When everything's working as it should the spacers keep things tight enough to roll smoothly without binding. But as the races wear down due to use or insufficient, the wrong kind of or dried grease, the spacers need to be slightly thinner to keep things smooth, otherwise play develops which accelerates wear. The trick is to find thinner spacers that aren't too much thinner. We're talking tenths of a mm here. I had to fabricate my own spacer out of an old washer as I couldn't find the right sized one. Worked great and all play is gone with very smooth action. Btw, best to oil and not grease the pawls as they might stick if it gets too cold. Grease is for the ball bearings. Also would be nice to let people know what solvents you used to clean everything. I used mineral spirits.

Free hub bearing cone. No chance of buying one of them, fhb spares are unavailable as they are not intended for service. Even if you could find one it would be pot luck on the thread size and intended bearing size etc. Replace the entire unit, they’re very cheap. If the hub is unbranded it’s most likely formula.
Indeed, it is very difficult to find a cup for the sleeve and freehub separately. You can still buy a complete freehub from Shimano, but from noname manufacturers you have to completely re-spoke the wheel😿

Most formula hubs fitted to the lower end are all loose ball. Shimano are keeping cup and cone for some of their high end road sets but everything else moving to sealed. Virtually every sealed free hub is loose bearings, so almost everyone not on a dt Swiss, hope, ck, i9 etc is on loose ball.

You'll have to go to a bike shop maybe and ask them. And you never know--they might even have a spare bearing cone laying around if they're any good.

2:02 do not use magnet on bearings because it becomes magnetic and all broken metallic parts will stick on it and make more damage
we will think about it
I get your logic, but would the grease be any better keeping the metal flakes out?
@@jurikristjouw that is one of grease function ,but if metalic parts are attracted on balls, grease can not do much
How many modern freehubs use loose bearings? Not many. Fixing those up is a bit of a lost art. Good job on that one though.

Thank you for your response. Most cyclists who are not athletes in their everyday life have freehubs with loose balls in their bikes.
@@GoodBicycle Actually, I would suspect that they have freewheels with loose ball bearings...
Yeah, that happens too.

Excesso de graxa começa a dificultar o retorno das travas. Elas colam. Demoram a voltar. Tempo suficiente pra pular um dente às vezes.
Mais manutenção e menos graxa. O segredo desse sistema.
