Thanks for the video, let's me know buying Garmin was clearly the best option.
Appreciate the honest review johny!
Thanks for the review. I feel much better about my pre-order for the Mega Live. HB has always been great on their quality and customer service. I am glad that I have waited for this.
What a clear picture. The live scope has too much background clutter at 70 gain. You convince me to buy a live scope which was a great decision and I'm very happy with it. Bass Tank rules!! Now I will have to make another decision in 6 months or so to buy Mega live. Thanks for a great analysis.
Also this is on the crappy Helix that doesn't have a good pixel count compared to a Solix or Apex
Great video Johnny. Definitely not sold on the Humminbird Live. But on the upside of things it will make Lowrance and Garmin up there game
Your channel is very good, and there is no whining about people having observations about content!
Good job!!!
I love Humminbird, but I feel Garmin is leaps ahead with this technology
Garmin was first 🤷🏾♂️ and still the champion
For sure Garmin has it, everyone else is trying to catch up
Definitely Garmin. Being its Mega I would think it would look better but it looks like the first panoptix but hopefully it'll get better soon.
Doesn’t matter how you “feel”
Oh yes I agree livescope is way better but hummingbird will always be the king of side imaging
My livescope still has them all beat, but knowing hummingbird they will get it dialed in like their mapping system Lakemaster
Cool to see the sneak peek of the pre-release unit!
I was really hoping this was gonna be so much better than livescope I will stick with my garmin for sure
Interesting. But, I think this technology is still in the 'infant' stages. When the manufacturers get this to where the picture compares to side scan or down scan, then, I will be interested in buying. Your website is great Johnny. Thanks.
Took the words rite out of my mouth
Agreed, the 360 seems to be way more useful than this live tech.
Tell that to my livescope! It's a weapon offshore for sure...
Looks really cool. Can’t wait to see you open up the consumer model. And show it off.
I want to share the information the screen shots have me. 1st the bait and bass was holding between 20 and 25ft. 2nd the smaller bass was on the very top of the break line. 3rd the larger bass was suspended at the same depth, they were about 50ft away from the break line. The two key things I look for is depth and speed. I bet Jonny had figured out the depth with down imaging before he used mega live. What mega live shows is how the bass react to the lure. This is how an angler determines the speed needed for that day. This is why I commented about the fisherman's brain. while watching I asked how would I use this as a tool.
That was some good stuff. What was the name of the Universal mount for the transducer?
Man, it looks extremely useful to me! Hopefully by the end of the year I can grab one, it would be awesome to have paired up with my Mega 360. Thanks for the vids, Much Love!
At the end of your video you say your going to do a comparison video with all the units. Can,t wait. Another thing johnny,I like the way you danced around with your comment,so not to call out humminbird for there sub par forward facing unit..You were choosing your words carefully . Not what were used to seeing from you.Your still a class act,Great classes
Great to have an early view, good that it compares with the garmin but was hoping significant step above the existing units.
It looks about the same as the first generation of panoptix that I have used for 3 years now, and has been improved with livescope I hope it's cheaper to buy because it's about 3 years behind Garmin b4 it's even released
this is so awesome. Just bought a new Falcon F20. Wish i would have just had them throw it on. lol Johnny, im really surprised all the Pro's are not hiring you to set their stuff up and have on the water sessions with them.
Looks great, I'll take one and the 360. Of course a box of Bridgford Jerky would be great too!
I love my active target, but I'm digging it. Can't wait to see what its like when all of the bugs are worked out. Thanks for the vid! Nice sneak peek!
You don't seem to know Humminbird, a bug will be solved by adding two more bugs.
The tech is great ,although spending time looking for fish is not a lot a fun ,more like work , the forward looking sonar is changing the amount of pressure on the largest bass in a lake off shore ,like any new lure or bait the bass will adapt to staging around structure rather than on top .still enjoy how it works not sure how long any of this lasting without scattering the big fish though the system never know till the future of electronics stall or is there more in the future as fisherman demand better equipment .great show Johnny my favorite all time angler is Rich Clunn like your interview with one of the very best to fish for bass
Very well done as always Jonny. Clear, concise and thurough. Thanks for the review.
Important to note that Garmin forward facing sonar has 20 degree from left to right in forward mode, Lawrence has 18 degrees in forward mode and I believe hummingbird is 22 degrees in forward mode. I believe all three brands have approximately 160 degree coverage from top to bottom in forward mode. Two or four degrees doesn't sound like much difference but with those small numbers it is 10 or 20% difference depending on who you're comparing against.
Johnny can you you use one graph for both 360 and Mega live or do you have to have two separate units ?
Interesting but I’m an old school guy. You and Randy are the best! Appreciate the content the two of you put out!
I have never been a big hummingbird fan, but the 360 is pretty impressive, I think garmin still wears the crown. I was hoping for more of a leap frog like many others have said.
I love the information in your videos. I “look forward” to eventually seeing a mega live video showing crappie jigs. See what I did there. Thank you for the video.
So has bait tracking gotten better with the updates? Can't find anything on if the updates are making big improvements or not.
I’ll have to see what the consumer version will look like. I just got LiveScope and love it and now saving for the 360 and helix because your right. That combo is the best thing smoking
Great video, what is the power requirement for this unit?
About what I expected from a systems that doesn’t use a black box. Can you see fish and structure, yeah but definitely lacks the detail and clarity that the Garmin and 2nd gen Lowrance units have. Like Lowrance I expect to see another version with the box to boost the output of the sonar. Love my Humminbird units but looks like a swing n miss to me considering all they hype they put out.
The hype came from consumers tho. Not HB so to do a comparison against the hype is just a lack of intelligence and common sense
@@SVAHNA1977 wow thanks for the insight, and I’m comparing the product that their pro staff has made actually videos of and other branded units that have been out for years not “the hype”. Humminbird is great, I love mine but they should’ve learned from the mistake that lowrance made with their 1st gen. Units or maybe they knew and couldn’t get around the patents.
@@SouthernComfortOutdoors
Your last sentence say
“ …….. swing and miss to me considering all the hype they put out “
To me that say your comparing it with the hype…
@@SVAHNA1977 I was referring to them pushing the release back since December and finally releasing videos and it’s actually a less detailed image that’s what’s currently on the market. My guess is they will include the box with a 2nd gen unit like lowrance did if they can find a way to no infringe on any patents. Thanks for being concerned about my common sense though.
1499.00 with no black box and poor images robbery
First thanks Jonny for making this video. Second you wanted our opinion on Mega live. My opinion is it's still too early. Once the final version comes off we can choose what brand we want. Here is what no one has talked about. The fact is someone who is an advanced forward view sonar user can catch fish no matter what brand. Jonny you use your knowledge and brain to read what's going on with livescope, active target, or mega live. You know how to process the information. The fact is what the image looks like does not matter, if someone can not process the information the units are giving. People forget the human brain is what separates good fisherman from just ok fisherman. Both Jonny and Randy use their brains. They process information different. Both are really good fisherman. I want all the guys who are bashing the top three brands of electronics to stop and think, can I process the information and use it to be a better fisherman or am I worried about the image quality only.
P.S. I can process that Jerky on my next fishing trip
It looks like a mix of old school panoptix and livescope. If I was sponsored and it was free sure I’d use it. If I’m paying, I’d definitely choose garmin livescope.
Appreciate you and all you share.....!
Link says - expected to arrive in Summer. Why they are talking about fall?
Thanks John I have a new z19 on order and I love HB electronics.I am going to wait on the final product before buying like anythang in technology there is bugs that need to be worked out but so far looks good.If it isnt there is Garmin lol.
Johnny, you are a wiz at that stuff. I would be happy with a real good sonar, sidescan and down scan. I do like the hummingbird mega 360 that shows brush piles where I don't have to throw out a float.
Why would HB give the PROS a BETA version and not what they were gonna release? I would want the best version of what I was gonna release to the PROS 1st so that they can promote it in it's best form. I'm sure it may get better with firmware updates. We all know how those updates work out.
Gordon Pettie - I would guess HB wanted input from the pros so they could use that data to improve the actual release version.
@@tablerockkid8237 You may be right. I think they blew by doing it that way if they did. I was really hoping they would hit a homerun. 1st impressions mean A LOT. When I ordered my Livescope, the guy told me that MANY had cancelled their pre orders for MEGA live. I didn't pre order but I did hold out to see what they released.
Harvey is the man! Great review and sneak peek!
This is the best "sneak peak" I've seen to date. Thanks for an honest review. Having HB's mega SI/DI and 360, I was expecting it to be better than Garmin's offering or at least as good, and what I've seen so far doesn't even come close, so I'm a little disappointed. My guess is, this is what we'll get with existing units and if we want something better, we'll have to get the G5n or some such new unit that is designed specifically to handle the processing better. Just my thoughts, thanks for the vid. Keep them coming.
That would be a very bad business decision for Humminbird…..my assumption is that there will be an update for G3 and up just prior to shipping. Live is now officially in beta. They will take all the data and feedback from the beta testers and tweak everything prior to shipment.
Jerky sounds great. Thx for the info. There will be some form of live on my boat soon.
I’m going to wait another year. I think garmin and lowrance are ahead right now, but I fully expect humminbird to pass them both soon. I prefer birds for 2d and mega imaging so instead of buying a garmin for front I will wait to have all birds.🤞
Great review . I’m hoping I will soon graduate in ableness of understanding my 859ciHD to move to better equipment .
Johnny, great job as usual! The quality looked good for a beta version but it has a way to go to catch up with the competition. I run full hummingbird on my Ranger so I need this one to be great! Fingers crossed!
Thanks for the review! Looks like it will be a great product, as you'd expect from Humminbird.
Great review. Looks like it needs some work but a great start. I use 360 now and would make a good addition in the future
Appreciate all these forward facing reviews. I know you’d rather not fish shallow and since Randy won’t try it shallow, I was hoping one day you’d compare all of them for 10 feet to the dirt.
I figured this would be way better than my Lowrance live, but the lowrance is better from what i see.
Thanks for sharing, enjoyed seeing their early stages, I'm sure they will only improve it. With no black box or silly poles needed like other brands, this will only save anglers money for sure.
Maybe if they had the black box the image quality would be much higher!
Great video! Which sonar did you use to locate the baitfish and bass? Was 360 or side scan more helpful to locate them?
Check out this video. It will answer your question:
ua-cam.com/video/i0yglAtSwH0/v-deo.html
I have Live Scope and ordered Mega Live, IDK I feel Garmin shows a lot more and I can tell what things are easier.
Can you guys compare the Humminbird mega live imaging with the Garmin Panoptix Livescope LVS32 and then on the same structure so we can get a view of the same spot under water?
Greetings from the Netherlands
Quality of a Atari. Garmin over here with Ps5 images
It's because he's using the crappy pixel count of the Helix instead of the high pixel resolution of the Solix or Apex. Big difference
@@Lefishn Helix 12 and Solix 12 are both 1280 x 800 resolution.
Ikr not even close..Garmin got nothing to worry about..
I wonder if the intermittent interference is due to the wider beam angle than other brands and surface chop?
Jonny, what bait and what size you were using when you were checking to see if you can see your bait and it was going on and off screen? what was the water clarity??
That Mega live view looked very clear and uncluttered.
I tried a variety of baits from an 8in flutter spoon to a 4 in swimbait. They all showed up clearly, with the bigger baits being a little easier to see. Water clarity was 3-4ft.
@@FishtheMoment thank you for the reply
This tech is impressive but think I’ll wait for a couple years to consider purchasing. Can’t imagine what this will look like in 2 to 3 years.
in 2 or 3 years just think what it'll look like in another 2 or 3 years. there's always gonna be something better right down the road :/
always getting better, always getting more expensive
Looks like you're on Lake Swepco. There's some solid chunks in that pond.
nice, how is the lag in comparison to the garmin? i have both the garmin and the lowrance and the lag in the lowrance is really noticeable.
I don’t notice any lag in my Garmin Livescope. I haven’t used active target that much, but from my limited experience, active target and mega live seem very similar.
Great video but I think all the delays on the release have played into Garmin's favor from a marketing point and hb will have to step up with product quality exceeding that of Garmin to truly take a market share
Garmin seems to be on another level than these guys. The detail doesn't seem to be there with hummingbird.
Great content Jonny! All of the previews I've seen to date are on Helix units. Why is that? I have Solix, so I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger.
I would guess its because most will have a graph dedicated to mega live. Spending money on a large solid would kind of be a waste, if only using it to view mega live images
@@quantumguy82 I guess that’s a valid perspective, but what if you already have 2 Solix units, and want to add live? One of the reasons to hold out for the HB live product is that it will only cost you $1500 if you already have the graphs. Solix is the flagship unit for HB, so you would think they’d want to show some Mega Live previews using it.
First I'm a Hummingbird guy, love my Solixs. IMO, MegaLive doesn't look near as good as LiveScope. Not as fluid, looked like an Atari vs. an Xbox. Has a long way to go.
Also this was a crappy Helix with low Pixel count
Doesn’t matter. The sonar could barely track his bait. That’s not a resolution problem, that’s a sonar problem
@@Lefishn not true, the Solix and Helix have the same resolution.
@@2cthetruth all in the setup. If he was pointed bit offline of bait or sensitivity wasn't set right then would make a difference. They don't all come set right out if the box just like 2d,DI and SI
Oh yeaa!!! Let’s do this!
Thanks for the video Johnny, It was nice to be able to watch it in real time rather than a humminbird trailer disappointment lol I'm hoping they create a firmware where the processing of the image is smooth and consistent, if not then they may need to install a black box/ upgrade all compatible unit processors lol
Very nice. Thanks
Also remember he's using the Helix model which isn't even close to the Poxel count of Solix or Garmin Ultras. Pixel count makes a huge difference and if you did side by side you would see
Solix 12 and Helix 12 are both 1280x800
@@tomcruise9815 well all stats show 1024x600 for the helix
Man I ordered a livescope a couple of days ago. Looks pretty clear, makes me wonder if I should of waited a bit longer.
I had been holding out for the MEGA Live, waiting to see what they came up with. My tournament partner has had LIVESCOPE almost since it came out so I know what it is capable of. I was hoping HB would at least match. I know it will probably get better but from what I've seen they haven't even come close. I'm disappointed in that. I got my LIVESCOPE pkg yesterday. I do have all HB units on my boat otherwise.
You made a good decision, looks like they will need to make a second one in a year or 2 with a box to get it clearer and faster to match what Garmin and Lowrance have.
you made the right decision. The flickering of the fish on the mega live will drive you nuts. At least that's how I feel
@@NetBuddyFishing I was thinking the same about the black box. I have heard that HB actually put something in with the transducer that is kind of the black box that works in conjunction with the units software. I do believe they will have to make a separate one for better performance. All the pictures I've seen still seem very grainy to me.
Thanks for the video 👊🏻👍
thank you for the video!
Noobie here. Is the HELIX 7 CHIRP MSI GPS G3 NAV the network version? I see G3N is compatible, but I'm not confident G3 Nav is the same as G3N. Any help is appreciated. Thank You!
G3N is a networkable unit the N stands for networkable.
@@leaveorlibertyfishing7670 yes, that I understand. What does the NAV part of the description mean? That's part of the description on Amazon. 😀
@@northwestlife_9 pretty sure it is the built in GPS receiver built into the unit that accurately places you on the built in base map to navigate
@@leaveorlibertyfishing7670 yes that makes sense! sorry!
Sometimes they have a version with a Navionics map card. Maybe that the Nav.
Off topic but....................................what kind of gloves are those and where did you get them?
Huk fishing gloves from bass pro shops
looks like live scope/active target is better with imagery then the mega live.
I’ll be honest, I’m just here for the Jerky 🤣 lol but megaLive looks fire, if you can afford it…
Looks just like the old lowrance live sight. Not a game changer. Just like all new electronics that everyone is marketing. Know whats a game changer, just go out and fish with instinct. Lol good video
Awesome, but I'm not sure I'll ever buy one.
Just my 2 cents having used both this year.. I prefer perspective mode on the Garmin to mega 360. Forward facing sonar is a game changer! Excellent video
Love the review.
Nice review!
Like seeing the size of fish.
Here. We. Gooooooooo!
An infomercial for Humminbird. I’m sorry but it didn’t look as good as Garmin or lowrance
Jonny, were has bass fishing gone? I started watching your UA-cam about 3years ago and I loved the way you put out your content. It was great, seeing a regular guy using basic technology to catch really big bags.
Now it seems like you got to have the latest electronics, the most expensive graphs to get on the water. I think the wrong message is being sent that every bass fisherman has to run 4/5 graphs on their boat to be competitive. I hoping that at some point a someone will say enough is enough and set limits on the number of units you can run during competitive fishing.
Still love your channel and I know you have to make a living but please come back to us. Regular Guys that love the sport of Bass Fishing.
Check out this video I made about my fish finder setup on my boat.
ua-cam.com/video/87o6LtNRseA/v-deo.html
We were using Harvey's boat in this video and his boat and graph set up costs $50,000 more than mine. I'm still running a 2005 18ft triton with 9in fish finders. In the video linked above, I explain how I created a budget fish finder setup that is more affordable for recreational anglers.
99% of the time when I use my active target I can’t get the fish to bite. Always wind up turning it off. 🤦♂️
You’re not the only one buddy 😂
Lifetime Humminbird guy here..
1st.. I won't buy this til 2nd ( maybe 3rd version at this rate)
2nd. This is kind of a let down for how long we've waited..
3rd.. Maybe next year
To be hornest I don't like Mega Live image. I can't see my lure 15 m and more far away from the boat. In 15 m I see, but it is too close.
Awesome video Johnny! We all appreciate the honesty in your review. I can't wait to see more videos, and the consumer model once released.
I watch lake trout hit my lures 50 feet 0ut and 110 feet down while trolling live scope. That didn't look like hummingbird wouldn come close
I was really looking forward to Hummingbird's version, but so far am disappointed. You are just looking at various line blobs and not a real image. I also agree that the cutting in and out is an issue for tracking both your bait and the fish.
cool video. now wheres my jerky? lol jk great stuff johnny.
Good job putting lipstick on a pig. It looks like a blurry version of LiveScope. You are spot on about the brush and rocks, it looks terrible compared to LiveScope. I can count fish on a brush pile with LiveScope, it looks like a blob on MegaLive. The best combo is 360 with LiveScope, no question about it.
Garmin is still KING!
It may not be long. Time will tell.
@@mcconn746 I’m sure their next generation is already in beta testing. They’re just waiting their hand.

A friend just got one and I like my Garmin better
Thanks for sharing, it would be so helpful if their was ever a side-by-side comparison of the various forward facing sonars while looking at the same fish / features. Thanks again for sharing
That’s what I plan to do when I get my hands on the final version of mega live. Compare Lowrance, Garmin, and humminbird at the exact same time.
@@FishtheMoment It will be really interesting to see how you pull this off from a technology standpoint, 3 transducers mounted on the same boat? 3 different boats all side by side? Interesting challenge, confident you'll figure it out
