Very cool that you post a 1click dl links for the sheet´s without any consideration. I think this channel will grow very quickly. Maybe we´ll see you on twitch?
I saw that Fuse shirt in your techno rumble vid and i knew i had another belgian on hands xD i lived in brussels for 8 years but recently moved to ghent , really miss the grit :( ... Love the channel ! If u ever need personal cello samples or collab im your man ;)
I'm a musician, amateur producer and 'educational scientist' (Basically I learned a whole lot about designing educational/training content and how people learn). You're my new fucking idol man you are amazing.
I am in paradise with your diagrams. They show what all guys don't show. The other youtubers make weard video and we never see properly what they do. And never catch it. And FINALLY you mate!!!! You did it and teach real. you have a really more solid approach. Gonna check your 1on1 coaching. cheers!
I tried to recreate 1990s hardtrance reverb-sub-kick, and got stuck on a 'basic" level, lol. I didn't even know that this thing is called "techno-rumble" Until the Skies have sent me this video )) Now I'm on "intermediate" level, which for the sound of 1990s means "like a boss" )) Thanks a lot, very useful!
And just like that, you find exactly what you've been looking for the last year, in a video youtube recommended you at 8am after a nights work... Thx Fuseguy!
Finally! A very talented person showing us amateurs how to create the perfect (and that final version IS perfect) rumble for techno bods. Like him, I've watched pretty much every single YT video on this subject and this is far and away the only one I needed. Seriously great work my friend, I am incredibly thankful. this whole video is like watching a Michelin starred chef explain how to create layers of flavour. Love it.
Thanks for sharing all your hard work. I really do appreciate it. I woke up two years ago paralysed from the chest down and i have been in hospital for those two years. Watching your posts has been fantastic for my head. I have to wait now to get back into the studio once its been adapted for me. Thank you once again and i hope 2022 brings you good fortune.
What I love about this turorial is, that it is structured so well that I can easily follow along even without having looked at ableton once. Using FL and it was really realty helpful. Thank you.
You have no idea how much this tutorial has helped me! I always felt like my productions was missing something. So I made a basic rumble and it made it sound so much fuller! Thank you.
I just wanted to say, thank you so much for your videos. They are clear, straight to the point and carry tons of useful information. It's hard to find production tutorials for intermediate and advanced producers who want to learn new skills and refresh their knowledge. Keep them coming!
Dear Oscar, I mean Ph.D. Oscar, Your channel is be far one of the best classes for understanding the deeper parts of techno music, this for the theory part as well as practica by sharing your knowledge on how to convert into a DAW. I learned a lot the last past days and it really helped me to put all the loose samples en vunzige deuntjes into a smooth, coherent set. Ik ben u ontzettend dankbaar om uw kennis met ons te delen. You're my technoguru. UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ
Wow this really is the most accurate YT channel for techno production. Every video ist spot on! I would really appreciate a video on hypnotic/groovy techno (mostly without rumble) like: Oscar Mulero, Eric Fetcher, Jeroen Search... Thank you and keep up the good work! :)
It's amazing how you go above and beyond explaining these things so the people get the tools and learn how to use them instead of presenting it as "just copy what i do and you'll get the sound"
Wow just wow, you are an amazing teacher hands down the best one Ive seen ever since I got interested in Techno. You're very precise and your work is very detailed. I appreciate people like you, the ones who are willing to share their knowledge for the love of what they do and for the greater good. Never stop inspiring ❤
I followed this tutorial and... I am hooked. In the end you have a whole sound sculpture 🤯. I need to get my hands on your industrial techno course, Oscar. This downtempo bass player feels like doing something quicker :). God, I miss the time I lived in Berlin. You are a great teacher!
That 2nd Mastery example at around 15:00 fits PERFECTLY with the hats and synth. It just instantly hit me with inspiration :) Fantastic channel, keep up the great work!
I haven't produced Techno or House in years and now that I'm curious about it again, this channel is exactly what I need and is not only extremely helpful but also very inspiring! Well done, new sub here.
I have been a synth enthusiast for 4 years, really went for a deep dive. Loved the sound, really love techno. But drums where never my thing. Until I found this channel, it’s a life changer
This tutorial is excellent - I've been watching several tuts on how to make a Techno rumble, and this is the one. I really like the speed of the instructions, skipping all the basic stuff and showing the "bigger picture". Thank you for that chart too 😉
As someone who used to work on electronic music way back in 2000 as a highschool student, with zero music theory, or background in music - its amazing seeing how you're supposed to actually engineer these sounds. I used to kinda "fake" what I heard and tried to recreate it in Reason and such. Usually layering multiple drum kicks, and delay and reverb.
As a primary school teacher, I have to say that the pedagogy here is absolutely outstanding. Have learnt loads in 2 night from 2 videos. Thank you so much, Oscar. You are a superb teacher.
I am a newbie in production, I have seen many tutorials about music production but none of them have helped me as you did, thank you so much, +1 subscriber
This is a very good tutorial. I don't produce techno but the buss processing and routing you went over also applies to all genres. Great quality tutorials, keep it up!
Wow, this is so easy to follow along with. Within a few minutes I had a basic/intermediate rumble going on. Much easier than I thought and well explained!
I don't want to be a negative nancy here because this is a great tutorial, I just wanted to comment on the "groove" advice. The very definition of groove is having an anchor and then having elements which are "running away" from the anchor, ie playing off the grid. If you make sure that everything pulsates together with the kick you will end up having no groove. For example: if you are sidechaining for techincal reasons (as you would with the sub part of the rumble) then having it pulsate with the kick is a great idea as it creates space in the crowded low-frequency part. If you are sidechaining to achieve some groovy pumping in the mids or highs - try sidechaining the signal with a ghost percussion (kick or whatever) which is 5-30 miliseconds late or early compared to the original kick. This offset is what (amongst other things) creates groove. It gives the mind and the body more than one dimension-grid of the rhythm to latch-on to and creates interesting tension between elements. Anyway, thank you for doing these Oscar! Great job and keep them coming!
Hey Nancy 😋 I appreciate your comment, you're totally right. It's sometimes a bit hard to define groove in 1 way, because as you say there is the "anchor groove" and then syncopated grooves running against it creating tension and interest. I guess it's not an indepth enough treatment of that idea for sure - I just want people to start thinking of the rumble as something that has a coherent groove against which other elements can be juxtaposed.
this is such an overlooked sound and an overwhelming sound, the amount of depth homie just created with these kicks, claps, and toms just sent me to a 4th heaven. 🤯😵💫🫨
This is an amazing tutorial that taught me first the concept of "rumble", a sound I liked but didn't know the name of. Now I'm practicing doing it. Thank you :)
Binged all of the Underdog videos so when my Push2 arrived yesterday I knew exactly what to load up. Stoked with the result from following this tutorial. The world needs more people like you Oscar. F**king legend man. So close to 100k!!
Wow, this was awesome 👌 I don't usually go for this sound but have to admit this was really inspiring and had me hooked till the end, loved the switching between different master level versions! This channel is a rare gem, thank you.
I have no idea about the craft of making music, nor had I had any interest in it. I like techno. I have heard someone complain about how a club's new sound system sounds for tracks that have "Kick-Rumbles". I googled. I came here. And I could watch for hours - the presentation is so informative and clear-cut!
Very cool techniques. I'm trying to apply to an all hardware setup. Different challenges but I think your approach is helpful. Thanks. Also love the section about tonal balance! My nemesis.
I’ve been trying something similar with all hardware (in fact, almost all analogue): the trick is that the reverb tail from percussion is pretty much just filtered noise, especially if you’ve sidechained out all of the early reflections. So, some white noise through a band pass filter can give you a pretty good rumble without even needing reverb, and you can shape it in all sorts of creative ways.
Dude this is just class mate. Class. You definitely nailed this video. Very clear explanations with a great voice and the sounds are spot on. Deserves more attention. No brainer like and sub.
It's kind of funny you just posted this now. I was exhausting myself through UA-cam videos to find rumble techniques and was going to message you asking for insight or if you had plans to make a video. I wish it were easier for NA producers to get on the classes you offer. Appreciate everything you do and always look forward to your videos. :)
Dude. You put up that music at 15:02 and my mind instantly travels back to all those nights I've had and hope to have again once this stuff is behind us. Thank you, the clarity vs the rumble is really an inspiring juxtaposition, it's so roomy despite having so much going on at the lower levels because that entire mid-level is seemingly kept clear for everything to breathe. Dang. Also, just in general love how adding the texture chain of the perc adds this feeling of forward momentum, a faster tempo that seems to be increasing and drives you forward, while the atmo chain creates this sense of ease and prevents the track from feeling too much like an ever-increasing rush. It's just so smart and balanced and these constant juxtapositions and the tensions you can create by temporarily leaving part of the equation out and then slowly or abruptly bringing it back together is just everything I love about techno. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your experience, my only problem is that I have to convert all your awesome tutorials to Logic Pro, but your explanation is so clear and well structured that I always succeed, really good thanks!
The more I learn about production, the more amazed I am how dirt basic a lot of hardstyle is lol. This tutorial helped me identify what I love about my favorite artists! Also, wow wow I've gone through so many tutorials for all kinds of software and fields, and you have one of the best presentation styles I've seen!!!
Hardstyle has very little to do with rumble aside from gated kicks which are not quite the same. At a production level, Hardstyle is one of the most difficult genres.
Blessed to have come across this. Been trying to create fusion trap/edm and it's been really challenging. A lot of hybrid genre, experimental stuff is sonically, not quite there yet- and work like yours is gonna help us super young artists, try some crazy new stuff and push the barriers of music. Thanks for this, definitely subbed.
Now I am really curious how techniques like this translate to music outside of Techno. Textures created from obliterating a duplicate channel that maybe isn't using a kick as source material or not using a 4x4 beat. Makes me really want to learn more about how the music is made from artists like Roly Porter and Emptyset.
I'm not even this much into techno, but the information density in this is HUGE! There is so much to take away here! Also, your presentation style is just brilliant, including the diagrams! Thanks a ton for sharing!
Just recently discovered your channel, I really appreciate your straight to the point approach. Would love to see a turorial/ guide on how to achieve tonal balance. just as you mentioned i've experienced very often that my music much bass heavier then the reference tracks i use, while at the same time, when hearing it on a louder system it complete lacks beef
The answer to this is partially getting a good monitoring system (subwoofer & sonarworks), partially using reference tracks (see the video on RMS and Peak volume), and then focusing on getting the mids to sound banging without relying on the sub frequencies.
I never learned so much about sound design for techno. I am using Ableton Live for mixing and sound processing in live performances and this tuorial just improved my sound by a million times. Thank you! So crazy how a good sounding rumble can instantly improve the overall mix and sound of a track.
For parallel processing: I like to use Ableton's Audio Effect Rack, duplicate the layer. Keep one layer for the dry sound, one layer for wet only sounds. Achieves the same effect as having your "Kick" and "Rumble" one on single track (if that fits your workflow).
I watched this video of yours already maybe 5 - 6 times, because it inspires a lot. What I changed over the course of time is I replaced the ducker with an automation of the rumble´s volume. This feels like even more control to both the rumlbe and the kick and also gives me the chance to insert "errors" once in awhile, so it takes longer for the two to start sounding dull.
You are so well structured and succinct in your presentations. These are the most professional deconstructions of Techno I have found on the internet. Bravo.
I wasn't hearing any rumble on my phone, for a moment I was worried about my hearing. 🙉 Then I put in my headphones 🎧 because I forgot I was listening to this on my crappy phone speaker 😂

Very cool techniques. I'm trying to apply to an all hardware setup. Different challenges but I think your approach is helpful. Thanks. Also love the section about tonal balance! My nemesis.
How are you trying to apply it to a hardware set up? Routing individual outs?

I’ve been trying something similar with all hardware (in fact, almost all analogue): the trick is that the reverb tail from percussion is pretty much just filtered noise, especially if you’ve sidechained out all of the early reflections. I never learned so much about sound design for techno. I am using Ableton Live for mixing and sound processing in live performances and this tuorial just improved my sound by a million times. Thank you! So crazy how a good sounding rumble can instantly improve the overall mix and sound of a track.
Amazing stuff, Thank you for a very Informative Tutorial.
Please do a Tutorial on Techno Pads, Thanks.
For parallel processing: I like to use Ableton's Audio Effect Rack, duplicate the layer. Keep one layer for the dry sound, one layer for wet only sounds. Achieves the same effect as having your "Kick" and "Rumble" one on single track (if that fits your workflow).
love your diagrams
🙏
I watched this video of yours already maybe 5 - 6 times, because it inspires a lot. What I changed over the course of time is I replaced the ducker with an automation of the rumble´s volume. This feels like even more control to both the rumlbe and the kick and also gives me the chance to insert "errors" once in awhile, so it takes longer for the two to start sounding dull.
God damn it, now you're about to have me planning out a whole palette case just to be able to do this in modular!
Man, seriously one of the best breakdowns on how to improve your kicks that I have ever seen! Thank you sir!
Beat channel ever so professional
You are so well structured and succinct in your presentations. These are the most professional deconstructions of Techno I have found on the internet. Bravo.

I wasn't hearing any rumble on my phone, for a moment I was worried about my hearing. 🙉 Then I put in my headphones 🎧 because I forgot I was listening to this on my crappy phone speaker 😂
