Bill Maher and "Weird Al" Yankovic randomly riff on why Bill moved from his first house, Al’s birthday gift from his wife, the most common joke in a writers’ room, the famous people who went to Al’s high school, the making of the new Weird Al biopic “Weird,” Sacheen Littlefeather’s awful treatment by the Hollywood establishment after she accepted the Oscar for Marlon Brando, the movie Quentin Tarantino has to make, and Al’s strict rules for life on his tour bus.

Weird Al is a classy guy. Never a harsh word to say about anyone, not rude and he seems really sweet.
His Parody of Cher was funny.
Musicians who have played with him say about the same.
I met Al twice (in 1996 and 2001). He was very nice. A true class act.
Unlike Al, Bill was pretty blitzed by the end of the interview. I wonder if he’ll ever watch it sober and realize that his talent goes downhill the more hammered he gets.
@@andrewferguson8032 Pretty sure Maher gets blitzed more or less every time he does this show. Watch the episode with Woody Harrelson. Them dudes were FLYING.
You can tell by Weird Al’s body language he has such a genuine interest in people. Look how he leans forward and listens intently. Just so respectful and down to earth.
SUPER DOWN… to earth 😂
I think he is trying to figure out why he is there.
Lol Bill should be the one listening
Weird Al is a great listener! Doesn't drink or smoke, just leans forward and listens intently to Bill riff. Who knew?
Although it's probably a bit disappointing, having Weird Al as a guest but now I'm 30 minutes in and it's mostly Bill talking about himself again. 🙄
I knew that about him, from past accounts and interviews...He's just sober, friendly, honest...SO refreshing, eh? And the magnificent hair!

@@Fiat_Lux_23 so what else is new ?
Bill with no wife,no children.A classic set up for self absorption. Just like his

@@alienjournalism I mean to be fair Al is pretty boring lol
At 32:30 when Al says he's political but he doesn't talk about it publicly. What a class act! Kind of an old school mentality!
If more conservative Christians were like Al, the world would be a better place. 👍
@@sirsmokeefortwence25 ...the way it should be....the reason why the voting booths are private..
Crazy for Al to have so many years in show business yet still be so pure of heart and mind.
that's cause he was raised right
Unlike the person interviewing him.
Well said…
Actually it's NOT an interview, it's two people having a conversation.
U have to consume a lot of babies blood to be that pure
It was so nice for Weird Al to show up to the podcast and listen to Bill Maher speak.
He was trying to get him to open up. Seems like Al would rather keep his inner thoughts to himself and doesn't really like these kinds of interviews. He was pretty tight lipped on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast too.
I'm ok with that
😂😂😂
That's 'cause Al is squeaky clean and Bill's messed up.
Thanks for the comment, saved me an hour.
Weird Al is an amazing human. I've been a gigantic fan since I was a little kid and this man has never once let me down. The man is a treasure!
I’m 18 and I grew up with his music videos 😂 he’s great
Weird Al is an American treasure that must be loved and protected at all costs. Thank you Al for everything you've made including UHF ❤
Weird Al is an American Treasure. He has made a plethora of highly-entertaining, , musical and funnier than hell music video. His band deserves great credit for being able to play any kind of style to perfection. Tacky is one of the greatest in his catalogue.
Nah, he's a hacky asshole that steal from people with actual talent. Fuc Al
Best cover band in the world.
@Tim Eskew
Al’s not a gimmick, brother. Al is an American institution like Dodge or baseball.
It’s so cool to see Al like this. He looks super healthy and happy. He’s basically had a model career. Not saying he’s perfect, but he’s pretty darn close from a PR perspective and he’s been incredibly prolific musically speaking.
He’s straight laced- doesn’t do drugs or even smoke weed, and never has. He said he’s been drunk a few times in his life but very rarely. Al grew up with super strict, conservative parents as an only child, so that had a powerful influence on his personality (he rarely even curses, either in his music or in conversation) and self-discipline.
Prolific is correct. The fact he’s stayed culturally relevant, especially with original music, for decades longer than almost all the artists he parodied throughout the years, proves a talent that too many don’t give him credit for

very true….and he’s still bookable
@@brutustantheiii8477 And it has been a very stable band since the early 80's with pretty much the same members all along, playing just about any type of music. Very consistent as well, and the silliness of it all is quite misleading. Their "Bohemian Polka" sounds so goofy, but upon closer inspection, it is also a very hard song to play.
Amish Paradise is truly a masterpiece.
Yes. A masterpiece....song AND video.
'Like a Surgeon' is the one that I am most in awe of.
The 25-year-old rumor is he got beat up for it is it true I still don't even know

Al putting his movie on Roku FOR FREE is the kindest move I’ve ever seen from an artist. Plus, it’s very very funny and the cast did such a fantastic job.
He has no say in where his movie goes

Guests like Al are why Club Random is the best show on the internet.
People like AL are the worst humans in history. Talentless asshole that stomps over others art.

I'd say Weird Al was doing far more than "taking it all in". I'd say he was being a very gracious guest on a "show" that did nothing to feature him in the least and did everything to indulge Maher's narcissism.
@@vbros7 that's literally his show and his character/mo. If Al didn't know that (and I'm not saying he didn't) then that is his fault.
That would be like going on Howard Stern and being upset he used dirty words or wasn't PC.

Weird Al not knowing that the podcast started is hilarious
He thinks he was just sitting there randomly bullshitting with Bill, like they were in a dressing room just getting to know each other before they go on a set. 😂
They all realize it eventually
That's the 3rd or 4th time that's happened.
@@TurkAlert its a "creeper podcast"

Weird Al is actually too wholesome for Bill Maher. This felt like Bill's therapy session.
I kept saying "Read the room Bill!" - Al isn't going to bit on drug or kink talk. Why do that to Al except so Bill can hear himself brag about his rich man lifestyle.
I love Al. I have pics of my kids on his bus. Funny, congenial, and always good natured. What a down-to-earth, real guy. Such a treat in a town full of phonies.
If "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" would have come out in theaters, I think it would have had a good opening weekend.
Agree.
Maybe it's just me but I didn't like it
Finally, someone I can watch without retching. I am going to enjoy this, I'm sure.
He has his hits and misses for sure.
For me only one dud guest so far, the fellow who repeated everything at least three times in a loud, irritating voice, a sports guy.
Got tiresome quick, it's the only one where I starting fast-forwarding it back to Bill.
How dramatic
Four Tops have got your song - Retch Out I'll Be There
Since watching a bunch of episodes i now choose the next one based on how Bill is going to talk AT the guest rather than getting to hear what the actual guest has to say...maaan Bill loves the sound of his voice
I love this. Weird Al is such a cool dude.
Word:)
Wow weird Al is such a polite warm person. How could anybody not like him, good dude. Of course I love Bill too. Great episode 👍
He was, in his limited way, candid about some personal things...and this is a tribute to Bill, smoothly eliciting at least some weird things about Al, particularly his arrangements with touring, and only seeing his wife a few times a year!..and she seems to be cool with that!?...Al has something weird going on there, for sure!
I tried to watch his new movie today, while the first act had some laughs, it got so bad in the middle I turned it off and deleted the Roku app off my phone
@@EmperorStarscream it was intentionally bad...you're just not getting it...watch it again at 0.5x
@@JakeWitmer I get it was supposed to be intentionally bad, it just didn't work for me
Weird Al is very Mr Rogers somehow
Exceptional episode!!! Al is a great inspiration. I've been a fan since I was 7. Al is twenty years older than me and Bill is of my deceased dad's generation. Hearing these two laugh and wax poetic about "the good old days" reminds me of my father's stories. Dad took me to a Weird Al show in 1993 and loved it!
I don't know what is more enjoyable
bill being so stoned he doesn't know what is going on
or Yankovic accommodating it
Al was several steps ahead of Bill from the beginning. Bill is pretty smart but not in Al's league. Not even close actually (in my opinion).
How has Weird Al stayed so vanilla all these years? He really is a decent human being.
What's even more amazing is that he's not from a self-deprecating part of the country.
He’s never done drugs or smoked weed and rarely (according to past interviews) drinks. He’s a remarkably self-disciplined guy. He can have it, I’ll smoke and drink with Bill 😂
by staying away from everyone
@@NoneofYourBusiness667 oh he smokes weed lol
The secret to communicating with Bill is to let him talk until he is tired or run out of things to say and then it’s your turn as a guest to speak.
Weird Al is very unique in the music business.Hes had major success selling records of his versions of other people's songs.
He is the only parody artist starting in the late 1970s until now.
Comedians would do funny bits incorporating music putting their own funny lyrics to a song or something, but nobody did it like Weird AL .Al just came along at the right time he is a niche musical artist.
He writes a lot of originals too.
What a cool guy. I've seen many concerts. Pink Floyd in 1989 and Weird Al 1999 are easily my top 2. Al is an unbelievable entertainer. If you ever have a chance to see him, do it, it's worth the money.
I love the dynamic of one guy gradually getting drunker, his speech slurring, while the other dude is 100% sober, just willing to spend time with his slovenly friend.
For real lol
🤣 Sobriety is overrated.
…not quite. it’s bill maher. that’s his voice. and it’s going to take more than that to get him slurring in an hour.
Al has probably had alot of experience being around drunk people.
I love Club Random, but this was a good one. I loved how Al is so engaged, but they both laughed alot, and seemed to really enjoy each others company.
UHF is a masterpiece
It really seems like it was just two buddies catching up and shooting the shit. Great stuff.

Al is such a good guest (and company). He's leaning forward, always paying attention to the host, showing interest the entire time. That's a very cool thing.
Weird Al made kid me very happy with his parody songs from Eat It to Smells Like Nirvana. Kind of lost track of him after that but always appreciated his talents and humor.

You could tell BIll was pretty high by the end of this one lol But Al was very gracious and patient with him
Al is timeless. One of the first albums I bought back in the 90s was "Alapalooza" and it changed my life 😆

i remember a neighbor and school friend of mine from the 4th grade making a copy of Eat It for me. Al has been around my entire life. my dad ordered some Spike Jones tapes from t.v. in the 80s. we laughed at 'you always hurt the one you love' and all the gunshots and washboards. that was what he listened to as a young man. he is 89 now.
My first time listening to Bill's podcast. I'm a big Al fan. Thanks for having him on. Enjoyed you both!
A classic example of a high guy having a conversation with a dead- sober guy. I've been on both sides. It's tough to be the sober one. Weird Al rocks!
Bill says he can be friends with people quickly, but he never lets them speak!
I say the same thing. Really interested in learning more about Al, and Bill can't stop rambling about his BS. Yet here I am, back again 😂 Felt the same with the William Shatner interview
Weird Al did a great job interviewing Bill here, I feel like I learned more about Maher than ever before
Bill does ramble on sometimes, but Howard Stern takes the cake, that guy doesn't shut the hell up. His podcast is irritating.
Bill brings up gay sex a lot for a straight dude
@@Albinoman887 I was thinking the same thing but decided against saying something. He couldn't stop talking about anal sex with that one guest, the conservative podcaster who happens to be gay.
I love Weird Al and I liked him when he first started. He was on Dr. Demento and then the old Friday show. The dude is hilarious.
For some reason, the show seems uncomfortable, or maybe it’s me…probably me. It’s cool that Maher is being himself and all, but I would’ve respected the fact that Al is a very sober and clean guy. There is nothing less fun than sitting sober and listen to someone babble while they’re getting stoned/drunk. At any rate, it was good to see Weird Al, he’s a class act.
Ah another great episode watching a guest listen to Bill

I’ve been a fan of Bill almost as long as I’ve been a fan of Weird Al. So happy about this pairing! And a great episode :)
Nice I can listen to Bill Maher talking for an hour to Weird Al!
Weird Al is very wholesome, which is exactly what I'd expect.
Don't write any music, cause then you'd have to expect him to steal it and make the whole thing into a fart joke. Fuck AL.
So is Michael Jackson, which is WHY he always approved and appreciated Weird AL's parodies! I don't think he ever questioned AL's intentions, talent, nor mutual admiration.
I love this show!!! Best guests, best topics, best FUN. I'm an old guy of 75, and here are a few of my personal memories regarding this episode.
First, I worked with Weird Al on Steven Spielberg's short-lived TV show, "Amazing Stories." Al played a cabbage-headed alien, and he was as genuinely kind as he is with everybody, just a really nice guy, a rarity in his field. On Bill's critique of the latest biopic "Elvis," he was right on the numbers. As good as the young Aussie was at imitating Presley, if you really want to get the essence of the man, catch John Carpenter's original Elvis 1979 drama starring Kurt Russell as The King. Using his acting skills alone, Kurt managed to capture the heart and soul of the man like none other, before or since.
And now for my piece de resistance...
Bill also mentioned a tiny, obscure night club in Hollywood called, "Peanuts." It was a 100% gay night club, specifically for lesbians. He was also correct about the occasional straight patron coming in just to look hip, as "coming out" was still a big deal back then. As my extremely macho friend and I were having a beer, he began a casual conversation with one of the more "butch" customers sitting at the bar next to us, and the conversation soon escalated into a pretty aggressive shouting match, soon becoming a veritable "Anything a man can do, I can do better!" kind of argument, with my friend saying, "Can you drive a truck like a man?" and her replying, "I can drive a truck BETTER than a man!!" But the last thing I recall my friend asking her was: "Can you TAKE IT like a man??" After she gave him her usual reply, he hit her on the chin with a right uppercut that lifted her right off the bar stool. He had done some pretty crazy things before, but now that MY life was suddenly at stake, it took on truly terrifying dimensions. Apparently, she could not "take it better than a man." Remember, this is 50-years before the recent transgender sports controversy, and as I sat there in horror seeing the rather large lady splayed out on the floor, as we were both running down the street, two dozen lesbians chasing us down Santa Monica Boulevard with heavy items in their hands, I remember running for my life, laughing, and cursing his name, all at the same time. Talk about a "Weird" experience, this was one of them, just a strange recollection of my life during the Swingin' Sixties.
My favorite show so far. Please do another one with Weird Al soon!
Wow... I like this interaction between these two, it's somewhat down to earth yet between two famous people... love the humor also🤣👌
If this man is not in the super bowl half time show soon, we have failed as a nation.
He's too real & wholesome for that. Wouldn't be surprised if he declined even if he were offered, not that there's anything wrong with doing that kind of performance

Bill, you just pitched your own movie idea. If someone else does it - including Tarantino - it's SUIN' TIME! YOU make the movie! Produce it, man! Bill Maher's second major feature.
I really enjoyed this show. I was so fortunate to see his show about 15 years ago and it was hilarious and people for the most part do not understand what an accomplished singer and musician Al really is, and, the immense work he put into the show with all the sight gags and costume changes. I'm so glad you did this interview. Weird Al is great, such a regular guy.
Weird Al is a very intelligent guy. Too many people underestimate him, and see him as "just" a guy who does take-offs on other peoples' songs, which he is *great* at, and famous for, *but* he also writes original material, too, that is often sharp and hilarious. Unfortunately, in this discussion, Al didn't have much of a chance to show his wit and smarts, because he was trying to navigate Bill at his very stoned worst.
It's a laid back show where Bill is high. That is the point. If you are looking for something deeper then you are watching the wrong show.
