- When having multiple cubs, pandas will usually only care for one baby and abandon the other, but switching them around might be the key for both twins' survival. Narrated by David Attenborough.

Natural World: Saving the Panda
Conservation has come a long way since the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was officially established as a charity almost 50 years ago on 11 September 1961, and the giant panda's story epitomises just how much has been achieved. Granted exclusive access to the world's number one panda research centre and reserve at Chengdu, this film follows the life of a mother and cubs from conception through birth and hand-rearing, to play and young adulthood - and the international team that care for them - over the course of 18 months. With archive footage, the film looks back at the extraordinary East-West collaboration that brought giant pandas back from the brink of extinction, and ahead to the radical, controversial and risky next phase: reintroduction into the wild.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of astounding, entertaining, thought-provoking and educational natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

The keeper is so kind and patient, not wanting to yank the cub from the mother's arms, and doesn't show an ounce of frustration or impatience.
The keeper wants to "keeper" arm! Lol
I mean of course, you don't want to be mauled by a panda.
I think the mother trusts the keeper implicitly to not harm her cub. Pandas are hard wired by nature to prevent the cub being separated from the body heat of it's mother for the first month or six weeks because of the risk of hypothermia. Even the keepers wrap it in a warming cloth when transferring the cub to the incubator to avoid a drop in body temperature.
So kind? Lol. You people are so gullible. China makes tons of money off pandas. That is also the only reason they don’t want the baby to die.

Kiera Haggarty like it said in the docu, panda's tend to abandon cubs if they have more than one
SilentEcho+ Yeah. But sometimes they die anyway before. Mama panda doesn’t have enough milk for two, so either she abandons it, or waits for the other one to die of starvation. At the end of the day, if both can live, then mama panda likes that.

Oh my god the way she doesn’t want to let them take away her baby is so heart warming
For those saying her cage is small or sad. She's probably only there while she's nursing. I'm sure it's easy to clean, quiet & safer for them.
Donna Mauer - the Chinese absolutely adore Pandas so I’m sure there’s a good reason she’s there. Like you said, quiet, safe and easy to clean.
@Jay Pandas are never really 'wild' animals. They should have been wiped out in the wilds left alone. Pandas are plain stupid and doesn't have the ability to live out in the wild, so captive is better. They were always dependent.
I replied this on another comment that was saying it was mean to keep her in a cage like this but this just the indoor part of her enclosure, there is also an outdoor part that she can access at any time. In the wild when pandas are about to give birth they will find a cave to nest down in to have their child and for a few weeks after birth, she’s choosing to stay in there because that’s what feels safe and natural for her. Also in most zoos the outdoor part is the area open for public viewing so going inside means she’s gets quiet and privacy to care for her new babies. When pandas are born they are blind and extremely helpless, it would dangerous at this stage to have rocks, leaves etc in her space. It’s also easier to keep sterile and clean as the newborns are also very susceptible to illness for the first few weeks. They spend most of their time tucked in their mother’s armpit where her nipples are, breastfeeding.
Yes. They are very much endangered
Yeah if they did anything to the pandas they’d think they were cursed

You didn't listen! The commentator said that the Panda allowing the carer to take the cub requires a great level of trust between the Panda and the carer.
She didn't 'trade' her cub for honey water, she knows she'll get her cub back, as she does each time! She just doesn't like having to part with the cub even for a little while, and quite understandably, given that cub is her only comfort.
I do think that small empty bare cage she's in is awful though, I hope that's just temporary for the purpose of getting both of the cubs fed by the panda! 🙏🏻

And the cute noises and the way the mama snuggles them.
@bull Zhou How many months after birth before they mature to normal baby strength?
@@kimtee8961 2-3 months
@bull Zhou they're not born prematurely. They're just born small because it's easier for their bodies to convert the little nutrition that bamboo (the staple of a pandas diet) provides into milk rather than to convert it into animal tissue so their cubs are born small so they can get the rest of their nutritional value through moms milk. It's a breeding strategy that comes with trade offs, unfortunately.
They werent supposed to be that big,but due to lack of enemy(animals) that get in their way to eat food, all they do in their adulthood was to eat and sleep thus becoming what you see in the video.
Why is this so beautiful to watch... Why are mothers so beautiful and peaceful?
These keepers are amazing and ever so patient swapping these baby pandas at a critical part of their babyhood. Thank you for your love snd dedication. 💖🐼💖🐼💖
I'm impressed with the devotion and dedication of the panda's handlers - swapping the twins up to 10x a day to ensure both survive.
Couldn't agree more this made my soul happy
Please read about "Panda Diplomacy" and you will realise why they are so devoted.
I'm more impressed how stupid are pandas, they are doing all their best to die and stop the specie and we're saving them just cause they're cute
@Guru Amirite it might just be that those people don't have enough funds or land to build a comfortable place for pandas. Although that's unlikely, there's no doubt that Chinese people love their work and love pandas. Pandas are one of the national symbols of China, and many do their best to take care of them, even if the pandas are behind bars. Also note that this is only one mother panda. Maybe this is the easiest place to tend to pandas with cubs, and afterwards they'll be moved back to better enclosures, with their friends. But who knows.

If anybody is asking why they’re in a such small space, it’s because Pandas in the wild go into small spaces to give birth. After that, they go back into the open enclosure.
