Your channel has some really great, informative videos and I will certainly be taking these tips onboard. I can feel that I am beginning to relapse in my depression and anxiety, so I look forward to implementing some of these! Depression runs in my family, and I have had a few relapses already (I'm 22), but a good thing about this is that I can tell when things aren't going so well. Thank you for your great information!
You are welcome. I am glad that you said, "I can tell when things aren't going so well." This is the first part of relapse prevention. Here is a video I made on the subject that I think you will enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/76FD9n7T9Uk/v-deo.html
If you give me your email address, I will send you a free chapter on relapse prevention from my book Healing From Depression: 12 Weeks to a Better Mood.

Thank you for sharing all this information.
i wish i had friends who cared enough to listen.
Most of them mock..
Some listen politely - for a bit - but slowly disappear.
I've lost everyone. They cast me aside. It adds so much to the pain. If people could just understand how much love and compassion would do.
Felipe im your friend I care and I will listen
if you have a messenger just add me,BLACKPEARL'S CAPTAIN,i am willing to listen
I am 45, going through my 4th depressive episode. I tell myself 'this too shall pass...' as it did last three times. It passed! 🙏
Same here
"this too shall pass " , I used this phrase in a moments emotional pain, and to my surprise, it helped me to reduce it. There is something powerful in these words.
I agree totally.
My father used to say that. It does help.
Yes it does.
Douglas Bloch funny how phrases affect us all differently, this too shall pass, used to and still dos really wind me up!
Yes it passes but I dread the next episode, each time it feels like I’m fighting death, but each time I get more tired, and feel like welcoming death.
This too shall pass......till next time....when the sufferer may pass.
Svetlyachok Amen to that comment 👏👏👍❤😊
my lists.....
1.self care
2.spend time with families
and friends>socialize.
3.exercise/yoga/meditate
4.go to Depression/bipolar

@@savingpeace8452 I'm going try it but I dont have social group or much social skills
Thanks for the sleep reminder
Sleep for eight hours !? You’re obviously not an older person. I haven’t had eight hours sleep for decades.
Is it normal to cry really hard when listening to this? I need a hug now.
Ask around with people you know.
Hugs
Hi I recommend finding a tree when one is depressed. Go out side and be with a tree.
I like that.
You are really a great person may God guide your ways and bless you
Thanks
Hello Douglas, currently I'm going through the darkest times of my life and watching your vídeos has given me a little bit of hope that things will get better, thank you
You're welcome. I'm glad the videos have been helpful. Have you seen my videos called "your pain is not forever." And "four words that can save your life?" You might find them helpful
Unfortunately friends leave us when we need them so much. I had a so called friend tell me "find new friends" !!!!!!!,
Sorry to hear that
Patricia Chalmers same
Loyalty is an important trait to look out for when you are looking to make friend. Loyalty and goodness in a person often goes hand in hand. So usually you get that bonus in the same package.
Say I lie down in peace and sleep for you alone oh lord make me dwell in. Safety. Psalm
So sorry you were unwell. *Hugs*....glad you are better. It is so kind of you to help out when you are going through depression yourself. We are all in this difficult race. Sending hope, light and hugs to everyone going through depression and any other mental illness.
Thank you
Fasting and avoiding carbs helped me a lot, I am lot less depressed now and I have more good thoughts and doing better and better.
I’ve always said that no one truly understands depression unless they have experienced. I find your channel and videos the most helpful with information that makes sense to my depressed brain. I believe what u say because you have experienced it. I am starting to implement your advice and things are working! My bad days are no longer weeks but just a day or two. Slow changes are happening which is encouraging. You also validate my feelings which helps me feel understood & I share ur videos with my friends to help them
Understand as well. I also like your calm & honest demeanor. It helps me trust in what you say & feel less shameful of what I’m experiencing. THANK YOU!! You have truly turned your suffering into helping others. I know I can’t be alone in feeling this way. I subscribed and keep watching & working because as u know it doesn’t happen overnight. And the short videos help keep my attention and not feel overwhelmed. Excellent job!!! Also....I can tell you really care because you KNOW first hand how this disease can destroy you and how the people who haven’t experienced it can say all the wrong things. You are helping me! Thank you!💖
Thank you very much for your kind words. I’m glad the videos of been helpful. Let others know

Mr Douglas as per your chart I have been doing some on my own in each category, also I mentored to others suffering as well as it becomes natural to relate cuz the shoes fits...Stumbled on your channel today such Blessings ❤😊👍
Thanks. Keep up that mentoring.
I used to have a card saying "This too shall pass" that I kept in my wallet. I wouldn't take it out on purpose, but find it and read it every now and then by accident and it was surprisingly powerful.
Hi Doug I hope you are well, my friend?
I always gain value from your videos and this one (and Part 2) are no exception, especially as I am currently going through a depressive episode since yesterday. I also have the first of my driving lessons tomorrow which is a bit of a good and bad thing; good in one way because it means I have something important to focus on etc but bad in some ways because my mental and physical energies are just not up there at the moment.
Wish me well and I'll let you know how I get on...
Have a good week and everyone reading this
Thanks Steve. I wish you the best on your deriving test.
I am grateful that I found your videos. It helps that you share your story also. Thank you for the concrete suggestions. Staying safe for 24 hours is doable for me. I have your newest Kindle book and have begun reading it on my computer at Amazon. Your fearless honesty is uplifting. Thanks again.
Thanks for your kind words Kathleen. What book are you reading?
You give me hope and calm me down...thank you

Good Info Douglas you are saving lives this is a big deal that alot of people just ignore depression and go along with their life until they wonder why they are getting these symptoms and ignoring them.
I’m glad you found this helpful. You can come to one of my live shots every Sunday at 12 PM Pacific time United States. Just come to the homepage of the UA-cam channel and click on the link

Hi Douglas, hope this finds you well 🙏🏼 thanks once again for such a supportive video... a life line really. I feel like a broken record with my relapses and choose to isolate myself. This video really has given me some hope of moving through ( i am grieving for the loss of one of my sweet cats, he was my soul mate and still young) Kindest regards to you. 🙏🏼💜
Yes, our sweet cat died in the fall. By the way, there is a part two of this video that you might want to watch.
Thanks Douglas
Thank you for making us feel that we are not alone in this world.
There are millions of people experiencing the same thing as you are
Thank you for this! You're videos are very helpful. Please keep making more :-)
You are welcome. I plan to keep making more videos as long as I have some good information to share.
Made me sad when you mentioned going into ECT. Life is so cruel. Really struggling for any meaning at the moment myself. Thank for all the videos.
You are welcome. Don't feel too sad about my going into ECT. It helped me to recover. What types of treatments are you trying?

Thank you
When I was on Citalopram it masked the depression so that I felt OK without even doing the things that prevent depression such as exercise, practicing mindfulness, volunteering and social contact. It made me feel too tired to do those things. So when I came off Citalopram or changed medication I became depressed.
thanks again Douglas, I;m trying to get on the healing side of the road. I have massive mood problems in the mornings. I am glad you have your channel, your personal experience, calm demeanor, knowledge, and doable actions . i listen to a couple before i get ready to try to get my mind going in a better direction. thanks again, you're helping, you just don't know me.
Thanks for your kind words. If you email me at douglasboch@gmail.com, I will send you a free ebook of my memoir, "When Going Through Hell..Don't Stop!"
thank you Douglas, I will email you, tough week. I think that's why I keep watching. Thank you for your video
You are more than welcome
Thank you I enjoy you videos 🦋🦋🦋
thank ýou for your help
Omg! THIS IS SO ME IF I COULD EXPRESS MYSELF
Thank you for this video. I’ve been struggling really hard with depression for the past few months. It’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Keep persevering. The light is around the corner. Take a look at my video called, when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel
Here is the video on what you can do when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you enjoy it.
ua-cam.com/video/lNbitatc6YI/v-deo.html
Μaking a plan is good but its hard to do stuff. To feel motivated to keep doing something and not give up.
Thanks, Douglas. Another source of hope is knowing the meds will kick in. For me it's generally 4-6 weeks. Sometimes even less. In the meantime, I have low energy, feelings of withdrawal and poor self-talk. One must realize your thinking is distorted. Doug's idea of do not isolate is helpful, though when low, people like me tend to ruminate, that is, continually think over and over about your problems and how badly you feel. Pushed myself to attend a family youth basketball game, and lost my low feelings by visiting with family and a few acquaintences. Took my mind off my worries and distracted me. Douglas seems to have a strong support team. Some of us do not, so this can be challenging. I try to follow what's worked for me before: music thru my ipod, exercise and seeing people. It's OK, I think, to slow down and put less pressure on yourself, too.
Sounds like you have some good coping skills. Your last point is excellent. I have seen people put far too much pressure on themselves to perform when they are depressed, and the results are usually not very good. It’s better to be gentle with yourself and to be patient until you have a better mood and more energy
I’m 13 and I struggle with depression and what helps me the most is to go to gymnastics. It’s really the only thing that helps me get out of my sadness for a couple hours. Thanks for this video it really helps because I’m scared to talk to my parents about it.
Thanks for writing. If you look at the top five things to do if you are depressed, part two, I talk about exercise
...dear young lady, how are you now, i have just saw your post, ... where do you live? i hope you have find the way, and strenght, and support to be better...you are so young, i really hope that you have had support and help , and understanding you needed in those times...i am 49, and live in Serbia (my name is Snezana, and nickname Nensi)...i wish you all the best🌹🍀
THE LORD BLESS YOU MR DOUGLAS. .. YOU ARE TRUELY ANOINTED GIFTED AND EQUIPPED BY THE LORD TO HELP PEOPLE IN JESUS PRECIOUS NAME.
Another helpful video, thank you :)
Thanks
I’m glad this video didn’t have annoying music in the background.
Your suggestions are good, but right now we are in stuck at home because of the corna virus.
I hope that you can apply some of the suggestions at home. The other videos that I made. Once the virus receipts we will be able to go outside again
Dr. you are an amazing person, with a golden heart. I've been watching your videos and they are more helpful than my own therapist. I see now the light the end of the tunnel even though it looks very far from me but, at least now I feel like I will get better. I always tell people those suffered what you are suffering now can understand you better than those have no idea what is to be depressed. My goal in life was to lose weight and I lost over 140 pounds but I feel so miserable... I don't know why. When I was fat I wasn't happy but at least I was happier and now I can't find joy in life.
I’m not quite sure that weight loss contributed to your melancholy. Perhaps you were having about of clinical depression. Have you talk to a psychiatrist or a therapist about this. As I have stated, depression is a treatable condition. I’ve had four major episodes and five hospitalizations and I am still alive and kicking on my 71st birthday.
RonaldBarone you are not alone I feel like I don’t enjoy life at all. But I’m wanting to enjoy life again just not sure how to get there. You will beat depression.. we will beat depression 💛
Think you it was so helpful from a far away northeast 🇮🇳
I'll watch this again, maybe another two or three more times. Yes, this too may pass. Maybe.
Just discovered your channel! Thank you!
You’re welcome
Thank yo such a calming kind vouce😁💚
You’re welcome
@@DouglasBloch aww thanks i see you reply to all your comnents whats really nice
Too good sir
You r a gem.
thank you
For "the Placebo effect", I wish I can focus enough to know "what I wish to achieve". Matter of fact, I can't think anything to wish or hope for.
You might want to watch my video called set the intention to heal. You can whisper small things, such as feeling just a tiny bit better
Thank u 💓
You're welcome.
Some people live nowhere near a gym or may not even have a friend. The best advice for exercise is right at home. Start by running or marching in place for 30 seconds. You can build on it or lower it as you see fit. Try to do this a few times a day or during commercials or at set times. Maybe take a stroll around the building you live in or just a walk to the next corner and back gradually going farther. I hope everyone feels better.
Thanks for the tips
It's 11;30 pm Dec 31, 2017 I am doing the same thing for the last 10 years or so. Nothing not a fucking thing, In my bed watching these people on tv getting ready to celebrate the new year. People that tell it's all in my head all I have to do is get out and do something. That is easier said than done. These people will never understand what depression does to you. I have been fighting this shit my whole life. Eventually, depression is going to win. Without help, I can't stop it when that time comes. I will keep fighting it until the day I die.
Have you thought of joining a depression support group, which would provide a healing community. Also, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can be effective when antidepressants don't work.
Steve I'm with you. I having depression for few years now due to my relationship broke up and family, kids and financial hardship. I got helped from seeing psychologist for quite sometimes and slowly starting to work again. Then for some reason any job that I got in wouldn't last long only couple of weeks and that was not because I was bad at the job but it just something happened in workplace or something happened and causing me lost the job. Year 2018 I already had 5 jobs and all lost in couple of weeks, this freaked me out even more, it brought me into even more anxiety and depressed than I ever had before, and when this anxiety hits you there is nothing you can do, sometimes you even having fears just to open the door to see outside. I need help badly but not easy to see someone available to help you straight away when you don't have money to pay for the session which is cost $180 per hour
Steve Hedrick watching this video is a new start. Just being here you are doing something new and when u do something new you have a chance to get a different result
I've never liked New Year's Eve, even when I feel well.
In the years I've been depressed that day, I've googled "alone on new year's eve." It's amazing how many people are experiencing the same thing, and not just depressed people -- it's people who just moved to a new city and haven't made friends, people who hate crowds, people who are sick at home or in the hospital, etc. There is a lot of support to be found online.
My dysfunctional family is a big reason I am this way
I’m having trouble with isolation & exercise. And just engaging with the world. I have a therapist I’m on their waiting list... and I’m considering taking a antidepressant since I tried supplements. I need that boost in my mood.
If you were thinking of taking an antidepressant I hope you have a Doctor who knows about antidepressants.
Douglas Bloch I hope so too. He gave me escitaloprám aka Lexapro. Took my 1st one last night 🤞🏽 developed anxiety and depression from tragic events in my life so I’m hoping this gives me the boost to get out of this hole.
Verygood!
Thanks Debbie. If you know anybody who would like to support this channel, they can visit this website www.patreon.com/douglasbloch
well its about fucking time, i've been waiting for this video for a whole year from your other depression video! :P
Hope you like it. There there is also a part two
I'm doing my best at these things but in October 2020 I've been mostly isolated all year and it's taking its toll. I'm sleeping way too much and living alone, shut in, and social opportunities are really scarce with covid. Even though I should be, it's really hard to get motivated to exercise or even eat regularly.
A lot of us are going through the same thing. We have a gym in Portland called 24 hour fitness which is open partially. You can sign up for times to work out and also work with a trainer. You might want to try something like that where you live. I also have my friend Bicycle with me. Maybe you can find someone to take a walk with as long as you stay 6 feet apart
I used UA-cam’s open transcript feature to review and annotate your messages.
The word doc was saved and renamed as benevolent Douglas Bloch ^u^
as the "a benevolent part of the universe that will act to draw to yourself: the people the treatments and the support that you need to fulfill your desire to get well"
That sounds like a cool feature. How do you use it?
thanks Douglas great stuff again. I'm enjoying your book 😎
Great. What chapter are you on?
Douglas Bloch I dip in and out of it. (feels guilty for not studying it linearly!)
You don't have to study the book linearly. If a topic speaks to you in the moment, then read about it.
Douglas Bloch what helps me most is reading your experience and knowing I'm not alone in that battle. I nod and smile everytime I read it 😎
I'm glad the book affirms your experience. I wasn't smiling at the time I went through the depression, but I am smiling now, feeling grateful that I made it to the other side.
