- Here is my unboxing of the latest 4K Blu-ray trilogy of Ghostbusters Ultimate Edition. To say that this boxset was a disappointment would be a huge understatement and I really just want to make people aware of what they are buying especially if they're paying £150 like I did for this set. Daylight Robbery.

I got mine on Saturday and it broke my heart. I love collecting movies and love a special edtion. My favourite film is Ghostbusters and I buy what I can when I can to do with the film. I was happy to folk over 150 when they finally said the UK was getting the set.
We all got a look at the release and retailer's used the images from Sony. The light up box, the discs looked to be in digi books but they followed that up with normal boxes with nice new art and different art on the slip case.
Still an over experience set but OK I'm a fan like many so will pay.
Well, Saturday I opened it up, no slips looked for the button to turn the lights on, nothing... I've been had. An over priced and not as promised product. I'm with you, after your video, I will send mine back. This is night worth 150!
The US 🇺🇸 version I hear was also set to 150 which means its about 25-30 pounds cheaper and has better stuff, now I hear the US one dropped to 100 dollars after complaints came in.
How dare Sony not only to not deliver the product they were promoting but also massively over charge us too. Heart broken, I so wanted to love this set of my favourite movie 🥺

This really kills me I'm not going to lie Its never my attention to go out and put people off buying something that they really want but I could not keep my mouth closed on this release. I honestly thought we were getting a metal box with this release and I also thought the discs were house in digibox. You could imagine how devastated I was when I open this and realised how badly screwed we actually where. Why this release is so different to the state I will never fully understand either. But having said that I still think I would have been disappointed even if we did have the slipcovers and the LED light. There is no justification for that £150 Price Tag and like you said when you hear that it dropped to $100 in the States it makes it even worse. I have already contacted Amazon and they have refunded my money and I'm going to send it back tomorrow. I honestly have never been this disappointed for a release before because I am such a huge fan of Ghostbusters and I wanted this to be the definitive edition for that franchise. Unfortunately it wasn't
I'm in Canada and received it today. Comes with the slip covers and the green light inside. Was $99 Canadian on Amazon here. I'm fairly pleased with the package.
Hey Kelly if you're pleased with it then that's all that really matters. €187 is an absolute disgrace 4 this item. If I got it for around $100 I probably wouldn't of complain near as much. I got the US version with digital codes and lights. I was pretty much always expecting a cardboard case (everything was in order on mind, though i heard some sets got wrong discs, or were missing the code sheet, or slipcovers, etc.). Got it for $107 shipped US. But it had minor damage because Amazon shipped it in nothing more than a poly bag. I pressed them and got a $26 refund, so in the end the set cost me a little over $80 and I am thrilled. Especially seeing how the US version sold out and is now only found with secondary sellers asking in the $250 range for it.
Hey Mike it's a shame to hear that you got a damaged edition but having said that you got $26 refund which is quite brilliant. I honestly thought I was getting a prop replica of the Trap because when you're spending €189 why would I not think I was getting that. I'm honestly not a fan of this box set and I never will be for any kind of money. I think the franchise deserve so much better but if you're happy Mike that is the most important thing and like you said they are very hard to buy now.
Always happens with limited edition stuff like this you miss out on retail price cuz the scalpers use bots to buy all the stock then resell it for astronomical prices on Ebay it really should be illegal and put a stop to but sadly it isn't

Thanks so much Adam for checking it out. It's never my intention to put anyone off there purchases but I couldn't keep my mouth closed on this one. I've never been this disappointed by a release before. Really was a missed opportunity.
There are reasons to be positive about this set;
- the book is a nice throwback to something fans have been wanting for years but was out of print and thought never to return
- the lights in the US edition are only on one side at the back and light for a few seconds only
- the films are new transfers and much better than the original 4K versions (especially the first)
- the extras are unique to the set so any Ghostbusters fan will want this for the extras.
I'm not questioning everything in terms of special features when it comes to that set. I'm actually talking about the build of the set itself. You have to bear in mind over here it costs 190 euro. It's an absolute ridiculous price. Now if I was able to get it for the price over in the States which was around $90 I would have no complaints whatsoever.
@@millerman9991 I agree it was overpriced, though with the US set you have to add tax. I still bought it and love the content and the trap is still nice to look at. Would have loved the lights but I would have been equally annoyed that they didn’t stay on. Pretty sure they will do a new collection for the new movie but European fans may be far more cautious this time around. Also seems Sony is becoming the bad man of movie releases these days, both digitally and physically
Whatever it is with Ghostbusters but Sony cannot help themselves but bring out multiple editions. They done it with DVD Blu-ray and now 4k. I wouldn't be one bit surprised to hear if there was something new coming out this year. Not just because of the new movie that's coming out but as you know it's the 40th anniversary of Ghostbusters.

Hey Jonathan yeah this was probably the most disappointed I have ever been when it comes to a release like this. It was a great concept but poorly executed and I honestly think ghostbusters deserves better. Thankfully I was able to get my money back

Hey Stephen apologies for being so negative during this release but I can only be truthful to you all and what I really thought. I honestly think if you can get this set for around £80 maybe it might be worth it. But I can't justify £150 for it. I really can't. Thanks for checking out the video.
I returned mine back to Amazon and got my £150 back just not worth that money like Keith said in the video
Hi Keith totally agree the price should have been £59.99 tops I'm gutted myself the first 2 movies have been treated to a dolby vision upgrade and todate there is no release with all the extras deleted scenes and work prints that are included here. Definitely not worth the money but the Collector in me wants those bonus features I will be upset down the line if they release it again in standard packaging at much lower price
Hey Shane I think what I'm going to do is wait and see if we get standard releases with the bonus discs because I can't keep this release for that kind of money. Amazon has already refunded my money and I'm going to try and get the Steelbook of afterlife and just leave it at that. This 1 really hurt me. I was so disappointed

I’m so glad I cancelled this order and waited to see a unboxing. I was really expecting it to be at least some sort of plastic case with bits sticking out and not all flat card. The U.K. really do get done over.
it’s a very small thing but I recently picked up the new karate kid 4k set and all the individual cases have no cardboard slips but America get very nice slips inside. Anyway I better not go on a rant to much but you definitely done the best thing and sent it back for that price. Thanks for showing it and take care
I honestly do not know what to say about this box set Gary. I thought I was getting a prop replica of the Trap not a piece of cardboard crap and for £150. How the exact same company can sell it for $100 I will never fully understand. I never want to put people off purchasing an item but I have to admit Gary I'm glad to hear that you cancel it. We deserve so much better. I had no idea that the Karate Kid box it was like that as well and what's the common denominator SONY. Thanks for checking it out Gary.
I've been warning everyone a week before, as I went through the headache sourcing the information. Yeah the UK version don't have the digital, slipcase and light up case which US does. I cancelled my Amazon order and ordered the US copy for £120... well worth it.
Yeah it's amazing how much we got screwed over on this release over here. I don't know why but I can see a lot of people returning this today. I'm sure it will go down in price eventually. As of now it is absolutely not worth it. Thanks for checking out my video
Thanks for honest review. Its so expensive trying to collect all these items. If your not happy definitely send it back. Drives me nuts when something arrives damaged slightly
Thankfully I was able to get my money back but I really wanted this set to be phenomenal. I just can't justify that kind of money for such a shabby release. This 1 hurt
Like you I expected this to be either plastic or metal and lights here and there to justify the price. Also all that talk about 2016 being included as a digital copy along with digital copies of the other three? I assumed we'd get those too as they needed to justify the price. I'll go as far to say that Sony kept this all blurry and vague on purpose because they knew what the reaction would be. Each British set sold is like two American sets sold with additional money made as ours was obviously cheaper to produce.
I do believe that the extra two discs are only with this so that's why I'm keeping it but reluctantly so. Not even the matching slip covers to save even more money! You'd think knowing at least something about the Ghostbusters fan base that they'd care enough to get this right. They should offer slip cases and the digital copies to purchasers as an apology at least. I just think its a way of crawling back money after the pandemic and they chose to roll the UK market. I also think this has something in common with James Bond. No Time To Die was advertised primarily showing images that turned out to be the US copy with three disc 4K/Blu-ray and two disc Blu-ray & DVD. All with a digital copy. The UK 4K was just the 4K & Blu-ray and no second special features Blu-ray and no digital copy. I think some of the advertising was again purposely misleading. The other thing with James Bond is the last US 'complete' set was taken to court as it professed to being Complete (as the Ghostbusters set claims to be Ultimate) and it didn't include the two movies made by other companies but were now owned by Eon/MGM. MGM lost and had to give all purchasers in the US digital copies of those two movies. Something that didn't happen in the UK despite it being the same boxset. I asked MGM about this at the time and they said that the ruling didn't apply in the UK so there was no similar obligation to UK buyers. I believe the main reason for the digital copy of Feig's movie was partly to prevent a similar court case as despite whatever the feeling is towards THAT movie surely describing a boxset as Ultimate would mean its inclusion physically? Therefore in the UK there is now a case as this can't be 'Ultimate' because 2016 isn't included in any way. I felt with the Bond box they just didn't think British buyers would take it to court so didn't care. I think Sony likewise likely feel the same with this because the UK edition really shouldn't be called Ultimate. I do wish someone would take this to court and at least make some use of Feig's movie and draw attention to the inconsistencies with the US edition and have to explain/recompense that!
Hey Andrew thank you so much for your incredible comment. A few people have been asking me what was I expecting from this release and honestly I really thought we were getting a prop replica of the original trap and why would I not think that when you're spending nearly €200 on an edition like this. I also thought the movies were going to be housed in digibooks which we didn't get either. Now I know I complained about the fact that the films had no slipcovers or we didn't get to LED lights but I still don't think I would have changed my mind either way when it comes to this release. When you do look at this set the first thing you ask yourself is how much would it actually cost them to mass produce these boxes. I'm sure it cost little to nothing. To be honest I wasn't one bit surprised that Kevin Feigs movie wasn't going to be in the set. When you think about it the film ignored the original movies and to me it just wouldn't have sat well in this collection. But that's just my opinion. But I completely understand where you're coming from when you talk about ultimate editions. Unfortunately this set is not for me and I have contacted Amazon and they refunded my money. I just have to return it tomorrow. Apologies for being very negative in this video Andrew but it just couldn't be helped and I really want to thank you for taking the time to come over and check it out and for putting down a well Thought comment

I would trade the lights and the slips to have the digital copy of that remake garbage removed from the US version. Just having it listed on the back of the box makes me feel gross.
I'm actually in tears laughing here Ryan. I think that movie would devalue the boxset. I can't stress to you how much I hate that movie and it's the one good thing I can say about that edition is that we didn't get it.

Regarding the book. Sony contacted the Spook Central Ghostbusters fan website which had a fan pdf scan of the book and used that to produce the book. Also the book is about 1/3 the size of the original release.
I'm a huge fan and even I stayed away from this release, not worth it.
I mean I bought the LOTR steelbook boxset and that was only £99 on release. Much better value than this release.
The only thing I want from this release is the bonus features discs.
Even if you assume a price of £25 per 4K, that's only £75, so your telling me the book and extras are worth the other £75? That's with no slip case's or digital codes or light up box. Pure rip off cash grab by Sony.
In fact the first 2 Ghostbusters films have been out a while on 4K and have been in the 3 for £30 sale every now and again.
That's exactly what I done as soon as I bought this set. I went into my media room and I check that all the amazing editions that I have that I paid half of what I pay for this box set. I honestly thought I was getting a trap replica and you can't really blame me because when you spend €190 you're expecting something very special. Thankfully I was able to get my money back without any issues for Amazon.
Judging by your collection (which is awesome, by the way), it does sound like you were expecting the movies to be housed in a movie-quality replica ghost trap. I took one look at the picture on Amazon and knew it would be a cheap, cardboard-looking thing. But I didn't pre-order it for the packaging. I already have the first two movies in 4k in a very nice steelbook case that came out a few years ago. I bought it for the special features, that I don't think are being released anywhere else but in this set right now, including a bunch of Ghostbusters II deleted scenes. That being said, in America I pre-ordered it for, I think, $150 American, and the price went down so I only just paid $108. And it does suck that you aren't even getting the light-up feature in the European release, which does just baffle me.

The official name for this box set is the "Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection".
Thanks so much for this detailed review. I was looking forward to this box set ever since it got revealed as I am a huge Ghostbusters fan, even though I wasn't gonna get it. What really annoys me about this as well is the BBFC insight for the set as all three 4Ks have an insight of "moderate threat, horror, sex references, implied strong langauge" which that applies to Ghostbusters: Afterlife only. What a clumsy, lazy release. I love the artwork on all of the individual 4Ks, but the rest doesn't look worth it for the price. Even the American version comes with a digital copy of the Ghostbusters remake! That has more content than the UK version!

It's amazing the more I look into this box set the worst it seems to be getting. Hey Simon yes they are all new scans with Dolby Vision but unfortunately it's still can't make up for this poor Shabby excuse of a boxset. It was so disappointing. But thankfully I was able to get refund without any issues. I suppose that's something
Somehow I was lucky enough to catch the announcement of this box set very early on and was able to pre-order it from amazon Germany (where I live anyway) as soon as it was listed for 84.99 EUR. I feel OK with that price given the huge amount of new extra features included here (which you didn't mention at all, btw). But I totally understand your disappointment for the price. And I also feel unhappy about not getting the LED gimmick, not the slipcases. (Though, not getting slipcases whilst the US gets them is not really a surprise, since we already had to suffer the same with the Columbia Classics 4K 6-film collections.)
So, yeah, all in all feeling a bit mixed about it, but for me content is king and I love having the bonus features for a half-ways acceptable price.
I honestly think €85 is a fair price and if I got it for that I probably wouldn't have complained as much. Having said that it's still a very poor Edition and I think Ghostbusters deserve so much more. The only reason why I never mentioned the special features is because I honestly thought you were not worth mentioning. I showed the back of the box and they were there to be seen so I never thought to say anything. I think at the end of the day it is all down to personal preference. If you're happy with it that's the most important thing

Some people are having a problem with duplicate discs as well so everybody check they're box set is ok.The US version looks a lot better with Slipcases and green light but even with that it's a lot of money for what it is.Thanks for unboxing for us.

Some of these releases are getting very lazy Keith but the prices are going up and up hopefully by not buying these we send a clear message that collectors will only pay so much and expect more for our money, what a shame 😕
I have to admit that this release was crushing. I honestly thought we were going to get a metal box not this cheap cardboard. £150 is absolutely crazy. Thankfully I was able to get my refund without any issues
It's too bad you guys got screwed on this one. In Canada, I secured two copies at 99$ each. I feel at that price this is a good release, especially considering it came with slips and lights. That's the normal price of three retail 4ks in CAD. If I had paid near 300 like y'all I would be disappointed but the content is killer.

Yeah the UK got robbed Personally in the states as a huge Ghostbusters fan I was worried about the original price but I saw it went on sale and ended up spending 99$ on this set.
It came with the lights,slip covers,digital codes,the book,bonus disc,and the movies themselves.
And to answer your question the special features are exclusive to this set and some are even never seen before

Agree 👍 keith. I bought the new ghostbusters afterlife single disc version. US edition got light up feature. Usual rip off over here mate.
Absolutely another rip-off job as usual. I'm going to try and buy the Steelbook of afterlife and leave it at that. This was the most disappointed I have ever been when it comes to buying an edition.
Worth noting Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II in this set are Dolby Vision. The previous releases were not. I have both sets of the previous releases which are the very first 4K UHD releases. Then I got the re-releases that came as a boxset of the first 2 movies which came with special features (deleted scenes for GBII) and neither sets have Dolby Vision.
Thanks for the heads up I wasn't sure whether or not part 1 and 2 got new 4K scans. Unfortunately it's still won't save this box set for me. I think what I will do is wait for them to come out and standard releases and then pick them up. Gutting when this happens but appreciate the warning. I was lucky enough to get the afterlife steelbook before it sold out and have the first two on steel with really impressive artwork. And agree you'd at least expect a metal box for that kind of money. WB have been leading the way with quality collections lately. Hope you've better luck on the next purchase mate and thanks again for the warning.
That's exactly what I'm going to do Christopher I'm going to try and get the Steelbook of afterlife and wait and see if this box set goes down sometime in the future. Agree with you that I thought it would be metal box, looks cheap and nasty. Hope you will be able to get your money back. Thanks for a good honest review again. Don't get too disheartened as your videos are always enjoyable.
This is definitely the most disappointed I've ever been when it comes to buying a release like this. Thankfully I was able to get my money back and I think what I'll do now is try and get the Steelbook of afterlife. Unfortunately these things happen John. I’m actually not a fan of the Ghostbusters franchise personally, but for the price for this edition you expect some imagination, at least steelbooks, the door opening is poorly designed & a little bland, the book is the best thing & that’s about it, I personally think you’ve done the best thing in sending it back, time to get the U.S edition 🤔😎

Keith that set is what we call here in London " pony" ( pony and trap , Crap) f#cking awful set mate , £50 tops for that , great sets are few and far between when it comes to big studios I find but this I'm almost speechless with, I'm going to rent the film on Amazon tomorrow as I don't even want to spend 15quid nowadays on a studio release let alone 20 odd quid on a studio release 4k, I'm much more into action figures and pops nowadays as I pretty much were I want to be with physical media.

Got my copy. I'm in the States. I plan on breaking up the set. Only wanted the original film with the new HDR/DOLBY VISION... and the special features discs.
It's crazy when you can't buy these films individually isn't it. I'm sure that will happen sometime in the future.

You're absolutely right you just don't know what way it's going to go. They really have us by the balls when you think about it.
From what I can see is the biggest disappointment was the difference between the euro version and the states version no slipcovers and no light. I personally wasn’t expecting a metal casing. Pretty sure they would of highlighted that if there was a metal casing. Price wise I spent $100 on mine in the states. GB 1&2 combo blue Ray is about $15 here and after life is about $30 in 4K which is $45. $55 difference for all the special features, the reprint of making of ghostsbuster book and pretty decent case isn’t bad and let’s not forget the digital codes even for the horrible remake 🤢

Great info here Keith!!!! I know you are a huge fan of the franchise and was expecting a great release on this set! But wow!! Have they dropped the ball here 🤯🤯🥶🥶 I'm a big fan of your collectable videos and have seen you showcase some belters and if you hadn't mentioned any negatives to the set, I would have been VERY underwhelmed by it!! £150!!! This video Killed me to make. As you know John I am a huge fan of this franchise and like I said in the video I thought afterlife was probably the best film I seen last year. So my expectations were very high for this and when I opened it I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I honestly thought I was getting a prop replica of the Trap and I thought the disks were housed in digibooks which unfortunately they weren't and to be honest you can't really blame me for thinking that because of how much I spent on it. I have contacted Amazon and they've already refunded my money I just have to return it today. You know me John I would never return anything and I think that alone speaks volumes. Truly disappointing

I honestly thought we were getting a metal box with this release and that's why I bought it. I really hope a lot of people left there editions back today not just me. Never been this disappointed when it comes to buying a release like this. Its a real shame

To be honest John I'm not a huge fan of that movie so I honestly didn't care if it was in or not. Having said that it is called the ultimate edition and maybe it should have been in it

To be honest Mark even if the light and the slipcovers came with this release it still wouldn't change the fact that it's an absolute god-awful set. £150 then must be kidding. Thank the Lord I was able to get my money back.
Hi Keith - jumped over on the recommendation of Film Collector John so it's my first time commenting. Whilst I will admit to feeling slightly shortchanged, I bought this set (for £120) on the promise of Atmos/Vision copies of the original 2 films (I loathed "Afterlife") and the attendant extras - including the long sought after deleted scenes and commentary on "Ghostbusters 2" and in that regard I'm quite pleased. The workprint/test screening version of the first movie (with commentary) is an absolute treat for longtime fans as well - it reminded me a great deal of a similar inclusion in the excellent "Blade Runner" set from a few years back. The book is lovely, too. On balance I'd say £99.99 or £89.99 would have been a fairer price but I'm not as grouchy with it as I was with the "Indiana Jones" set from last year - which also came with a movie I'll never take out of the box and zero new extra features. Eager to hear your report on "Dune" - I watched the 4K on an OLED with DV and thought it looked splendid. Keep up the good work! Dan.
Hey Dan thank you for coming over and saying hello. John is a great friend of mine and it's one of the great things about having a UA-cam channel. You get to become friends with other amazing UA-camrs and of course our subscribers as well. We all inspire to be like John. I honestly don't know what to say about this set. You have to understand I am attacking the box set itself and not it's contents. The two bonus discs are absolutely fantastic and that's the only thing thats stopping me from returning this set. But then it hits me that I'm paying nearly €200 for bonus discs and unfortunately I just can't do that. I never had a chance to check out the transfers on the first two movies but I've been told by a few people now that theres little to no difference from the last releases we got. There's another disappointment in itself. I think it all comes down to personal preference and if you're happy with the set then that's all that really matters. Again thanks Dan for coming over and checking it out. I really do appreciate it and I hope to hear more from you in future videos.

It's never my intention to put people off certain items that they want but unfortunately I just couldn't keep my mouth closed on this one. I honestly have never been this disappointed by a release like this and I have already left mine back. Maybe someday if it goes down in price I might pick it up again. Like you said it's a shame

Afterlife steelbook arrived today Keith from Italy took about a week to arrive J Card back is in Italian and says legacy, but steelbook says Afterlife on the front I'm really pleased about that mate 👍
ok further checking Blu-ray says Ghostbusters Legacy on the disc label and 4k says Ghostbusters Afterlife lol but still very worth it 👍
That's the one great thing I can say about Amazon Italy when it comes to buying steelbook. The J card we'll always be in Italian but the Steelbook itself will be in English and that's why I never feel guilty about buying from Amazon Italy. Thanks for the heads-up Martin on this. A Keith , that’s an unreal rob for the money and especially after seeing the USA one with the slips and all !. Picked up the Zavvi. Steelbook of after life , really looking forward to watching it whenever it arrives , have the first two already on 4k . Be interested to hear if the extras are only in this edition .
Yeah this one really hurt me. Thankfully I was able to get my money back and I'm going to do the exact same thing as you I'm going to get the Steelbook of afterlife and just leave it at that. The bonus discs are exclusive to that box set. But this is Ghostbusters were talking about you know as well as I do there's going to be at least another 5 editions of this in the next couple of years and I'm sure them bonus discs will feature somewhere along the line.

Yeah it was disgraceful and I honestly think the boxset is just not worth that money. The first thing I did was looked around my entire collection and the amount of Incredible pieces that I have that I paid that kind of money for and the difference in quality is huge. Hopefully you will get more enjoyment out of yours than I did
The Canada one is exactly the same as the US version only difference is because it's Canada it has French text as well as English on the cover

As far as I know if you're getting it over in Canada you should have the LED light inside so I don't think u have anything to worry about. I honestly think $100 is a fair price and if I got it for that I probably wouldn't have complained as much

Yes typical that we get screwed over again when it comes to money over here. I think the $100 Price Tag is fair and I would have been a hell of a lot happier with that. It's still not a great boxset if I'm being totally honest. I'm a huge ghostbuster fan myself but I think it deserves far better. I'm going to watch your Mad Max and Ghostbusters videos back to back

It's actually a very good way to look at it. Unfortunately for me I am going to leave it back because I can see standard releases being released for these movies with the bonus discs.
@@millerman9991 The features disc from the 35th Anniversary set wasn’t ever released outside of that set, so doubt these discs will appear in future single releases - plus the 2nd special features disc has features for both GB2 & Afterlife on it.

One of our Ghostbusters fandom brothers in Canada, got missing disc. He got like 2 or 3 regular Blu-Ray disc. His 4K Ghostbusters was gone. Mine came damaged. But Got all the films like I should have. It sucks that your copy did not light up.
There seems to be a hell of a lot of trouble surrounding this box set. Me personally I was disgusted by this set and thankfully I was able to get my money back from Amazon without any issues. I really think Ghostbusters deserve better than what we got here. Such a shame
My Canadian release was missing the slip cover for after life and had damage inside the trap box. I contacted Sony with a lengthy email and half a dozen photos. After weeks I finally get a reply and they ship me a slip cover...for the generic afterlife 4k release...I immediately reply to the email thread letting them know this wasnt the correct slip cover and all I got was radio silence. Pretty annoying.

It's a fantastic movie and looks great in 4k.
A rip off price. I got the German set for 90 euro delivered to Ireland. I bought this for the discs only. First 2 movies have Dolby Vision and are on 100gb discs as opposed to the original 4k release that was just 66gb. Better grain resolve on the new release plus the new 4k discs now has original stereo audio. The new special features are worth the price of admission alone for me as a fan. I just chucked out packaging and put new discs into the original 4k double movie steelbook, along with Cleaning up the town disc. Steelbook can hold 8 discs so is great for shelf space. As regards your comments on Afterlife being a 2k upscale, you are incorrect. Afterlife was finished with a 4k DI and the disc is a true 4k transfer. I bought the Zavvi Steelbook for this to compliment the Steelbook for 1 & 2.
I honestly think that if I was able to get this set for €90 I wouldn't have complained near as much. But having said that it's a terrible set and a £150 is just pure rip off. I actually thought I was getting a trap replica and you can't really blame me for thinking that when you're spending £150. There seems to be a lot of confusion over afterlife and whether or not it's a 4K native or upscale. Either way it's still not much of an upgrade over the Blu-ray which is a bit of a shame. I thought we would get a huge upgrade in colour with HDR and Dolby Vision but unfortunately that didn't happen either. Shoulda been all steel books in this set with a metal case for the price. Still happy we had a bit of an upgrade. Already had GB 1 & 2 on blu-ray exclusive Best Buy steel books with cool art on them. Still think this is worth it for $100 in the states here, just don’t get why UK wasn’t exactly the same, and stayed at the higher price! For shame.

I avoided this boxset early on as I heard a lot of differences between the usa and uk set. No lights for the box itself. No slips. No digi codes. And I thought for a while about ordering the usa set but bought the steelbooks instead. This dissapointed me as much as the back to the future steelbook set and indiana jones both having flimsy cases or poor design. Shame. Still as you said a bargain later on. I wanted the book to be honest. It's out of print now.
I am the exact same as yourself. When I opened this box set and I seen how shabby it was I instantly started thinking about the Indiana Jones and Back to the Future sets. Some of the biggest franchises in the world and and this is the treatment they get. Absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully I was able to send this back and get my money and I'm going to go and buy the afterlife Steelbook and just leave it at that.
I have the Indy steelbooks the films themselves are great 4K transfers but the packaging makes it a shite release for what it cost from Zavvi crap art work and housed in a cheap crappy cardboard case

Yeah I've been told by a few people now that part 1 and 2 have got Dolby Vision. But I've also heard there's not much of a difference from the previous 4K releases. So I will give it a miss for now and hopefully pick it up cheap someday

Thanks for this mate - absolute shambles. As usual the UK gets screwed over. Definitely done on the cheap re lack of digi packs and lighting. Also agree with the 4K of Afterlife. Absolutely adore the film and my boys saw it for the first time the other night and loved it. But it's very soft for a 4K with the colour palette being a bit all over the place
Yeah the more I think about this box set the more disastrous it actually is. I did not know when buying this set that the first two movies had new 4K scans and from what I've been hearing there is little to no difference with them. Afterlife does look beautiful but for a Blu-ray not 4k. But the film itself is truly wonderful and I probably enjoyed it even more on my second viewing.

I feel bad that you get charged basically twice as much as we did in the US. The 3 movies in 4K plus digital copy were going to cost me ~90 USD so I am satisfied to get everything else for about $10 more.
I honestly think if I was able to get that box set for $100 I probably wouldn't have complained so much in the video. Yeah I had this preordered and couple of weeks back I told myself I can't afford this, after seeing a few videos on this and yours I am so glad I cancelled it. The uk version doesn't get slip covers, there is no LED light in the box and no codes but the US market get that? Crazy. I wonder if these companies are looking at boutique labels special editions and thinking they can try and scam us. Get that money back and buy yourself something nice mate.

To be honest I think $75 is a fair price. Don't forget I just bought the Resident Evil collection which had 6 4K movies for $50 and the box set itself was presented much better as well.

Great review man . To be honest I have 1, more problem with the set . Maybe not the bast movie . But it should also have the grill Ghostbusters movie in it white the name ultimate collection . Always love your reviews thanks for the warning
To be honest I'm not a fan of the 2016 Ghostbusters movie and I really didn't miss it in the set if I'm completely honest. But I understand where you're coming from as well. I honestly don't think anything could have helped this boxset. Such a shame

Yeah it's very simple I just contacted Amazon explain why I was leaving it back. They instantly sent me a return label and that was it.

You are absolutely right Roy. Ghostbusters has been released so many times and I'm sure there will be something better down the line. But for now I'm definitely leaving this back

I honestly do not know. The one thing I will say when it comes to Ghostbusters they always seem to bring out different editions of it every couple of years. So I'm sure this will come back around sometime
I could see from your face you were not happy before you spoke . When i 1st saw this set I was so excited then I noticed no steels 🤯 then amaray cases didn’t match and the box was cardboard last was the price 🤯🤯🤯 solid be £79 at a push . Sorry did you say trap or crap edition 😂. Well done on sending it back hopefully more will do the same so they know they can’t release these poor editions ..sorry your disappointed Keith
Hey Jimmy you know how much I love my collectibles but this was a huge disappointment. I honestly thought I was getting a metal box and not this cardboard crap. I was able to get a refund off Amazon without any issues and I'm going to try and get a Steelbook of afterlife and then just leave it alone

I am in Australia and i have been looking on most of the usual online shops over here and only 1 has this set, Zavvi has it but it is $285 aus dollers and coming from zavvi it will be the uk version i was thinking about getting it but yeah.........
I honestly do not know what to tell you my friend. If you thought I looked upset during this video you should have seen how I looked when I open this boxset for the first time after spending that kind of money on it. They're still available on Amazon UK but I'm not sure would they ship to Australia. It's never my intention to put people off something that they want. But this definitely was the most disappointed I have ever been when I came to buying a released like this.
@@millerman9991 No you did not put me off getting this release as i was already like will i or won't i... sort of thing but now actually seeing it yep i won't be and i usually wait till i see reviews or unboxings of things i want just so i can see them first before i make up my mind when things are this expensive
I honestly think you're making the right call. I've actually already Returned mine and got my money back. It was a missed opportunity it should have been so much better
I just received my boxset in Canada today, and yeah it does have the light up box and the slip covers, and it was only 99$ CAD. So not sure why the big mark up with even less in the box over there. I did buy 3 of them though, planning to put one up on auction on Ebay right away here. If your interested in the other copy maybe we can work something out. Also I am super close to having my whole collection all cleaned up and ready for a tour video in the next couple days!

Could folks in the UK import a US box set and have it work on their player? I got the US box set which is half the price you folks had to pay and ours have slip covers and the box lights up. I'd be upset too if I were in the UK. Also hate ghostbusters 2016. They can leave that out of the set entirely.
Unfortunately when I realised everything that was missing from this it was sold out over in the States. I don't think anybody wants that 2016 movie in that set. It would probably devalue the edition. I returned it and got my money back. It could have been so much better. A wasted opportunity
@@millerman9991 If they had released it at a lower price like they did in the states? The set otherwise isn't bad for getting physical copies on both blu-ray and 4k as well as a ton of special features and extras. I had not yet upgraded to 4k. But yeah I didn't even bother redeeming the code for 2016. That went in the trash after I redeemed the other three.
It's like WB with the LoTR ultimate edition which isn't ultimate. That set was like $200 US but it lacks any special features from the previous releases. Your just paying for fancy packaging.
With this release the US ones are region free which is a nice change as usually in the states blu rays are region A which means you need a region free player in order to play them in the UK

Wow you are not going to believe this but that's exactly what came to mind when I got this set and I was meant to mention it in that video about that Tron Legacy cube. Great minds think alike
