It is crazy that the Afghan commandos had to tag along on so many missions. Their discipline is/was shocking and they killed/injured so many professional allied soldiers who were there trying to help Afghanistan get rid of the Taliban.
I have 2 friends that served in Afghanistan. Both Army, and both had the misfortune of having to take ANA personnel along on ops. They BOTH said these morons were liabilities and they were constantly babysitting them. Both said they had no desire to fight, no trigger or muzzle discipline, and were high most of the time. No wonder the country fell like a house of cards to the Taliban after we left.
@Mikey Mouse...stupidity in hindsight. But damn! We wanted them to step up and take charge of their country for fucks sake! Ah!...after Bin Laden was killed...we should have pulled 90% of our operations out anyways. Just left a small Intel battalion.
Omg. I just realized who I was hanging out with. I won't say his name, but he came into my restaurant and ordered some cheesecake and a beer. He was such a sweet man. We hung out outside of work. He took me to see the planes. I never realized he was such a bad ass. I should message him and tell him. I have so much respect for everyone who serves. Thank you for all you do.
Friendly fire is a more common cause for American casualties than we tend to believe. While I was on Operation Just Cause, we lost several members of our company to friendly fire. The enemy we engaged were wearing the same woodland BDUs as we were, making it difficult and confusing to determine friend from foe... especially during a heated firefight. Sgt. Jasso death could have been avoided had the Afghan forces been better trained. But knowing command, they were under pressure to involve them before they were 100%. The pressure probably originated from some overzealous congressmen who was up for reelection, creating a facade they were doing their job. It's very unfortunate and sad what happened to Sgt. Jasso. My condolences goes out to his family. I also feel terrible for the heroic dog Maiko. I bet he was an awesome K9 scout. I salute both for their service and sacrifice!
