I went to my local theater here in Cleveland to go see Light of Day. Our local news had a segment showing MJF in a park smoking with fans onlooking. I was lucky to obtain a really good looking bootleg with great packaging of the film. I was very pleased to see it covered here.
Please continue to do more of these videos. Such underrated movies stuck on vhs. I just got rid of desert kill and paternity on vhs because it just got a blu ray release by kino. Brian, please keep doing the Lord's work for movies and physical media.
I have a few videos only because when I tried the dvds, one had a completely different ending that made no sense, and one that is not available on dvd at all. My other videos would be double features, like Robocop 1&2 😊 Great video! Enjoy your gems! 😊
Fascinating stuff! There’s a bittersweet quality to these, as I become excited about the films only to remember how difficult they are to see. I’d love to see more videos in this vein.
Yes it’s kind of a bittersweet time ultimately. For me part of the draw back in to collecting vhs again was just realizing some of these movies are maybe not coming to DVD or Blu-ray maybe ever if they havent shown up by 2024.
Had the good fortune of buying out the VHS inventory from (one of) the last video store in the Twin Cities - a year ago. Lots of only on VHS gems including a cool Key Video "Last Summer" tape - along with a lot of direct-to-video 90s erotic cinema - ala the great 2023 doc "We Kill For Love." Happy hunting Brian. Tapes are a great way to add to your discoveries list.
Oh how cool you got all those tapes, and LAST SUMMER to boot. That’s definitely on my list of vhs I’d like to have a copy of. I’m also looking for THIEF (1971) the TV movie with Richard Crenna and Angie Dickinson if you ever see that tape!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Jeff Goldblum only on 📼 VHS😢. I remember seeing it at elementary school during Halloween in the 80s‼️🧐🤔. So many movies and made for tv movies and specials never made it to laser disc, beta max, or even VHS. Especially so many holiday themed made for tv specials, tv shows and cartoons. 🤔🧐🍬🎃🍭🎃Happy Halloween🍁 🕷📼🧛🚨🔪👽🌃🛸🎭🪄🔮🎩🪓🩻🗡🪦☠️⚰️🗿💀👻🍂
It’s wild to see COURIER OF DEATH at the top of your list! It was filmed in and around right here in Portland back in 1983 (I believe), I remember an interview in the local weekly with director Tom Shaw, but never saw the film til finding an ex-Hollywood Video rental about 15 years ago. Funnily enough, my ex-boss (RIP) Jim Caputo played one of the henchmen and I’m pretty sure dubbed Shaw’s performance as the pilot also. Glad you enjoyed it!
This was awesome. I have a large collection of VHS tapes in storage, accumulated in the last 20 years. Many of them have not seen post-analog life. Thanks for this, and more vids like this would highly appreciated.
This was really good! I was a teenager during the heyday of VHS, I actually own a DVD/VHS player and still have a few VHS tapes mainly big box stuff I collect.
Love the Foolkiller! I still have a copy that I bought from a video store that was closing down in the late 90's. This is one of the titles that can easily fit in the Criterion Collection. The rights must be a mess. Criminally overlooked.
@@JustTheDiscs For sure. I actually suggested it to Criterion a few years ago but I got radio silence. Afterall, I'm just some random guy on the internet, so no surprises. It was a shot in the dark, but I tried.
Videos like this are priceless. True film preservation since there's still so many lost on VHS or worse, no home video release ever. More like this please!
The music concert documentary 'No Nukes' is one I had to buy VHS and do a rip of. The Bruce Springsteen portion of the shows got a separate release but not the documentary itself. I wonder if there's music rights issues or some other legal headache holding it up?
One I would love to come to blu-ray is a tv movie I rented from a local shop back in the day was Late Last Night (1999), starring Emilio Estevez and Steven Webber. Way better than it gets credit for and a a lot of fun.
Circuitry Man 1 and 2 were the ones I always wanted but just gave in and got them digital. Other VHS from my list Meatballs 3 The Big Score 1983 The Steagle The Wiz Kid E. Nick A Legend In His Own Mind
Crazy a Charlie Band film doesn't have an 85 dollar 4K deluxe edition by now 😂 actually thinking Arrow did that set of Empire films, thinking they will continue and our out more Volumes, hopefully it comes out, sounds fun
This is was best day! I actually like it night of the juggler and nightlife both really obscure movie, i just watch it last weeks ago, it was really great fun movie and also deserved it on blu ray proper releasing since this both for stuck on trapped vhs long time out of print rare so hard to find.
I have plenty VHS here in the UK that's not available on disk yet, one British movie I recommend is "The Odd Job" starring Monty Pythons Graham Chapman and David Jason 😁
Yes, more! I've been cataloging my VHS lately and finding some gems I forgot about that seem to be MIA now ( and some not-so-gems, Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx, lol).
Faeries only on VHS, and Let it Be, The Muppets Hey Cinderella, The Frog Prince, The Musicians of Bremen, It and ET have things that are not on any other release. BC Thanksgiving and BC Christmas, Gnomes, Raggedy Ann and Andy Musical Adventure. And I have a few more ,some Indian in the Cupboards comes with 5 figures on VHS.
There's a couple of VHS only video nasties that have never had a DVD or Blu-Ray release, G.B.H. a low budget gangster film set in Manchester and The New Adventures Of Snow White, and adult take of Grimm's fairy tales from the late 60s.
@JustTheDiscs Slightly on the same subject, there are also a couple of alternative versions of video nasties that have never seen a DVD or Blu-Ray release, the original theatrical version of Christmas Evil (You can only get the director's cut on disc) and the extended version of Absurd,.which only came out on a Belgian VHS tape. Needless to say, some video tapes of video nasties are worth some serious money too, such as the original VIPCO release of The Driller Killer (The film that started the whole video nasty scandal off) and films that struggled to get past the censors uncut such as Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal.Ferox and Faces Of Death are now worth three figures EACH in good condition.
Would enjoy more of these type vids! It's incredible that LIGHT OF DAY is not on DVD, as there are big fan bases for Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett. I would like to see a blu-ray release of GRIFFIN AND PHOENIX, the original made for tv movie with Peter Falk and Jill Clayburgh. (Not the remake!) It came out on CBS Fox videotape. NAKED OBSESSION is a low budget gem from Dan Golden, with William Katt and Maria Ford. Only on videotape. NIGHT SIEGE: PROJECT SHADOWCHASER ii came out on a double feature Image DVD briefly and is long out of print. The DVD goes for ridiculous money. It was a fun DIE HARD in a nuclear power plant riff with Bryan Genessee, Frank Zagarino (and his incredible hair), and Beth Toussaint.
I've been looking for the Terence Stamp movie about Arthur Rimbauds last days called 'A Season In Hell'. The only rip I can find doesn't have subtitles and the VHS is in Italian. Which is odd given Italian movies used to be dubbed in post anyway. I don't know if an English dub existed but I can't find one with subtitles which sucks.
I see that German disc and I’ll say that such releases are difficult to determine if they are legitimate or not or simply a company putting out what Is ostensibly a VHS rip on a disc or an actual transfer from a print or negative of some kind. For the most part I am trying to say that these films don’t have a legit US release
@@JustTheDiscs I will brother, I actually used to make vlogs for my physical media flea market trips but I discontinued them because I feared they'd get boring.
Has anybody uncovered the impossible to find (supposedly "only on VHS") movie about fight to the death style tournaments and a main protagonist who has razor blades in his long black hair? The film was shown on Australian TV back in the early 2000's The movie was very real looking and gritty and the fighters who were killed were thrown down these tunnel chute things. The fights were in a cage like environment with tiki torches. Any help would be appreciated. A group of us have been searching for this movie for years. Nobody can remember the name of it though LOL
Enemy Territory have Dutch dvd released by The Company of Motion Pictures. Light of Day should have French release, i have seen the movie is original from Columbia Tristar, those days better known as Sony. Columbia Tristar the same studio that released Stuart Little movies on Bluray.
These foreign releases are often hard to read the legitimacy of so I often don’t count them. Some are often just glorified vhs rips and it’s hard to know what’s what. Hoping for more legit releases of all of these

I remember seeing that Fool Killer tape at a Hollywood Video in the 90s in the old movies section. Wish I`d rented it.
Yeah is sadly become so hard to find
Super rad vid, dude!! I’ve been wanting to see Enemy Territory for a while! As much as I love Blu-ray and 4k, I’ll always be a tapehead 🤙🏽

Yeah I’m quite bummed That so many tv movies are kept on life support by the fact that they have UA-cam rips which could disappear at any time

Nice yeah those are two I’d love on Blu
me my holy grail GRIMM PRAIRIE TALES with commentary James Earl Jones and Brad Douriff are amazing as story presentators

I loved Hunters blood growing up . I hope this gets a new release . “ them boots is what I want “ 😂
Fingers crossed seems like it would do well if it got a nice Blu-ray
I’m in the UK but I did recommend this film to Vin Syn . I think this movie would fit perfectly in their catalogue
