We used to make jokes like "I loved the Raimi trilogy, but it was a weird directorial decision to include that scene where Uncle Ben goes on a five minute tangent about how beneficial the slave trade was." and the point of the joke was how out-of-left-field that would be.
Now we're saying "I love the new Spider-Man game, but it was a weird directorial decision to include a mission where you play as a deaf black woman and the gameplay consists of spraying activist graffiti on walls." and it's not a joke, it's serious.

I loved the game but I can’t even lie . That mission was the worst mission I’ve played in all 3 games. I was composing how long the segment was. It was way too long and that’s why the end of the game felt rushed thanks to missions dedicated to the wrong characters

You know who isn’t popular right now? Fucking Peter as far as the books go. Peters been written terribly for 4 years, vs Miles who keeps getting competent writers that let him grow and change unlike Peter. That’s why insomniac Peter is good, actually struggles and changes in positive ways, your take is either insane or bait.

If you look up his actual creative origins it's truly hilarious. He was inspired by Obama because he was mixed, and was intended as a literal SJW who would tackle more socially focused issues, yes including 'exploring his sexuality'.

The fact infamous and prototype are still being praised makes me happy. Those were the two best games, and infamous had some of the best real world physics ever. Like being able to shoot electricity into metal objects, and being able to reabsorb that electricity back into you storing more power than before.
Damn shame that both series got cancelled immediately after they started having non-whites as protagonists.

In both cases the games were poorly written garbage but anybody who criticized the story was shut down with accusations of racism, but they could not stop us from voting with our wallets, I'm glad these franchises died or otherwise they would have been ruined further.
When I was in school, anything nerd-culture related wasn’t popular at all. Anything from super heroes to anime would make you a target for teasing. I was really taken aback when all this became pop culture, and everyone who originally hated those things became the normies today.

As far as I'm concerned. Normies never actually got out of their shell. Everything they care about is still socially related. Wokeness is just another facet of this... Maybe a little hypocritical for me to say in a comment for this particular video, though, given that I'm just a casual fan of comic book superheroes myself (mostly just saw the phase 1 MCU, as well as some of the anime series, and I did watch a bit of that mid-'90s Spider-Man cartoon and BatmanTAS as a kid). Still, I've always been a gamer, and I know what it's like watching this hobby get destroyed from the inside with warped political pandering, even going back to before GamerGate.

I noticed they made it so they both jump the same height but before miles only jumped about half as far. Probbaly so you don’t feel disadvantaged playing miles but they should have focused on Peter for 85% instead of 60 so the story had more weight

Hulk Ultimate Destruction sounds a lot like Destroy All Humans. You feel overpowered until the military bends you over.

The OG Punisher game is so underrated. We need more games that let you shove Bad guys in ovens and alot more ovens.
I bought that shit first day when it came out and the fact that they had Thomas Jane reprise his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher was great too. It's really the only sequel to his movie we got as Frank does mention "The Saints" in one of his monologues in the game. It's a "loose" sequel so to speak.
One of my favorite PS2 games ever released. Interrogation was so brutal it really drove home how far Frank is willing to go.
Gonna need some serious advancements in oven technology to make that happen. We just cant do it with the current technology.

The Punisher Did Nothing Wrong
Its because back then games were actual games. They had standards for game play and what that should be rather then injecting a cutscene into every minute of the game.
Also you have variety, you have all kinds of games, now we focus only in very few genres and leave a lot in very specific companies
Back then cutscenes felt like rewards, especially the CGI ones. Now they feel like waterboarding since game directors are wannabe Hollywood hacks like Druckmann.

It's also more about the gaming being more open to other people. Back then only true gamers played those games, today there are many casuals who play the games and cry on Twitter about the game not having a homosexual character or being offended by some in-game dialogue or text. Devs just want to cater to those woke people instead of to real gamers who do not give a shit about inclusivity in games. It's also why they made those games so simple and easy in case some braindead people played them.
U guys complain way too much. There wete good and bad games back then and there are nowadays as well. You dont even try to enjoy.
You've gotta check out Web of Shadows. It's got some of the very best combat out of any game I've ever played. The black suit in that one actually has a completely different moveset, and the writing doesn't have that sterilised "safe edge" feel to it where everyone is artificially nice.
To me, a game fails when it has cookie-cutter sections that are so generic that they could be put in any game at all. Stuff like putting out fires with sprinklers, investigating an empty house, running around as some rando who ISN'T Spider-Man, and fake science puzzles aren't very "Spider-Man"-ish, moreso just a thing that any random game could have in it. Whenever you encounter these "slop" sections it's usually just boring filler. Web of Shadows doesn't have any of that stuff, and that's why I think it's not only a far better, more unique game, but also a better Spider-Man game.

As someone who 100% that game, it's wildly overrated.
I agree, "walking simulator" or "clicking simulator" can technically apply to ANY gameplay loop, but the exact point of this complaint is that the player shouldn't ever be taken out of the core gameplay loop if instead we could get a cool cinematic, or for extraordinarily rare instances that aren't boring. (like escort missions are one of the worst possible filler contents especially the kind that was in some older Assassin's creeds...)
I beat marvel spiderman 2 over the weekend over the weekend and I STILL put web of shadows at the top of my list for the reasons you said. I gave this game 7/10 . To many "last of us walking scenes " some of the scenarios in this game flat out doesn't make sense. I'm so glad I have PC. I can get web of shadows and play it forever at 240fps and blazing clarity lol
Don't forget Spider-Man for the PS1. That game was fantastic.

As great as Elden Ring was, I never found an elevator moment. I admit, I only got as far as Altus plateau, but it felt like beating the Taurus demon only to be dropped at Anor Londo. More Sen's Fortress, but it needed a downtime area to flex a little before beating you back down, that or intentionally loop back through Limgrave. I needed some catharsis, is what I'm saying. Now I'm never going to find it cause I've lost my muscle memory

Imagine paying $70 for a game with little to no replay value. You have a room temperature IQ, but the room is in Alaska.
Always great to remember there is good stuff out there. Old games, and some indie games that really do deliver amazing experiences. Boycotting the bad AAA games gives time, space, and freed up pocket change to individuals willing to either dig through the new AA and lower studios stuff for your niche needs, or go back in time to discover things that might have been missed which become personal classics. Good to do in all genres!

Man I loved Prototype. I used to play that game for hours, either wreaking havoc or trying to infiltrate bases without ever being detected. What an awesome sandbox it was. Shame they had to ruin it with the sequel.

Arkham Asylum, Spider-Man 2001, and a couple of the old Transformers games were quite good. The charge-up mechanic in Spider-Man 2 was great as well, powering up an uppercut and launching a goon into the stratosphere will never get old.

It amazes me that they keep doubling down on models that have proven to be terrible in every conceivable way. That ESG money must be pretty good. I really miss games that tried to just be fun. This is a big reason I loved Armored Core 6 in spite of its flaws.
I also liked your point about publishers not always being the bad guy. Halo Infinite is a perfect, recent example of an incompetent dev team. Mishandling Halo is like mishandling Star Wars, it's only possible with room temperature IQ.

I didn't play a lot of superhero games but Lego Batman 2008 and Lego Marvel Superheroes 2013 were so damn fun. It's shame you didn't mentioned them, especially Lego Marvel in context of Marvel Spiderman.

The Captain America First Avenger movie tie in was a mostly decent Arkham clone. Seeing the shield bounce around bonking dudes while your slapping Hydra around was always fun for me.

People saying "remember when games were games" might seem tired, but I think that sentiment holds a lot of water. I mean, just look at what big devs expend their time and resources on. How many hours were sunk into the object and texture that makes up that perfectly rendered can of pop in a massive open world? How much money was spent on hiring some movie star to voice act? How many takes in a full motion capture stage did it take to perfect that one cutscene of two characters talking in a room that 99% of players with either skip or forget about in 5 minutes?
It comes to a point where you seriously have ask what the point of it all is. Sure, it's "neat" that certain levels of detail are in a game, but if you're actually conscious of what you're consuming than it'll dawn of you immediately that a lot of those details don't tend to actually add anything of substance to the game. In fact, much of the time, all they serve to do it messy the experience. Visuals become cluttered, content drags on, and performance tanks as hardware strains to render a thousand different irrelevant objects.
Not true that 99% of players skip cutscenes.

A while ago, there was a webpage called rotten. This was a repository of gore, morbid stuff, just the worst of humanity. And they did biographies of people that fit the profile of the site, sometimes even highlighting the misdeeds of famous people.
One time, they put a profile on Fred Rogers. Yes, Mr. Rogers. They documented his life and his work, and by the end admitted that they couldn't find anything on the man, not even a snippet of him raising his voice, he was impeccable. Their have been bright, shiny, cool looking games that have come out in recent times that I have NO desire to revisit due to their "style over substance" approach. It's a problem that has increasingly been plaguing games for quite a while, and while I love Spiderman 2 so far, I don't have an issue with someone pointing it out

You should definitely try Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, the swinging is as good as in the old game and it has crazy combat, very brutal animations and you can swap between suits mid-combo to do some nutty moves.
We should be thankful to the woke Insomniac devs for making us appreciate even more the absolute masterpieces that the Batman Arkham Games are. Rocksteady managed to balance a cinematic story with fun inmersive gameplay: Batman was the only and true protagonist, completely devoid of pandering by SJWs, the female characters were competent and well-written, the plot was gritty, somewhat grounded and took itself seriously but it had that faithfulness to the Batman comics. Most importantly; we weren't forced to play as boring side characters in long-ass sections with random activities just because the devs wanted to turn the A VIDEOS into an interactive modern Hollywood movie.
Last but not least, each of the Arkham games had new gameplay mechanics and gadgets after the previous one; which Insomniac crearly has not done in this game because the new gameplay features are half-baked and repetitive.

Miles Morales was popular only because Spider-Man was dead, or stuck inside somebody else's mind in his body. Miles Morales was made in an alternate version which wasn't connected to the real one, and people generally liked him, but when they brought him over to the real world and now there's two Spider-Man it caused a lot of conflict he lost popularity. personally I think he looks like a dork, and there should never be two Spider-Man and now Disney/Marvel makes it a point to make a Spider-Man or woman of every race that it's becoming cringe and pretty much making the original Spider-Man generic
Just wanted to say, my dentist had a Nintendo 64, but it wasn't behind plexiglass or anything. It was just sitting on an entertainment center and people were trusted not to take/destroy it. I remember at least one time my brother and I played Wave Race 64 as we waited for our check-ups. Also, they had this giant rollercoaster-looking thing where you would move different color shapes around for the younger kids. Thing was an eyesore and a half, but it got the job done.
The console behind plexiglass used to be a thing. I don't remember one at a dentist's office, but I remember a McDonald's play area had one as a kid.
I watched the making of that Spider-Man 2 game and yeah Tobey Maguire looked half asleep and was clearly phoning it in. Despite that it's still a great game.

Arkham games are the pinnacle of superhero games, especially Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Surprised you didn’t talk about them for longer than a minute in the video. You should stream them soon so you can relive them because you said you loved them (especially Asylum, which I agree on is the overall the best Arkham game). Spider-Man 2018 was great too, although it shared some similarities with ubisoft games.
I hate the fact they won’t patch them to run at 60fps on the PS5. You can get Arkham city to run at 60 on the PS5 if you have the disk version and don’t patch it though.

Arkham city has the best gameplay. It even made playing as Cat Woman into a fun diversion.
They should have just done SM2 in a similar vein as Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales could have stayed for the intro but after the fight with Sandman he urgently leaves the city due to a very personal matter and does his own thing. Miles can return in the third act and while he helps Peter get out of the depression slump that he’s in after feeling like he had failed the city, he would also serve as the penultimate boss fight you have as Venom. But the story should center solely around Harry and Peter’s friendship crumbling away gradually thanks to the symbiote’s influence affecting Peter, while the city is caught in a devastating crossfire with the Sinister Six being mercilessly hunted by Kraven. During the second act of the game, we’re introduced to Venom and you can switch between him and Spider-Man in certain missions throughout the game. That battle at the football field should’ve been the final boss fight of the game between Peter and Venom, where the Symbiote hesitantly separates from Harry who tragically dies from his fatal injuries and bonds with Eddie Brock in a secondary post-credits scene.
But alas, we got Spider-Man training Peter "Darker"

Definitely isn’t just nostalgia, I have also gone back and played some old games I never played and was glad I did. I cant believe how many people are shilling woke modern games like SM2, or Starfield, you either have to be paid off or have never played older games pre ps4/xbone.
I replayed Mount and Blade and Im having a blast, same with Casltevania and MDK. Games back then used to have soul.
There’s also something magical and heartwarming about older graphics. They don’t look ‘worse’ in my opinion, it’s just a different aesthetic.

As said, CoD was good, even great, back then. It's just over-serialization with limited innovation. For AC it went with grinding and selling progress bars. CoD went for diluting its IP with every single pop culture token you could find.
For @mattmas6628 , I fortunately got to revel in Halo 3 around school for a bit before CoD 4. CoD 4 I think really blew up cause it was 60fps, multi-platform, had next to zero second respawn times, and the item progression and prestige that scaled mostly off of time played served as a spectrum of flexing instead of the pretty discrete barriers between having hayabusa/recon or keeping a lvl 50 rank in a playlist. Plus people mistook dying in a quarter second to automatic weapons as being more skill based, somehow.

True momentum. Wouldn't it be cool to loop around a crane arm, shortening the web and building momentum as you do? Go flying off at top speed, or wind down to a flip landing for a launch. I wanted the beautiful lovechild of SM2 and MSM, but we just got MSM's preachier cousin.
I liked MSM, I just reached the skill ceiling too quickly. The other reason I lost interest is, yes thebsecond chapter is the time to have the hero's fall, but in the current climate, and with the established characters, it was clear where they were going to take the narrative.
Aunt May's death coming as a result of Uncle Ben's lesson is poetic perfection, Octavius' gradual decline, both were handled fantastically, if better told in a movie, but the gameplay was a B+

The mid 90’s to the mid - late 2000’s was the golden era of gaming. PS2 of course being the best selling console of all time and devs were allowed to experiment.
I would take your mid 90s and push it back to the late 80s as the starting point of the golden era.

I put an unhealthy amount of hours into the Arkham series and they're the only set of superhero games I've highly enjoyed. Really satisfying combat but the story and investigative elements were also a real stand-out. Also, although it follows quite a rinse-and-repeat formula, Mad Max is very underrated and I can't recommend it enough.

Superheros were suppose to be the ultimate escapism and people who we look up to. They are suppose to reassemble power and someone we should be like. Now it's full of propaganda and superheros nowadays face human problems(like anxiety and mental health) despite the fact they are beyond humans in power. It was suppose to escape from the problems we have in life. Not talk about it. Its a shame that now we have superheros who talk about social issues and are changed or created for the sake of social issues. Not every character in any type of art should be relatable to human's status quo.

Idk, spiderman specifically has always been a character rooted in relatable problems and those problems are what have always made him interesting. Him willingly choosing to help others as a superhero which goes only to impede his happiness as it gets in the way of him leading a regular life is what makes him inspirational, the fact he has a choice simply not to be spiderman, but chooses to be anyway because he knows he has a duty to help others with the powers he's been given.
Also a lot of characters ARE relatable to the human status quo, its what makes audiences empathize with them, its how you write a compelling character. Escapism is fine but most stories have characters that are still somewhat relatable to the human condition in order to pull readers/viewers in.
Well idk about that. Spider-Man was specifically designed to be relatable from the very beginning. And stories are usually better when characters are relatable. (That’s basic psychology). And one of the best pieces of super hero media, The Boys, is enjoyable because you wouldn’t look up to any of the heroes.
Bro marvel’s characters are supposed to be relatable. The x-men are a metaphor for racism, spidey has always had personal problems, hulk is multiple personality disorder and childhood trauma, she hulk (in the comics) is meant to represent self image issues, etc.
