thanks to the both of these guys for helping get me thru an otherwise bad childhood at times.lived for saturday evening and NWA wrestling...Gordon Solie, absolute best ever.Ric Flair, one word sums it up WOOOOOO
Serious, long-time fans of pro wrestling understand the unparalleled greatness that is Gordon Solie. Sure Jim Ross is talented, but he's simply not in the same league.
My comment comes 7 years after yours but the truth is truth today, yesterday and for all time. Gordon Solie was literally in a class all by himself. It's sad to think people out west probably never had the opportunity to experience that he brought to the table. His style legitimized wrestling. He had the proper names for the moves, had an excellent vocabulary, showed APPROPRIATE levels of emotion for the action going on around him. I've heard it said many times that Gordon Solie was the Howard Cosell if wrestling BUT I think it might be more accurate to say that Howard Cosell was the Gordon Solie of football. Listening to him call matches and interview wrestlers takes me back 45 years, to my childhood growing up in Georgia watching wrestling with my Dad. I would fight anyone that said wrestling was fake (put them in a sleeper hold or figure-four leg lock!!) largely in part because Gordon had me convinced it was real! He was legitimate so the wrestling had to be as well!!
Make no mistake. Despite all the "fluff" in between, Flair did exactly what he was supposed to do. Sell himself as world champion, sell the up comming towns JCP was going to tour thru, and sell the top wrestlers of the time that he was going to face in those cities. All the while keeping the fans entertained. That's why he was on top so long. Flair put butts in seats. Abosolute genius.
The Greatest Wrestling Announcer in The History of Pro Wrestling along with The Greatest Wrestler in The History of Professional Wrestling. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!!!!!
Gordon was certainly the best ... and what a terrific interview with the unbelieveable Ric Flair is this ... from the west coast of Florida to all the way up the east coast !
Grew up watching Gordon Solie on "World Championship Wrestling From Florida". Eddie Graham, Dory Funk Jr., The Great Malenko and JC Dykes and the Infernos. Good times.
Ole Slick Ric gettin' his groove on....and sharin' the wealth too with the one and only Dean of Rasslin' Announcers (RIP.) Remember kids, you can't be Ric Flair overnight....well....you simply can't be Ric Flair period lol. Bread, Peanut Butter and Jelly. Saturday, Ric and Gordon.

In addition to his numerous wrestling titles, you can be sure Flair and the Horsemen racked up a huge number of personal "victories" across the U.S. and the world as well!
