Solo Female Van Life at age 70! Tour of INCREDIBLE DIY Ford Transit Stealth Camper Conversion.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 жов 2020
- Virginia lives in her van full time and has been traveling North America in her Ford Transit that she designed her self and helped mostly DIY'ers build. She did get her Solar and electrical done by friends of the channel Ray outfitted (www.rayoutfitted.com/)
Virginia wasn't sure what she was going to do with her retirement until she learned about van life and decided that designing and building out a van to travel and live in was her next creative project. She finds a lot of joy meeting other travelers on the road and has made lots of friends on her adventures.

I love this woman.
I smiled at that too.
I just said the same thing🥰🥰 I heart her so much!!! I want to meet her☺️
She was amazing and a very young “70”. Stay safe and thanks for sharing your life with us! Blessings on your travels!🙏🏻
Why can’t l find one like her. Such joi de vie
Love her, she’s gangster
Her van is the best setup I've EVER seen, because it's simple, clean, upscale and stylish, organized and cleverly built. Bravo, ma'am!
I agree completely.
Yesss!
@@nancyst.john-smith3891 DITTO!
I agree! Her van feels more open than others. I guess it's because she doesn't have any upper cabinets. I love her artistic and very clever van build.
I feel the same. GOALS!
I'm 68,and i love to see older women kick ass,and do their thing!! Beautiful home! Be safe,be in peace!
Virginia is so full of wisdom! I learned so much just listening to her for 20 min. She is such a beautiful person and I wish her many more years of van life adventures.
Wisdom is the trade off for getting old. To become wise and mentor until your death is a wonderful thing.
She’s right. The older you get...the more of your family & friends die.
Your history slips away & the younger family members really don’t know who you are. After a while, You become your own best friend.

So inspiring! I'm 66 and have been dreaming of van-life for a while. Insulating with foam insulation is genius. I care for my 95 y.o. mother, so I am tied to my home. If ever the opportunity comes to me, I will do this. I want to see so much before I cannot see any more. First things first, love for the woman who raised me and always accepted me and my wanderlust years ago, top priority. We will then see where life leads each of us as we grow older.
Wow sounds like me and my mom❤
Bless you with looking after your mom - and wish you well with your possible future travels. 🌹🌹
I think you might be me. 🤔💕
Please do it!! You deserve it!! Can’t wait to watch your videos 🤗
Wow you’re very cool at 66 lady ❤ shout out to you for taking care of your 95 year old mum 🙏🏽 you’re the best ✨✨it’s crazy cus I’ll probably be doing this at 66 and then also my daughter might be doing this for me at 95… it’s crazy to think 💭 on it but life really takes it turns 😔
Love this lady and her view of life. Kudos to the interviewer as well for letting this beautiful soul shine bright. ❣️
Wonderful woman. She’s right - so many of us are not living the life we want. “ don’t just dream, do”
Yes if a person has a income they can live like that. No matter what age. But her life is not the homeless life at all not even. Not all people can do what she does. And if she needed to say go home I bet she does have one. That's good to.
@Armando Silvier who cares. If you want to do it find a way and just do it. Its not like ur gonna get married tomorrow. You dont have to plan to live in a van forever. U can Just experiment and see how it works for you. You are limitless but you limit yourself
Amen to that. You are right indeed
Tanya; I have been considering selling my home and buying a travel trailer. My biggest fear at 71,yo is dying on the road and being slumped over the wheel..I have thought about placing an envelope with all the information needed on the dash board addressed to "finder."
I admire this lady and wish I had her
Tenacity....She is intelligent and articulate....I do dream but still trying to do..
@@wonder01lewis25 it’s true I chose this life style. Not everyone can spend thousands on a van YET on the road I’ve met people who this was only the best of the bad options. Funny though once they got out on the road they too loved it. When we camp we are all equal. That’s why I love this community.
This woman is amazing!! And I love her personal philosophies: "Say yes often" and "Don't just dream. Do." So impactful in their simplicity.
She's so wise. "Because people aren't living the life they want to live." So true. Also, her van is lovely. Love the woodwork and painted table.
Appreciate her story as a single senior female and her safe measures in place. Also her recognizing others fears are not hers. Great design except for no potty seat. She makes it work for her which is important.
She has one 😉 it's in the
back of the van ...
“If you break that down, you’ll find that fear isn’t real.”
Perfectly said.
Could have done with talking with her about that topic decades ago
False Evidence Appearing Real 💁🏻♀️
Survival instinct. Her reaction is to drive away.
This woman is a role model. She knows what she is doing and not aging by inertia. Bravo.
Oh, I agree! I'm 57, and taking full time care of my very elderly parents. This is my dream, to own a beautiful van. This is incredible, she is definitely an inspiration! Beautiful ❤️🌼🔥
Totally agree! I'm recently retired and 65 and this too is my dream. I would love to know more details about how she started the van project, and all of the details.

You have a beautiful van. I am 70 and I envy you to be able to do this. I am tied to my recliner because I am a retired nurse and I worked in a long term care facility for 30 years and my late husband passed away in August 2008 and he was a Vietnam Veteran and he ended up with Agent Orange in his lungs and I cared for him at home for his last ten years. I had to retire in June 2010 because I couldn’t get my work done in 8 hours and had to hold on to the rails to get out the door. I worked third shift and I was on a unit that had 51 patients on it. Too much work for one person. You enjoy your van life. I hope someone goes with you.
Hello how are you doing?
Oh Carol I'm sure you could get a recliner in one of these vans!!! Don't envy Virginia because you can do this too, or something that feels more like your dream. I'm sorry about your husband and your work experience. Bless you. I'd love to see your van on a future show.
God bless your faithfulness. You must have faith, your time is coming. God is faithful. Your love and caring for others will not go unnoticed❤
Gotta keep moving, walk every day and eat healthy. You can turn your health around. My dad is 89 and he walks 3 miles daily. Not at one time, but he’s constantly moving around. New health reports are saying that sitting all day is worse than chain smoking 😬
Try it part time. Keep the recliner at home and take short trips. That is what I plan for when I retire in a few years.
“People don’t usually live the life they want to live”. Profound indeed. Because we all suffer from a need to believe we fit in with societal expectations.
Damn, what a refreshing personality, especially about loving others. We need more of it. Beautiful van, beautiful artistry, beautiful person.
We have more of it,, in real life, I've met quite a few ppl who do this, you must not get out much ?🤭

I love the way you let Virginia tell her story and show her van without inserting yourself into the narrative.

@@Alternativedwellings I really enjoy your interview style taking a few minutes after the walk thru to ask the questions we would ask if we had the chance to meet her in person!- thanks for sharing!!
I agree - I get tired of hearing cameramen asking questions and sometimes cutting them short when they telling their story.
TOTALLY AGREE.
I really enjoyed this van tour, but it was the interview you did with her at the end that was pure gold! Such a lovely, wise, emotionally intelligent human. May her continuing travels be happy and safe!
A very courageous woman! So refreshing to see an older pretty woman living in her van & enjoying it! Blessings to you!
Being in her age range I absolutely loved this video. She’s a really neat lady and I wish her the best.
She reminds me of Eve Arden.
Her van is beautiful. Its roomy and doesn't look cluttered and its stylish. I love it!
She is so calm. I can't see her getting too upset about anything.
I’ve never ever seen anyone else with a full length mirror. This is a very clever, creative, and ingenious lady.

Her pantry opening to the inside and outside is genius!
Definitely! It’s my favorite part! So well designed
What a unique way to travel. You get tired you find a place to park and your not searching for a motel. I'm loving your independence. My Mom would have loved this especially after my Dad passed. She was 10 years alone after my Dad passed. She was beautiful and blonde like you. Sad she passed away at 73.I miss her so much. I love your independence. She had no problem driving wherever she wanted. You did such an excellent job. I love you full length mirror. I have a fairly large house yet it's a lot for me to take care of. I'm a southern woman. My Dad basically my entire family was LEO. So when my Dad had his girls. He made sure to teach us how to due things. Change a tire and learn self-defense. We also were taught how to shot and use runs safely. So I would not be afraid. I'm a very petite tiny woman. Yet I feel I can handle something if it came time or them. When I have just me and my miniature 2 fur babies. So you have given me a lot to think about. I have a bucket list of places I want to see. I'm retired in the Beauty industry yet you never truly retire. I can trade haircuts and other services and in learning to make unique jewelry. I don't have a twitter acct or Instagram. Yet I'm thinking of at least getting an Instagram. I have a FB account yet I rarely use it. Thanks so my h for sharing your journey.💖💕💖💕🦋. Suzanne.🦋

Just a thought about safety that most others wouldn't think of...
always think about where you park...an RV Park, a supermarket pkg lot, AT LEAST TRY not to put your vehicle in a position where you could be boxed in by several other vehicles working together. You look to be living the way you do for fun not necessity. You keep your van up.
You look like you could have valuables aboard.
Scenarios where most likely to happen...in a bad section of any city,
anytime of day. You pull into a dead end st just to turn around and before you know it...esp. nowadays where
news cycles chg so fast! you are surrounded by people who are there for a little "unfinished business" and they could care less about what you have to say abt it...to them you are in the way! What will you do?
The element of surprise causes people to.make stupid mistakes!
Buy an AIR HORN at a local marine hardware store and keep it handy...
Thieves have an aversion to noise...they. thrive on secrecy!
Do NOT spend time analyzing...
react fast! They won't expect someone older to do that...be fast!
My horn laid on hard and long summoned a passing cop car that saved me from having a real bad nite or worse!
I just have a keen sense of awareness sometimes.
I'm back in my thirties, need to chg clothes from my housecleaning job to my first prenatal visit. Pkg lot...off season ...at a mile long Beach
I park in the middle ...there's people at both ends. I take out my binoculars ...check things out when I see a man looking back at me. So I grab my clothes...chg as fast as possible and he ends up beside me as I'm pulling up my fly...so I cover myself w. my shirt. He turned out to be a very assertive guy who wasn't going to take no for an answer. I moved the conversation to a close and moved on outta there fast before he couldn't think what to do and, plus...he was out of. his car...I wasn't...a momentary advantage.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS TAKE CHG...OPPORTUNITY DOES NOT KNOCK TWICE IF AT ALL!
BE SAFE...PLAN AHEAD THINK OUT
SCENARIOS ...ACTIONS ...HESITA-
TION WILL GET YOU HURT OR WORST.
(I drive a cab in the city although I
live in a village...I am older than you!
"A lot of your fears evaporate when you look at them." Thank you, Virginia.
Now that's worth taking on board very much. For all of us. Very much.
Oh my goodness, what a lovely personality. "It's not brave ... it's just facing your fears" - which of course is what courage is. Good for her. I love it!
How hard is it, really, to “face your fears”, when you have the RESOURCES she does?
She has a HOME, so isn’t “living the van life” out of necessity, as other Elders are!
She has “loving friends”, who helped with the conversion ; and she had the MONEY to design and build her van! (She also has the option of returning to her house to “remodel”)… Additionally, she has a grown child giving her “permission” to spend her inheritance! (My own is too mentally Ill to even talk to me, after years of trauma and heartache, so I hope she knows just how lucky she is)!
When you are disabled, alone, and Resource-Poor, a very real fear is becoming homeless-with just $841/SSI monthly income. When THAT’S the fear she has to face, I’ll agree that she’s “brave” ; as opposed to confidently adventurous-until she’s had her fill of living/traveling in a luxury van.
@@nanwilder2853 Stepping out of your comfort zone - whatever that means to you and your personal situation - is brave, period. Whatever resources she has available don't diminish that. And my calling her courageous doesn't diminish your personal situation and what you have to face in any way at all. No one is attacking you. I'm sorry you're dealing with such a tough situation.
Nice to 'meet' you, Virginia. Thanks for showing us around your home, and for sharing some wisdom with us. I particularly like your beautiful 'wood quilt'.
She's freaking awesome. And just FYI, you're actually much safer in your van than in a house. One of the factors that men who attack perfect strangers use is learning the victim's routine. In a van, that's a lot less likely.
That's actually a really good point! Your comment has made me look at van life again.
Thank you!
How about 80. Have been thinking of this for awhile but
Wondering the safety on the road these days traveling solo.???
Oh I have to say she is the most normal wonderful intelligent soft-spoken brave woman that I have seen on UA-cam she makes me think I can do it thank you and I love the build
Gina That's exactly how I feel. I love this lady.Great motivation.
I'm 71, so I'd start off small and try 2 weeks of camping and see how I liked it, rather than jump into buying an RV. There are lots of videos on people telling how they regretted buying the wrong RV's (one couple when through 4 the first year), so in this case bigger isn't always better.
I have a travel trailer that is on a permanent site and I love it but I really want to see more of the world I don't want to regret it later that I didn't do it. I am from Philadelphia and I'm looking for something small and RV or an extended van so if anybody knows anyone please don't hesitate to contact me thank you
Gina if it is in your heart you can do it! Mowing what you want and need to be happy on the road is imparting the rest is just problem solving. Don’t just dream - do!
Exactly
"People don't live the life that they want to live." How true is that!
She's so creative! And her personality is lovely. I like what she said about accepting all different kinds of people without prejudice. She's right. There is something we can learn from everyone.
Beautiful art work on the back! I don't know why, but after watching a lot of these videos some of the absolute best vans are built by older women! So practical and well put together.
I agree!!!
"So practical and well put together." Do you mean the van, the women, or both? ;)

I have been looking at thousands of Van builds over a 7 year period and I believe that I have just found the one I want … so simple and nice … Thank U
I love her... You just know she was a hippie back in the day. The turquoise ring, the frog holding up the peace (we had a lot of those around growing up with my hippie parents) sign, all the different art, the friendships, the diys, the openness, the acceptance of others. She is the embodiment of my childhood dreams. The traveling, everything about her, even how she does this by herself... I'm such an oddball compared to most. I'm an extrovert but I also love and adore being alone. I love people but I equally love being by myself.
Love it but must have indoor shower

What a lovely lady and great inspiration!!! God Bless her and keep her safe in her adventures!!!
I love, love, love this conversion fantastic!!!!!!!!!! The artwork is beautiful, but what I most like is she didn’t do the long bench like mostly everyone does. I prefer the small little benches with the table that pulls out from under the bed. What perfection that turned out to be. I wondered how to illuminate the bench/couch but keep a small table. I don’t foresee me having a lot of company and by luck I found this video and it solves my problem perfectly. Also what Genius it was to make the pantry accessible from the inside as well as the outside cooking area. I’m amazed how well she thought everything out to fit her needs. I’m sure she is very pleased with the outcome and I pray she has many happy travels.
What an open minded bad ass lady! Wishing her all the best in her travels:)

@@virginialowe9828 maybe I missed it but how long have you been living in your van? Another question is do you have hobbies that require extra storage like jewelry making or knitting etc. I bought my van Nov 2019 and by Jan I was ready to start my build. I bought materials and supplies then Covid put the gris gris on my build. While I was stuck at home I realized I have more craft making supplies than any one person could possibly need. I am willing to downsize on everything else but would need several large containers even after I pare down. What is your advice on storage needs?
Virginia's attitude is awesome and inspiring. "Don't just dream, Do!!" needs to be on van stickers, and her Logo on merchandise, and also on a wood quilt! I wish Virginia could be my mentor. This is well planned out. I think you have everything you need. I've been thinking about doing this van living. But I've watched lots of UA-cam about converted vans. But many of them look so tiny when they're done. Love this one. I also like that there's extra room to store things in the back. Also, your outside cooking setup is good. Love your drawers that pull out both ways. What a great idea. You mentioned that you have cameras on the outside of your van so you can see what's going on. I really love that idea. That's something that's been worrying me. You fixed that fear for me. Thank you and stay safe and happy.
Excellent Q&A with Virginia doing 99% of talking. Many videos have too much talking by interviewer (ego?) So this was refreshing. Love V's van layout. Best I've seen. At 70 myself this video is most informative and I'll be saving this for future reference! Virginia is loaded with style and design!
Love this beautiful lady. She has such a soothing spirit. And I love you for sharing this video. You did a terrific job filming the details, like a close-up of the inside of her back door, "wood quilt" and her art work from her friends. I will certainly follow her Utube channel and incourage her to make more videos. I want to follow along on her journey of life. What a great example of living a happy life Virginia shared with us. today.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video style
I thought so too, soothing is the right word for this wonderful woman 👍😉🍀
I agree!
Sounds like you would also really enjoy Hannah Lee Duggan. Much younger but a similar spirit. She lives in her van sometimes parttime, sometimes fulltime and has just bought an old cabin in the woods that she is renovating. She has many different kinds of videos and a highly interesting background, with for example a Spanish-speaking "step" family abroad and lots more that she does not mention often (such as the fact that she speaks Spanish). She is a whizz at everything she does and is highly talented. Not all her videos are as soothing and she is generally more energetic than Virginia, maybe because of her age, but their attitudes are similar. Enjoy.
I’m currently try to learn to make videos. It’s a huge learning curve so be patient with this old girl. I’ll get there.
She gives me a lot of inspiration in knowing that it's not too late for this 47-yr-old to live this kind of life.
What a wonderful interview at the end. So inspiring. I think it will open a lot of eyes and get people thinking in a different way. Good job. A fellow Canadian living in NC.
She is a lovely person and so creative! You are an inspiration!
22 years as a massage therapist. I'm on my way to be Virginia! Love her! ❤️💜❤️
Hello Doreen
I'm also a massage therapist.
I travel alot, I want a motor home or van one day,
I could never travel alone.
I absolutely love this lady!!! Omg she is so wise! I’m 39 and I promise myself to do everything in my hands to one day enjoy my future van life like she does. God bless this lady and I wish her a happy retirement!🥰
I felt really good watching Virginia's van tour.
What a blessing to be beautiful at 70 and bless to travel and live in a van? Lucky you lady, God bless you very good, happy trails.👍🙏💯
That outside table and double sided pantry are brilliant.
She could make a ton of $$ making the wood quilt for other RV’ers and Van life explorers!
Just beautiful!! I would love a wall like that in mine - great for kitchens or bathrooms too - Wow!
She is inspiring and quite strong while being darling too!! Great video!
The security system is a brilliant idea. Never thought of that!!! Sweet van
Lovely Virginia. Such a wonderful story. I'm doing a van for me and the dogs. Not full time living just comfortable travel, so the materials you are using is very helpful.
Positivity, civility, emotional intelligence, rational responsible common sense, awareness, kindness....choosing to face your fear...understand the critical importance of you choose the environment you want by how you choose to think...an actual awesome adult, thank you! 😊💕🦋
Thanks. These things have stood by me. My truest hope is people can discover this path for themselves. Whether on the road or in a sticks and bricks.
I love seeing a woman of a certain age doing her. And that art piece on the back door is amazing.
How are you doing 😊👋☺️☺️👋
Gosh, she is wonderful and so true to herself. I hope I run into her out on the open road one of these days! Thank you!
She has such a great outlook!! Inspiring
I love her energy and personality. The wood quilt is beautiful. Smart idea for the mirror 😄
I'm a 53 yo single mom. I have at least 5 more years till my daughter graduated. You are my inspiration! I want to travel when I retire and worry I'll be "up there" when I'm ready. You are a wonderful example of a woman doing what she wants regardless of age. Rock on, lady!
Good luck. I am 55yr old single Mom and I am at last done raising all 4 kids. I wish my country is van life friendly. All the best to you.
Live the life you want in small ways now. Get the van. Be a weekend warrior. Go in a tent the more you bring into your life now the more possible it will be in 5 years. Happy AdVANtures
