Blundstone cant be expanded, becasue of the residential area that it sits. It also has major restrictions on how many game a year can be play after 6pm and also has noise restrictions.
No Train, no carpark and it only holds 23,000. Even Newcastle has a bigger Stadium than this. Newcastle's population is less than half that of Tasmania. There is nothing wrong with the two current stadiums. The Taxpayer is being ripped off.
Well that just not true. Actually look into bellerive and to why its not suitable for a club. Where do the thousands of people who work during the week park?
@@applebyillustration2528 If Bellerive and Launceston are not suitable for AFL Football why are both grounds currently being used for AFL, International Cricket, BBL and A-League? The Stadium is just another lame Delaying Tactic from the AFL.
I'm not a sports fan but don't have a problem with the stadium. I'm certain there will be traffic and parking problems every time there's something on there.
If the two current stadiums are not good enough for a Tasmanian AFL Team, why are they currently being used for Hawthorn and North Melbourne games, A- League, International Cricket and BBL. This is a disgraceful waste of taxpayers' money.
They are keeping UTAS they are even upgrading it. Blundstone can hold less than 19,000 people and it's not a great experience for anyone sitting on the hill with that many people so the extra capacity at Mac Point will be great. There is also room in the design to add extra capacity in the future
How is this a shock to anyone? There is no way this is getting built for $750 mil. In saying that the state and city need it, imagine what it will do for the economy
For a billion dollars I would want 35-40 thousand seats, and looking at the number of people becoming members over four years out, I doubt they will have problems filling it, and the bullshit from the AFL that it must be roofed is a joke. (from Melbourne btw and Go Swans 🦢)
@Papa_bear_2046 Of course they could play in a open air stadium. It doesn't make sense to try and put a roof on such a low capacity stadium for an AFL sized ground.
Shite idea, no parking for it, our public transport is a joke. People claiming this will bring people from Melbourne here need to stop huffing so much copium. This stadium will never reach 100% capacity for anything.
U should do a video about where the AFL can expand next not in terms of teams but just expand the sport in general take a game or 2 overseas in the future
It’s really cool to note that this Stadium would only be the third of this type of stadium anywhere in the world with a roof and no retractable pitch. The others being Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, NZ - (built in 2009-11, 20,000 permanent seats and 9,500 Temporary Seats able to be added) and One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch, NZ (Under Construction, expected April 2026, 25,000 Permanent Seats, 5,000 Temporary seats able to be added.)
700 Mill for a whole 23000 seats! what a joke!!!!!!! 23000 plebs with nowhere to park and Hobarts bus system/disaster! what a joke!!!!! Expand the ferry network!!!!!! the whole 23 seats pmsl!
Why doesnt the AFL pay for it by reducing the salary cap?
There’s no public transport in Hobart only buses where are people going to park their cars from outside Hobart no trains
Where do the thousands of people that work in the city on a daily bases park?
They could always allow the homeless people of Hobart, who are living in tents, to move into the stadium when it is not being used.
Feels like we’re building a stadium for the sake of building a stadium. Surely just renovate/expand Bludstone Arena?
The AFL are demanding for you guys to build a brand new stadium, otherwise you will get no team. Simple as that
@@TNT_12 Well FUCK the ALF then!
How do you think the residents of Bellerive would react to an expansion? Where would people park?
@@TNT_12 In which case, the AFL shoudl be paying for it.

No stadium ever delivers on estimated cost
Make it a rectangular stadium to save $
I'm not a sports fan but don't have a problem with the stadium. I'm certain there will be traffic and parking problems every time there's something on there.
Waste of $$$
“Standing room seats”? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Why not include building an Underground Railroad?

How on earth can they expand the capacity in the future when it’s got a roof?
@@geohawk7 They are leaving a gap between the rear stands that they can add more seating too in the future. It's all in the design plans
Can guarantee this will blow out to $1 Billion
soooo i wouldn't care if it was 2 billion just build it!
Looks great can't wait to be able to watch the Socceroos and Matildas play games in Tasmania
Hobart doesn't need this
yes they do
This will bring a bunch of people from Melbourne every few weeks for hundreds of year pretty cheap cost for that.
Light rail system needed in Hobart, roof system is a good idea due to Tasmania's octapolar weather patterns
I think they'll end up keeping the seating design but doing away with the dome.

@Birdman_18 NFL teams in northeast USA play in open-air stadiums, surely Tasmania can also!

@pivot piece it’s not just people in Hobart who are against this stadium it’s all over the state
yeah he mentionsed the NIMBY and the greens. You know people with nothing better to do then stop progress

India or the West Indies imo. The game was created to keep cricketers fit after all, and they have oval stadiums already.

A great addition to Hobart. Actiavtes a dead area

10% increase in a year... live with it and move on.
Hobart will thank the AFL eventually.
What a disaster!
And apparantly the same size stadium in Canberra will be $3B.... with a B. The sooner Labor is voted out Australia wide the better
