Hi! Here's an exhaustive list of the sauces you can spread on your fries in Belgium. The most part of them are only available here, and it's hardl to be able to find such products in other neighbouring countries like France, Netherlands, Luxemburg and Germany, where you have usually only 3 options: ketchup, mayo and mustard, and alternatively the creepy peanut sauce they serve in our northern neighbours which does not look very engaging, without going into dtails... So here we go: Mayonnaise (the belgian is one of the best ever), ketchup, curry-ketchup, moutarde,, pickels, pili-pili, samouraï, mammouth, andalouse, américaine, riche,, cocktail,, tartare, béarnaise, provençale, carbonnade, aïoli, curry, brasil, banzaï, dallas, pitta, miel-moutarde, barbecue, bicky, blanche, algérienne, harissa, hawaï, hannibal, au poivre, toscane, and probably a couple more I forgot to mention. That's more than thirty different choices and you can find only this in Belgium, amongst the many other amazing and unique things that this piece of land has to offer! By the way, one of the best brand you can find on the market is "La William", a famlily business who made high-quality sauces since the early 60's, and just for the story, they are the ones who created the popular andalouse and some other. @Davidsbeenhere: if one day you decide to come back to belgium, I suggest you to try also some typical belgian fried finger-snacks, as fricandelle (or fricadelle), burger, boulette, viandelle, belcanto, mexicano, poulycroc, cervelas (raw or stewed),, brochette de viande/dinde/poisson, croquette de crevettes/fromage, and especially the so-called "mitraillette" (literally meaning machine gun), an huge hot sandwich made up of bread (french baguette), finger snacks (at the discretion), fries, sauce and raw vegetables. Believe me, after swallowing a big guy like this, your hunger will be dead for a whole day (hence the name)!.😁 Otherwise, other than snacks and mussels, we have another speciality that fits also well with fries you have to experience, l'améicain préparé, a raw steak of ground beef meat complemented with mayo, mustard, egg yolks, shalotts, capers, parsley, worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. In my opinion, I find it more tasty and appetizing in comparison with the french steak tartare. Cheers and big up from Bxl!

Well actually, fires were invented by frenches in the first half of the 19th century. Donut sellers started to deep Popatoes in oil. they were called "Pomme du Pont Neuf". It was thin potatoe slices cooked in "Saindou". Sold in front of theaters in paris, they became famous in the 1820s-30s. but potato slices weren't very efficient. While cooking, potato slices as a tendency to stick to each other so the Pomme du Pont neuf started to get cut un shape we know them today, in 1cm wide sticks. Less sticky and easier to eat. In 1844, A German called Jean-Frédéric Kreiger discoverd this Pomme du Pont Neuf and popularized them with the opening the first fries shop in Brussels called "Fritz".
The Americans during the war learned about fries when they were in the French speaking part of Belgium. They didn't know they were in Belgium so they assumed they were in France hence French fries. Now there are a lot of varieties between French, Belgian and Dutch fries so each is unique but they shouldn't be called French fries at all. It's Belgian.
I guess you are French? They didnt invent Belgian fries, they invented Pommes pont-neuf. It inspired us to make the fries everyone across the world eats now, those are quite different from those Parisian bricks though :p and of course we added double frying , in correct oil and correct temps. But nice you read the BBC article.
Haha you are correct bro, sorry was way too drunk 🤣I was afraid I did sth like this when i opened my UA-cam today. Apologies, it wasnt me, it was that drunk me haha@@ReaZRapTor
Fritland has good original fries. For the rest, these are fries shops that give a (too) modern twist to it and they are over any normal fries size (too thick). Normally the fried potato should taste so good that you do not need any sauce with it. The best french fries in Brussels you will eat at Place Helmet (the man with the cart) at Place Dumont ( the kiosk near the building of the European community). There are very good fries to be found in many small local towns. For example at Gégés near the church in 1210 Neder-over-Heembeek, den Trul in 3070 Bertem. All original fries. If you want, the Hamburger chains like Quick and McDonalds always have good fries and constant quality but these are the finest size. Some customers don't like that. Do you know what pommes allumettes are? In more expensive restaurants they serve very very fine fries...pommes allumettes like matches. Try also the sauces from Bosteels. Normally a good original Fries vendor sits in a half greacy baraque. The taste will make all good. Bon appetit !
My fav is home made. Wilja potatoes not too thickly cut. Fried in fresh corn oil till brown on the edges. Then served with cracked sea salt and cider vinegar. If you want to go the extra mile - cut chips (fries) then pat dry. Put them in bowl or colander and shake with a clove of mashed garlic. Then fry.
Morning David. Your brain must be fried on all those fries 😋😂🍟. I can't believe the amount of sauces they have; maybe they should combine all the sauces in one and call it 'The Works'. Bet you can't eat just one (fry). Glad to see everyone speaking English. Take care and waiting to see the next episodes.🙏🏼❤️🇨🇦🇹🇹

I think, you enjoyed your trip in my tiny country 😂😂I loved it 👌👍 greetings from Belgium 😉🇧🇪
I did! And moreeeee to come!
@@Davidsbeenhere That sounds fun 🙌 I can't wait 😉👍
Thank you.
Then fry.
Well David, you are all over. Thanks for sharing. Be careful with eating too many fried foods. Lol.😊
Sweet 🤗😇
Please visit Leuven (Louvain) on your next trip. The best city in the Benelux!
So good ❤❤❤❤
Good morning Judy. I feel like I did not see you in a long time. Or maybe it's me? Hope all is well with you? Summer is going soon. The Ex is starting, your area will be busy. Have a wonderful day . Heading out to wk.🙏❤
@@ingridbee9192 morning Ingrid. I was busy and I told David in the newsletter that I was forgoing watching the documentaries and was waiting for the new series. I am still here, Everything is ok. It's going to be a real mess here with traffic being re-routed to King and Queen Streets because they closed the Dufferin bridge for repairs. Pedestrians only. It's about a five minute walk from where I live near Springhurst.
Anyway, you will see me more often in the comments now. Have a great day.🙏🏼❤️
Hi Judy...not much rain today ...nice seeing you andthe Amszon videos were awesome!!!...Anyway have a blessed safe day.❤❤❤
The sauces aren't combined but it's not unusual to see people eating a variety of sauces with their fries.
Davidsbeenhere Fritland is only for tourist ;) and i'm from Brussels ;)
Those fries with that stew gravy on top and the beer I want for my last meal 😂 that looks so good and tasty
Belgian cuisine it was incredible when you dine in or take away at fritland restaurant you can see much more french fries🍟with large package using andalouse and samourai sauces when you flight✈️ to brussels🇧🇪 and you can visit fritland restaurant on the edge of belgian street🛣 you can eat french fries with large package like that seems like david eat that, but I just love french fries🍟 when I dinner in franchise american restaurant seems like mcdonalds, kentucky fried chicken, burger king and etc but french fries🍟 in american restaurant doesn't large like fritland but belgian it was incredible with much more french fries like that, I'm so surprising when I saw david gets tour to many countries to taste a culinary with delicious cuisine until he making a film video clip📹 but in this belgian🇧🇪 I just like the chocolate🍫 beacuse belgian chocolate its very delicious meal and popular in the world

Floris one of the good - best Cocolade Beer!
Bruxelles ma belle, my sweet hometown.
You went to the most tourist friendly shops. You should go to a real “frituur”. Patatoes that arent even peeled are a no go in the traditional frituur
Finally new video.
the last 3 videos including my Amazon Rainforest series have been new videos...
Oh man, if I knew you were here I would have showed you around some.
the 3rd chip shop u went in is the same i went in when i went lol
Frying in beef fat is way less unhealthy than vegetables oils. Please stay away from heated vegetables oils because they oxidize.
Ps: they say vegetable oil but really mean seed oil.
Sorry, beef fat is the traditional fat to make fries in Belgium ! There are sunflower oil mixtures that are lighter but nothing like the smell of the beef fat to feel at home.
You gotta go mayo cocktail sauce and samurai
👳HEY DAVID! I HEARD THEY MAKE ICE CREAM AND CHEESES FROM HUMAN BREAST MILK IN BELGIUM! 🧀🍧AND I'M WONDERING, IS THAT TRUE?? THOSE FRENCH FRIES LOOKS DELICIOUS, DAVID!!! BEER AND GORMET FRIES WITH TOPPINGS AND SAUCES!!! MY KINDA EATIN!!!🍟🍅🌶🧀
This reminds me venezuela 🇻🇪 Colombia Peru like stew sauce with fries 🍟👌 or tons of mayo ketchup with fries 😅like 🇻🇪 lol the pineapple sauce like the one that 🇨🇴 Colombia
I am Belgian, from Brussels.
If I can give a little advice; avoid tourist areas if you want to taste “real” fries, waffles and other local specialties. ;)
The signs we see in this video are tourist traps.
Im watching this cuz tommorow morning ill go to Brussels jaaa
Great for soaking up all that belgian beer.(frites)
As someone who is half Belgian thank you for showing the underwhelming reaction when you order something spicy in Belgium.
Wonderfull
I live in Brussels, and I have to say you chose your friteries well! Fritland's fries are awesome, La Friterie is a little too fancy for me, and l'Atelier is a discovery for me, can't wait to try it!
Next time, try a nice Viandelle with some sauce Dallas, that's a winner!
I have been to all of the French fries
We have over 250 different kinds of beer in Belgium.
1200
Belgium are the best in fries
found it funny "can eat vegan here" followed by a shot of beef stew on top of the fries
Too bad you only went to the most touristic places. People in Brussels don't go there to eat fries but more like Flagey, La Barrière, Tabora etc
finally someone who corrected french fries and saidd belgium fries instead
David girls love him who has no hair
For me loading so much sauces on the fries a is Nono you might as eat sauces without fries.
Finally a decent video after dozens of useless and boring "long documentaries". I just put a like too!
The last 3-4 videos have not been docs, I released several videos from the Amazon jungle not sure if you had a chance to see it. That said thank you for the support I really appreciate it.
Everyone loves andalouse :)
Next time try Chouke
Stella is so much better in Belgium than it is in the UK too totally different
