Great help, thanks. On my 2007, I needed to hook a small pry tool under each plastic cap to get them off. This was by far the hardest part of the entire process. 😂
Thanks so much for posting this! I did the repair as you described with a couple slights changes. Worked great! To bend the dash back, I placed a heavy weight in just the right spot for a few hours on a hot, sunny day. Again, thanks so much!
Crucial missing footage is how you remove those 2 plastic bolt covers. That’s because you need to really jam a small pick tool into the tiny gap and pry it off. You’ll probably do some rim damage to the plastic cover but that’s all!
I did apply the heat gun but the plastic is heavy duty, so I was afraid to apply to much heat and melt something underneath it. The bulge did diminish but it is not completely gone. Good luck.
just notices that same issue on mine. The plastic cover on the Phillips on my 07 are much harder (and different housing design) then yours and I end up dremel both of them out. Anyway, I did a temporary fix by hammer the spring back into the what left of the plastic housing... it will last a bit before I do the drill mod.
Hi, I just bought a 2005 Prius and she has the exact same problem, I'll be fixing it next week. Tell me, what about the dashboard bulge, did it formed back nicely in shape with the heat gun?
Great help, thanks.

Just used this video to fix my upper glove box that had been broken for years. Thank you so much!
Fantastic video. Amazing how you can find ANYTHING online thanks to people like you. Thank you.

had the same question - doesn't seem to be any way to remove them without damaging the little plastic pieces! oh well
I think it was a 1/8 drill bit, it just has to be slightly larger than the diameter of the spring end. Good luck.
Amazingly easy fix! Took maybe 15 minutes. Thanks much.
Just picked up a 04 myself and I have the same issue. I will be fixing mine tomorrow! Thanks!
I used your excellent drill-hole approach on one side and I'm trying epoxy on the other let's see
Great suggestion for the repair. You fixed it a few years ago -- the plastic didn't break again (through the drill holes, perhaps), did it?
