When I see people online say how Red Bulls 2023 year was way more dominant than that of Mercedes,I could never put my finger on why it felt like the Merc was somehow more dominant. But that first part about the Mercedes lapping everyone up until places as high as 3rd made it make sense. That car was on a different planet at the majority of tracks.
U said it right. To add to this last year we had 6 more races than in 2020.

I mean it is. Don’t get me wrong 2020 possibly would I have been more dominant if that season had more races but redbull won 22 out of 23 races last season. You can’t ignore that.
@@SwaggySimon20 Of course I think red-bull hit the ground running with their concept and as a team nailed their strategies struck a good balance between quali and race setups and didn’t make many mistakes but the field and racing was a lot closer due to latest regs, and Mercedes around 2020 time was all of what I just said plus an absolute alien of a car, apart from a few team mistakes that potentially cost the team of a 100% win rate

That combination between W11 and Lewis is simple unstoppable. Legend stuff.
I'm a Red Bull guy myself, but to me you're right: the W11 was an amazing car and the most dominant car in F1 history. Everyone wants to talk about the RB19 but I'm more of the belief that the W11 (looking at the data) was even better. Lewis Hamilton is an all-time great and the W11 was his best car by far. Great video!

yeah but it wasn't as reliable as the rb19 but without some of its issues and Hamilton getting covid, Hamilton could have won about 15 of the 17 races.
max kept Hamilton from breaking Vettel's nine in a row which says if max was in the W11 my guy now that sounds scary
It's interesting how Michael and Lewis carrers specially late are so similar, both had the best car ever basically in their 7th and final title, and later they fought for their 8th in a evolution of that car but both lost to a young phenom. Michael in 2006 with Alonso with the evo of the 2004 car and Lewsis to Max in 2021 with evo of the 2020 car.
I'm pretty sure the change in regs slowed the Mercedes car down (and those who had low rake cars e.g. Force India), high rake cars like Red Bull had a positive gain in performance to Mercedes for 2021, which in turn gave us a hell of a season. I think the change impacted rear downforce?
@@vHiddenAce Yes indeed, those regs were delivered invented to end the dominance of Mercedes, Same as with the 2005 regs to mess up Ferrari and Brigedstone

James Allison cooked with W11 then boom FIA changed some rules for next year and cars got slower. Imagine if they kept the same rules how fast this car could have been? I guess we'll never know.😢

There's only so much you can get out of the car and mercedes were almost on the limit of the regulations. Just like now, redbull can only make small progress now and more teams will eventually catch up later this season, if not next

I mean, it was kinda necessary, since Pirelli tyres couldn't take the immense aerodynamic loads these cars produced.

You also forgot to mention the fact that Max Verstappen had a brand new engine during the 2020 Abu Dhabi Race and that Red Bull cranked it to the max.

What a Machine for such a Phenomenal driver. It was a match made in heaven.
You didn't mention that at the 2nd round at Silverstone pirelli changed tyre allocation to a softer one to prevent 1 stop strategy attempts and the Merc, as Toto Wolff said, put to much energy in those softer tyres in the high speed corners making the car a tyre destroyer, they had blistering after 2 laps. So they lost cause the car was too good ( too much downforce to handle for the tyres).

I saw on track his successor W12 and was a best of his kind, sadly due to pandemics, w11 didn't race at Interlagos.
James Alison also built this car to compete with the evolution of the 2019 monster ferrari ( during season they thought it would get faster next year) but fia clarifications put an end to that so it was built for a non existent competitor. 👌

people often point to the F2004 and say, had it had slicks, it would have been faster than the W11. First of all, No. Second of all, the Mercedes needs to carry 100kg of fuel to finish a race without refueling. The F2004 would need to carry about 190kg of fuel to finish the race at full speed, which the car is too small to carry. Lastly, the Mercedes is only using HALF as much fuel as the F2004. If we allow both to use slicks, and the same amount of fuel, the Mercedes would pump out 1600+hp.

It would’ve sucked up the tarmac and the Pirelli tyres would’ve exploded because of how much downforce it would’ve produced.

I find the W11 much more dominant and fascinating but the RB19... has been the same kind of beast... the main difference is that the W11 was INSANE because of all the downforce and all the regulations that let constructors make their cars real DOWNFORCE beasts while the 2023 regulations (or more the 2022) are more on ground-effect and much more restrictive... but nonetheless those 2 cars are the beasts of each regulation era.

The W11 was the legend with the worst story yet is talked about with positivity. The W11 rose in the wrong time because of the COVID pandemic yet it's talked with respect. Literally when I see this car I get goosebumps.

Abu Dhabi 2020 the W11 had parts that were going to be on the way slower car (2+ seconds slower) of 2021. They already had everything in the bag and decided to experiment with those parts on the W11. If the W11 were to be kept untouched, it would've dominated again. Abu Dhabi offers nothing that most other tracks don't already, so the massive change in pace was obviously down to the car being nerfed. Very few people for whatever reason know of this...
You're right they did experiment on W11 in AD20. But the real reason Merc didn't have fastest car in 2021 was because F1's new floor rules. They banned DAS, floor edges were cut, break oil temp... etc
(Literally they did everything to slow down Merc's innovations)
Exactly, which was why in AD20 the W11 lost to the RB16. Because without those parts, and leaving the car as is, it would've once again dominate.
I saw a video of Ralf Schumacher driving his Williams 2003 F1 car using slicks from the 2023 cars and his car was FASTER than any hybrid F1 car and only half a second slower than the 2023 cars. And Ralf hasn't raced in 14 years. Granted, the rules were different in the early 2000's.
I don't care what anyone says, the early 2000's was literally the best years of F1.

the merc power unit was a big part of it, aero was avg. even the crappy williams merc was winning some races.
I'm convinced the F2004 on the same tires would be quicker. F1 cars can go 4/5 seconds quicker on slicks.
