    A couple tips, as I installed this unit in my truck. I left the tray pad in. There's no reason to take it out, as I still use the tray. I did not use the 3M tape, just left it and bolted the unit in. It is rock solid and doesn't need the tape. The tray liner prevents any rattle that could have occurred. Mark and drill the tray with the pad in. Then, pull the pad and ream the holes in the tray a little, as they are overly tight. Put the pad on the mounting plate with the four bolts and then put the plate and pad on the tray and bolt it up. Use a piece of mask on the dash to protect the trim if prying when removing the tray for installation. Lifting the back of the tray slightly and then lifting the front of the tray with my other had was the ticket for getting the clips loose. Great mount and the video was helpful. I also got an iPad mount for the passenger to watch videos.

      I went with putting it on top of my pad as well. After drilling the holes for the mount, I put the pad back in the tray. Turn the tray upside down but put scrap 2x4 under the hole. This keeps the pad in place while drilling through the holes already cut in the tray. If you don't support the pad, it just flexes up. Once the holes are made through the pad, turn it right side up, then drill through the pad again to get more of the rubber reamed out.
      Note: On the F-150, remove the tray by removing the 2 rear bolts. Then it simply slide back and off. No prying needed.

    You made this so simple for me. Just finished drilling and mounting. It's getting dark so I'll be fumbling around with that speaker wire and last few bolts haha. I didn't read the instructions so I'm glad you mentioned wait 24 hours to mount the phone/tablet. My 8 year old is really excited to try it out on her tablet.
    My only complaint during install was they sent the exact same size drill bits and the 7 mm did not fit the bolts under the speaker cover. No worries, I just ran to the toolbox and found a bigger drill bit lol. Thanks again man.

    Just installed my Bulletpoint. The connector to the speaker doesn't just "come apart. There is a small detente (dunno what it really is) but I pushed it down with a small flat tip screwdriver and it came apart. Of course I spent about 25 min. attempting to get it apart. Nice, thanks for the demo .... I just ordered the kit with a phone and tablet mount as was curious about the mounting. Looks like a straight forward install. I'll be cutting my mat as well as my dash cover. Not sure why they have you wait 24-hrs to use it considering the 4 bolts secure the mount so well, but ... Thanks again.

      @edbrumbaugh9202, I'm glad my video helped out. I think the wait time is to allow the 3M tape to set up and prevent vibration. I also added a rubber strip along the front edge under the clips to prevent vibration off road and on rough roads. I show it in my second video here...

    I have this system installed on my F-150 and it is rock solid and a great mount.I did install it with the rubber mat in place, didn't cut it as you did, just marked and drilled through it and it works just fine.My only complaint is the rubber grip pads on the phone holder both loosened and fell off not long after installation.They're just glued on and the hot temps just loosen the glue.This is not a big deal if you use a case on your phone.Job well done on the video...

    Question: I have a Samsung Ultra 22 so it's a heavier phone, do you think the phone will slide out of the holder? I don't like that the holder they provide does not have a bottom cradle.

    • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades  2 роки тому

      @Cameron Little, Thank you for the comment! The spring loaded phone clamp is very solid along with rubber on the sides I don't think your phone will fall out of it. I have taken the truck on many backroads and heavily wash boarded roads, its never fallen out. I have an iPhone 13 Pro with the largest storage drive available so it's got some weight. Make sure you match your phone size to the standard or XL clamp.

    • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades  Рік тому +2

      @mark filmore, I think that would be a good method for mounting the bracket. It may stand up above the dash slightly depending on the bushing thickness and not be flush. The provided screw length may be your only problem, I would double check. I also wouldn't use the 3M tape incase it doesn't work for you then you could still mount it to the tray with the mat trimmed if needed.

      @LeeH-Ranger83, they do more than just phone mounts. I mount my Haloview backup camera monitor for my travel trailer offset to passenger side. You could mount a Go Pro, tablet and radio mic too. Cable management can be a problem, I've thought about installing some plug in ports in the back side of the storage tray to clean it up.

    • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades  Рік тому

      @Jeffrey Glass, great question. First off Bulletpoint recommends this in their instructions. I believe it's to allow the adhesive to set up so you don't get any vibration noises with the mount contacting the plastic tray during offroad or rough road travel. Personally I can't stand vibration / rattling noises while on the road.

    • @MPD-ih6sm
      @MPD-ih6sm Рік тому

      @@jacobsupgrades I agree with Jeffrey and Michael. I don't understand the reason for adhering the mount with double stick tape to the tray since it's screwed down and held with nylon locknuts. It isn't going anywhere. I can see using maybe single sided rubber insulating tape for vibration. But, even then I think you might have more stress noises from the 3 tray plastic clips. Nothing against you Jacob, you've done a great job on this video. I'm just trying to make sense of Bulletpoint's use of double sided tape.
