Delta Force was founded by Rangers, and that's part of the reason Delta look to Rangers first for selection.

Delta Force and Rangers conduct Direct Action missions or DA for the Army. The Ranger Regiment is a pipeline for Delta Force, as many of them are selected from the 75th. Delta Force's model is based on the British Special Air Service on how they are organized and conduct operations.

Metallisika yes this is true. However it is interesting to note that about 70% of Delta is made up of former Rangers, and only 30% Green Berets

Would really love to see a video on the 2015 DELTA raid in Iraq that freed 70 ISIS hostages. It received a lot of coverage at the time because it resulted in the death of Master Sgt. Joshua Wheeler. It was also one of the rare instances of an actual hostage rescue being captured on video, which was later released to the media by participating Kurdish forces.

I was in Afghanistan the same time this operation took place. I was in Bagram AFB and I was out later in the evening when I heard an unusual jet engine roaring up on the airstrip. It wasn't taking off, but just a sustained increase in thrust on the ground from what I could hear. I'm fairly certain it was a stealth bomber. I never thought too much of it, but this happened in the summer of 2014, so it's possible that this was the undisclosed jet that was used on this operation. It was the one and only time I heard that specific jet engine during my 9 month tour.

The stealth bomber is too valuable and secretive to have been there. For bombing runs it takes off from its home base flies for hours and refuels in air then returns to its home base, in the states.

Another good one might be the 2017 Tongo Tongo ambush of a USSF team in Niger...although tragic, the heroics displayed on Sgt. Johnson's helmet cam was nothing short of inspiring.
4 USSF soldiers lost their lives. However when the recovery team went in the next day to retrieve the fallen, they found 21 enemy dead on the battlefield...for them to leave 21 of their dead on the field means they most likely suffered many more KIA.
Very hard to watch that video, but you cant help but to feel pride in our guys...not a single man threw up his hands in surrender even when they knew the cause was hopeless.

@Proud Indian Daesh is the arabic of ISIS. If you've ever been deployed to the region, they (locals, Partner Units, Coalition forces) won't call it IS or ISIS, it's Daesh or Da'wulah (State/Sovereign state).

@Proud Indian eg, in Christianity we are told to "Thou shalt not kill"
it's wrong. it was misinterpreted. Because Jesus spoke in Aramaic and Hebrew. The correct translation would be "thou shalt not murder", because the words were missing in translation from Hebrew to Greek and Latin before went to English.
This is not including nuance and difference on policy at the time

I know our respective people (in the US and UK) will always say their sf are the best, however why not, we are all patriots. US people say their sf are the best in the world, and we in the UK say our sf are the best. Lets cut to the chase, we are all proud of our men and women of our forces, however one thing is for certain, you mix US and UK sf and you have to feel sorry for the baddies lol - I hear a lot of both US and UK sf who say they have worked with either, and have the highest respect for them. We can all sleep nicely at night, knowing we have these warriors, watching our backs. Respect and a big thank you, to our US friends, and our UK servicemen and women.

The special operations team was unable to locate and rescue any hostages. The special operations team conducted house-to-house searches in Uqayrishah. At this time, IS forces from Raqqa began to arrive and a three-hour firefight ensued.[1] During the fighting, militants also directed RPG fire at a U.S. aircraft; a bullet grazed the leg of the pilot.[19]
Later, it was reported the hostages had been relocated 24 hours before the attempted rescue.[1] It remained unclear whether the operation failed due to incorrect intelligence or if IS forces had been alerted in advance of the mission.[20]

The raid would likely have been successful had it been conducted prior to the French and Spaniards buying their hostages back. The bigger the group, the harder it is to isolate and secure them. We'll never know for sure.

    • @r.c.1881
      @r.c.1881 4 роки тому +3

I would actually argue for the contrary. A big group can be split and locked in multiple sites, hard to spot and storm at the same time. Also, it gives a vast array of credible threats(eg. if you do get to find and save one, we'll execute the others, therby sapping the will to partecipate from those parties who do not have too much confidence in the actionable intelligence). A single hostage, or multiple hostages located closely instead provide for a very tempting target. They are there, packed, once taken back no more credible threats on other hostages... Had they been indeed held together, then the intelligence provided by the bought back hostages might have been invaluable.

There are lots of ignorant people on this comment section. The 75th Ranger Regiment is a special operations unit that specializes in direct action. They aren’t “special forces support”, “spec ops capable”, or “just elite infantry”. They are special operators with a full spectrum of special operations capabilities. They are equal to their sister units in SOCOM. They have captured and killed more high value targets than any other SOF or conventional units. They are not “back up or perimeter security” for other SOF units. You will not see Rangers pulling security for SF, regular SEAL Teams, or MARSOC on a raid. If anything it would be the other way around. On rare occasions they will pull security for the tier 1 elements when it comes to sensitive hostage rescue missions, but this is the exception not the rule. The vast majority of times they are clearing rooms alongside the tier 1 SMUs. They work with tier 1 units but most of their operations on their own. Most Delta Force operators come directly from Regiment.

Come on , you have to take into account their point of view : even if it's their jobs , we don't need to risk recklessly the lives of our soldiers.
I'm French , and I recall very well the events of another video , where 2 of our brave soldiers for died to save 2 of our citizens. And to be honest , it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth , that these two soldiers had to give their lives. If more time had been taking , we could have lost their track , but we might have gone in more prepared and these two soldiers might have survived ...
