I prefer drummers that are complex and not so disciplined, i.e. real jazz drummers :) But I respect Gadd as a tight pop drummer. He was great with Al Jarreau in 1980 for instance.
@@Thirdwind2 I'm 55, but my young band mates (20, 25, 25, 29) have about the same opinions on Steve Gadd. That he is dry and stiff, and that his triplets in soloing sound frustrated ;)
@@Thirdwind2 Well, to me, that american urge for personal cults is kind of silly. There are literally thousands of great drummers and other musicians in Europe, Latin america, Asia, Africa ... (The problem is just that most americans never hear them.)
Chick Corea: Hey Steve, I need a drummer. I want an awesome rendition of Spain, can you come up with a part? Steve Gadd: Sure, RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL That's how you can tell that man is a legend, any drummer can play those notes, but few can play them like that. What a legend (both of them)
This vidéo is showing two musicians I follow for long now. One has passed away. RIP Chick. The other is my favorite Drummer since the eighties when I discovered him playing with Michel Jonasz and then with EC. Long life Steve
thank you so much for sharing these videos. Yesterday I saw them here in Brazil, it was stunning! Till now I was looking for some video to remember how amazing it was...
The wondrous beauty of artists doing what feels right for the moment... the room... the audience... I SO appreciate the whole band just flowing together. Blessings to the whole crew. Peace, C.
I love this performance of, “Spain”, Steve Gadd and the rest of the band were amazing. I miss Chick so much, I met him at the Blue Note in 98. He signed my, “Where have I known you before” album. He was so cool and friendly. Miss you, Chick!
Corea and Gadd were a team like Lennon and McCartney for the Jazz/Latin world. I like Gadd's use of 4 brushes, it mirrors Bonham's use of 4 sticks on "Four Sticks", Zep IV. Even the great Steve Gadd was influenced by Bonzo, the King of Rock Drums. Correa is likely jammin with Bonzo now, RIP.
It sounds good. I've never seen it either. My guess is he did it to get a bit of extra volume, so he could keep the brush sound and get a little more dynamic range instead of using rods or rutes.
RIP, Chick - your talent lives on in our hearts!
I'm so Gladd I watched this.
Nice pun you got there Chadd.
Sorry for thadd
Gadd never ceases to amaze me...so simple and so disciplined, and so perfect. Always.

@@herrbonk3635 Mmmmh......... How old are you?

Anyway, No Gadd..... No Weckl & many many others....

the RLLRRLLR bit with the kick hats kick hats ostanato is deceptively tricky too! gonna add that to the warm up
Where is that?
Single stroke ruff with double brushes. I could never play this.
L
Percussionist helps with that feeling ;)
I will miss you Chick and your unforgetable music. R.I.P.
I was there that night and I loved the band!!! Gadd is one of my favourite drummers of all time ✨🎶✨🎶

Thanks Chick and Gadd for that opportunity for new talents, Thanks bless u guys.
Such a beautiful spirit to that music! Makes me glad to be alive! What more can I say?!
It took me 3 minutes to actually realize that the one and only Gadd is playing with 2 brushes in each hand... Sounds great.
Great Luisito Quintero!!! Pure tanlento Venezolano for the world. Super proud to be Venezuelan. And of course great teacher gadd and Korea.

Now Chick has returned to forever. We miss you, but we will meet again. ❤️
Just simply AMAZING!!!
a breath of freash air, pure music with out a million distractions
Steve Gadd is simply joy defined. I play upright, this is my earthly hero.
Amazing Band
Isto é música! E que música!!!
So nice the people responding to the piano notes!!!
Thanks master of the groove!
Gadd is a god of drums!
My 3 week old boy only falls asleep with this - especially when the beat starts at 1:43
I bet he has marvelous dreams!
RIP Chick...😢😢😢😢😢💕
Looks like the master still laying down the good groove.
Man ,that rhythm section!!!
What a joy to see Gadd playing with three brushes. wow.
I enjoyed myself very much!

The best of the best. Corea / Gadd
Gadd , the legend
Steve Gadd is genius. R.i.P Chic your legend lives on.👏🤝
Oh wow!
中学1年にしてこれを生で見れたのは今思い返すとほんまにやばいことなんやなって
What a piano intro!
Will miss you forever Chick, rest in peace 🙏
Bond! Bond. . . demais!!!!!
Hey guys, I've been wanting to ask, could someone tell me what audio mixer Gadd is using in this video?
Dude made the people clap jazz 😂
What a poet!
He put out some good music. RIP
So at 1:43 Gadd starts playing with 2 pairs of brushes. I never saw anyone do that before, cool!
The loss of Chick is just so hard to take.
i need to hear the live version of like i was sayin
Huh, so Steve holds two brushes in each hand? That is very interesting, gonna have to try that.
9.31 and then we're into it again :)
Feel.....
👏🏾👏🏾
If this was in California I'm pretty sure I was there
Took me about 30 seconds to realise it was a video not just a photo
tanto semplice quanto maestoso ...
Gadd....
Is this a cellphone recording?
guarantee it is. crazy how tech has progressed in the last 10 years
👏👏👏👏
15" hats with Gadd?
Gadd Damn!
in case u weren’t sure this is a (fast) samba check out the snare
eargasm :)
👍👍👍👍👍😎🥁🥁🥁
Amazing Gadd still bothers to play.
The double stroke is real in this vid
He is mixing both all the time
Good 👍👍
Wow

Four brushes!
Four brushes?👌
RIP Chick :::(((
We should really teach our kids more music and less science, the World will be a better place! ❤
This tune should be the Spanish National anthem.
How many brushes? Amazing build ;).
Only clap when you are required to folks!
🌱💙🌷🙄
Concierto de Aranjuez
Хороший расколбас!!!
..without Gadd Dave would have been something else...
GBuckne dave who? weckl?
GBuckne Dave who, please?
Weckl
GBuckne ~ Uh, yeah... Probably better to say "Weckl". To own "Dave" he'd have to wait in a pretty long line. (Personally, I went straight to Brubeck.)
chick playing with the audience haha :D good job audience
I thought Corea was on drums at first
Obama on percussion
jazz: a thousand chords and 4 people in the audience......pop music, 4 chords and thousands in the stands
I love both
Yes like comparing dirt and diamonds isnt it?
Steely Dan: Jazz chords and thousands in the stands.
Oh man...please keep Gadd and Corea and sack the rest...PLEASE.
Don't think I've ever seen someone use 4 brushes when playing...and I'm a pro musician who's actually played w Gadd.
It sounds good. I've never seen it either. My guess is he did it to get a bit of extra volume, so he could keep the brush sound and get a little more dynamic range instead of using rods or rutes.
...and Gadd, being ever self deprecating says he does that 'so I can sound like more than one guy'! He is a comedian too!
doubt it
It’s great to see that Barack Obama got a conga gig!
Transformed into a samba rather than a flamenco.
jayson biggs Actually, it has never played as flamenco...
McDonalds: Hi can I help you?
Steve Gadd: Yeah I’ll take two burgers, two fries...oh and TWO BRUSHES !!!!
Mmmm la batería no debería ir todo el tiempo así.... Ni la percusión
Scientology
bring back dave!!!!
try to appreciate the solid simplicity of Steve, first.
Craig Purdie I did.... but I miss Dave.... Try to respect my opinion first bro!
I love both steve and dave! My jazz drumming heroes since i was 9! Bot have their own uniqueness in olaying this song
Dave playing on this song is great. Steve recorded the original and this version is fantastic for me; it grooves like a groovy thing from Groovesville
Eh?! Respect or lack of it doesn't come into it. You had an opinion, he disagreed, big deal . It's is the internet man, ain't you used to it by now?
BORING
I - didn’t like the drums. The took away the Latin feel and energy, enthusiasm, and soul from the piece.
