Honestly I don't think it's an upgrade at all. As a matter of fact the picture is a lot darker on the 4K compared to the Blu-ray and the HDR colours do nothing. As you said it's the special features that will win people over. It's a shame
I have it on DVD on the Paramount Widescreen Collection. Nice to hear that DVD still has a place in this age of 4K Ultra. Christ! Paramount. I think you better apply for a job a Paramount Keith. Stunning money. Nice home in Beverly Hills. Get limousined into the studio, and get re-grading some of Paramount's worse offending botch jobs. Just make certain you send us all a postcard when you finally arrive in film nirvana. Cheers Keith!
I never thought I would be recommending a DVD especially during the 4K era. But I mean every word of it. It's the best way to see this movie because it's the most faithful presentation out there. Unfortunately I have certain standards and I don't think I could ever work for Paramount 😅. There a lost company in my eyes and they will never learn. It's one thing to to do what they done to this transfer but to do it twice is borderline crazy. Things like this shouldn't happen especially for one of the greatest 80s comedies you're ever likely to see. It's a real shame. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out.
Hello, I think the word is out, hahaha. I was at my local Best Buy and there were probably 6 to 8 movies of Plans and Trains just sitting there. I'm in Oregon too. I past up on it myself. That's to bad. Thank you for the review.
Hey Joel. Well that's a sign if you ever want to see one when it comes to a bad 4K transfer when you start seeing your local best buy filling up with them. It's such a shame because I'm a huge fan of both of these movies and they deserve so much better. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend. I hope you're doing well
Thanks for the review, my copy of Planes, Trains and Automobiles arrived over the weekend but after your insight, I think a return is in order. Great channel and even more impressive collection by the way👍
Apologies for putting you off your release. The one thing I will say though is the hour of extended and deleted scenes that u get with this release are quite brilliant and for that reason I think it's worth keeping. It's a shame Paramount didn't put in as much effort into the 4K transfer as they clearly did with the special features. Thank you so much for the incredibly kind words. I really appreciate that.
So happy I passed on this 4k but did upgrade my "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" DVD to Blu-ray for only $5.99 a few weeks ago. It's gonna be tuff to do without the extras on the 4k release but why reward Paramount for doing a bad job.
I wish I actually had the sense that you have. It is nice to get those special features but very hard to justify the price for just special features. It's a shame paramount didn't put as much effort into the 4K transfer as they clearly did with the special features. It's a shame because the movie deserves so much better than this. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
@@millerman9991 Been a subscriber for a long time and ain't going anywhere- you've got a genuine passion for what you do here on UA-cam that's an absolute joy to watch...entertaining, informative, and original!
Wow I honestly can't tell you how much that means to me and I really do appreciate that. I am incredibly passionate about what I collect and I also strive to be better when it comes to my UA-cam channel and honestly reading comments like this massively help. So thank you so much for that
It's unbelievable how some studios still to this day can screw up some of their releases. You'd think that when they put out a 4k release that's supposed to enhance your viewing experience, they'd do everything to get it right. Thanks for the heads up Keith.
What kills me with Planes Trains is the fact that Paramount have done it twice to this movie. Do not understand how they keep getting away with this and the one saving grace is the fact that I get those incredible special features of never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes. It's a shame they didn't put as much effort into the transfer. Thanks again Sebastian for stopping by. I hope you're doing well
Hey Keith, I hope your well brother. I'm so glad with this review as I've had planes trains in basket for over a week now. Gonna stick with my bluray, the special features would be the only reason for the upgrade. Look forward to the next one😁
Hey Chris. Doing great my friend and I hope all is well with yourself. Honestly if you have the Blu-ray to Planes Trains stick with it. Other than a few special features you are getting nothing else. It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better than this mess. Thanks for checking it out
great review we need more people on youtube to review/warn consumers about these poor releases! I feel your pain was taken many times back in the dvd & blu-ray era (It’s odd these huge studio 4k are released so bad! 😢😢😢
Hey Jason. It's one of those things where I wish I didn't have to do videos like this because in a perfect world every 4K disc would look well PERFECT. But I do feel it's only right that when it does go wrong like this that I should put out some sort of warning and save people some money and from the sounds of things it seems to have worked. Its one thing for paramount to do this on Planes Trains and Automobiles but to do it twice is borderline crazy and they shouldn't be able to get away with it. I think 4K releases should have a certain standard that needs to be met before released. Unfortunately that will never happen. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
Apologies for being the bearer of bad news but I couldn't keep quiet on this one unfortunately. The only thing I will say is the hour of deleted scenes that you do get with this are quite brilliant and I'm almost tempted to tell you to pick it up for that reason alone. But I will leave it up to you my friend
Hey Neil. Paramount Strikes Again my friend and I cannot believe they've done it for a second time with this movie. I didn't even know there was a Steelbook for the 4K release and just as well because I would have picked it up and that would have been more money unnecessarily spent. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful movie and it deserves better. I question whether we will ever get a good release for this movie. Thanks so much for stopping by
Such a shame about these releases!!! Especially Planes, trains and automobiles 😵💫😵💫🤬🤬 I've heard nothing but bad things about it!! I was waiting to hear what you thought about it till I finally saw your review! Cheers you've saved me £20!!! I just picked up thr dvd the other day and its quite an exceptable looking release!! Thanks for the heads up Keith 👍👍👍
Well John we spoke about this together already and I choose to ignore all the other reviews because I love the movie so much and I was wrong. The good news is at least I was able to get over an hour of deleted scenes on Planes Trains and Automobiles that I've never seen before and they're actually quite brilliant. So at least that is something. I still can't get over the fact that paramount have done it twice to this movie. They will never listen and I think there should be a standard when it comes to 4K releases and how they should look. It's a real shame but thanks for stopping by and checking it out John
You're not the only one my friend. It's a shocking looking 4k transfer and it's a real shame because this movie deserves so much better than what we got here. Thank you so much for taking the time to check it out. I really appreciate it
first time viewer and immedietly i hear the assault on precint 13 music and then the irish accent, irish myself from limerick and just started collecting last year, recently i bought first blood, the thing and predator all 4k uhd, planes trains was on my list too, not now, just subbed man and looking forward to your next uploads, cheers man.
Hey John. Thank you so much for stopping by and always great to talk to a fellow Irishman and a fellow collector. I live in Meath myself. The thing is probably one of my favourite movies of all time and it got such a stunning 4K release. One of my favourite 4K transfers as well. Planes Trains looks horrible. It never once felt like a 4K transfer. It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies. It does have some great features though. I have to give it that. Thank you so much for the sub as well and please don't be a stranger. Need help with anything please let me know.
@@millerman9991 cheers man, I’ll check out some of your other recommendations, great review btw, also added assault on precinct 13 to my list, best of luck with your channel.
I couldn't agree more Mike. Honestly I think there should be a certain standard that needs to be met when it comes to releasing a 4K edition. Holiday Inn was very underwhelming but Planes Trains is one of the most ridiculous looking for 4k transfers I've ever seen. It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies from the 80s and it deserves better than this
Honestly never heard of Wallapop if I'm completely honest. I will definitely check it out and I think you'll be very interested to hear that I am going to be doing an unboxing of a very old DVD set that I have in my collection that I've never shown before. It's very fitting for this time of year. You're very right though I think I should be looking towards some of my DVD editions and doing some videos on them and thank you so much for the recommendation. I really appreciate that
@@millerman9991 It´s a second-hand online shop for people who want to get rid of stuff. I don´t know if this is a Spanish company but there´s also an Italian Wallapop version and Italians and Spaniards can both buy from any seller from both sides of the Mediterranean. I have bought quite a few limited dvd editions here over the past year for very reasonable prices but it takes time to search for a good bargain on items in perfect conditions.
Wow that sounds amazing and thanks again for the heads up on this and I am going to go on it tonight and check it out. I don't mind spending some time trying to hunt down certain items
No problem at all Patrick. It's a real shame that this movie cannot seem to get the transfer that it deserves. Hopefully someday it will happen. Thanks for stopping by my friend
Of course I feel let down. The last thing you want to be doing is paying big money for 4K releases and then seen them getting terrible transfers. The good news is I bought these from Amazon so I can return them. But it is a shame especially for movies Like These that deserves so much better.
Do the extended and deleted scenes get the same shoddy treatment? I find deleted scenes are often presented “as is”, as they are usually not worth restoring. So ... are they better quality than the actual film in this case?!
Can I just ask what happens to ur collection if tomorrow u just suddenly die(e.g u get run over by a bus, u get a heart attack, u get a break in and robbers wipe u out)? Does someone in ur family inherits it, does it go to auction and then the proceed goes to charity, does one of ur surviving family member sells them and pockets the money, do u have them written in ur will, OR CAN IT JUST COME TO ME SO MY COLLECTION CAN GET BIGGER?
That is actually a great comment. Honestly I never actually thought of it before. I'm sure it would go to my fiance. But God forbid if anything happens to me or my fiance I see what I can do for you 😆 🤣.
Hey James. It is by no means the worst looking 4K transfer I have seen but it's massively underwhelming especially if you have that Blu-ray. I'm not kidding there is no difference when it comes to the transfer. The Blu-ray looks better because the grain is a lot more consistent. It's a real shame
Hey Roy. I felt it was only right to warn people about releases like this. Holiday Inn was underwhelming but Planes Trains is downright deplorable and it's shocking that Paramount have done this again. Thanks for stopping by my friend
I think it all depends on how HDR is implemented. Sometimes particularly on comedies it can be overly aggressive and there's no need for it. I never thought to do my favourite Blu-ray list before and I think that sounds like a great idea for a video. Thanks for the recommendation Jeff. I really appreciate it
I have to agree when I was watching Holiday in I thought I was watching a DVD or A bad blu-ray copy. I haven’t seen planes, trains and automobiles yet.
Hey Carlos. It's such a shame because like I said it's a beloved Christmas Classic and it deserves so much better. Planes Trains is way worse. Don't waste your time with it. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my video. All the best my friend
Hi Keith, when I saw your thumbnail, I knew Planes, Trains And Automobiles was going to feature, so many people are complaining about the DNR, didn’t know it was a similar thing with Holiday Inn, nice an informative mate, take care👍😀👍
Yeah no surprise that Planes Trains was going to feature in this video. I still can't get over the fact that Warner Brothers have done this twice to this movie. Holiday Inn was very underwhelming. It doesn't look anywhere near as horrible as Planes Trains. But when it comes to Holiday Inn if you have the Blu-ray stick with it. It actually looks better. Thanks again for stopping by Alan
Hey Keith hope alls well really appreciate the heads up because I was actually gonna get planes trains and automobiles on 4k 😅 and just catching up on your last few videos was under the weather recently but as always another great video my friend and you take care
Hey Shane. It's the least I can do to put out a warning to all of you to avoid these movies like the plague. It's a real shame because like I said I'm a massive fan of both of these movies particularly Planes Trains and to see it get this treatment again is borderline crazy and I think paramount have a lot to answer for. My videos will always be here Shane and and I really do appreciate you checking them out and I hope you're feeling better my friend. All the best
Hi Keith. Thanks for another great couple of reviews. I was just wondering how it was going with your order of The Thing from FilmArena? The last I heard was that you were still waiting for it to be shipped. Mine too, so I wrote them an email yesterday to hear what was going on with my order. To my pleasant surprise, I received three emails from them today saying that it’s being prepared for shipment, being shipped, and lastly with a tracking number. Seems they must have lost my order somehow. Looking forward to receiving it soon. Hope you will too!! Cheers, Mark
Hey Mark. Thanks so much for letting me know about your filmarena edition of the thing because I've heard nothing from them. I sent them an email 4 days ago and they haven't replied and I don't know what's going on. Rest a shore after hearing what happened to you I will contact them again and see what happens. I've never seen such messing when it comes to a release and I will make sure never to pre-order anything from them again. I will definitely keep you informed
@@millerman9991 Yes, I thought I’d just share that with you, as I know you’re a big big fan of The Thing, like myself. Crossing my fingers that you’ll hear back from them soon!
@@millerman9991 Hi Keith. Sorry, I thought I'd replied to you already. Just saw I hadn't 😳 I just sent them a simple email. UPDATE! I just received my package from FilmArena this morning with The Thing!! It's a real beauty and quite heavy too! My one has number 0542 out of 1000. Hope you get yours soon!!
Hey Mark. Great to hear that you got yours through the door. I had mine sent 3 days ago. I did what you said I email them and the next day it was dispatched. It's almost like they forgot. But it's coming now and that's the important thing
Wow that is very kind of you and thank you so much for that. Assault on Precinct 13 is one of my favourite John Carpenter themes and I was always going to use it for my UA-cam channel. Thank you so much for stopping by
I was hoping it was going to get a 4K release before the sequel comes out but that's definitely not happening. Fingers crossed when the sequel comes out on 4K next year maybe they might do the original as well
I'm just starting to dip my toe into 4K's and Planes Trains was one I immediately ordered. I don't know exactly what to look for in a good transfer just yet. I may just stick to watching my DVD (never bought the blu-ray).
Please don't let me put you off your pre-order. That's the one problem when it comes to DNR it can sometimes fool people thinking they're watching a good 4K transfer when they're not. Just give yourself some time and you will start to notice what is good and what is bad when it comes to 4k.
@@millerman9991 I actually did end up buying it. And my only negative thing that I saw, was during the scene when the car is on fire. At least on my TV which at the time I hadn't messed with any picture settings, but it made their faces look like they were tomatoes, so red. Other than like you mentioned being a tad dark in places, it was just meh. Nothing extraordinary. I definitely wouldn't seek it out and buy it again. 😂
I always look at the positive side of things and at least with this release you were able to get all of those deleted and extended scenes that were never seen before for this movie and I had a fun time watching them. I think that's more than enough reason to own this release.
I honestly couldn't agree more and thank you so much for that. It's always great to get such positive feedback and if you have any questions about any other 4K releases please don't hesitate to ask
By the way I FINALLY purchased the Hunger Games steelbook boxset. Nice price in Italy right now but I noticed the American outer box and the Italian one are somewhat different. The Italian one not looking as sturdy as the stateside version 😄
I was always under the impression that the box set for The Hunger Games was a flimsy type of box set even the edition from the States. Now I could be completely wrong with that and I have to tell you it's not going to put me off buying it. I would have got it sooner but I have a few more editions from Amazon Italy coming and I didn't want to overspend. The Steelbooks I think look amazing and hopefully I can pick it up soon. Thank you so much for stopping by
Hey Joe. It's my absolute pleasure my friend and sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It's heartbreaking because Planes Trains is one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better
Well, I preordered Planes Trains because I adore this movie. I echo your review with this addition - the very final scene (where Del smiles) was always a heart-melter for me … on this release it broke my heart. There was some weird digital artefacts going on, and totally removed me from the moment! Deleted scenes were terrific to see though, answered some questions I had about certain scenes.
Hey Richard. I choose to ignore all the reviews when It came to this movie on 4k that's how much I love it and I kind of wish I listened. I completely agree with what you said when it comes to the end of this movie and like you said some very strange artefacts going on and it's amazing how easily it can take you out of a movie even if it is the end of it. It's such a beautiful scene and it gets me every time and the last thing you want is to be emotionally pulled out of it because of a poor transfer. Honestly I cannot believe paramount have done this again to this movie. It deserves so much more than this and the only saving grace is the fact that we got all those deleted scenes and I probably will keep this edition for that reason. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
Another scene that really bugged me, was when he’s queuing, just before he drops all those glorious 'F Bombs' - He should look completely battered, compared to her pristinely set hair & makeup. Instead he looks like his makeup is smudged and all the holiday glow from her is gone. Every now & then they’d tease you with a bit of clarity, and then smudge it all away - very inconsistent DNR that just keeps reminding you what they’ve done. At least T2 blitzed the entire film, this variation in application just makes you say “and again! and again! 😡”. Like I said, I ADORE this movie, heard about the 4K AND 75 minutes of deleted material, and was SO looking forward to it. Now there’s a butt load of extras, I’m hoping Criterion, or equivalent get their hands on it and do the film justice. … … ok, I’m done ranting now 🤣 Looking forward to Pulp Fiction next week, loved the Reservoir Dogs 4K, so this should be ok also.
To be honest Richard I struggled to find one good seen during this movie. Now I don't know if that's just me giving up after seeing the first half hour of this movie and losing interest on the 4K transfer. I always try to find positives when it comes to buying releases like this and at least we do have that hour of extended footage that I never seen before and I rather enjoyed it. So at least that is something. Thanks again Richard and I look forward to seeing Pulp Fiction on 4k.
Honestly it kills me to put out videos like this particularly from movies like Planes Trains because it's one of my favourite comedies of all time. It's a shame that it's gotten this kind of treatment and it really deserves better. Thank you so much for stopping by and apologies for being the bearer of bad news
Hi Keith My 4k just arrived today. Unfortunately I sold my Blu-ray copy a few weeks ago so I'll be stuck with the 4k. I had a quick skip through it and didn't look too bad but I'll maybe give it a full watch later tonight. I'm hoping it's not as bad as you experienced but you're normally spot on with your reviews. It's sad how these studios think everyone hates grain so they use DNR to make it look like Madame Tussauds. Loved the stream last week, hopefully won't be long to the next one 💯
Hey Peter. I really do hope I didn't put you off your release and hopefully you can get more from it than I did. The one saving grace is you get over an hour of deleted and extended scenes that was never seen before and I think it's worth having just for them alone. It seems like every single frame of this movie has been DNR and I cannot believe paramount have done that again. If you didn't like the Blu-ray that you had before there's a good chance you're not going to like this one unfortunately Peter. Thank you so much for stopping by the stream and I'm sure it won't be long till I'm on another one again. All the best my friend
@@millerman9991 Keith you're absolutely right. I gave it a watch got about an hour and ended up turning it off. Worst 4k disc for me. Looks like I'm watching an old PS2 video game at times. So sad as it's one of my favourites. I'll be sending an email to Paramount. Unlikely but perhaps with enough support they could recall the disc. I think the best chance for us if a boutique label was able to acquire the rights and do a proper restoration or if not use whatever print is available and turn the DNR off.
A few people have said the exact same thing to me that hopefully some sort of Boutique label will get hold of this movie and give it the transfer that it definitely deserves. I'm going to put in a complaint to myself to paramount and hopefully I can leave a link to this video as well. I still cannot believe they done it twice to this movie. I think there should be a certain standard that every 4K disc has to hit before getting released. In a perfect world that's exactly how it would be. It's a shame we don't live in a perfect world
This film companies only interested in their streaming services - no interest in physical media! I'd heard of others reviews but still bought today 25% off hmv so I could see deleted scenes. Goat comedy imo
I heard all the negative reviews about Planes Trains before even buying it myself and I couldn't help but pick it up because I love the movie so much and just like you I wanted to see those deleted scenes as well. At least you were able to get 25% off. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
Thanks Keith! Planes, Trains & Automobiles 4K probably has to be the biggest disappointment for me this year. I've not watched the 4K, but I've been on the fence getting it, but your review has definitely solidified it for me! Won't be picking it up! And it's a shame, because it has so much potential to look great in 4K!
Hey Mike. If it were any other company we would have had a Solid 4k transfer. But unfortunately it is paramount we are talking about here and like I said there probably one of the worst companies when it comes to physical Media. It never once felt like I was watching a 4K disc. It felt like a very poor Blu-ray if I'm completely honest and this movie deserves so much more. If you have the previous Blu-ray or even a DVD there is no point picking up the 4K. The one saving grace is that I was able to get over an hour of deleted and extended scenes that I never seen before and it's the only reason to pick up this release of it. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend.
@@millerman9991 Yeah I'll just stick to the DVD. Like you say, the DVD is probably the most faithful presentation of the movie! Those deleted scenes are definitely a huge selling point, but I'm sure I'll see them at some point! 👍
Thanks for the warning. I'm not going to buy these. And it's not uncommon to say, but there are just a few comedies with a good 4K transfer and it's also a genre that is still fine to watch on blu ray or even dvd haha. I'm looking forward to the next vid.
That's actually a very good point you made their Robert when it comes to comedies and 4K transfers. Unfortunately when it comes to Planes Trains I have to recommend checking out the DVD. The Blu-ray is just as bad as the 4K transfer and I think the DVD would offer a more stable presentation as ridiculous as that sounds. I can't believe I'm recommending a DVD. It's a testament to help poor this movie looks on Blu-ray and 4k. Thanks for checking it out Robert. Hopefully I can save you a few shillings
I wish all the studios would give us a 4k disc and bluray of the movie. I was gutted when war of the worlds came and it didn't have a bluray. I haven't upgraded to 4k yet but I want to future proof my collection by getting 4 k discs with blurays included. Planes trains was the same great special features shit transfer and no bluray of the movie either gggrrr
I absolutely agree with you Ben. Normally that would never be in issue you would always get a Blu-ray with the 4K release. But things in the last year has started to change and they only seem to be including a 4K disc and of course charging the same price minus the Blu-ray. To be honest Ben I can see Planes Trains dropping in price very soon. Maybe look into picking it up then. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my video. All the best
PTAA was top of my pre-order list when it was first announced, but I held back especially with the likes of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were due out amongst a few others, I'm glad I did now but so disappointed to hear all the negativity about the quality, WTF are Paramount thinking of they have one of the biggest and best loved comedies from past 30+ yrs and they go and do this, you would like to think that somebody actually said ' we need to get this perfect for such an iconic movie' but NO, I shall probably still purchase it but will wait until HMV or Zavvi do a 2 for ££ or 3 for ££, great channel Keith keep up the good work
The shocking thing is paramount have done it for a second time with this movie because the Blu-ray is just as bad. I honestly do not understand it because as you said it's one of the most beloved 80s comedies of all time and to see it get this kind of treatment is truly baffling. I think it's worth picking up just for the hour of deleted scenes you get with this release. They are great fun to look at and if you can get this on the cheap sometime then I think you'll be doing well. Thanks so much Lee for stopping by and checking it out. I haven't picked up Reservoir Dogs yet but I've heard so many great things about it's transfer and I hope to get it very soon. All the best my friend

Hey Alexander. I just wanted to give you a heads up my friend but for some strange reason a lot of your comments are not coming through. There's an option on my account where you can check comments that are under review and your comments are always in there. So a massive apologies if I have not returned any comments back. I simply didn't know about them and I just wanted you to know
Before Thanksgiving, I watched planes, trains and automobiles on the streaming Paramont plus app, and I had the say It was a really good transfer beautiful colors and everything. Why wasn’t that transfer used on the 4K I don’t know. For movies that are Holiday movies that I only watch once a year I don’t find it necessary to buy on 4K I just stick with the Blu-ray’s unless they’re on sale then I might pick it up but for planes, trains and automobiles the only reason I wanted it was for the bonus disc that’s it cause I’ll never watch it on 4K.
This is so bizarre. Typical they put more effort into their paramount Plus app than the physical release. If anything it should be the opposite. It's strange but I don't see Planes Trains as a holiday movie. I watch it numerous times a year. It's a shame that It got such a terrible transfer. It's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves so much better than this. Thankfully the features are fantastic and it's almost makes it worth it in the end
That`s a relief - i`ve gone a bit mad on the buying front lately (DVD , Blu ray & 4K) and the throught i might have got an inferior disc was not great.
Hey Steve. If you own both of these movies on Blu-ray trust me stick with them. You are getting nothing with the 4K release. Glad I was able to help my friend
@@millerman9991 One of my favourite films - American werewolf in London (on blu ray) was such a crap picture I would thick twice before getting the 4K. Always disappointing when the people making the disc's don't do their best.
I have a 4K release of American Werewolf from a company called turbine who done the restoration themselves and I think as memory serves me it looks quite decent on 4k. Now I never picked up the arrow Video release of it so I don't know how that looks. Maybe look into the turbine edition
Hey Gary. Holiday Inn is a very underwhelming 4K transfer but Planes Trains is a downright horrific 4K transfer. Like I said in the video probably one of the worst 4K transfers you will see on the format and I have seen some bad transfers. I should have listened myself and save myself some money but I think I will be returning both of these sometime this week. It's a real shame
Hello From Montreal. You are so right. They suck big time. I work in the industry. I will try to start a complain on those 2 great movies that we love. Great Job on youre videos!
Wow this is the first time I've spoken to anyone from Montreal on my channel and a huge welcome my friend. It kills me to put out videos like this particularly for two beloved movies and they really do deserve better than what we got here. I would love to tell you that studios would listen but paramount have already done this once before with Planes Trains and now they've done it again. It really is a shame
@@millerman9991 I left this on Facebook plus at my Movie Representative at Paramount. Paramount. Please fix you're 4K or refund us our money! Best way to watch this is on VHS. And don't get me started on Holiday Inn. Jesus C! What a mess! Thank you
Hey Mark. I would rather not do videos like this because nobody wants to get poor 4K discs. But in this case I could not help myself and I needed to put out some sort of warning and from the sound of things it seems to have worked. Thank you for stopping by and checking it out
Never owned it on physical media before so I had already buy it, but didn't realise it was that bad... Definitely has a lot of DNR and waxiness about the characters skin tones, but at least we got a (upcoming) review out of it and some extras to check out
I always try to look at the positive side of releases like this and yes to get those hours of extended and deleted scenes is something. It's just a shame that paramount didn't put in the effort when it comes to the transfer itself. It's a shame because it's such a fantastic movie and it deserves better. Thank you so much for checking it out
I bought the new 4k of planes trains and automobiles. I must admit though. I really only purchased it for the special features. To be really honest at this current moment I do not even have a 4k player or TV.
I think a lot of people have done the same as yourself. As a matter of fact I could have easily Returned this back to Amazon but I decided to keep it just for the special features. It's a shame about the transfer because the movie deserves so much better
Assault on Precinct 13 is my favourite John Carpenter theme and I knew I was always going to use it when I started my UA-cam channel. Thank you so much for stopping by
Wow I honestly did not know that you got a slip cover with the American version. Thanks for the heads up on that. I might try and find it. The slipcover that is. I don't think I can own this movie again on 4K unfortunately
I have the biggest smile on my face after reading this comment. No as a matter of fact Planes Trains and Automobiles look like a masterpiece compared to Olympus is falling. I am so surprised that you actually remember my review of that. Fair play to you my friend
@@millerman9991 That surprises me, in a way that's a bit of a relief, lol. Of course, watched so many of your videos mate. Can't wait for the next one.
If there's a petition going around it's rightfully so. I am shocked that Paramount actually done it twice to this movie. I don't understand why they would repeat the same process on the 4K disc after so many complaints was put in for the Blu-ray and how that was treated. Thankfully I bought it from Amazon and I'm sending it right back. Thanks for stopping by Martin and checking it out
The quality of my basic dvd of The Burbs looks flawless compared to the blu ray Arrow version of it (the edition with the print copy of the movie) They brightened it up and made it grainy and a little bit washed out in the day time scenes and in the night scenes it's worse. Sometimes it's a case of if it isn't broken don't brighten it up. Sometimes hanging on to your dvds isn't a bad thing at all 👍👍
I wasn't a fan of The Burbs from arrow Video and how it looked. I ended up buying my Blu-ray from a company in Germany and thankfully the Blu-ray looked a hell of a lot better. But as you said sometimes it's better to keep your DVDs. In the case of Planes Trains and Automobiles if you have the DVD of that then you have the most faithful version of it when it comes to picture quality
@@millerman9991 I've thankfully kept my dvd of planes trains and automobiles, and after seeing your video I'm patting myself on the back 👍👍 Great channel
And so you should because this is a horrendous looking disc. It's a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves so much better than this
Apologies for that Gary. But I had to be completely honest. I didn't want to have to make this video but when you see this movie on 4K I felt it was only right that I put a warning out there and make people aware of it. It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better than this
great video and thank you for doing this and saying say away from them even thow i will not get them on any format at all as i not like any of the two films Planes, Trains And Automobiles was played a lot on tv when i was a kid and could not get on with it. them holiday inn i never seen
I don't normally like doing videos like this but I couldn't help myself in this case. People shouldn't have to spend their hard-earned money on garbage like this and if I'm able to put a warning out then that's exactly what I'll do. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out Danny. I really appreciate it
Thanks for that Keith. Youve helped us dodge a bullet there with these 2. I was contemplating picking up planes and trains too. Once again with the invaluable advice mate. Did you check out The Running Man yet? I assume its arrived by now?
The crazy thing is I actually check out the reviews and I choose to ignore them because I love the movie so much. I kind of wish I listened. But the good news is I was able to get over an hour of never-before-seen deleted scenes. At least that's something. I did get my running man through the door but I haven't checked it out yet. I'm sure I will feature in a video soon. Thanks again Chris for stopping by my friend. All the best
Hey Ben. Unfortunately they all look terrible. Honestly the DVD probably has the most faithful transfer. But if I had to choose one I would probably stick with this even though it looks horrible.
I’ve read on the HighDefDigest review that Planes, Trains is a marginally better film in 4K than the Blu-Ray. I have the Blu-Ray and think it looks really good. So I’m not totally put off. Plus, those extras seem worth it. I’ll likely be getting it next year. Depends what else releases then though.
Hey Matthew. If you're happy with your Blu-ray and how it looks then honestly I would recommend sticking with it. The 4K presentation looks a lot darker and you might prefer the brighter image on your Blu-ray. I think the real reason to why you would want to pick up the 4K is the special features. There actually fantastic. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my video. I really appreciate it
@@millerman9991 Well, I just re-read the HighDef Digest review and yeah I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. I’d get it for the extras for sure. But also I’m really curious to see the picture quality of the 4K for myself. But it’ll probably be next year. I already got Frozen, The Polar Express, Elf and Home Alone this year. So I think I’m good for the 4K Christmas movies for now. Can’t really justify more in the budget. Although I’m also considering Christmas Vacation for next year too. I have the Blu-Ray but most are recommending the 4K. Even if it’s not as good a transfer as expected. Again, depends what’s released next year though.
The only thing I'm going to say is every single person has given this movie a bad review on 4k and if you want to listen to what hi def digest says by all means do so and I'm hoping you will enjoy the 4K transfer. But in my opinion it's one of the worst looking 4k discs I've ever seen and I'm not quite sure what high def digest are seeing that the rest of us aren't. But as you said you didn't mind how your blu-ray looks and chances are you might get something from the 4K disc
@@millerman9991 Well, High Def Digest have yet to steer me wrong. So I tend to weight their opinions more heavily than others. They do note issues with it however. So it’s not like they’re saying it’s amazing like other transfers. It’s their lowest score for a 4K disc that I’ve seen. But they still recommend it. So yeah, I’m going to get it. Not just on their recommendation. But because I really want to see for myself if it’s as bad as everyone else is saying. Others also said the Blu-Ray of the film was really bad, yet I’ve had no issues with it. It actually looks really good to me. So I’m just saying if that’s any indication… I also want to say that their review of the animated The Lion King in 4K did put me off though. And the Blu-Ray of The Secret of NIMH and The Sword in the Stone. So it’s not like they haven’t stopped me from buying a movie before. But what they said about Planes, Trains seems like I’d have almost no issues with it.
Hi thanks for the Holiday Inn review I have been toying with the idea of upgrading this classic but I think after what you said I will stick with the Blu ray might pick it up if I ever see it half price but no guarantee.
Hey Roy. It really is a shame about holiday inn. It's a one of my favourite holiday classics and I was hoping for something so much better than this. Maybe if you can get on the cheap and see for yourself. But it is hard to recommend unfortunately. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out. I really appreciate it
@@millerman9991 hi could you help settle something for me. My work colleague is thinking about getting a 4k tv and player but doesn’t have the internet Can he still enjoy the 4k quality or do you need the internet. He has been told he will need an internet connection to enjoy it fully but I thought that unless you want to stream then 4k would play ok by playing a disc without a internet connection.
Hey Roy. Tell your work colleague he has nothing to worry about when it comes to the internet. The TV and Blu-ray player with work fine without the internet. The only time he will need the internet is when he's streaming content. It will not affect anything when it comes to his television and 4K player. Now that I think of it I don't have my television and 4K player connected to the internet
Thanks for that info reply that was exactly what I told him but after him saying that I thought I would ask someone like yourself who might know more than me but like you I have watched 4k discs without internet as mine isn’t always switched on.
Yes he has nothing to worry about. The only thing I will say though is a lot of televisions and 4K players do get firmware updates to make them better and that's when you do need the internet
Even on Blu-ray they never cared never mind the 4k. I didn't pick up the first Friday the 13th on 4K but I've heard they done a poor job on that as well. Typical paramount
Very sad like you are in relation two Planes trains ! I now have cancelled my Amazon US order and will stick with blu ray , that along with Christmas vacation are my Christmas Eve pick . Thanks Keith , hello from Phuket
It's heartbreaking. Planes Trains is without question one of my favourite comedies of all time and to see it get this kind of treatment is borderline ridiculous. I'm hoping someday some Boutique label will get hold of it and give it the transfer it deserves. I just watched Christmas vacation on 4K and I was so happy with it. I'm sure I'll be doing a review very soon on it. As always thank you so much for stopping by Conor.
I absolutely agree with everything you said. I think some sort of Boutique label needs to get hold of this movie and give it the transfer it deserves because paramount don't seem to be interested in doing anything to it. It's a real shame
Saturday Night Fever has similar issues with DNR on the 4K. It's unfortunate Paramount has had these issues lately. I thought The Running Man, The Untouchables, and Wayne's World all looked fine, so it's all the more disappointing.
Yes I only just found out about Saturday Night Fever and that's another disappointment. I'll definitely stay away from it. I just recently picked up the Running man and great to hear that looks fine. Just waiting for the right time to pick up the intouchables and I've heard great things about that aswell. I don't know what it is with paramount and Planes Trains and Automobiles and why they cannot get it right. It's a shame
Hey Keith, I hope you‘ve checked out a copy of Peter Jackson‘s The Frighteners. Turbine is releasing a limited 4K Ultimate Edition on 4K in their Shop.
Hey Martin. I have indeed picked up a copy. As a matter of fact it got dispatch today. Cannot wait to get my hands on it and see this movie on 4k. Thanks for the heads up my friend
That's such ashame Keith, especially Trains Planes, that is one of the funniest movies from the 80s. I don't understand why they would do an injustice to a classic. Thanks for the heads up Keith.
It really is a shame Gary because Planes Trains is one of my favourite comedies. It's incredibly funny but there is an amazing amount of heart to it aswell and I really do tear up when I watch this movie. It deserves so much better than what we got here and I cannot believe paramount have done it twice to this movie. When will they ever learn. Thank you so much for stopping by my friend
@@millerman9991 I just got to tell you one of the funniest parts in that movie, and there were so many, but remember the look on Steve Martin's face when he pulled out his burnt credit card to pay for the hotel room, that look was priceless, even thinking about it now makes me laugh.
I love that scene so much and Steve Martin makes a lot of those faces during this movie. Do you not remember the scene when he realises he's washing his face with dirty sock water and dries it with John Candy underwear. Floors me everytime
That is a very positive way to look at it and I'm going to do the exact same thing as well. Cannot wait to get my hands on that Frighteners release and the great thing is we don't have long to wait. Which version did you pick up. I opted for the new artwork
Add them to the list of crap 4k transfers to avoid along with: Terminator 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Saturday Night Fever.
I only just found out about Saturday Night Fever and I couldn't believe it. I had no idea it had a bad 4K transfer and rest assured I will stay away from it. So many great movies with terrible 4K transfers. It's a real shame. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
@@millerman9991 No problem! You have a really cool collection and set-up. I've only recently gotten into collecting movies and I'm trying to buy 4ks only. It will be a while before I have a collection as big as yours lol
It's highly addictive and always great to hear of someone starting a movie collection and if you need any help please don't hesitate to ask. Keep on collecting my friend
@@millerman9991 Keith please make sure to link your video review. Your video message, especially that fantastic Irish accent (man am I jealous and love it) is so crucial to getting the point across. OR, have a go at another video dedicated to "Planes, Trains..." and really hammer 'em. We'll call it the remixed/uncensored version!
Thanks for the warning! I fully agree that Paramount is the worst when it comes to pgysical mddia. Sadly so since they have sp many titles in the catalogue. Hope they stop releasing crap versions and let studios like Vinegar Syndrome that cares do the releasing. Paramount is only about a quick buck. So they suck. Cherrs!
Unfortunately I think the only way we are going to get a decent transfer of Planes Trains is for Paramount to give it to a company like arrow Video or vinegar syndrome as you said. At least with them you know they'll be an incredible amount of work put into it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful movie and it's one of my favourite comedies. It deserves so much more than this. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out. I really appreciate it
Unfortunately these things happen. It really is a shame particularly Planes Trains because it's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better. Thank you so much for stopping by and for the incredibly kind comment. I really appreciate it
One of my family members had on PT&A over the wknd and I agree. It really looks bad. Glad I didn't get it. Special features alone are not worth the price tag. We have to stop supporting these crap transfers, otherwise they will keep slapping the 4k on the case and dishing out shit transfers.
I try to find the positives when it comes to situations like this and the only positive I can find is the fact that we get those extended and deleted scenes. But it's definitely not worth the asking price and it's a shame paramount didn't put in as much effort on the transfer as they clearly did with the features. It's such a shame and the movie deserves so much more. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out Johnny
Look at the plus side at least you're getting over an hour of never before deleted scenes and for that reason alone I think it's worth picking up. It's just a shame that didn't put as much effort into the transfer as they did with the features. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking it out
Hate to say it but they probably had a bunch of Millennial/GenZ working on Planes Trains and Automobiles. How else could they release such a disrespectful transfer to lifelong lovers of this classic film! Thanks for the heads up...I'll be skipping both of these titles on 4k.
I wouldn't be one bit surprised if that was true because at least then it would explain why this movie looks the way it does. It really is heartbreaking and this movie deserves so much better. Seriously it's one of the greatest comedies made in the 80s and this is the best we can get for it. Apologies for being the bearer of bad news but it couldn't be helped with this video. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
Hey Keith, I had seen alot of thumbnails with head in hands over trains, planes on UA-cam lately so no surprise what you were saying. Nothing more annoying than "upgrading" to 4k and getting a botch job.. if only you could get a patch for some these releases like in videogames, and instead it could get another release to fix it and screw the buyers of this version. I did order that 5th element edition yesterday Keith in the end, its just one edition and its numbered? I just don't like that it's 8 quid more than the first blood slipcase and the shipping is more, at least it'll be packaged well again I guess.
What really pisses me off is the fact that paramount have done it twice now two Planes Trains. I can't get over the fact they repeated the same crap with the 4K release. How they get away with it I do not know. Great to hear that you picked up the Fifth Element as well and I completely understand what you're saying when it comes to paying extra. But consider what you're getting as well. I don't mind it's so much for these big ticket items but it will frustrate me when it comes to the smaller releases. I got my Robin Hood edition off zavvi today and I have to admit it was in quite a sturdy box full of bubble wrap. Do I dare say they're finally listening to people
@@millerman9991 Oh that's good hear but I think when the packaging is like that it can be manufacturer packing and not Zavvi themselves, that's what someone told me recently anyway. It's likely packaging that would cone straight from Arrow and passed on.
To be honest John I think that's the only way we are going to get a solid 4K transfer of Planes Trains. Unfortunately there is no way paramount will give it up. Like you said another cash grab.
I actually check out the reviews before purchasing this and I choose to ignore them because I love the movie so much. I should have listened. It's a real shame because it's one of my favourite comedies
@@millerman9991 I agree. You're always gonna get a few bombs. That's why I'm still not sold on the 4K thing. The ones I got I got because the artwork is better or it was the same price or a couple bucks more.
You would rather watch the DVD than the 4k? don't you think you're exagerating here a little? I never had it on bluray, and just received the 4k - I will be comparing it directly to my DVD to see if you are talking BS or not...
I can assure you I am not exaggerating. The DVD has the most faithful presentation when it comes to Planes Trains and Automobiles. The 4K transfer is an abomination. The problem you have is you're going to try and justify the money you've spent and I get that. But weather you think the 4K looks better than the DVD doesn't matter. You're never going to change my mind.
Well the reason why we do it is because we're hoping for better quality. Unfortunately it didn't work out this time. This is a rarity because normally the 4K is far superior
Im really happy with my dvds. I grew up with beat and vhs so i am more than happy with dvd. I also dont like movies to be pristine as i like the odd imperfections as it reminds me of watching them on vhs. Especially the horror movies ☺️
@@questionblock8949 And where do you stop? What happens with 8K? Do all the 4Ks just gather dust then with the rest? Crazy. You will never have an ultimate definitive release. 😂
That's why I stick with 2K and 4K restorations of Blu-ray's 99.9% of the time I have a few Paramount 4K restorations Blu-ray's including Friday the 13th, part 2, 3, and The Final Chapter, also Beverley Hills Cop 1,2 and 3 48hrs and Another 48hrs Trading Places all of these titles are 4K restorations and look stunning. I'm not a lover of HDR I prefer the look of Blu-ray's well good quality Blu-ray's I have to give credit to Blue Underground they have done some amazing 4K restorations with some old school films like ZOMBIE, The House by the Cemetery, Maniac which you can now get over at 88 Films it's a real shame this title is DNR'd to death because films when restored correctly look amazing on Blu-ray I'm greatful for companies like Arrow, Eureka, 88 Films, Blue Underground and sometimes Paramount, WB, giving us nice releases such a shame about Fox/Disney I'm hoping before I die I get to hold 4K restorations of ALIEN, ALIENS & Alien 3 and Commando would be nice however I think Commando has a new transfer on Disney plus because it looks much better then ANY current Blu-ray I'm guessing this 2K or 4K restoration was done on Commando before Disney brought them out and it slipped though the online service the print is very clean with NO print damage but again not quite the same as having it on Blu-ray then watching it online
I completely understand what you're saying. You forget how beautiful some of those 2K and 4K master Blu-rays can look. Like you said look at the Friday the 13th movies. Apparently the first Friday on 4K looks terrible. It's hard to believe that because the Blu-ray looks stunning but somehow they f***** it up. I would do anything to see the rest of the alien collection come out on 4k but unfortunately Disney have them now and even if they did decide to bring them out in 4K Disney's track record is quite terrible when it comes to 4K transfers. Like you said at least we have the beautiful Blu-rays and I'm more than happy with them. Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my video
@@millerman9991 yeah, you see I noticed the bad reviews about Friday the 13th on UHD however get the red box Paramount addition of the 8 movie collection because the Scream Factory box set the films are slightly cropped at the top and bottom of the picture! See Caps o Holic you notice it there also plus the red boxed collection is cheaper. The first four films look stunning on Blu-ray with the 4K restorations and I consider The Final Chapter to be the true ending of Friday the 13th anyway for me, Jason most definitely died in the final battle the rest I don't consider as sequels I think that's why Paramount did not bother restorationing the rest lol
I treat the Friday the 13th franchise very similar. Having said that I do like a lot of the sequels past the fourth one. Part 6 in particular is fan favourite. I agree with you though the first four are by far the best when it comes to picture quality. It just goes to show how great they can look when a bit of effort goes into it.
@@millerman9991 100% mate, 👍🏻 I agree such a shame they don't see the REAL resale value quality films that yet don't have restorations or even decent 2K or 4K scans yeah thank god a lot of titles have now had such treatments sadly it looks like there are some that will just be same old transfers of previous releases that's what's killing off physical media releases of the same old transfers look at the Bourne 4K collection how many 4K releases has that had yet the same old rubbish looking upscaled to 4K transfers old transfers upscaled to 4K UHD disc is NOT real 4K in my opinion
Although not the 4k we hoped for it’s still an upgrade over the Blu-ray. I think most people will buy it for the deleted scenes
Do not understand how they keep getting away with this and the one saving grace is the fact that I get those incredible special features of never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes. great review we need more people on youtube to review/warn consumers about these poor releases!

Great review Keith, I cancelled my PTAA steelbook preorder a few days ago and you’ve absolutely validated my decision 🔥🙏🏻😊

Hi Keith the money they charge for 4k we should have top picture quality
I couldn't agree more Mike. Honestly I think there should be a certain standard that needs to be met when it comes to releasing a 4K edition. Holiday Inn was very underwhelming but Planes Trains is one of the most ridiculous looking for 4k transfers I've ever seen. It's such a shame because it's one of my favourite comedies from the 80s and it deserves better than this
Cheers for the heads up on these Keith, top man.
No problem at all bumper. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. All the best my friend
Hi Keith, do you get stuf from Wallapop and the like? Maybe you could also do videos about some of the old dvd limited or special editions.
I don't mind spending some time trying to hunt down certain items
thanks for the warning Keith, I own the blu ray of trains, planes already so yeah i'll be sticking to that one, Patrick.
No problem at all Patrick. It's a real shame that this movie cannot seem to get the transfer that it deserves. Hopefully someday it will happen. Thanks for stopping by my friend
Hi Keith do you feel so let down when you pay so much for a 4k movie, and it ends up a being a massive disappointment?
Of course I feel let down. The last thing you want to be doing is paying big money for 4K releases and then seen them getting terrible transfers. The good news is I bought these from Amazon so I can return them. But it is a shame especially for movies Like These that deserves so much better.
Do the extended and deleted scenes get the same shoddy treatment? I find deleted scenes are often presented “as is”, as they are usually not worth restoring. So ... are they better quality than the actual film in this case?!
Unfortunately they look the exact same if not worse. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news
@@millerman9991 Thanks 😂.(Btw it's only meant as a joke, I don't mean anything bad by it)
I know you are joking. No offence was taking at all.
Holy crap, can't believe they did it again to PT&A. Someday we might get a good transfer of it.
I think the only way we are going to get a good transfer is if a boutique label gets hold of it. Can't see paramount doing that unfortunately
@@millerman9991 I agreem, we need Criterion, 88 Films, Arrow or maybe Eureka to do it justice.
Fingers crossed it does happen someday
Twice I was at Best Buy and had Holiday Inn in my hand ready to buy, but changed my mind both times. Maybe someone was trying to tell me something.
Hey James. It is by no means the worst looking 4K transfer I have seen but it's massively underwhelming especially if you have that Blu-ray. I'm not kidding there is no difference when it comes to the transfer. The Blu-ray looks better because the grain is a lot more consistent. It's a real shame
That's a shame Keith.....I hate when your expectations are high for a release then ya get bad transfer..😔 Thanks for the heads up 👍
Hey Roy. I felt it was only right to warn people about releases like this. Holiday Inn was underwhelming but Planes Trains is downright deplorable and it's shocking that Paramount have done this again. Thanks for stopping by my friend
HDR seems to me like overkill for most comedies. You should do a list of movies that are best on Blu-Ray (or even DVD!).
I think it all depends on how HDR is implemented. Sometimes particularly on comedies it can be overly aggressive and there's no need for it.
I never thought to do my favourite Blu-ray list before and I think that sounds like a great idea for a video. Thanks for the recommendation Jeff. I really appreciate it
Shouldn't you see EVERY movie the best it can possibly be? Everything should be given the 4K/HDR treatment.
Cheers,
Mark
Hey Mark. Was it a simple email you sent them or did you get them on Twitter or Instagram
I subbed just because of the Assault on Precinct 13 intro. The reviews were very helpful too; very disappointed in the news about Holiday Inn
Wow that is very kind of you and thank you so much for that. Assault on Precinct 13 is one of my favourite John Carpenter themes and I was always going to use it for my UA-cam channel. Thank you so much for stopping by
Do you know if Avatar 2009 will be on 4k bluray soon?
I was hoping it was going to get a 4K release before the sequel comes out but that's definitely not happening. Fingers crossed when the sequel comes out on 4K next year maybe they might do the original as well
@@millerman9991 bummer, i've been reading it was coming in december. Well thank you so much anyways👍
No problem at all. I could be wrong but I think if there was a release for it this December we would have heard about it by now.
@@millerman9991 I appreciate that Keith. Some 4K channels tend to dwell on the negative. Which gets old.
Thank you so much for stopping by
Oh man. This makes me sad. Planes Trains and Automobiles deserves a better treatment. Thanks for the info.
Hey Joe. It's my absolute pleasure my friend and sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It's heartbreaking because Planes Trains is one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better
Rip John Hughes, I wish he was here to fix planes, trains and automobiles
Yeah I wouldn't imagine he'd be too happy seen how his movie looks on physical media and the treatment it's been getting. It's a shame
… … ok, I’m done ranting now 🤣
Looking forward to Pulp Fiction next week, loved the Reservoir Dogs 4K, so this should be ok also.
Thanks for the heads up. Planes Trains is one of my favourite comedies but sadly I won’t be buying this 4K version of the film 🙁
Honestly it kills me to put out videos like this particularly from movies like Planes Trains because it's one of my favourite comedies of all time. It's a shame that it's gotten this kind of treatment and it really deserves better. Thank you so much for stopping by and apologies for being the bearer of bad news
Hi Keith
My 4k just arrived today.
Thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out
How about some actual _footage_ from the reviewed media?
Unfortunately you will be hit by a copyright claim if u show footage

Planes Trains and Auto WTF have they done to an absolute classic disgraceful, there is a petition going around to force paramount to act !!
Thanks for stopping by Martin and checking it out
The quality of my basic dvd of The Burbs looks flawless compared to the blu ray Arrow version of it (the edition with the print copy of the movie)
They brightened it up and made it grainy and a little bit washed out in the day time scenes and in the night scenes it's worse.
What's the best planes trains and auto disc or are they all bad? Awesome video but such a shame
Hey Ben. Unfortunately they all look terrible. Honestly the DVD probably has the most faithful transfer. But if I had to choose one I would probably stick with this even though it looks horrible.
@@millerman9991 I only bought it for the deleted scenes. I bought the bluray yesterday. Can't believe the dvd is the best lol
It's a weird thing the DVD is not the best looking but it is the most faithful transfer. If that makes any sense at all
I expect to see this in the bargain bins soon when everyone avoids them.
I guarantee you it won't be too long before you do see them. It's such a shame. The movie's deserves so much better
So I’m just saying if that’s any indication…
I also want to say that their review of the animated The Lion King in 4K did put me off though.
Paramount has never bothered to give any of their catalog titles the proper care, watch any of the first eight Friday the 13ths
I guess you won’t own the whopping 75 mins of deleted scenes
The 75 minutes of deleted scenes is the one saving grace to this release
@@millerman9991 sounds like the deleted scenes and the feature are of the same quality.
To be honest I was expecting the deleted scenes to be in the same quality. I knew there was no way they would remastered them.
PTA sounds like a Christmas Nostalgia cash in; in the long run this only hurts the 4k collector market and its a small market to begin with.
I absolutely agree with everything you said. I think some sort of Boutique label needs to get hold of this movie and give it the transfer it deserves because paramount don't seem to be interested in doing anything to it. It's a real shame
@@millerman9991 I hope some hero out there puts the deleted stuff back in.. as messy as it would be id like to see the full movie.
Totally understand this but I get them cause of those beautiful slipcovers! 😎🤣😂🤣
I completely understand that. The slipcover on Planes Trains in particular is quite nice
@@millerman9991 you’re welcome!
Yeah, I‘ll get my copy too in the next days, got my shipping-mail a few minutes ago.
Wow that is fantastic. Which cover did you go for. I went for the one that wasn't the original cover. The more limited of the two
@@millerman9991 same here. I ordered the one with the modern cover.
I think it looks amazing and the great thing is at least you get the original artwork with the digibook inside. So it's a win-win in my eyes
@@millerman9991 I know what you mean, the ending really chokes you up, I miss John Candy, he left us way too soon.
I couldn't agree more Gary. That ending gets me every time. John Candy was such a wonderful actor and like you said sadly missed
Do you mind asking where you're from? Could be wrong but you sound Irish.
I am indeed Irish. I live in a small town called Navan in County Meath
Sad to see the mess that Paramount have made of Planes trains… my faith though in 4K will be restored with six disc set for the Frighteners…..
That is a very positive way to look at it and I'm going to do the exact same thing as well. Cannot wait to get my hands on that Frighteners release and the great thing is we don't have long to wait. Which version did you pick up. I opted for the new artwork
Add them to the list of crap 4k transfers to avoid along with:
Terminator 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and Saturday Night Fever.

Stay away from SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER 4K also!
Wow are you serious. I thought that was going to be fantastic on 4k. Now that is a real letdown. Thanks for the heads up
@@millerman9991 The bluray that comes with the 4k is way better. A shame all that great disco music sounds weak like a transiter radio.
Well I suppose that is something and I might pick it up for that reason alone. Again thanks for the heads up

Planes Trains is worth it just for the deleted scenes.
That's the one saving grace with this release.
Nothing can match Pirates of the carribean awfulness on 4k. PTA is slightly better than a bluray.
Thankfully I knew to stay away from Pirates. I've heard horror stories about it
Thanks for the warning!
I really appreciate it
What a shame! What an unbelievable collection you have!
Unfortunately these things happen. It really is a shame particularly Planes Trains because it's one of my favourite comedies and it deserves better. Thank you so much for stopping by and for the incredibly kind comment. I really appreciate it
@@millerman9991 No problem - also Maiden! 🤘
I keep forgetting that behind me.
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out Johnny
shit - the only bling buy I made of a 4K disc was Planes, Trains....never mind
Right I see what you're saying. So chances are zavvi haven't learnt there lesson. Will have to wait till I get as Zavvi exclusive from them and see
Another cash grab form paramount :(….. wonder if we ever get a transfer of it ? Via arrow or the like ???
To be honest John I think that's the only way we are going to get a solid 4K transfer of Planes Trains. Unfortunately there is no way paramount will give it up. Like you said another cash grab.
I thought Paramount did a terrific job with Star Trek The Motion picture Director's cut.
I never picked it up if I'm completely honest. I've heard good things about it though
I already heard about the bad news on planes, trains . Guttered after hearing it was being released. 😢👎
I actually check out the reviews before purchasing this and I choose to ignore them because I love the movie so much. I should have listened. It's a real shame because it's one of my favourite comedies
@@millerman9991 hopefully we get a dirty rotten scoundrels on 4K.👍

Thanks for checking it out Michael
I'm beginning to confirm that I will let you guys be the guinea pigs. Movies cost too much now to buy a worst-looking movie.
Unfortunately that's part of being a movie collector. You're going to come across one or two bad looking movies
You're never going to change my mind.
oh my gosh

Absolutely George. Thanks for checking it out
No vhs , crap medium .
@@michaeldy3157 Yes quite true, Betamax was far superior
It makes me laugh when dudes keep buying the same movies over and over again when they already have great looking DVDs. 😂😂
Well the reason why we do it is because we're hoping for better quality. Unfortunately it didn't work out this time. This is a rarity because normally the 4K is far superior
The resolution of a DVD is unbearable nowadays if you watch on a projector or big TV.
8K bluray is never going to happen on physical Media. I think 4K is going to be the last. All those 8K televisions out there are a waste of time
That's why I stick with 2K and 4K restorations of Blu-ray's 99.9% of the time I have a few Paramount 4K restorations Blu-ray's including Friday the 13th, part 2, 3, and The Final Chapter, also Beverley Hills Cop 1,2 and 3 48hrs and Another 48hrs Trading Places all of these titles are 4K restorations and look stunning.
Thankfully the current Blu-ray's of ALIEN, ALIENS & ALIEN 3 still look amazing on Blu-ray thank god!
