@@justaguy9681 lulu claims he dosent use the sim as part of his image campaign. But really he will be contractually obligated to drive the simulator.. which meams hes just lying for clout.. again.
You see I could tell just by watching on tv there is a ship tone more mechanical grip and downforce. I hate that the F1 game and other sims don’t fully replicate how much F1 stick to the road when they are at their optimum. They seem to be more slippy in the games or sims we own. I mean this is the real official Mercedes Sim and the car is glued. You can’t tell my that that’s not realistic if the official AMG F1 think that it is.
Wow, and very nice of Mercedes to let you do this! “We are only allowed to film me and the tub”… ( cut to a 3rd camera angle showing the steering wheel ) lol
Really though 4 seconds slower than an F1 driver as a normal person is pretty impressive, granted he didn't have motion on so that could help a little bit
That's why the iracing tkae on an f1 car is the best we've gotten yet in the standard Sim world. In that thing it feels like you have infinite grip and downforce. It feels like it's impossible to spin... Until you spin. Great video too cool.
@@cars_and_coffee_by_bruno because its the closest normal people can get to driving an F1 car let alone the fact that it us the Mercedes W12. Im not sure why they didnt use iRacing instead of codemasters F1, especially since Matt drives on iRacing
The merc in iRacing is criminally underatted. Merc worked with iRacing to develop not just the car, but the tyre model. Merc bascially said "You may have our cars but lets sort your tyre model out first." It is the most realistic car on any consumer sim and feels "just like" the one Matt used. It was Paul diresta (I think) that said it felt the same as the Merc sim.
@@isaacbragg-gardiner2456 I would argue yes, due to the tire model that keeps being improved , and im sure after work with mercedes it will trickle down to all cars. The iRacing team in general is always inproving the game, and actual manufacturers go to them to develop cars for the sim. On top of that all laser scanned tracks, good weather and track evolution and great wheel to wheel racing with the best part being the ranking system. People will argue AC but i think it has different strengths but overall is not as good.
I'm wondering if Bono and the other Mercedes esports guys talked to you about their experience in the simulator. How much are their lap times off vs Mercedes test drivers like Stoffel and Nyck and how do they all compare vs Lewis on the real track?
Matt deserves everything good in life. He is such a positive person and the pure joy he gets for even discussing F1 let alone driving an actual simulator is priceless.
Pretty awesome you can see the tire flex on the wheels. Would kill for a physically accurate F1 sim on PC. iRacing and AC are pretty solid but this must be another level.
iracing and AC both model tires like that. EDIT: apparently AC is still empirical i think. Super impressive model, many people prefer it to iracing. Not sure if they actually render it but they def model it. And iracing and AC are both top tier sims. People don't realize that the flex of the side wall is what pulls your car through turns. Everything your car does is based on the flex of the rubber. 95% of a racing sim is the tire model. even if every other part of the sim is perfect, it's only as good as the tire model because every relevant force on your car goes through the tires at some point. So i'd say if there's one thing Iracing and AC compete against merecedes with, it's probably the tire model. At the end of the day, it's physics, AC and iracing devs are more than capable. Where they can't compete is data. Mercedes has decades of real world data that no one on else has. Every lap driven in the real car is going straight into this sim almost in real time. It's as accurate as it gets.
@@rainyprac Only AC and ACC still use an empirical tyre model (they use calculations not a tyre simulation). Wow. Could you sense where that 3 to 3.5 seconds of lap time could be gained to get a truly, pro level lap? Was that time slower due to a lack of physical feedback from the rig? Not spinning was very impressive and I’m curious how close to normal set up that was? You talked about grip a lot, what was the power delivery like? How careful did you have to be with throttle inputs?
His line was fine but not that precise, which is the main reason that he loses 3.5 seconds. Also need to consider throttle & brake mistakes accumulate the time lost. The sim is actually available on iRacing btw.
My guess is that he had a whack load of fuel and a race setup. Matt is a pretty fast driver in iracing. I would be shocked if he couldn't get within a second. Although maybe his weed normal guy legs couldn't push the brake hard enough.
@@vitruviuszhang He was also early on the brakes and didn`t trust the grip levels as he didn`t throw the car into the corner allowing the tires and grip levels work at their optimal levels.
