Some really great tones out of this thing. I know it was popular 10 years ago, but I think it's a must have pedal. I love my TS and BD, but I bust this out on country night for light gain
Just following up, have been using attenuator, and playing the amp in break up or on the edge is all I need. I still have a bunch of pedals but I've only been using modulation pedals lately. Best thing I ever got was a Weber attenuator...
I have the Mooer Hustle Drive, which is supposed to be based on the OCD circuit, and I love it! I usually have it set as low to medium drive in the LP mode, but it’s really versatile all around. It would even work well as a good clean boost if one were so inclined.
Got 3 mooer pedals yesterday and one of them was the hustle drive. I was surprised to say the least , great pedal.
I have one on my board. I use it as my cranked plexi in a box sound for hard rock songs. It's always done what I need it to do.
I saw it on a local cover band guitar player's rig with a fender blues jr and it blew my mind. My guy played everything from foo fighters to system of a down with the OCD as its only OD. So flexible and really great tone. Bit the bullet and got one as soon as I could and realized thag is shines the most when run at 18v. I can see how some one would pass on it, but trust me 18v is where its at.
still my number 1 overdrive!
i use a cleanish bd2 in front of it and a ryra klon after (and a bad bob sometime) into a tweed deluxe. with that setup i can cover alot
A lot of what? Certainly not genres lol
I’ve tried them a few times over the years and they always just sounded muddy to me. As usual, you managed to make it sound great. Maybe it’s time to give an OCD another go, though for this kind of drive character I’m more prone to a Boss OD-3. You should do a vid on the OD-3 if you haven’t already, it’s great.
The OD3 is on my list! I got to borrow an original OD1 last Spring and I did the SD1 -- Im not really an SD1 fan though to be honest. But I'd love to try an OD3.
@@JackFossett they are completely different circuit designs. While the OD-1 and the SD-1 have a lot of circuit similarities, the OD-3 is an *entirely* different circuit design based around multiple cascading gain stages instead of the more traditional opamp based soft clipping like your TS or SD-1s have. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t let your distaste for the SD-1 keep you from trying an OD-3, they may look kind of the same but they’re really completely different pedals.
I bought an OCD two months ago. But i have been noticing that it sounds a little dark even when I have the Tone knob all the way up.
I had a cheap Chinese knockoff pedal based off the OCD, I forget what it was, but it sounded really pretty good. If the real thing sounded half as good as the cheap thing then the OCD is worth every penny.
I got two ocd on two seperate pedalboards it's my favorite drive for low gain -medium gain stuff. I use a gibson sg for one set up and an American strat for another set up :)
Great demo as always. I just ordered one of the last of their NOS batch of the 1.4 version, the end of an era.
Mike Fuller went on a rant complaining about the George Floyd rioting! He was boycotted because of that. His pedals never lost the favourability because of performance! I have one and think it is the cat's meow!
I have the v1.7 and will never sell it. Love it. ❤
Still have it with a ts9 for leads. I really like this combo but always with very light gain on both.
Oh yeah I hear that - stacking pedals needs little gain.
I love this pedal. I live in NYC (no shortage of choices & options) and have tried many. This pedal is actually very versatile and amp-like. I can get most any sound that-I want from it. Feels great to the touch. I have the v1.7 - I also use a Barber Gain Changer SR & Thorpy Muff. I agree with the Tone @ 10 o'clock.
Ya know "amp-like" is a term thats generally overused in the overdrive pedal world, but you're right on with this one.
@@JackFossett Agree 100%. I also Love my Barber Gain Changer. Both pedals have exceptional Individual-string definition ( which is what makes them irreplaceable for me ).
great pedal...but , man that Tele is wicked...thanks for the vids !!!
God bless Mike Fuller and his fight against the woke world.💪
I also use mine as light gain... but mostly I use it as a boost or occasionally in combination with my J. Rocket Blue Note
I also have a version 1.4
Which do you prefer between your 50’s & 60’s American Original Teles?
I think the gist of the OCD, whatever version, is that you cannot go wrong
Your demos and Andy's demos from Prog Guitar Shop and Reverb are the best. So may demos out there that you don't get a good sense of what pedal's sound like and it's more about watching the guitarist perform a cheesy shred routine that sounds more like a practice exercise vs a demo or something more musical.
Great pedal. I've used one for years. One thing worth noting is that the level of drive tapers, substantially, as you lower the volume on the guitar. This means you can lower the volume and get a fairly clean tone, then boost it from your guitar for more drive.
Thank you Jack. I picked up an OCD years ago and did not take to it. Now with different guitars and amp, I tried it again and have discovered it’s versatility - sounds great! Your video confirmed and further informed how to use this pedal. Thanks!
i picked up ocd at birth
Note that while core tone is there, the revisions are pretty different. Even 2.0 has at least 2 different versions (so called 2.01). I have 1.4, 1.7, 2.0 (2019), 2.01? (2022), they all sound different. Which is interesting, but IMHO it is a wrong step from the company point of view as one might expect to have consistency when buying supposedly the same product. Changes in sound should be explicitly stated.
You know.....of all the pedals I've owned, i've never owned an OCD. Sounds good though!
Really? For a while there it was like if you wanted to look like a serious player, you had an OCD. Circa 2010. Funny because now it seems like everyone is just totally over them. So last decade.
@@JackFossett I've had a jrocket .45 caliber overdrive ( jtm 45 tone for days) that is overdrive perfection for me. No need to look any further. I have a tube screamer I like to use as a boost with the 45 caliber when I need lots of sustain...but yeah. I'm a creature of habit on overdrive.
@@singletonepickups I haven’t played the J Rocket but i definitely appreciate a great Marshall in a box drive - have you ever tried out LPD Pedals? He makes some excellent pedals in that style various ways. I also love the TS though, I have kind of a fondness for the ocd but I really don’t use it much.
I have three different OCD's. Just looking for other players opinions so I stumbled upon your channel. You're such a great player Brother. For real.
Blaze Landing
Fantastic video ! I have OCD V2. I have mine set the way you have yours but on the high peak setting.
Not sure which model I have, but I have one of the first (ordered before they came out, serial # below 500). This has been and always will be, my cornerstone pedal. I keep it on ALWAYS. I play blues and blues-based rock and this pedal gives my tone BALLZ! Gibsons, Fenders, acoustic BluesKing….doesn’t matter. I bought one for my son and his didn’t sound as great as mine so he sold it.
Very dynamic.
Rippin Spring
Fulltone pedals are great
I have the OCD-Ge and my settings are about where you run yours. I only play Strats, so I keep the toggle setting usually at LP. I found it stacks nicely with a Mojo Hand FX DMBL and then I round the tone out with a Wampler Belle. The Wampler is always on, plus the OCD or the DMBL give me varying levels of gain/distortion, and both of them together sound great, like Whipping Post Allman Brothers sound. If I can’t get what I’m looking for with those three, a Metal Zone before the Belle with either the OCD or DMBL gives great hair metal sounds.
Sounds like a great setup! I also love the Belle. I haven’t played the Mojo Hand DMBl but I really dig their other pedals
Mine is v.1.2 bought when it was released until now, I didn't try the other versions
I use my ver. 1.2 for bridge pickup in the LP mode. Since the OCD is very thick sounding I prefer a bluesbreaker clone for neck pup's.
Anything that comes from Fulltone is incredible
What a great demo / Excelente, de los mejores que he visto.
Loved the ocd have owned many of them, but I just wish there weren’t so many drastic changes from version to version, one OCD sounds pretty good, next version had so much bass it became a fuzzy mess, pretty good for its time as a tubescreamer alternative but nowadays there are certainly more consistent streamlined options that do the Tubescreamer alternative
A classic pedal if ever there was one. Good video. Thank you. Cheers
Is OCD a necessity?
I made the mistake once of contacting Mr. Mike Fuller with a completely polite and respectful inquiry about one of his pedals, which I had just purchased.
He replied extremely arrogantly and dismissively, with a disturbing air of superiority and a tone of utter derision.
I decided right there and then to sell all of my Fulltone pedals. Later, I heard from some of my favorite music retailers that they too had experienced similar treatment from him.
By the way, Mooer's Hustle Drive is just as good as the OCD, in my opinion. Actually, I personally like it better, though my judgment, understandably, may be biased.
you're most likely full of shit. you are just mad he spoke his mind about the BLM terrorists looting and burning down businesses.
Interesting. The parts played on the Les Paul sounded very nice.
RIP to getting one of these for under $300.
That is a super sweet les paul
From Leo: Been a tube screamer fan since the 80's. I borrowed a Fulltone OCD for a while, and found it easy to get the warm, jazzy blues tones I like through a Tube Fender. Good pedal
I still prefer tube screamers though 😂
Man, I’m only a minute into the video but I had to pause to tell you how effortless your playing looks!
Thank you kindly! I assure you though, I'm hanging on for dear life with every note.
my overdrive section (when the amp's volume knob isn't an option) has been an OCD and mxr 78 badass through a modded 1970s silverface at church for years now, tried to retire them, tried more expensive things, and I CANNOT find anything that responds and sounds as well as those pedals do, I finally accepted the fact that on my first pedal shopping spree I found the best overdrives for super cheap by accident
Thats so funny, I actually used to have a 78 MXR too! Those are really good pedals. Well, MXR in general makes good stuff, has for a long time.
No way, those are the same two ODs I’ve run on my rig for years through various Fender clean amps. Gives me a great spectrum from Plexi to JCM 800 and the OCD is my always on pedal with gain controlled through volume knobs. Generally run volume and gain around noon on low pass and always have tone rolled back like Jacks shows. I’ve read a lot of dismissive reviews on the 78 Badass but similarly if you keep tome dialed back you can really get some nice clipped OD/distortion.
Great video Jack. I was surprised by how nice it sounded with less gain. seems like I underestimated the flexability of the OCD.
Totally! That’s the only way I use it - has a saturated clean boost like few others
Sounds great here! I've owned one for many years. Never bonded with it myself. Probably the brightness you mention.
Ya know it’s not my first choice. But like I said, it’s kind of faithful and reliable. It’s like a friend you’re not as close with as you used to be but you can still get together anytime and you’re there when they need you or you need them.
@@JackFossett I think I'd probably just come across pedals I much preferred. Perhaps if I'd made friends with it sooner, I'd share the fondness.
Goodbye Fulltone. Prices are soaring already.
Of course they are.
@@JackFossett are you a fan of their stuff? I picked up some Keeley pedals off of your reviews (which I'm a big fan of your reviews). I had an OCD Germanium once and sold it.
@@strings83 I am, I’ve always liked Fulltone pedals. Their fuzzes in particular are great
@@JackFossett is Fulltone stuff destined to follow Klon/ King of Tone lore? I will be curious what becomes of the going price trend, though Klons obviously were far, far more rare.
It’s a distortion pedal if you want it to be. That’s why I like it.
This is a great pedal. I got V3 of the OCD. I gigged with it and it was my main over driven sound. I still have it and honestly i am never letting it go.
I have one and use it through a 73 silver face Princeton reverb and Celestion Gold 40 watt speaker and like you said OCD very versatile pedal, I also have my set at low peak and gain at around 7 o’clock and volume at around 10 or 11 pending how much volume I have the amp
With your preferred 'triangle' setting using the Telecaster it sounds great. Thanks for the video.
I’ve a OCD V2 for a couple of years now … and i’m pretty happy with it.. I use it for big distortion with a Keeley Katana (pink version) as a clean boost and a J Archer rocket for more bluesy sounds… But yeah… I needed a little time to understand the ocd wich is less brighter than my others pedals but a good one it is :)
I have the OCD V1.4; prefer it over other OCDs that I previously owned (V1.7 and V2.0). Initially chose HP mode, but now mostly use LP mode. Really like the OCD, tried a few other OD pedals prior to that (Boss OD-3, OD-1X, EHX Glove, EHX Soul Food). Never tried a Tube Screamer, maybe I should because some say it sounds somewhat like the LP mode of an OCD.
Great vid!
I'm in between the OCD and the Boss Blues Driver (since its also cheaper). Any thoughts?
Why not both? :-D
@@JackFossett I would like but I have other responsibilities 🫤 My wife loves to say that 🤭🤔😃
It's a hard decision between the two and they'r surprisingly similar. I think the OCD is probably more versatile, yet the Blues Driver tends to play better with different amps and guitars. So more available tones with the OCD, but better pairing with amps and guitars from the BD-2.
Thanks Jack. My wife will definitely like the more affordable option 😅 I’m more tempted for the Boss, and since you’ve mentioned that it fits better with different amps than the OCD I’ll stick with that (since I have a Boss Katana 50w and an old Fender Frontman 100w). Cheers!
I used to own one. Sold it off, then bought a clone of the 1.3. It's a good clone of the pedal, does the OCD thing. I run like your friend, always on HP, gain up!
The original blue Full-Drive is even better imo
The original is one I've never played --
@@JackFossett I bought one in the mid 90s on a whim and it was like nothing I’d ever heard. I had to keep it under lock and key because every time I came to the practice space it was plugged into someone else’s amp 😂
You referring to the model with the comp cut option?
For a while, I was buying a Fulltone pedal with every paycheck! Two per month until I couldn't spend the money anymore. I did this to counter the BS against Mike Fuller.
Yeah man, for sure. You sure did slugger.
@@bongusdongus2137 Damn skippy!
And he deserves it, the dude is a prick
@@Danfunnyman1234 Maybe. He also gave people jobs and was a hard worker who did a lot of good for the guitar community. Vote with your dollars and go on.
@@bongusdongus2137 ha!
Why is it that all these demos are lead licks ? What about us rhythm players ? Very few of the vids focus on us.
so sick of seeing pedal reviews that just showcase dad guitar rock, bro im tryna hear some fucking powerviolence on these bad boys, no ones blues-ing it out anymore for fucks sake.
Fulltone is a no go for me. Dude ran his mouth so it's dueces.
He was right, though. Everything he said was true. Regular, hard working people were suffering because those who are supposed to serve and protect, didn't do either. Why don't you complain about the criminal rioters breaking and burning down everything they could under the guise of "protest".
what did he say that was wrong? BTW, BLM proved themselves to be domestic terrorists.
so what.....free speech ass
@@newgunguy4176 police have never been about serving and protecting. Actually yes, serving and protecting capital. Not people.
He commented thar people were taking advantage of an innocent man being murdered to loot stores and destroy local economies. What did he say that was wrong?
That is a fuzzy ass overdrive 😭😭😭😭
