thinks a bulb is blown so you're getting a warning
