- With all the fuss going on with the other cars in my life, the Alfetta was starting to get a bit pissed-off, so I took her for a long run!! I also promised a drive review, so here it is!!
I can't begin to tell you the feeling of what it's like to drive a classic Alfa Romeo, sure the new ones are nice, the 159 Bobby reviewed recently is absolutely delectable, but somehow the older classics are the ones that most associate fond memories with, imho.
Enjoy the sound!! I always do...

Why i love classics? A 40year 2.0L old car sounds better than my 2.0L 2015 where the cvt is louder than engine note 😁😁😁
Ultimate car nightmare, this car with a CVT.... (cue ominous psycho-shower-stabbing scene music) the horror, the horror..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Of all the cars that you own, this is the one that I would keep forever if I were you! Nothing beats the glorious raw Alfa sound! And like you said (and also James May) it's a car built with lots of passion
Oh this is most definitely a keeper!! It came back to me after 8yrs remember? After owning and doing-up so many used cars, this time it was me that got a "second chance". I'm never letting this car go 😊🙏🏽👍🏾
My dad turns 61 next year, the only car he always mention to me growing up is the alfa romeo. Maybe i should buy for him a used 1980s alfa romeo just like yours Chris. Should be nice for my dad to enjoy his retirement.
Great power comes with great responsibility. You don't own an Alfa... You're married to it.... 😅
I had a 156😅😅
KCH oh man, u SO should la bro. That would be epic. Please make a video of you presenting the car to him if it happens!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏾😀
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yeah... At least i can give him his dream car that he can't afford to own when he was young. Hope can find one in Kuching. It will be a nice Christmas present.
@@malaysiadentist4637 thank you sir. My dad can't afford to own one when he was in service. I would like to repay back to him for something he always dreamed about.
@@KCHRider make his dream come true bro!
If not mistaken Chris, it wasn't only PDRM using the Alfetta during that era. Johor Custom used the same model too before they changed to Peugeot 305 gtx. Anyway, I was told that quite a few of the Alfetta were refurbished and continued to be used by Johor Custom for a few more years after the change.
Ooh thanks for the info! Yeah, that's definitely a possibility. Hope some of those are still running around JB too!! 🙏🏽👍🏽😀
I also keep a fire extinguisher exactly where you have it. Along with insulation gloves. Imagine the bummer of having an engine fire, *having* an extinguisher but not being able to touch the bonnet to use it.
Good point, well done, it's an excellent idea 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😊
I wish car manufacturers go back to basics with minimal electronics. Only then it will bring back the driving instincts in u.
Absolutely right!! Modern day cars are driving you, this car YOU drive it, and u better do it right or it will definitely kill you, hahahahaha!!😂😂😂
Chris..cant stop watching your walk around and in car drive of this magnificent Alfetta's..hope one day can physically see her live and listen to the sound of music..
Cheers Eddie, thanks for that, much appreciated bro, I'm sure one day u can 🙏🏽👍🏾😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage good to know bro..
Beautiful engine..what a sound. U can get addicted to the purring engine sound!!..havent get to drive an Alfa Romeo but love the car although into older Volvo's but this Feta model touches ur heart plus ex PDRM peronda & watching in 80s local movies. few uncles & dad's friend owned it during my childhood..so i have heard that sound back then when Fetas were still quite new & on the road during quite a few..
Thanks for the feedback bud, yeah, this engine sound makes me wanna go for a drive everytime I fire her up 😀👍🏾🙏🏽
Its the best feeling when you see all the meters are functioning!
Yeah, fixing the speedo and clock is definitely on my priority list 😁😁😁
@@ChrisWeevilGarage haha Sorry bro I comment while watching the first 3 minute, then on minute 5 you mentioned your speedo are not functioning. oh my god haha
@@najmifaizrosni4345 hahahaha!! It's ok, sometimes if I'm not using my phone to record, I turn on Waze to see the GPS speed, hahaha!! She can still cruise comfortably at 110kmh, purring along 😀😀😀
Royal Malaysian Customs also used Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 & 2000 in early 70s for their patrols .. minus the police flash lights and they were all brown in colours .. loved the sounds of the engine !
Yes indeed they did!! Good memory! Sorry, just saw this comment 🙏🏽😀🐍👍🏽
I love the engine revving! Nice!
Me too!! I'm wasting petrol but I really don't care, hahahaha!!😁🙏🏽
Bravo ,I like your rides with Alfetta, just a beautiful car...I have an Alfa 155 from 1996....make some more vids with Alfetta....
Thank you!! Yup, I will, stay tuned!! The 155 is a brilliant car too, I've had three of them in the past, hahaha!!👍🏾🙏🏽😀
So lovely. Great video thank you.
Cheers antiacus, thanks for watching and the comment too!!🙏🏽👍🏾😀
Hi Chris.I completed my MCE in 1978 and came to KL for my first job in 1979.I didnt know the public can own the Alfetta. i thought only police are allow to drive that because in my hometown we only see policeman driving them. My boss in KL own one.
Cop cars are often just regular cars that the public can buy, but kitted out with more cop-gizmos and task-ready upgrades. Under the cop paintwork and sheet metal they're exactly the same 😀
Commodore 64 came to Malaysia in 1982. I saw it first at the Malaysian Computer Expo in Wisma MCA😅
Hahaha!! Period correct then!! Thanks for the info bud!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙏🏽😁
beautiful machine, have you still got her? would be lovely to see a Kuala lumpur cruise, with the camera facing the dash so we can see you shifting gears etc, lovely interior, keep safe
Thanks!! Yes I still have her, but she looks a bit different these days, hahaha 😊😊😊
Also appeared in 'esok masih ada' film by the late tan sri jins..
Ooh, I gotta check that out!! Thanks for the heads up!!🙏🏽👍🏾😀
Love your motor. I just simply love Alfas
Thank you Greg!! Check out the latest video on this car, went for a long drive 😀🙏🏽👍🏽
It's amazing how we turn wants into needs and eventually into musts ...and before we know we we have far too many bini-bini besi if you get what I mean 😁😁😁
Totally get what u mean!! Hahaha!!🤣
Absolute beauty
Thank you Elmore!!🙏🏽👍🏾😀
My first 3 cars were Alfas.
Alfasud 1.3, alfetta 1. 8 and later a 2.0.
Lovely engines but poor electricals prone to rust, especially the Alfasud.
No regrets for the wonderful experience.
Spot on right!! It's a constant battle with what u mentioned, but also part and parcel of the ownership experience, lol!!🤭😁😁😁
I remember looking underneath. De Dion + Watt's Linkage IIRC.
Yup, correct. You were there the day I got this car in 2011!!😀😀😀👍🏾
Wow! My favourite is car. Symbolic sedan
Thanks for watching!!🙏🏽👍🏽😃
Hi..Sir. Brilliant look your Alfa💪👍👏
Hi Leow, thanks a lot man!! Appreciate that 🙏🏽👍🏾😀
This "cantante" really can make you grin like a Cheshire cat and it definitely bring out the kid in you😁😁😁
YES indeed!! So true bro, this car makes me grin like an idiot every time I drive it 🤭🙏🏽👍🏾😉
Blame it on that Italian heart and soul, the main culprit for the "effect" on you bro🍀👍🏻😉
@@weihotan205 most definitely!!😁😁😁
Haha😆😁😂
I'll record the Alfetta sound to play into my next Electric car. Still I Will miss the driving fun, the 5 seats, the 4 doors, the huge boot, the stability. So, I'll probably end up buying 1
Thats a great idea! I really hope you do. All the best and good luck with that, these cars are getting harder to find in decent condition, cheers!!😊🙏🏽👍🏽
@@ChrisWeevilGarage 👍
Dude....nice car man....and i do miss my old 1979 alfa romeo alfasud 1.3....boxer engine with weber downdraft carbs...and it had a 5 speed close ratio manual box...nice paint job ...but noticed some rust at your undercarriage, especially below the rear bumper area
Of course there is!! I'd be worried it wasn't a genuine Alfa Romeo if it didn't have a bit of rust on it....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yeah man agreed...hopefully your long term plan includes sorting out the rusty panels...i remember my alfasud had its entire firewall rusted out...and it was kept together with bitumin paste
@@poovaneswaransupramaniam19 actually, if u saw some of the earlier videos, the car already went for its first major rust removal job, what u see here now is recent. That's how fast it happens 🤦🏽♂️
Oh well, labour of love bro, labour of love...😊😊😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage agree with you man...Italian bella are a major commitment and a true labour of love
Looking at your video had spurred my interest in owning an alfas. Was looking at 156 on sales and interested in owning one. What will your advice be on getting the car back to tip top condition?
I've never owned a 156, the stories of its Selespeed issues kept me away, haha! I would say that the main issue would be that gearbox, so do try to find one that has had its issues sorted in that department. Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this comment 🙏🏽👍🏽😊
Beautiful car
Thank you!! Check my Playlist bud, she's been updated 😀
My late dad owned the 1.8 and later he bought the 2.0. The 1.8 looked much more aggressive with that quad headlights and I prefer its instrument cluster over the 2.0. They both had Dellorto carbs. Not sure whether the Solex or Webber gave more horsepower. Carello, Magnetti Marelli, Veglia Borletti, Borgo are names I don't hear much anymore nowadays. Oh also the golden lodge spark plugs. Yes it is about enjoying the drive but...the gearing is too low by today's standards. 3000 rpm in fifth gear = 100 km/h
Thanks for the great feedback Valentino, nice to read, and yeah, I don't heat those names much these days either, except Magnetti Marelli, cos believe it or not, there's a MM factory up north here in Msia, almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it 😀
Hey Chris, I remember you were talking about the long-distance shakedown drive somewhere in January 2020, where do you guys drive to?? And can any of us join the drive??
Yup, thanks for remembering!! It's a drive to Koh Samui and back, spanning 6 days, but so sorry, the field is full already 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😊
Now I'm very pissed off, hahaha. U rockfire, Chris. Now we are thinking to ambush police station store to find one like this.
Btw, I think the italian put 'saka' inside
Hahahahaha!! You won't find even a scrap of paper relating to this car at any police station anymore bro, the only acknowledgement it ever existed as a Malaysian police car is at the PDRM Museum 😊🙏🏽👍🏾
@@ChrisWeevilGarage we are going there, hahaha !
@@azlandin9911 go go go!! It's worth visiting for sure!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😊
What a clean interior
Thanks!! I'm also amazed that it's survived for SO long!!🙏🏽👍🏾😊
How do you manage to keep the alfa from rust, spray painting back the whole body & chassis? Am I correct?
CONSTANT battle to keep rust at bay. Not only was this car not anti-rustproofed, they used sub-standard metal making it, so yeah, many have rusted into the ground by now, lol!!😆
Haha I hope you can still maintain the alfetta in the long run. Really impressive as it is still running for a 40 year old car
Man...get the AutoDelta Alfa t-shirt please! 😆
I have a few Alfa shirts, lol!! I'd just come from a Merc event though 😉
Love the alfetta’s. I owned a brown alfetta 2.0 lusso built march 1979. I see here the chrome b-pilar and plastic emblem “ALFETTA 2.0”....strange.
‘79 had chrome steel “ALFETTA 2.0” emblem (in Europe).
Nice! I had that same one on the boot lid, but took it off before the wrap job 😀👍🏾
@@ChrisWeevilGarage think it looks cool, what color wrap, matte or gloss?
@@notton155 check my Playlist for this car bud, it's there 😀
@@ChrisWeevilGarage ah red gloss! wow these guys did a incredible job. Real craftsmanship.
@@notton155 yep! Thanks for watching, I wanted a classic motorsport inspired theme 😀🙏🏽
Chris, can i know where you service your alfetta?because i'm quitely interested to buy a 159 or the giulleta and i also want to know is there any official club for the alfa owner and i also need to know how t difficult is it to maintaining these italian beast😊
My Fetta is taken care of by Goodwork Auto in Old Klang Road, I'm not sure if they also do the newer models. As u know AR is no longer represented here officially, but there are still places specializing in maintaining the brand. U can check AROC & AROCKV on Facebook for a better picture 😊🙏🏽👍🏾
@@ChrisWeevilGarage thanks for the advice bro...👍😉
Old cars ftw!!!
Absolutely!! 😀😀😀👍🏾🙏🏽
very beautiful
Thank you!!😀🙏🏽👍🏾
Recently was told that we should get halon gas fire ext for cars as the powder will totally damage the wiring if ever it needs to sprayed on into engine bay.. 😅.. I think ace has them.. For rm99 per can
Nice!! Thanks for the feedback. Any fire in regards to this car will probably make some improvements to it, hahahaha!!!😂😂😂😂

Chris Wee, any update on the brick wagon?
Welding has begun!! Not rushing them, told them to take their time, shld be another couple of weeks more 😊
Hi chris, is it easy to find sparepart for the old car?
This one? Still can, but u need to know the right workshops like Goodwork & Alfatec, etc. 👍🏾😊
Hi Chris, I'm curious about what made these cars so difficult to drive compared to contemporary cars.
Hmm, it's hard to explain, but a novice driver will not be able to exploit this car, old skool driving techniques like double-declutching, heel & toe, trail-braking, etc all come into play when driving cars like these. That's why there are no cup holders anywhere in the car, your full attention is required, all the time. And that's why I love this car so much, you REALLY need to respect it or it will bite, hard... 😁😀🙏🏽👍🏾
@@ChrisWeevilGarage Well, that sounds nightmarish to me haha. Thanks for sharing.
@@yao1070 hahahaha!!🤣🤣🤣🙏🏽👍🏾
Just to know Chris, how much the price of that car since it was new? And also the topspeed that you have tried before? 🤔
Both no idea man!! I think it was less than 20k. I was still in primary school when it came out, and as for speed, my speedometer isn't working so I don't know 🤭🤭🤭
One thing though, it feels fast even when driving slow. Top speed is a manufacturer claimed 180kmh, but I'm not gonna even try to verify that 😁🙏🏽👍🏾
Chris Wee hahaha okay, copy that 😁🤩
@@muhdbadrulamin1997 I had waze going at one time while driving to Sepang, the GPS indicated speed was at 130kmh, I saw that and freaked out, slowed down immediately 😂😂😂
nice payong tongkat aa...
HAHAHAHA!!! Tqqqq! My custom boot strut 🤭
Hey Chris, what happened to your lovely w126?
It's still lovely!! Hahaha!! But undergoing a top end overhaul currently. She'll be back 😊👍🏾🙏🏽
@@ChrisWeevilGarage that's good
I think the car headlamp need a coating job. Looks blur already
Only one side is a bit cloudy, yup. But hey, they've survived 40yrs!!😀
Terbaik alfa romeo bosss
Terima kasih bro!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😀
Not about the speed....just the cruising and the feel.....btw bro...where is the brick wagon?
Exactly right! The wagon is now in the process of welding, should be a couple more weeks 😀👍🏾🙏🏽
Hmmm... Spotted an Insight. Is that yours?
Oh hell NO....hahahahaha!!!🤣🤣🤣
I love alfa romeo too but too costly in spare parts
The classics as well, but just the new ones. U can thank scarcity, and our Forex for that too 🤦🏽♂️🤭
I love the way u express the old car’s characters haha the review made the malaysian way bravo !
Alfa T-Spark next time can Chris???
Will see what or rather who's car I can borrow, stay tuned!!😉🤞🏾🙏🏽
Thanx. Looking fwd in the future. Matur Nuwun.
Manual gearbox was king those days...police officials cars back then until rust took over badly( alfa Romeo = always rust)🙅
If it doesn't rust, it's not an Alfa Romeo, might be a Toyota in disguise 🤭🤣
Did I see rust near the exhaust? 😅
That's supposed to happen, it would not be a real Alfa Romeo otherwise...🤭🤣
@@ChrisWeevilGarage yes absolutely. Forgive me Chris... I'm suffering from retrograde amnesia. But of course, rust and alfa are the thing that keeps the universe in balance 😂😂😂😘
@@malaysiadentist4637 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🏽👍🏾🤭
Sell me this car, I cant get that alfa back here in Kenya
Sorry to hear that!! And also sorry, but this car isn't for sale, tq for ur interest though!! 🙏🏽😊
@@ChrisWeevilGarage My pleasure.
