    Fantastic Tute! Learning lots here. I have noticed that quite often the thinest shim is on the top of the stack & it's the easiest damaged one. I try to put it back in the middle of the stack.

    The pawls and teeth of the drum were not lubricated. I advise you to lubricate the pawls not with thick grease, but with liquid transmission grease, and lubricate the drum teeth with it. And all the little balls. True, excess lubricant likes to flow out of the drum - this is a drawback. Thick calcium lubricant is not bad - but any thick lubricant creates a delay in the trigger operation and the hook may slip, this is not pleasant, especially at temperatures of 0 and in the cold.

    Just to clarify, there's a difference between a freewheel, & a freehub! This is a freehub. You might want to edit/change the title of this video..., 👍 or delete it & reupload it if you can't change that.

    1:59 these outer spokes are scratched from the chain and they are the most loaded on the rear wheel and should have been laced on the inside to protect them from chain damage

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  Місяць тому +1

      This hub is already flawed from the manufacturer.

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss Місяць тому

      It is impossible to have the outer spokes on the inside; it is only possible to change the direction in which the outer spokes radiate from the hub. The only courses of action are to replace the damaged spokes, and use a spoke protector to help prevent future damage.

    • @makantahi3731
      @makantahi3731 Місяць тому

      @@trekkeruss you didn't understand what I'm trying to explain: when making a wheel, those spokes can be on the outside or inside, it's purely a matter of choice, but only one is right. those spokes should have been inside and the ones inside should have been outside, without changing the direction, just changing the side, and it is important because, in addition to carrying weight, these spokes also transmit the force from the pedals, and since the spokes on the right side of the wheel are always stronger screwed, these spokes should be protected from damage from the chain, and their angle is less curved, so when they are installed from the inside, they are less stressed than if they were on the outside

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss Місяць тому +1

      @@makantahi3731 Having built hundreds of wheels, I used to build them the way you are advocating, but switched when it became apparent to me that a dropped chain is further wedged in when the pulling spokes are laced heads out. Also with the pulling spokes heads in, there is more support for the elbow at the flange, which may help with fatigue. Whatever the case, I have not noticed any difference in overall wheel stiffness or strength with either method, at least if the wheel has been build with good and even tension.

    • @makantahi3731
      @makantahi3731 Місяць тому

      @@trekkeruss I didn't say that the spokes should now be turned, I said that the spokes should be on the opposite sides and that is the only possible way when the wheel is being assembled, by the way I have also assembled almost 1000 wheels and these little things do not affect globally, but in some situations and that marginal gain can decide and it is better to have the wheel made as best it can be

    What cleaning product (05:30) and solvent (06:00) do you use ?

    Do you think this operation could be achieved with regular, non-dedicated tools ?

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  25 днів тому +2

      Thank you for your comment.
      At 5:30 in the sprayer is car engine cleaner, 6:00 is refined gasoline, we call it "kalosha", so I understand that the analogue is camping gasoline or white spirit. To unscrew the freehub, you need to find a freehub body removal tool, as you can't open it with improvised tools

    Great video, but much more interesting would be the information on how to get the axle out. I can only loosen the locking nut on the brake disc side. I can't loosen the nut on the freewheel side because I can't fix the axle in place. Do I just have to punch it through? Thx 😁 ok auf deutsch wäre es auch gegangen 🤦‍♂️

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you for your comment. If you clamp the axle in a vice, you can damage the thread. It's probably better not to remove the nut and cone on the other side, but to leave it as it is. You can also replace the entire axle with the cones. It is quite cheap

    • @NiceBikeService
      @NiceBikeService  Місяць тому

      If these freehubs were universal, then the life of a bike mechanic would be simplified 😸.You can find freehubs for more expensive hubs on sale separately and they are different for each hub model. Therefore, you have to repair freehubs on cheap hubs

    • @trekkeruss
      @trekkeruss Місяць тому

      It is fast swapable. This video is of a Shimano hub. The freehub body is affixed to the hub shell with a 10mm hex bolt. So this process of disassembly is only of interest to someone who does not want to waste a “serviceable” component, or has no access to getting a new one. However, if it is disassembled and found to have worn or broken parts, you end up replacing it anyway, which is why this type of service is not usually recommended by most professional mechanics.
