I am a quite enthusiastic Mercedes F1 fan as I skrrrrt paste their HQ on my way to work, gasp, every morning. I think I've ascertained Anthony relationship with. Mercedes F1 by now. Ta!
these systems are so amazing the amount of technology and people that goes into the data collection and the actual sim itself hope you good luck when the season starts👍🤩
00:40 This is the 1st Q3 lap from 2018 TV feed onboard channel. Do you guys use these kind of quali onboards to do any type of analysis? For example, at 01:00, Lewis took the T3 kerbs a little bit less than ideal (maybe braked a bit too late?). He knew it of cause and I'm sure he would try to improve that part in the 2nd lap (taking more kerbs). But are these onboard images useful for you, or the engineers would just use the telemetry to tell the driver where he could improve?
LH and VB are the face of the team and more often than not get all the accolades, but, we forget that so many engineers (tech and non-tech) work pretty much round the year to give the two drivers an absolute beast. As an engineer myself, I understand the value of the backend team, which quite frankly is where the magic happens. More power to you guys 💪🤘🔥
Really cool to see every body doing there part in the build up to a race. Getting every tiny bit from the car to crush the opposition again and again 👍
I went to brackley for a 5 day work experience and I went to the simulator. Stoffel vandoorne was testing in the simulator and Brendon leigh was in the simulator room who I started chatting with. I am so lucky to get that experience and it is amazing to watch these videos and recognise where abouts they are in the whole department.
there is a lot more skill involved in these sports than I initially assumed. I have been simracing casually for a year and I still can't feel setup differences a lot, let alone being able to recall previous setups feeling similar. The differences are very nuanced and small. You also have to consider that the force feedback from sims is nowhere near close to real driving, where you can add a lot of intuition based on how your seat vibrates and really feel the tyres
I love you Mercedes, please continue the good work on F1 in the upcoming years. I know with the crisis you might leave, hopefully not. Because I love you. I know that doesn´t pay bills, but still.
He's really really good. Codemasters really need to step their F1 game because there's no reason why Anthony Davidson finish outside top 10 in any simulator exhibition races!
F1 simulators are based on a variation of Rfactor Engine. F1 simulators are not the best simulators in term of realism & physics. But F1 2019 is a simcade game and i agree with you, this game need to step up.
@@risitoast8616 we'll I heard a team say they use the baseline and graphicals from r factor but the sim has been completely redesigned to specifically match their car. Don't just think it's r factor they use lol

Serious question, but like... what game 'engine' do these simulators use? Is it the same technology of Asseto Corta/Gran Turismo/Codemasters F1 game? Or do they create their own?
What is the sim? rFactor Pro? Though this Monza doesn't look like one in rFactor 2. But niether like Monza in iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and Project CARS 2.
Not a chance, assetto corsa is nowhere near what they will be using in terms of the physics model.. think the closest you would find to this as a consumer would be rf2.. they will most likely be using a custom vehicle model run through something like simulink, will all be coded in house.. lots and lots of look up tables.. graphics wise I doubt that's made in house.
I know you can't reveal too much because... ya know... competition... but what kind of software and hardware is this running on? Is the software mostly in house or built on top of a commercially available simulation engine? I'm sure it's running on a cluster to get the level of simulation detail needed, but how big? Mainly CPU intensive or is it optimized for GPU compute?
@@MercedesAMGF1 he's is a humble guy, hope to see him back someday in F1... We met him in Kortrijk Belgium, he came to see the kids (mine too) racing..
Genuine question: Why the FIA suit and helmet, is it just for the video or always in the sim? I would think that it only makes things harder. (which is good if you want to train the driver but bad if you want to test setups?)
hydrusje Because they want to simulate the scenarios as close as they can. Also, the helmet is required in case of crash during the simulation. The cockpit moves during the simulation to give somewhat of a g-force feel to the test driver. If you notice in the video how he was able to notice the slightest adjustment in downforce from the baseline setup thanks to the motion rig.
Honesty, I think there are more complete sim setups in the simracing community. I don't see the cockpit moving when Anthony takes a corner. That's a feature a lot of homemade rigs have. Or am I missing something? They don't use VR technology neither, that's underwelming.
For the visuals almost sure they use rFpro, then data live I guess is McLaren Atlas as it is the standard F1 ECU, and the vehicle model (the most important factor) it is developed by them probably in Simulink/Matlab, dymola or similar software.. Could be cool if someone from the team could confirm! :)
the faster mercs car gets on the track the more data they put in simulator. simulator gets faster and harder to beat. Mercs manages alot of Data which translate to consistency on the track.
