- Sony ZV1 ZV-1 4K Cinematic
I’m always a big fan of small compact camera with spectacular video features. I own the RX100 M3, RX100 M4, RX100 M6 in the past. And they were great. But since the version 6, Sony have decided to use a new 24-200mm lens. I mean it’s great to have a longer zoom. And if you saw my old videos I love shooting tele. But personally, I don’t use tele as much for compact cameras. I would rather have much wider aperture for a 1” sensor.
There is one thing I realize one the ZV1. The lens was actually tighter than the RX series at the wide end. As we know, The RX series and ZV series. They all using 1” sensors, that means the crop factor is 2.7x. But each gen, Sony uses a different lens. The RX100VA was 8.8mm x2.7X = 23.76mm, RX100M7 9mm x2.7x = 24.3mm, and the ZV-1 lens is 9.4mm x 2.7x = 25.38mm. So after having the active steadyshot turned on. The lens will become 30mm. Which makes the blogging a lot harder.
I have also found when you use the product showcase mode. The IS will be disabled. As I do a lot of travel videos myself. Walking around and put down the camera and show the food in front of the camera. I always have to go into the menu and turn on the product showcase mode. That’s a bit annoying. But I know this is a compact camera, shouldn’t expect too much. I mean it is a great little camera.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Red little record light is handy
Awesome f/1.8-2.8 lens
Much more affordable comparing with RX series
3 Stops ND filter
Got all the picture Profiles
Hotshoe is back (Comparing with RX series)
Cons
Sensor was tighter than RX100 series, and after switching on the Active steadyshot. Works out like 30mm
Still remains 4K 30p upto 100mbps
No focus ring anymore unlike the RX Series
Mic Jack is on the side makes it hard to hold the camera
Product showcase doesn’t work together with Active IS.
Wish it was wider lens like 18-50mm would be awesome
No more pop up flash

I can't get over how professional this footage looks.
This is the best ZV1 footage I’ve seen so far.👏👏👏
yes because everybody cares about the camera few cares about the post production values
I agree!
No question this is the best demonstration of this little camera's capabilities. You have shown that the super-polished look of big-budget productions is now within reach of the regular consumer - all you need is the KNOWLEDGE of how to use this superb tool. And that knowledge is on ample display in this footage. All the detail in different parts of the frame is MIND BOGGLING! It's like watching an epic feature film! And all from such a tiny camera! What a time we live in! Thanks for creating and posting!
finally good cinematic oriented shots from ZV1
I’m sold on this camera now. Thank you. I was hesitant because other reviews were all shooting not as well but you really did an excellent job. The 4k looks amazing and showed the potential this camera really has. Thank you!
What a beautiful footage! I'm in love with this video I can watch it 10 more times! the piano sound in the background sounds so premium too. Thank you for this awesome work.
This is awesome. Best footage I've seen so far. The XT-4 video is my favorite
Another amazing video as always. Kudos mate!
This guy can make any camera looks awesome in post
I live in Perth, and I've never seen it look so chilled...
Amazing as always!
It's a very beautiful video!
Many people in Tokyo are also making various challenges on the ZV-1.
It was helpful for my production.Thank you.
I almost forgot that this was filmed with a point & shoot camera. You don't need much to make amazing videos these days. Great work & soundtrack always on point!
Thank you very much, really appreciate it ☺️
Perth WA. i was checking this video and I felt like I recognize everything! definitely a beautiful city. you did a great job showing this camera footage and capturing the city
Your videos on this camera was what sealed the deal for me and i bought it lol
Like Gerald said, this is the best ZV-1 footage I've seen so far. I like how you didn't fall back on using Auto ISO. So many UA-camrs were suggesting to just leave the ZV-1 in Auto ISO. I also liked how you used the built in ND filter creatively. Seeing your footage makes me feel even better about getting the ZV-1. Mine should be arriving next week. Thanks for this.
Thank you so much for your kind words, really appreciated. You gonna love the camera ☺️
I'm always amazed by how you color grade your videos. Beautifully done!
Thank you very much, really appreciated ☺️☺️
When it's in good hands it's look amazing
This is what i wanted to from with this camera.
Beautiful! It's what i'm looking for. I'm sold. Thank you
Absolutely beautiful shoots🙂
I love this video. I just got ZV-1 and I am new to videography. A lot for me to learn but your video really inspired me.
Thank you very much ☺️☺️
oh miss Perth so much and this Sony camera is so damn good
nice video!
I've been on the fence for MONTHS between the zv1 or the rx100 va and this video convinced me that the zv1 is the right move for me. amazing shots!
Hey, I just ordered the ZV1, How is your experience so far?
It is not always about the hardware as people may think. This video just proves it.
this is an amazing camera
Perth! My hometown! Awesome video. I'm thinking of getting a ZV-1 for cinematic vlogs :)
Fantastic results. I find it astonishing how you color match all the different cameras; heck you make even the GoPro look cinematic.
Thank you very much, Yea some cameras take me quite a bit of time to make the color look right. Especially when those ones that don’t have log profile and high bitrate 😉☺️
DSI Pictures just watched recently your Osmo Action video to see what’s possible. I guess the retailers needed to clear stock and since I didn’t have an action cam decided to get it, it was half price.
very Clean thanks for sharing
Keep up the great work
Ok I’m sold. Also the color grading on this one is immaculate. I’ve been hesitant on buying the ZV1 but with this video, I’m now certain that it is definitely the camera for me. 💕
I was pretty much hesitant on buying one too. But this video and one other on UA-cam sold me.
I vlog on the ZV1 and this footage motivates me to push that creativity level too. How did you get on?
Wow. Marvelous
You have some awesome videos
Thanks for sharing
Beautiful movie🙏✨
Clicked so fast! Yay! 👏🏼💕
Wow Love it using the ND filter really helped the video not to be overexposed.
you do a fantastic job using sliders? for smooth movement. Colour science or colorist spot on
I still say you are the Master of Video maker.
you have given the most honest opinion about all different product.
Thank you very much for watching all my videos. Really appreciate it. Yea the Build in ND is so nice. Unlike the other brand build in ND only available in stills mode 😉
Fantastic!
Did you use a gimbal for this video? It's great.
I DONT THINK THE CAMERA IS GOOD, BUT I THINK THAT THE VIDEOGRAPHER AND EDITOR ARE GOOD !
I have the same camera and thought the same as you. until I started using more advanced settings and have achieved similar results. It's a matter of practicing and taking courses. wonderful things can be accomplished, even with an iPhone.
Kagi shibbun no jitsu!
Great colour grading man. Wow. I am speechless. Please make some guidance videos on how do you colour grade.
Same as what a lot of other people have said - this looks amazing! How intensive was the colour grading for this?
i have got Sony ZV 1 as well but your videography skills are excellant
Looks great
Wow this is beautiful. Could you share your settings in camera and also color correcting?
Amazing
You kept the promise 😊😉👍🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wow! Amazing the perth! I living in perth:)
Really great cinematic footage from the ZV-1! Can I ask if you used a gimbal or slider? Or were the sliding movements done in post with Premiere or Final Cut Pro? Also how do you like the focusing on the ZV-1? Do you find the manual focus to be very difficult?
Realy nice.
this video is AWESOME!! I just purchased my sony zv1 today, im using a micro SD card since that's the only one I have available right now, when I try to do slow motion videos it doesn't let me do it, says that I need a compatible SD card. Which SD card would you recommend to do these types of video (like this one). Also, would you consider to make a video tutorial on how to achieve the footage from this video? I would appreciate if you respond since I literally don't know anyone who knows about cameras haha thank you in advance
Impressive work nice
What an amazing video. Im a beginner filmaker. Hope someday I can make just an awesome videos just like you did. 💪
Good camera 🎥
heading to Masters practice round on Monday and needed to get a camera delivered on short order - thank you for confirming that this is the one!!!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching too ☺️☺️
I have this camera and I am a learner to all this videography stuff. Love what you have filmed. Can I ask you use HLG2, did you colour grade this footage? Or is it straight out of camera? Thank you so much
Amazing video !!! Even the first sequences where we can see the Zv1 on the table is captured with a Zv1 ?
amazing
Please put tutorials on how to make cinematic videos with the camera. I’m interested in the apps you used to edit the colors and such
Can you share your color grading settings for this one? This is beautiful!!
Please answer me.
It has a sonny zv-1.
I did the same setting you told me.
hlg2, and...
And I also bought the filmconvert program.
Which one did you choose from "film stock"?
No matter how hard I try to produce a similar feeling as you, it's too much for me.
Give me some tips.
Please.
Me: Is it ZV1 or ZV-1?
DSI Pictures: Yes
On more question--you say the sensor is tighter than RX100VA? Would I be giving anything up by switching to ZV-1? Is the video still 6K (or something) downsampled to 4K like on the RX100VA?
I just got this camera and I love it! I have an unboxing and videos of this camera on my channel. Great compact camera.
Hey, I love the footage! What picture profile were you using and the settings?
thanks i’m selling all my full frame gear for this small little gadget. as i grow older i think i’m way attracted to, the ease of point and shoot.
Hi, when using PP10 in this video, did you do a lot of grading to do afterwards? Or just simple basic corrections like saturation, contrast, etc?
Can you tell me please, In your opinion, which camera shoots video better sony ZV-1 VS Canon m6 mark II lens 22mm f2.0, for you to choose ! Thanks!
Nice video. Can I ask what slider do you use? Is it affordable?
Hi! Great video! How do you slowly rotate camera like in 1:11?
Have you colour graded these footages?
WOW !
How long does battery last recording 4k? Are they waterproof?
Ohh men....that's best....🖤🇱🇰
Very nice. What type of gimbal do you use?
Hi, this is the best zv-1's film i've ever seen! I noticed that sometimes you changed the aperture from 1.8, 2.8, etc. Please share your reason about that, thank you :)
Wow it's really awesome. Which editor was used?
How do you grade in Filmconvert (curve/film)? I am having such a hard time with the camera packs, the ZV-1 specific profile for HLG just destroys colours in resolve ofx. Do you record in HLG2 2020 or 709?
what gimbal did you use?
Looks great! Can you say a bit more about your settings and how you color graded (or which LUT you used)? Did you sharpen in post? I've found the RX100V / ZV-1 to be a bit soft. Also, when shooting in HLG, are you overexposing at all to get a good result? I'm used to shooting Cine2 on these cameras but may have to give HLG a try.
Thank you very much. I graded on “FilmConvert Pro”. And I used the HLG2 for the picture profile. You don’t have to overexpose for the HLG just like what you would normally do for S-log. The ZV-1 uses a brand new lens comparing to RX100VA. So maybe that was the reason why it was sharper 😉
@@dsipictures i have a interview based doc movie project. I decided before to buy a7 iii , but it is expensive, so professional n complicated. What do you think if i will buy zv1? I planning to shoot slog. This will be my 1st movie and i will participate in festivals.
Better than most canon dslr
Perth is Beautiful.
Why did you dont do luts? Great job!
Hello! What is the time limit in 4K footage?
friend it looks very spectacular please give us the LUT you used I would appreciate it and if you modified the PP10 profile, in advance congratulations friend it looks excellent I am not very expert with colorimetry I barely know the basics I would like you to give us the LUT you used, congratulations for your work😃👍
been waiting for this type of video for this camera!...hows low light for cinematic?
I didn’t have time to test out the lowlight. I might do another video just for the lowlight 😉
🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
0:54... what is that guy thinking?! "I'm going to chill on a rail". LOL
WOWWWWWW ! You think this would be a good camera for music videos? Thanks in advance !
Quick question I have the Sony zv1 why doesn't my footage come as this when I upload to UA-cam
Nice video.. 👍👍👍
Zv1 have native iso for slog3? Like 800 or 3200?
Did you color grade this or did some color manipulation on post?
Hi beautiful video - question - on the slow pans did you use stabalisation or a gimbal.
Thank you very much, I used the slider for those slow movements ☺️
Awsome job, a couple of question if you don't mind.
1st it says 25p 100 Mbps, I don't have it only 24p or 30p, it was a mistake or maybe I had a different version?
2nd do you colour grade this film?
Thanks and again, awsome job
Thank you very much. 25P is a PAL version. You can simply change from NTSC to PAL in the menu. Then you can use 25p. And yes, I did colour graded in post with the “FilmConvert Pro” plug in 😉
Beautiful video and lovely music !!
What sort of camera rig do you use? I love the smoothness of your shots!
I used the Edelkrone slider for all the movements 😉
WOW
Sony a6000 266usd or zv1 466usd?
Please what did you edit this on. Name of software or link please
Is it color graded??
Gimbal?
