      Meine Frage wäre, ob du zukünftig immer auch die verwendeten Fette mit aufführst?! Für die kleinen Kugeln sollte man eher ein Fett mit Öl und evtl PTFE als Mischung nehmen.

    This is the coolest repair I have seen on the web for years. I´m bicycle mechanic for 27 years in Germany and have not worked at one shop, which has done these repairs ever,
    but for my personal choice I have done this kind of repairs since the late 1990s . A true mechanic tries on his/her own and then rides their stuff - what else.
    Working reality in Germany after the 2000s is boring as hell - it´s mainly about earning money quick and dirty ! That´s because high technology equals in high costs for less work !!!

      @@GoodBicycle I understand, but really hate that. I probably undercharge as a hobby mechanic, putting in 10 hours on 1 bike, just to change the brake pads and brake oil...

    Mystery metal again. I couldn't figure out where it came from. That wouldn't be the first time. That happens with these mystery hubs. I've found that grease mixed with automatic transmission fluid ( 1 part grease 3 parts ATF.) works well it will keep tha pawls from getting sticky and stays inside. You can use grease for that race at the base of the free hub. Some on the pawls and ratchet ramps and place the outer over it. Throw someof the mixture in the outside race put the remaining bearings in and cover with a generous amount more. That will last a long time and the detergents in the ATF will keep it clean. That mixture works well in shift levers and any kind of derailleur/brake pivots. Keep up the good work 🙏.

    When everything's working as it should the spacers keep things tight enough to roll smoothly without binding. But as the races wear down due to use or insufficient, the wrong kind of or dried grease, the spacers need to be slightly thinner to keep things smooth, otherwise play develops which accelerates wear. The trick is to find thinner spacers that aren't too much thinner. We're talking tenths of a mm here. I had to fabricate my own spacer out of an old washer as I couldn't find the right sized one. Worked great and all play is gone with very smooth action.
    Btw, best to oil and not grease the pawls as they might stick if it gets too cold. Grease is for the ball bearings. Also would be nice to let people know what solvents you used to clean everything. I used mineral spirits.

      @@GoodBicycle I now have a problem I would like your opinion on if I may, three shims came off, three shims went back on, but, on tightening the top notch race the cassette binds up, the tighter the race is, the unmovable the cassette is, almost needs another shim to give clearance - but that will reduce the amount of thread for the top notch race to catch on
      I just do not know how this can be, it's simple stuff really, any ideas please ?

    Awesome job sir! In the process myself as we speak, man that thing is on tight!!! It took 2 custom build tools and an impact screwdriver to persuade it to open up for me. I just miss the magnet and toothbrush (poor kids ;-)) That one stubborn ball bearing wanted to stay in, the little devil! Thankfully I do have a lovely wife, who found all 25 bottom bearings which ALL fell out of the neat little box after cleaning. Positive side, no mess anymore underneath the couch and subwoofer. I see that they actually put in 3 pawns on some models :-) Thanks for showing!

    Hello! Do you know the technical name for this type of hub? I'm in need of the piece you removed at 1:37 (mine broke), but I don't know its name, and whenever I Google "Shimano hub", or "Shimano freehub", I only can find the more modern type, which only need a big allen key to disassemble... Thanks!!

    • @MrJx4000
      @MrJx4000 11 місяців тому +1

      I don't think you can buy that piece at all (it's called the "bearing cone"). You'd have to buy the whole freehub but even those are no longer available from Shimano if that's your brand. You might find one from a supplier online that has some unsold inventory and replace that freehub completely. I bought a spare hub from a community bike shop just to have a spare freehub before they become altogether unavailable.

    • @borisnot
      @borisnot 11 місяців тому +1

      @@MrJx4000yeah, I figured that wouldn't be easy. Do you know the name of this kind of hub, though? I can't find any reference to it, other than disassembling tutorials, but no specific name for the system on which to cling on to search for one...Thanks!

    • @MrJx4000
      @MrJx4000 11 місяців тому +1

      @@borisnot, you're asking about wheel hub itself, right? If there's no name imprinted on the outer shell, then it's anybody's guess. However, they probably used a freehub from Shimano. You'll have to go to a bike shop maybe and ask them. And you never know--they might even have a spare bearing cone laying around if they're any good.

    • @AnotherMrLizard
      @AnotherMrLizard 11 місяців тому +2

      Free hub bearing cone. No chance of buying one of them, fhb spares are unavailable as they are not intended for service. Even if you could find one it would be pot luck on the thread size and intended bearing size etc. Replace the entire unit, they’re very cheap. If the hub is unbranded it’s most likely formula.

    • @GoodBicycle
      @GoodBicycle  11 місяців тому +1

      Indeed, it is very difficult to find a cup for the sleeve and freehub separately. You can still buy a complete freehub from Shimano, but from noname manufacturers you have to completely re-spoke the wheel
