depending on the time period it was common for women to be forced into mental hospitals or given lobotomies for doing literally anything society disapproved of

It's impressive how this analog horror get straight and right in the spect of interaction with the viewer, there's no jumpscares, there's not a single thing to worry the viewer about it's safety, it's just pure horror, the demonstration of a brain condition, the pure terror ruled out by a mind, whereby it's conditions is unknown.

My interpretation:In the beginning she is wearing a mask, the mask being a metaphor for hiding who you truly are to fit in with society's norms. She wears this mask until she she's the rabbit. She takes off the mask and starts becoming more imaginative, a dreamer, some would say. She has ideas and wants to spread it with the world. However, the people find about this I believe in this scene: 2:14 First she's happy and clapping like a child, watching in delight while the statue dances. But eventually she stops clapping due to the statues pause. After this she is brought to be lobmotised. I believe 3:12 represents her imagination starting to become corrupt due to the procedure, tainting it. 3:18 Here she tries her hardest to look back to her wonderland and to ignore the horrors. 3:19 She tries to imagine the Dr playing with her mind as a caterpillar playing with it's hand to make music to ignore the suffering she's going through. 3:28 Here her original identity is now almost completely gone, leaving almost nothing but an empy husk in it's place. 3:48 However, her face comes back and she looks directly at her heart. This could represent that even though her mind is just a memory, her core self can never be removed. That even though they took her imagination, her wonder, they can never truly remove her identity.
Dios AME TANTO.
I was a psychiatric patient as well for a little while,I'm still unwell but the meds help a lot and sometimes I do wish I was normal but even though there's something wrong/different about my brain I wouldn't change it for anything because it's what makes me the person I am,it's difficult to understand that you're not normal but being normal is overrated anyway
This is the kind of scary I wish was more prevalent in media. It seems like a jumpscare is coming, but it never happens. That’s what fear is; uncertainty in whether or not things will go even more wrong than they already have.

A post lobotomy Alice trying to cling to what is left of herself, trying not to become some non verbal autonomous walking hulk of a person. Its a losing battle though whether she likes it or not. It didnt need to rely on jumpscares to be unsettling. The environment and quick edits help, along with the vast symbolization.
