  • Hi all, I'm a PMDG tech team member and real life 737 pilot. In this tutorial I will show you what to do when you turned your airplane upside down.

Another good tip if you are in clouds it's hard to know which way to roll so: roll towards the "Sky Pointer" on the PFD

Once again a very good video. I never thought about doing such maneuvers in the simulator. The idea of pausing the video so that we can think about a solution ourselves is just brilliant. Very good entertainment and education in one.

"Consider rolling your plane to between 45 and 60 deg bank" Daaaamn, had it not been for the spatial disorientation one might encounter in flight, that would be fairly scary...

I failed to recognize the 2nd upset. I chose to bank left instead of right but right before you unpaused, I realized by looking at standby ADI that there was no blue side on left side and then got confused if I should roll right but this was when I would already be rolling to left and God knows how terrible the situation would be IRL. Thank you for this exercise.

Ironic that 1. You can cause stall by pulling back(aggressively) and
    2. It can be helpful to actually bank the plane to gain airspeed.
An input that would normally save the plane can make it stall(#1) and what would normally cause an upset can also save the plane(#2).

I'm guessing upset recovery in IMC or at night would be disorientating for the PF.

Good instrument scanning is definitely needed!
The crash in Sharm El Sheikh is a good example of how things can go wrong without visual references however.

Any possible tutorial in the near future about ATC / CREW upset prevention and recovery in order to land safely? :D
    .
Thank you for another fantastic video :)

CRM is certainly something I'm considering for future videos.

20:14 damm, now there a tricky picture on the ADI. I wonder if it is modeled right in flight sim, usually there is a little sliver of blue on the ADI, just so you can see the sky is at your feet.

mmh, good question. I don't remember off my head right now how it looks in the real one, we don't turn the plane upside down every day LOL

@@A330Driver I was messing around in our fixed base trainer, just to practice some uprt. Ps, I fly a an a220, so may be slightly different.

does this trim even work correctly? i know there are times when i'm landing in the sim and the trim is at like 10 units nose up and the nose is still dipping.... even with vref+15 for example... is this correct behaviour?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 роки тому +2

It can be correct behaviour, yes. Depends on the circumstances and loading of the plane for sure, but overall yes, it is possible to need such a trim setting for landing.
In the -800 in real life we usually find the trim somewhere around 9 units after landing. The flaps cause a strong nose down moment which is why so much nose up trim is needed to compensate.
