There is another thing you should try in Belgium that goes very well with fries. Its called "Vol Au Vent". its some kind of chicken stew. Must try!

An all fries tour!? It's my lucky day!!! So into the sauce bar to customize your experience. And that town square was super quaint and picturesque! The cut on the fry seems similar across the eateries but is super unique to Belgium. LOVED the video 💛

Fries are always my go to snack...my fav vege...potatoes ...lots of wholesome good nutrition...seems the people there eat fries almost daily and with all those sauces...just delicious!!!...The square is awesome...esp the building with the flags...so colorful...nice.,..As always Thanks David and be safe...Peace.

2 Tourist traps and 1 awfull Frites restaurant. I'm a belgian from Antwerp and I can tell you, there are places in Antwerp that are 10 times better then these tourist trap fries.

@@Luke-pm1rbi feel you'll find better fries in the small towns next to Antwerp. Big cities are often very touristy hence every 'frituur' is also very touristy. If you plan on to visit Belgium and try the fries, just go next to Antwerp. Merksem, Ekeren, Kapellen, Schoten, etc... have nice "frituurtjes" (fry places) :)
yes as a belgian im verry proud of our fries and also beers BUT david you HAVE to try our "broodjes" especially "broodje martino" you will love it. its like a baguette with different spreads, and also a uniquqe belgium thing and yes we are also the best at those not the french ;)

One of my best frites experience was in Belgium - a frites truck in a square in Maastricht and a cone of frites with mayo. I’ve yet to find any to beat them!! ❤

This sausage is generally known as a "frikandel". There is a version with a crusty batter (which I like better) called "Viandel".

If you go to the french speaking part in Walloon you have less Flemish beef stew but rather Liege meatballs with sauce. Highly recommend that too.
Actually you'll find 2 kinds of meatball dishes :
Balletjes met tomatensaus / boulettes à la sauce tomate = meatballs in tomato sauce.
Luikse Balletjes / Boulettes Liègoises = meatballs in brown sauce (with apple/pear syrup, a speciality of the Liège province).
The meatballs are usually small sized but large meatballs without sauce are also widely available.

I have never seen this "mess" in a Belgian frituur, they must serve it at that place only. Belgian frituren do serve something called a "trog" (pigsty) or similar but the ingredients (fries, meat snacks, sauces) are never mixed up that much.
The "mitraillette" (machine gun) is another "made-for-pigs" meal : a loaf of bread filled with fries, meat snacks and sauces.

My experience with Frietkot Max wasn't that pleasant back in 2014. The staff was rude and unfriendly. It took away my appetite that day. A tourist from Suriname.
That's 10 years ago. Much can change in that time. Though I have noticed the reviews for many places became worse after Covid.
This is the best frituur in Belgium. And it's very very good!
These are all on touristic locations. The best frituur is Chips in the St. Antoniusstraat. No discussion.

Hey David, did someone already explained why the whole world says French fries and not Belgian Fries?
I love the joy you share as you make these videos and I don't wanna be a party pooper but as a Belgian I wanted to mention that fries in cities (I've been to 2 of the places you showed) are often low in quality compared to what you would get outside city centers and in the countryside (not to mention the price). The only advantage is indeed that you can easily try the sauces. I'd recommend andalouse sauce from the brand "la william".

Man I love small European fast food ish restraunts.. reminds me of chick fil an employees . Normal always positive , happy to take ur order.

Frites Atelier is by a Dutch chef who thought he could teach the Belgians how to do fries from a fries shop. Major tourist trap and an insult to Belgian fries culture. Overprized and different just for the sake of it. Horrible take. The other two are ok. 🙂
