- An excursion to Sweden's county Dalarna - and the best places to see at Lake Siljan, Tällberg and Leksand.
What do you imagine when thinking about sweden? Do you think of red cottages, scenic lakes and pitoresque little villages? There is one county where you will find all of this. Join our excursion to famous lake Siljan and Sweden's most Swedish province Dalarna.
After doing a quick detour over Fulufjället Nationalpark we were heading right to the heart of Dalarna: to famous lake Siljan. Because I had heard so much about the area we spent a whole day at the lake to discover it's most scenic places. Here are our must-visits:
- The scenic village Leksand. Have a stroll through the tiny roads and enjoy Sweden's most famous desert: Sarah Bernhardt.
- Leksands Hembygdsgårdar: An open air museum in Leksand, that has several old houses that gives you a feeling, how life in Dalarna was several hundreds years ago
- Leksands Kyrka: The church is one of the largest rural churches in Sweden and the oldest parts of the building are from the 13th century
- Pay attention to all the red houses around the lake: Dalarna is the birthplace of the traditional red painting for cottages. The color is called Falu red - and it’s named after the mines at Falun in Dalarna, where The pigment historically originated from.
- Have a swim! Lake Siljan is swedens 6th largest lake. It is the result of a meteorite that hit the area 377 million years ago
- Visit Tällberg: All houses in Tällberg are made out of wood!
- Have dinner at the Green Hotel in Tällberg and watch the sunset!

Born and raised in Dalarna and still living here. So glad you enjoyed your stay! Fun to see and experience my "backyard" through someone else's eyes.
Can understand why you are living at this beautiful region of Sweden! 😍 thanks for watching!
I was thinking the exact same thing when they went through Jämtland, my home county! 😍 It's fabulous to see the beauty through someone else's "virgin" eyes so to speak. ❤️
Well, you're in luck. I am jealous now because this view is ..... just breathtaken.
Wieder ist Dir ein wunderschönes Video gelungen. Danke für's Erstellen und für's Zeigen.

Watching this gave me the idea of what I am going to do.
I loved what you showed of Dalarna. Very beautiful, thank you Lea!
Verry nice. I have driven all that roads in 2020. But not swiming in Siljan... Fantastic filming. Thanks Lea.
Oh that is definitely a to do - hope you added some other lakes go swim in!
wieder eine sehr schöne Episode. Toller Schnitt und ein "gutes Auge", wenn auch ohne Sonnenbrille ;-)

Absolutely love that you put in Swedish national anthem ❤️❤️❤️ and other beautiful music 👍🏻
No doubts at all, sweden is so beautiful.. Thank you for showing us this beautiful country. Love from India
All that you’re doing is making me jealous that I’m not there. So I guess, I’ll do what others are doing. Live vicariously through you and your videos. Truly beautiful but looked like a cold swim. Thanks for sharing your view of this wonderful world of ours. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
Thank you! This swim was actually not that cold - because temperature outside for Sweden was burning hot. 😂
@@Got2Go Well Dalarna is roughly 61° N latitude and I’m roughly 29° N latitude which puts on a latitude line with North Africa. So it would pretty cool for me. But still a beautiful place. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
P. S. Has the snow melted yet in Switzerland? I hope you can get out on your bike. Any hope of getting your Yamaha out of Africa?
Working on the Yamaha (you guys will see soon hopefully!!!).
I was just skiing in Switzerland today - so there is still a lot of snow ☺️

Very2 nice place, 👍👍👍👍👍👍Iam waiting for next???
Always coming a next video and a new journey! ☺️
Wonderful travels. Thank you. We hope you found some new sunglasses.
Yes - but they are not as nice as these were! 😂
Very nice video, thanks for sharing!!
Thank you for watching!
Wunderbare Bilder Lea ! Ich will auch mit meinem Motorrad nach Skandinavien. Grüße aus dem Bayerischen Wald 🙂
Dann: auf gehts! Wobei ihr mehr Kurven habt! ☺️
Dalarna is a very nice place in Sweden. I've been there few times. It's very nice and beautiful. I live in Åmål. It's few hours to Dalarna.
Thank you for a nice video 😎👍
Thank you for joining the trip - even though you probably know the area better than I do! ☺️
Lea, Everything is just picture perfect. I am not surprised you have taken so many weeks to get here and that you stop so often to take photos. And from the air it is even better. The beauty of Europe vs. N America is you have natural beauty as well as 1000's of years of history as well. Awesome episode..... I know I keep repeating myself
A genuine Dalmas ✌ I have lived in Leksand my whole life! Love it here .!
Sehr gut again Lea. The old bike is looking a little battle worn but still keeps going. I see you manage another sweet delight snack, it looked yummy. Swedish countryside, what more can be said. I hope you get yourself some new sunglasses soon.
Already got some new ones - but they are not the same! 🥺
Thanks Lea. I live in São Paulo, Brasil and i used to travel through south america with my GS 1200/19, before covid. I like your work. Congratulations
Oh I hope that you enjoyed your trip before COVID hit! South America is such a great place!
@@Got2Go was fantastic trip. I went from São Paulo tô Ushuaia and the other places. Wonderful
Nice to see places I have camped at. Like Oxberg lägerplats.
Its definitely nice to be north where there is less people and more nature.
The video is so calming 👍makes me miss Sweden
Me too! It was such a great place! Hope your trip was as nice as ours!
Hi Pam!
Sweden is still here waiting for you and your motorcycling friends to visit. 🇸🇪🏕😊
@@JoonesAdventuresOutdoor I am waiting for that opportunity again!
So very pretty and you had such amazing weather too 😍 Shame for the sunglasses though but sounds like they had a good life 😆
Yes - and so there is space for a new pair now 😂
Nice film
Thank you!
Well filmed as always your now enjoying great weather. Buy some superglue!
Yes, guess I have to add that to my tool list! 😂
Thank you so much 👌
Again a great view on Swedens beautiful scenery. Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching again!
Just found this gem! Thank you for sharing your trip. I used to work at Green Hotel as the sous chef and lived in one of the houses you passed while filming. Hope you enjoyed your stay. :)
Most beautiful sunset ever!
Thank you!!!
The history of red begins with a desire for more. And some greatness madness. In the 16th century, the Swedish king wanted his castle to be made of copper, just like the really big castles in Europe. But even the king could not afford copper for an entire castle roof, so the solution had to be to paint the roof with red paint made of pigment from Falu Mine. In any case, it looked almost like copper. And after that, a trend started to redden parts or all of the buildings so that they would give the impression that those who lived there were very rich. Red-colored walls at least about the brick walls that the Swedish greats sat when they rested around in Europe, but they could not yet afford any brick. During the 17th century, lots were built in Sweden and the expensive red color spread in the upper social classes. The king was a great inspirer, or an influencer in his time. For what the king did, the nobility wanted to imitate. Painting red was a way of asserting their status in society and the nobles soon began to paint red as well. The king gained more and more followers over time. To elevate its status, the church began painting the vicarages to make them appear to be built of expensive bricks. And when the nobility and the priests began to paint red, the military did not want to be worse, as soon as the offices of the high-ranking officers were red. Ever since, more and more of the military's buildings have been painted red, and even the soldiers' crofts turn red over time. In the 18th century, the color red was still seen as something very exclusive, and a luxury item that only the rich could afford. Having a red-painted house was a status symbol. It was therefore common for the side of the house facing the road to be painted red, especially if the king were to visit. Then the houses along the entire main street could be painted red, while the alleys and walls towards the courtyards were left colorless. But towards the end of the 18th century, the industrial production of red paint began at the Falu Mine and it became possible to produce cheap paint. Now the big farmers are also starting to paint their houses red.
Oh wow, thank you for this super interesting history lesson! A castle made of copper - that would have been something! ☺️
@@Got2Go Original Falu red was more like red bricks in color.
Trends during a couple of hundred years has slowly made it more red than brick coloured.
Viaggio fatto a giugno del
2012 unico e meraviglioso
Again a very nice video. Was this filmed end of summer last year? Because of the beautiful sunny weather and all the leaves are still on the trees. Big thumbs up.
This is just so scenic . Sweden is now on my to do list ( On a Japanese motorcycle)😁
I can understand that - I hope my next trip can be on a Japanese motorcycle too! 😂
Hello, I follow you from Spain. I got hooked on your channel for the trip to the North Cape that every biker wants to do but the more I see, the less interest the North Cape produces. however I love the rest of the trip. it seems incredible to me. a trip to do it in 3 or 4 months. so many amazing places .... I loved this chapter. In such a stressful world, your videos give me a feeling of calm and peace that I would not know how to thank you for. thank you very very much
I love this thank you. Liked and subscribed ❤️
I am from Dalarna. Such a beautiful region.
So beautiful!!! I love sunsets, like painting with the window as a frame.! Sorry for the drone, hope everything it’s ok.
Thank you! ☺️
You will see in the next episode what happened to the drone!
I like your blog very much..And I love that kind of adventure.keep it up..❤❤❤
I’m so sorry about your sun glasses. They must have brought many happy memories for you.
I can see my house in the drone shots from Tällberg!!:-)
Einfach nur schön 😻 ein Traum! Wie kann man nicht verliebt sein in Schweden! Geht garnicht!
Hi ya Lea and travel partner yep absolutely loved them wooden house's fantastic carpentry..gorgeous sunsets and mesmerising Drone flying. So soooorry you broke your favourite sunglasses really enjoyed this vid...and the swimming well what can a bloke say but wow 🧜♀️🤭 see you next Thursday night adventure outstanding stuff 🤗🏍👍✌
Thank you dean! Always a pleasure to have you traveling with us!!! Hope you didn’t get a sunburn on this sunny episode! 😂
Traveling in Dalarna is like experiencing Sweden in a miniature. The mountains and the Sami culture, the lakes and mountains, the red cottages, the craft tradition and the exciting industrial history.
Nice =)
Well, now when I think of Sweden, I imagine your amazing videos and how great you were able to share the beauty of this Country!! Thank you Lea! 👍👍
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. They are always a pleasure to watch.
Hi Lea
It was very special to see the river crossing on a railroad track 🚂 the nature and village's are stunning, can't wait to see the next video.
Yes, I didn’t imagine Sweden to be so versatile and nice to ride!!!
I have Swedish ancestry and my grandfathers last name was Swedberg…I would love to visit the country if I can
Nice video 👌🏼
Thank you!
Every video becomes a favourite! So much effort must go into preparing these - well every second is worth it. 👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you for this compliment! ☺️
Your videos has become a favorite, live at the cost in middle Sweden and was thinking about to go the vildmarksväg last year but I didn't got the new car as planned. This year I have to go! It's so nice to have the wiew of an foreigner, it's like a whole new country in yours wiew and I live just a couple of hours away! I'm just like, missing the wiew of south Germany and Austria on my bus trip to skiing in Sölden. 😜
The houses are beautiful. So many beautiful lakes to relax at. Every little village would be tempting to stop at and sample the local food. As always, thanks for posting this. 👏👏👏👏👏👏✌️
There are just too many nice lakes in Sweden - wish I could swim in all of them! 😂
From a Mora bo. The Leksand church is a beautiful monument of a long tradition
Brothers in war, rivals in hockey
Wow! Pretty amazing scenery. What did you have to eat at the Green Hotel? The view definitely puts that on my list. The weather here has finally turned warm. This past Sunday I was able to get out for a long ride. As far as the sunglasses - don’t feel bad. I dropped my Maui Jims the same way about a week ago. Just as you, I had enjoyed them for 4 years. Not a great feeling I know and commiserate. But Hey, it happens. I love your videos! Best!
That’s a good question - I actually don’t know anymore! When I don’t film things I sometimes just forget them. 😂
Oh that’s so great - the riding season starts again! I as well have some new content waiting for you guys when I have finally finished the expedition north! ☺️
In german we have the saying that if you share your misery with someone else it’s only half as bad - so thanks for your glasses story! 😂😍
I remember. ♥️
Stunning scenery - what a place to live - beautiful. LoveLy video - great footage. Thank you. 👏👏👍
Thank you for joining the journey!
Yes i love the red buildings and the places you visited, all looks beautiful...
Thank you!
Funny that you always long for a motorcycle adventure in some distant country. then you get to see this and see that it is actually fantastic at home, thank you. very nicely filmed.
Bury the sunglasses next to the license plate :P
😂😂😂
What do I think about when I think about Sweden, you ask? I think about how I wish other countries followed her lead re. how she handled the Covid-19 situation. My country, and many others, could've learned much from her. Thank you, again, for your delight-full weekly contributions.
Sweden could do with a bit more mountains but it’s still a very beautiful country.
I also loved the gravel roads in Norway and Sweden. Just park the car and go for a long walk. You will be all alone and no sounds of any motorized equipment or vehicle; just the wind, water and animal sounds 😎.
Roofs on old wooden buildings in Norway are often made of wood with grass growing on it; great isolation.
I visited a meteorite crater in Norway but you could only vaguely make out the rim of the crater.
Yes, mountains are always nice. But since the alps are my backyard I as well enjoy being in different landscapes a lot! And you are completely right - the alps feel like a busy place compared to the north! 😂
@@Got2Go I know the alps well. I had my summer holidays in the Austrian, Swiss and French Alps many times and over the years it got more crowded. That’s why I went to Norway (4x). Norway is very expensive so the last years I went to Germany.
My country is very flat. The largest “mountain” is about 120m above sea level.
Enjoyed watching as always. Looks a very nice part of the country to visit when our turn comes to head up North.
Yes, you should definitely put it on your list - especially if it’s a nice summer day!!!
Ich freue mich, Ihnen auf Ihren Reisen zu folgen. Auf diese Art kann ich schöne Länder besuchen, in denen ich noch nie selbst gewesen bin. Und als Extra Ihre Gesellschaft. ;)
Hallo Ed! Schön, dass du wieder dabei warst! Bis zum nächsten mal!
Nice video!
It took me a while to find that bridge. So for the others, it's Oxbergsbron (Spjutmosjön, Mora) :)
Wow, that is great research! I couldn’t find it anymore myself! 😂 otherwise I would have included it in the video!
@@Got2Go I must add here that this summer I managed to visit this bridge on my own motorcycle. So thank you again for inspiration.
Wieder ein schones video, dankes fur uns mit zu nehmen.
Gerne! Schön, dass du wieder mit von der Partie bist!
That was the most enjoyable 11 mins of my day so far
That area looks so relaxing and obvious picture perfect scenery
Makes me happy that the video made your day better! ☺️
beautifull village and landscape ....sweden by the small road is a good road trip
Yes it really is! 😍
Wonderful
Hi Lea, good day. It's lovely to watch your new Episode of traveling to Lake Silijan & Red houses in Dalarna region of Sweden. I've enjoyed your journey thoroughly. Thank you for notifying me.
Thank you for your comment!
Just adorable 🥰

Sara Bernard was an opera singer in the late 19th century but he cake is named after her - more often it’s called a Biskvi or Choklad-biskvi. It has a foundation made of almonds and eggs and a topping of chocolate cream and more chocolate.
So nice
Great video, thanks for sharing Sweden 🇸🇪 , I feel all relaxed after watching your video enjoy your next trip, looking forward to next video 📹😀
Thank you! ☺️
Thank you for your new video Lea. It was fortunate you had the village to yourself to be able to film the tour without people in it!
Yes, everything was pretty empty - guess it might be different in a non COVID year though...
Another fantastic video, a scenic feast for the senses, the only thing that could improve these (for me) was if the music by Clannad or Pink Floyd (the melodic stuff) I'm so looking forward to when I can binge watch the lot in one hit, lovely!!
That would improve it for me too - unfortunately I can only take royalty free music for my videos, that’s why I can’t take any of the songs I listen to normally. 😒
@@Got2Go Of course yo can't pay massive royalties, I'd forgotten that small detail, sorry, looking forward to more beautiful Scandinavian vlogs
If I reach a million followers maybe then I can make a video with Pink Floyd music 😂🥺
Leksand is my hometown, and I appreciate your loving, sensitive approach. I am desperately trying to find a way to travel back to the Siljan area with my father, who may not have many years left. Thanks for renewing my inspiration and dream!
That’s indeed a beautiful town - and taking your father back there sounds awesome! ☺️
So nice Dalarna rural town! What a wonderful view...👍🏕
Thank you! ☺️
I shall be saving my old facemasks from now on just in case I ever buy an Italian motorcycle!
Beautiful episode, vielen Dank!
Yes, and better save a lot of them! 😂
Beautiful video with - as always - beautiful music!
Thank you!
Thanks for putting this on my bucket list! I second what someone else has commented already - I think this is probably one of your best episodes - and you're starting from a ridiculously high level!
It makes me happy that you liked this episode! It’s sometimes not so easy to find the right balance between riding and “culture” - I am always waiting for someone to comment: “why the hell do you go to all these churches and old rotten huts” 😂
The roads always seem to be very quiet, I love the way the houses are Dotted all over, plenty of space. Fantastic sun set and drone footage. Very nice.
I think the COVID season kept roads more empty than usual! ☺️
Beautiful the city, the lakes and the houses all red. Thank you, Lea.
Thank you!
