So what is the answer? More lives lost, more limbs gone, more shattered bodies for another 20, 30 or 40 years? There is only so much blame to be placed on the politicians here. The militaries involved lost so much institutional knowledge and fumbled operations over and over again. The troops were not invested in the mission or the welfare of Afghans (after all, some of them were literal toddlers when 9/11 happened), they distrusted the local populace and spent most of their time in the wire counting down the days till their tour was over. It may be that they were killed almost immediately, or that the Taliban, viewing them as traitors, refused to negotiate for them. The Afghan government may well have been at fault but I don't know enough to say that they could have done more than they did.
The West was always going to pull out of Afghanistan at some stage so blaming anybody is pointless. No one can control Afghanistan and no one ever has. The Russians pulled out and so did the British Empire way back when. That said going into Afghanistan started as a worthy effort to rid the world of some very nasty people. All this makes me wonder if perhaps the West should develop new tactics. Do the bit that they are good at and go in and wipe out the bad guys. But then simply pull out and leave the country in a mess. Let the locals sort themselves out and if you don't like the result go in and do it again. I originally had this idea when they invaded Iraq. Very few western soldiers were killed in the invasion. The nasty bit happened afterwards when they tried to hold the country.

I'm also not going to apportion blame over the two Afghans without knowing the facts. It may be that they were killed almost immediately, or that the Taliban, viewing them as traitors, refused to negotiate for them. The Afghan government may well have been at fault but I don't know enough to say that they could have done more than they did.
Simple, you murder one we kill one.
This has not gone through time very well, since Taliban kick the US & NATO out of Afghanistan 😂
Didn't kick then out though did they? America realised that the country is a waste of land and pointless trying to change it
@@nopenope9023 April 21, US agree with Taliban to be out of country before end of August, then biden says he extends to September, Taliban make large attacks, US then make new deal to be out of Afghanistan by August end, Taliban agree no attacks on NATO forces if all gone by that date, any after that date would be attacked, that is why chaos at airport....was like seeing repeat of USs retreat from Saigon in 75, so yes they did get kicked out !
Well that turned out to be a waste of time, didn't it.
Next time you are invited to a war, decline politely.
