- We tested it on Sepang International Circuit, but perhaps it was too short, and therefore we had to put the All-New 2019 Mazda 3 to the test on the Genting Hillclimb. Is the naturally aspirated 2.0 litre engine powerful enough? Will the suspension falter?

Since you've reviewed and driven most of the 2019 compact/hatchbacks such as the Myvi, Iris, Mini Cooper, Polo, Jazz and Yaris. It will be great to do a side by side review with comparison of the throttle response, handling (stiffness comparison/comfort) and acceleration. With all your driving experience and knowledge that's going to be interesting also :D
Quite hard to get all the cars together, as I work alone. Don't have a big team to put them all together.

Noted - small problem is that it restricts driver view a little.
@@YSKhongDriving yes its literally in your face hehe. is it possible to place that camera to center of the dash ? maybe with the help of those glass sucktion things ? i like it because its like i am driving the car :) its also better because the camera in the interior sometimes shows the outside too shiny too white.

I am in the USA. Sometimes in my city when not on vacation I will rent cars just so I can drive them hard and experience different vehicles. I will create fake local destinations around the city for myself and drive for hours. My personal car is an Infiniti M56x sedan, which is a blast to drive everytime I get in it even though I've owned it for 6 years. Whenever I'm at the pole position at a stoplight and it's red I'm so happy because it's like a Christmas gift because I can accelerate again from 0 when it turns green.
I like how I can hear the engine revving up in your videos and I like your commentary explaining the features of the car and I like how you sometimes have the point of view from the windshield over the hood and it feels like I'm driving the car and it's it's exhilarating.
Uncle please review Mazda CX9 with genting hill climb,I feel the breaking system a bit soft.
But impressive handling for suck a big SUV.

I have a 1994 Mazda 323 Astina. It's been a long time since it's first operation but it still performing great! One thing that I like about the car is it handles the corners very well. I'm sure you knew about the Astina 😀

Dang this Unker is fast, going up genting up to 112 km per hour and doing corner at 80, no wonder overtake everyone like nobody's business
uncle...good info about under steer...some people told us what under steer is...but does not talk about the character of under steer in our common and average driver mind..now we can understand in 'bahasa kampung' how to cure under steer...just lift off minyak....

The TCP is more powerful, while the Mazda 3 has a 6-speed transmission, and is more engaging to drive. Overall, the TCP is probably faster. Both are great cars.

I wish you could describe us what speed you're in with those beautiful curves and straight lines so we can figure out how safe and stable this car to drive in those fast curves. But anyways I always enjoy your proper driving demonstration in every climb you made at Genting Hills.
For obvious reasons we cannot show the speed - too many wet blankets around. You can roughly guess the speed, and I assure you the cams are not sped up. Being a good driver helps.

There are many around. The things to look out for are 1. Is it wide angle enough? 2. Easy to use, 3. Affordable, and 4. can it link front and rear?.
Usually the more well known brands are better, and also must look at portability.
I'm on sleeping mode when this uncle does the driving.

Hi Sir, thanks for this great review. In the manual sport mode, if you do not manually downshift, does the transmission downshift for you and hold the gear for engine braking?
Yes and no - depends on the speed drop, but it is not fast enough, so ie better to shift by yourself.

Just 1 question, How's the handling comparing this Mazda 3 2019 VS The Latest Corolla Altis 2019?
Apparently, the Corolla has improved their chassis handling performance as it's rear suspension is now a double wishbone suspension. Just curious on the difference between this two.

The Mazda 3 and the Corolla are both on a new chassis, and the results are interesting: the Mazda 3 handles very well, in a Sporty kind of way, while the Corolla handles well in a Comfort kind of way. Two similar results but each model has its own path and each model appeals to a different psyche or way of thinking, because of the overall package made up by the suspension, transmission and engine configurations. It is always about the package.
A point to note is that the parameters can change if any one of the three parameters change. For example, a more powerful engine would make a difference to the model's appeal to buyers and totally change the demeanor and outlook.

Remembering that the XV is a SUV, the Mazda will of course handle better and just on power figures is higher in power. The XV will shine if it gets wet and muddy or on dirt roads where high ground clearance is needed. They are very different vehicles built for different purposes

Depends on speed. If too fast, the sagety sydtem does not alliw a forced downshift.

in term of fun ( not perfomance of course ) do u prefer this mazda 3 naturally aspirated or the classe A 250 turbo you tested before ? i think the ratio gearbox is too long too especially the 4/5/6 speed right ?
The A250 costs a lot more than the Mazda 3 here. I rate the Mazda 3 as a better ride.

Lock up clutch in all the gear from 8km/h onwards sounds so wrong... lol... lock up clutch is the clutch that locks up the impeller and turbine of the torque converter 2nd gear onwards. But some better torque converters are able to allow lock up clutch engagement at the end of the first gear speed difference between impeller and turbine 60% to 80% depending on design to exploit efficiency.

It's just as good, but has a bit more power.

The motor of mercedes is better becoz is turbo with 350 nm of torque and 211 HP but it is only characteristics not feeling on board
The Mercedes has more power, so in a straight line it is good. Handles about the same but not as comfortable. Also costs a lot more.

Hello Uncle Khong, another great stuff ! Question, how responsive & fun is it to drive this Mazda3 if to have compared with CX3 ?
Both have the same engine. This one has GVC Plus's, and is lower and lighter, so is more fun.
@@YSKhongDriving i think cx3 is 100 kilo lighter than this mazda 3 and ratio gearbox is more tight in cx3 4.3 , the mazda 3 is 3.85
@@Etonnantnon The CX3 is a higher sided vehicle which crucially makes it slower in corners owing to a higher centre of gravity. Taller vehicles are not as good at higher speed cornering generally speaking. If the Malay CX3 is anything like the Thai spec car, it only has 146ps whereas the M3 has approx 163-165ps so the 100kgs weight benefit would be counteracted by its power deficit. It's shorter wheelbase may help if it has one.

Mr khong, base on your experience, is there any similarities feels between gvc/torque vectoring and rwd ?
Torque vectoring is transfer of for be to the outer wheels to provide more grip. GVC is retardation of torque very slightly, akin to slight throttle lift off to transfer weight to the front and reduce sideways G to make passengers more comfortable. RWD is just RWD. Good driving techniques can make GVC redundant in the same was as a good driver can make ABS redundant or ESC redundant.

Each one has its good points. I like the 6-speed auto in this one, and the turbo in the Civic. I naturally gravitate to the multilink rear suspension of the Civic, but the Mazda 3 handles very well despite the torsion beam, and I like the Mazda's compliant ride.

That's a difficult question. Have not found a best car yet, only cars that are good in some areas.
Compare this with civic 1.5T hatchback 2019. Which one handles better? Which one is more powerful? Civic has more horsepower but skyactive x is has better torque?
The Civic Turbo is more powerful, and is a great car as well. The Mazda is more sedate in power but can be fun to drive too. Each car has its own unique characteristics, so one picks the one most suited to one's needs.
For most people the power difference makes no difference anyway.
