    Hey, pardner. Thanks for posting this. My quearion is With only the one cross beam the hoist is bolted to, what keeps the crossbeam perfectly square as you slide it side to side? Wouldn't ot be better to have two cross beams to ensure it stays square, especially under heavier loads, or is that not necessary?

    • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades 6 днів тому

      @@celticcraps yes this design with only one crossbeam has caused issues with binding up while moving side to side. I have thought about adding a second one with trolly wheels to prevent it from binding up. Otherwise I have to grab it in the middle to move it without binding while under load.

      @@jacobsupgrades I wondered. I have seen another that built with two on here and mounted the hoist to a board between them. You mentioned cut sheets. • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades 6 днів тому

      @ I found the unistrut cut sheets for loads and spacing on the Menards product page on their website, since that's where I was buying from. These are specifically for the unistrut and not the structure you're attaching it to. As a word of caution unless the structure you're attaching it to is designed to take 800lbs I would advise against it. As a rule of thumb if you have a second story above where you're attaching it you could carry a heavier load than say a roof structure. But I would advise against lifting an engine or anything heavy like that especially if using lag bolts. If you're really adamant about it I would hire a local structural engineer to evaluate your structure and draw up a plan of action.

    Jacob..I have a 2019 F150 . Due to noise on lft side , I replaced one 4wd actuator and hub as well as axle. Seemed to work fine, But now that the weather is cold, it takes over a mile for the actuators to disengage to 2wd. Normal? • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades 22 дні тому

      @@ccausey5512 I've noticed that it sometimes it takes a few hundred yards for the hubs to disengage. If you're not going very fast and let off the gas it helps to disengage at lower speeds. If you plan to replace the lines yes you will need the lower sections of line. The best way to test the lines is with a vacuum pump to see if they hold vacuum pressure.

    Hi Jacob! What is the power source to the tank heaters? The Lithium batters you are heating or another source. Thanks so much. Cheers from Michigan. Sorry, I am new to this stuff but will be Nomading by this summer once I get my rig and set it up. Thanks for sharing.

    • @jacobsupgrades
      @jacobsupgrades 24 дні тому

      @@robertclymer6948 great question! The Lithium batteries are powering the heating pads. That's why it's so important to have the thermostat outside of the insulated pocket so they have the chance to kick on before the batteries get too cold and shut down. I haven't had a chance to see how many days these will run before draining the batteries so it's a good idea to have a backup power source. My 800 watts of solar were able to get back to 14.0 volts by mid morning when the temps were below freezing. I always have my generator as backup power if needed but rarely ever use it unless we want to use the microwave or AC. That's awesome you plan to get into the Nomad lifestyle, it's a blast. What kind of rig are you looking at? I would highly recommend solar and a good power inverter for any Boondocking setup.
