Arthur used to be on PBS when I got home from HIGH SCHOOL-like I was 16, 17 years old at the time. Not in the target demographic at all, and, let's be real, at the height of my cool, disaffected adolescence, and I unironically loved it. Yeah, sometimes I would watch reruns of The Simpsons that aired in the same time slot on Fox, but a lot of the time I preferred Arthur. My sixteen-year-old self, coming home from school, drinking a coke, watching a show for 7-year-olds and vibing. Even at the time, I was like, "Bro, what do you want me to say? It's a good show."
I dont even know how many times as a teenager I would end up unironically watching a kids show; they just keep getting better quality as time goes on. Even now a days, at nearly 30, I still sometimes pop on a kids show and find myself enjoying the story- Bluey comes to mind pretty quickly lol. Also, if you're looking for a fun light hearted movie that still somehow tuggs on your heartstrings, kids movies are where it's at
No judgement here, I used to watch both pbs and Nick Jr during my middle school and even high school years on summer break, I refused to fully let go of my inner child haha

Two very important things: 1: The Count is actually one of the most accurate portrayals of traditional vampires in media and I am not joking. Traditionally, vampires have a reddish or purplish complexion. They also typically have an obsession with counting. Like, if you spill salt or grain or sand in front of them they HAVE to stop and count every single grain. It's supposed to be a distraction tactic to either prevent them from being able to hunt (pour a huge pile next to their grave) or prevent them from making it back 2: I freaking LOVE Sagwa!! It was one of my favourite shows growing up!! I distinctly remember the Lantern Festival episode (one of the human girls got lost during the festival and was mistaken for a commoner, she got to experience the festival very differently), the episode where Shegwa (the little pure white baby) was declared a princess because of a star shaped marking on her chest, and the episode where we find out the meaning of all the kittens' names! I forgot about this show until tucker and you mentioned these! I remember watching the exact episode of the festival. That is actually wild. I think a lot of the chinese culture I still know about came from that show originally.
I loved Sagwa. They were cats that wrote with their tails! :D Also, it was the first time I ever saw written Mandarin, I genuinely gained an appreciation for all forms of calligraphic art from it!
I am absolutely delighted that so many old PBS shows I grew up with are on UA-cam now and I can show them to my own kids. I learned to read with Between the Lions, and my own little ones are now learning to read with Between the Lions too. It's a very surreal experience, being able to raise my kids on the same things I was raised on and watching them react to and enjoy those shows the same way I did.
Ice Cream Sandwich is another one who does his ads like this, animating holding his audience hostage while talks about...I don't even remember the sponsors he gets lol
I'm 54 and I get choked up talking about Mr. Rogers since he died. He was such a a good friend to so many kids. Nothing made me hurry home from school quite like Mr. Rogers. I still repeat things I learned on that show. He was my TV friend.
Me too. He is such a special part of so many of our childhoods. The warmth and love that he brought to so many of us will live on forever. I am currently pregnant with my first child and Mr. Rogers Collection is the number one dvd collection I want to purchase for my child. I will always remember when he passed away and how sad I was, even though I was so young.
Bob Ross was such a G. His show on PBS was never crowd funded. He funded it himself because he genuinely loved painting and wanted to provide a space for people to learn and explore the art. He funded it through selling his paintings, art supplies, and teaching art classes. Bob Ross truly loved his audience and painting.
I love how the Kratt brothers have been such a generational staple with PBS. Like almost nonstop they've been teaching kids about animals for close to 30 years. First they had Kratt's Creatures in the mid-90s, then Zaboomafoo, then Be the Creature, and now they're animated with Wild Kratts.
PBS was so fucking awesome. it meant the world to me as a kid, and Clifford, Martha Speaks, Sesame Street, Peep And The Big Wide World, Arthur, ETC made my childhood and i still go back and watch these shows every so often bc i love and miss them so much
The Count really is quite a clever gimmick. In a lot of early vampire lore, one method of escape was to throw a handful or rice or salt. The vampire would be compelled to stop and count every grain before it could continue any other activity, giving you ample time to escape.
You know what I said Sagwa was my shit but you just reminded me that actually Zoom was my shit and Sagwa was what you watch while you wait for Zoom. I remember Zoom as the cool show for big kids. My sister was dunking on me in front of her friends for watching Barney and my solid rebuttal was "I'm just getting craft ideas to send into Zoom!" Because we all wanted our crafts featured on Zoom, if we were mature artistic kids and not tiny diaper babies who unironically watched Barney at age 6.
I was too old for 64 Zoo Lane, but my younger sister watched it and the jingle "64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!" is ingrained in my brain because of her playing a game on the PBS website.
"i do not feel good, but this video must be created because people need to know about Elmo" that was so unexpected yet so respected at the same time 😭😭
When i was 3 i lived in boston for 6 months while my mom finished her doctorate thesis. My parents were scared of the US media, so the only thing they let me watch was pbs kids. Everyday i would get home from kindergarten and watch pbs for hours. I got there not knowing a word of english, and came out fluent. Pbs taught me english and also about a bunch of random stuff i love, 10/10
PBS Kids was such a relevant part of my childhood that when I was in 5th grade there was a proposition from my state's board of education to make the school day last until 4pm (it never happened). For a writing assignment, our teacher had us write out why we were for/against it in the format of a fake letter to the BoE. The main reason I wrote for being against it was something like "Arthur is my favorite show and it comes on at 3:30pm so if school went until 4pm I wouldn't get to watch it anymore :("
PBS is the reason I went to school and kept me from dropping out of high school. I found a love for science and learning though PBS. Now I'm getting ready to start a master's in planetary science.
It wasn't until this video that I realized how big of a part PBS played while growing up. I watched way more PBS than I thought I did, but I loved every minute of it.
I feel like tug has entered that reminiscent phase of his life either that or he just hates how the world is right now and is trying to hold onto those memories of the 90s.
True story I loved Sagwa SO MUCH as a kid, that one day I fell asleep in the car and my mom didn't wake me when we got home, and my first thought when I woke was that I missed Sagwa and I had a full blown sobbing panic attack. 😅 This video was a wonderful reminder of amazing shows that truly did shape my childhood! Tugg always delivers!
8:09 bro you unlock the big memory for me. Fetch with Ruff Ruffman was my favorite thing back in the day. Especially with all of the games you could play
Holy flip that just reminded me of Dino Dan- I remember I drew a comic of that once where one of the dinos breathed fire on Dan and burned him to a crisp 😂 Wtf was wrong with child me-
Hey Tugg, I love your videos! Mr. Roger’s was actually from a town in pa close to me! He was from a town called Latrobe, and there’s an overhang bridge on the highway in Latrobe that says “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.” And when I was growing up, there was also a Mr Roger’s play place which was a playable replica of the show set at the Monroeville mall, but they’ve since changed it to something else. The last Easter egg I’ll give you, is the Mr Roger’s dinosaur statue in Southside, Pittsburgh! It’s right in front of the Cheesecake Factory! If you ever go to Pittsburgh, there’s all kinds of Mr Roger’s Easter eggs throughout the city and the surrounding area!
I was a kid when PBS first aired, and I sat in front of the TV to watch Zoom, Sesame Street, and Electric Company among others daily. PBS was a mainstay of my childhood and that of my children. Barney (how could you forget everyone's favorite purple dinosaur?), Teletubbies, Arthur, and Caillou drove me crazy, but the kids loved them. If our TV wasn't tuned to PBS, it was on Nickelodeon when my kids were little. It was great to see them share and explore new ideas and take on serious social issues while not even being aware. Love PBS, and it's the only reason to have the TV on at all anymore besides sports. The news is slanted in one direction or another, shows are crap and have been for a long time (outside of The Middle and Scrubs); but PBS is still a place for people to learn about important issues affecting us today. Admittedly, they lean hard left, but that doesn't remove the fact that they do present fact, even when they don't like what those facts are.
Between the lions was my jam when I was a kid. My wife never heard of it and thought I was making it up when I told her about it. I had to look up clips for her to prove it was real.
19:37 I NAMED MY SIAMESE CAT SAGWA BECAUSE OF THAT SHOW SO *I KNOW ITTTTTT* I had that cat back in 2003 and had it until 2010 (she was a rescue so we didn’t know her age when we got her). Such an amazing kitty. All the other SAGWA lovers, show love down below 👇💜💜💜🐱
I weirdly have the sagwa episode about the Emperors new clothes fable burned into my mind and nobody ever knows what I am talking about I’m so happy to see this
Knew someone who also named their cat sagwa, except it was sha3 gua1 (傻瓜), which I'm pretty sure is what sagwa's name is in chinese so I am finding this hilarious. The literal translation is silly melon, but it essentially means silly goose, dummy, dumbass(in their case affectionate but it can be spoken with negative connotations). technically the cat's actual name wasn't actually sha gua, but the owner called them that more often than their real name lol
I will never for the rest of my life forget the Pride and Prejudice episode of Wishbone where the actor playing Elizabeth Bennet had to play a romance scene opposite /a dog/ as Mr. Darcy. Wishbone was truly wild.
I remember staying up late into the night with my grandfather watching PBS Nova and just loving it man, I also watched PBS Kids and Saturday Morning Cartoons which was Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z Kai, and just being real happy.
I didn't realize other people _didn't_ remember Sagwa. I was insane about Sagwa as a kid. That, Maya & Miguel, Cyberchase, and Dragon Tales. It's great for elementary school kids who are too big for counting and letters but still want to watch low/no stakes cartoons.
Big Tugg fan and I'm old enough to have watched the premiere episode of Sesame Street and the first moon landing on TV. Tugg neglected to mention that Monty Python and Doctor Who used to be played all the time in the 70s on PBS, and that was such an huge influence on me and my still active love of British television.
The Ken Burns episodes on country music is one of the coolest series I’ve ever seen. and Antiques Roadshow is the tops. Love the one where the older guy had a six figure Indian chief blanket that he kept on the back of a chair. The dude started crying cause he came from a really humble background. Damn that episode choked me up. 0:01
As someone who grew up with a mother who believed cable TV was the devil but PBS was just fine, I grew up on so much PBS Kids and a good chunk of this video was like walking down memory lane.

We were one of those 90s families who didn't pay for cable and mostly watched movies so PBS was so much of my childhood. I forgot about this show until tucker and you mentioned these! I remember watching the exact episode of the festival. That is actually wild. I think a lot of the chinese culture I still know about came from that show originally.
I'm wheezing so Sagwa would be 傻瓜? Literally named the main character dumbass(affectionate) lol.
I loved Sagwa. They were cats that wrote with their tails! :D
Also, it was the first time I ever saw written Mandarin, I genuinely gained an appreciation for all forms of calligraphic art from it!
Butterfly in the sky, I can fly twice as high, take a look, it's in a book, reading rainbow.
Grew up learning literature from Wishbone and Mr Rogers.
I distinctly remember first learning who both Atlas and Joan of Arc were for the first time from Wishbone.
Whenever I think of Sherlock Holmes I always think of Wishbone for some reason 😂 dog first THEN any other iterations...I owned SH novels lmao
Wishbone was the true vip. I remember him in Romeo and Juliet lol. Amazing lol
Yo Wishbone was produced by PBS? Awesome
Wishbone was MYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
Literally passed my AP Lit class on his interpretation of The Odyssey
One of the few creators who says, "Ready for an ad? Here's your fuckin' ad."
And all I feel is deep respect.
Ice Cream Sandwich is another one who does his ads like this, animating holding his audience hostage while talks about...I don't even remember the sponsors he gets lol
Yes. It makes me actually want to watch the ad. It's so strange.
Im not kidding when I say as a 31 year old man I started crying a bit just hearig you talk about Mr Rogers. He honestly means so much to my childhood
Me too. I’m 56 & that man was a big part of my childhood. Sesame Street & Electric Company as well.
I do my best to donate to PBS & NPR every year.
Mr Rogers was my first exposure to that “M4M” thing…
Bob Ross was such a G. His show on PBS was never crowd funded. He funded it himself because he genuinely loved painting and wanted to provide a space for people to learn and explore the art. He funded it through selling his paintings, art supplies, and teaching art classes. Bob Ross truly loved his audience and painting.
Dude people need to talk about wild krats more that show was my ENTIRE childhood and it made me obsessed with animals to an unbelievable degree
this feels like when a friend goes on a week long deep dive in to a subject and has to tell you all the crazy stuff he learned. I love it
I swear to go I will still watch Wild Kratts ANY time I see it on and I hold so much obscure animal knowledge from that show it’s insane.
The Kratt brothers are gifts from God to connect us with our animal friends. RIP Zaboomafoo ❤
Thank you for mentioning Cyberchase. That show SLAPPED
facts
PBS was so fucking awesome. it meant the world to me as a kid, and Clifford, Martha Speaks, Sesame Street, Peep And The Big Wide World, Arthur, ETC made my childhood and i still go back and watch these shows every so often bc i love and miss them so much
The Count really is quite a clever gimmick.
In a lot of early vampire lore, one method of escape was to throw a handful or rice or salt. The vampire would be compelled to stop and count every grain before it could continue any other activity, giving you ample time to escape.
I didn't know the count was hunting people 😭 I thought he was just a silly little friendly vampire but no he's hunting people
I remember X-Files had an episode with a vampire like that. He was compelled to untie his victims shoelaces or something
I'm gonna fall asleep to this *so hard* when I go to bed tonight

“Sagwa you’re my best friend!!!” OMFG that show use to come on before Zoom & 64 Zoo Lane! What a blast from the past 😂
You know what I said Sagwa was my shit but you just reminded me that actually Zoom was my shit and Sagwa was what you watch while you wait for Zoom.
I remember Zoom as the cool show for big kids. My sister was dunking on me in front of her friends for watching Barney and my solid rebuttal was "I'm just getting craft ideas to send into Zoom!"
Because we all wanted our crafts featured on Zoom, if we were mature artistic kids and not tiny diaper babies who unironically watched Barney at age 6.
You are the only other person I've seen on the entire goddamned internet who remembers 64 Zoo Lane.
@@Zowayix93 OTHER PEOPLE REMEMBER IT????
@@HungerGamesFan00 I'm convinced there are more unicorns in the world than there are people with recollection of that fever dream of a show.
I was too old for 64 Zoo Lane, but my younger sister watched it and the jingle "64, 64, 64 Zoo Lane!" is ingrained in my brain because of her playing a game on the PBS website.
"i do not feel good, but this video must be created because people need to know about Elmo"
that was so unexpected yet so respected at the same time 😭😭
When i was 3 i lived in boston for 6 months while my mom finished her doctorate thesis. My parents were scared of the US media, so the only thing they let me watch was pbs kids. Everyday i would get home from kindergarten and watch pbs for hours. I got there not knowing a word of english, and came out fluent. Pbs taught me english and also about a bunch of random stuff i love, 10/10
"Vampire with OCD" is brilliant because in some cultures vampires would have to count whatever things you threw at them lol.

I AGREE 👍
Oh man, bigg tugg might be the first influencer that I don't blindly take my opinions from, thats how bad that tierlist was
Exactly bro
I paused looking for it to, actually wild
Arthur and Barney appear in multiple tiers so I'm not gonna take it too seriously
Thanks!
Sagwa was my show. That intro was a banger. And when the letters changed so we could read it? Ah! Loved it
PBS is the reason I went to school and kept me from dropping out of high school.
I love how you actually do the research for everything. It’s cool to see another person who can enjoy comedy and appreciate learning and knowledge too
i've had that theme song for sagwa in the back of my mind my entire life and had no idea where it came from, thank you xD
True story I loved Sagwa SO MUCH as a kid, that one day I fell asleep in the car and my mom didn't wake me when we got home, and my first thought when I woke was that I missed Sagwa and I had a full blown sobbing panic attack. 😅
This video was a wonderful reminder of amazing shows that truly did shape my childhood! Tugg always delivers!
8:09 bro you unlock the big memory for me. Fetch with Ruff Ruffman was my favorite thing back in the day. Especially with all of the games you could play
Ruff Ruffman is a gigachad
Dinosaur Train is what got me hooked on dinosaurs and fossils and cool extinct animals since I was four.
Holy flip that just reminded me of Dino Dan- I remember I drew a comic of that once where one of the dinos breathed fire on Dan and burned him to a crisp 😂
Wtf was wrong with child me-
Hey Tugg, I love your videos!

There was a solid chunk of my life where I thought Between The Lions was just some trippy af fever dreams I had. 😂

19:37 I NAMED MY SIAMESE CAT SAGWA BECAUSE OF THAT SHOW SO *I KNOW ITTTTTT*
I had that cat back in 2003 and had it until 2010 (she was a rescue so we didn’t know her age when we got her). Such an amazing kitty.
All the other SAGWA lovers, show love down below 👇💜💜💜🐱
SAGWA YOU ARE INDEED MY BEST FRIEND 😭
@@Fen_Fox oh my god that’s amazing to learn!! lol my Kitty too was a bit of a silly goose 😂
I love that. Thank you
I will never for the rest of my life forget the Pride and Prejudice episode of Wishbone where the actor playing Elizabeth Bennet had to play a romance scene opposite /a dog/ as Mr. Darcy. Wishbone was truly wild.
THE SAGWA BIT JUST UNLOCKED SOME MEMORIES OMFG
I grew up with Sagwa on vhs and hearing that intro song just hit me in the face with nostalgia
experiencing pbs kids sounds like a fever dream when you try and explain it to someone
Every time tugg said
“a viewer like you” in this video I automatically whispered, “thank you,” to myself
I remember staying up late into the night with my grandfather watching PBS Nova and just loving it man, I also watched PBS Kids and Saturday Morning Cartoons which was Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z Kai, and just being real happy.
I did NOT expect him to bring up Cyberchase. God that brought back SO many memories 😂
"BOB YOU'RE A WIZARD"
Was far too funny
You didn't even talk about how PBS was almost single-handedly responsible for bringing Monty Python to America
Fred Rogers’ speech about it still makes me cry.
Me too. When he sing that little song to Congress, it melted their cold hearts. ❤

The fact that ms Rachel, pharrell Williams,ed Sheeran and toopie and binoo can be on the same show is WILD
Was Monty python and the holy grail played because I'm 17 and thatis my favorite movie ever

The Ken Burns episodes on country music is one of the coolest series I’ve ever seen. and Antiques Roadshow is the tops. My sister and I have bonded over crazy theme songs that remain engrained in our brains to this day, including Sagwa!
