Nice Job! I cut the hole for the fittings on my 15 gallon tank. To mount mine, I am taking a 12' long web strap and I have a spot on the wall i can wrap it around and a mounting plate on the floor, I wood block front and back to hold it in place. Nothing like running water and a shower! Next spring I will add the water heater. Happy Travels

far out Mel I have a 300 litre water tank with a 18 litre hot water service , if my wife and daughter come away they empty the 300 litres in a day , yes always turn the pump off ,, My tanks hang under the winnebago outside underneath but they are held up with battons so I can't see a drama mate ,,
Anyhow its beer o'clock here in OZ , I didn't get to Botany Bay this weekend the weather is terrible here at the moment ,,

You could make the pump quieter by adding a layer of foam/rubber between the pump mountings and your piece of wood and another layer between the wood and the framing you have attached it to. Inside water fillers are a great idea - particularly for stealth vans - you can have them on the back of kitchen cabinets by the slider too - just need the right funnel to use your method of filling up without the effort. That tank looks good, might fit flat under a kitchen unit nicely - then you could have the gauge visible too - Humble Road did a similar gauge - very simple but effective.

Most vans have places to attach ratchet straps which have at least 1 tonne rating eg the ratchet strap can stop a 1 tonne pallet from moving whilst the vehicle is moving which is more than enough capabilitg to stop 60 litres of water moving etc

You could use the pump to fill a small 5 litre tank in a cupboard higher than your water tap. That would need a return pipe to the main tank. Fill the five litre tank once a day as you need to. You could have that feeding your sink water tap, gravity fed with no noise. Fill the little 5 litre tank during a time you don't mind pump noise for 5 minutes then the rest of the time you have silent gravity fed water for stealth or simply undisturbed peace. One of my better ideas lol. I like your fill point 👍👍👍

Just a thought, I personally would put a upright on the side of the tank fixed to the bottom of the bed to the floor to satisfy myself that the tank could not possibly move sideways. The tank would be quite heavy when full as you mentioned. I know how to wire it up and safely rout the water pipes and breather but there err those that don’t. As for noise is it such a problem for the few seconds its on? Like I said good job, stay safe🚐☕️☕️👍🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌈🙏🏼💙❤️💙❤️

Batons under tank... Will the weight of the water crack the tank with the vibration of driving, I thought plastic tanks in a house have to be supported on a flat surface to spread the load and not stress the plastic. ... could you put a board across the batons, the board could be changed if you have an issue.

@@leatherkid02 Hi. I think it is called PTFE tape. This would work, but would probably need to be replaced every time the lid was unscrewed as it is not robust and designed for a permanent fixed installation. It is used to seal hydraulic and high air pressure fittings. Possibly a thin layer of gaffer type around the lid screw threads might offer a more efficient solution to the effect of vehicle vibration, bearing in mind that the contents of the tank are not pressurised. Mel is pretty imaginative and i am sure he will find a solution.

Hi Mel, i have a similar tank with the same pipework etc. Can i ask; does the breather pipe go from the inlet with the main pipe to the tank? Top of the tank? It came with no instructions so a little confused as i am mounting my inlet in the side of the van. Cheers bud

The filler point was wonderful but the filler in the tank is just waiting to vibrate loose. The hold down strap may slip off sideways too. I don’t want to be negative as I think you are the working man thinker.

6L is the amount of water per minute rating of the heater to raise ice cold winter water to 40C for a hot shower. Roughly double it to change into kW = 12kW. The trigger flow to turn them on is done by a magnetic float valve that triggers a hall sensor. They operate down to as little as 1L per minute. The larger units are 12L and 16L (24kW/ 32 kW) are very large heaters with a proper flu connection. I fitted my portable 6L propane gas heater on the side of my shower cupboard. They are brilliant gas heaters i had mine for years long before the van for camping. Its even been used as a 12v pumped recirc paddling pool heater for the kids. One thing I changed is the battery holder for ignition takes two D batteries and they don't last very long so i changed mine to a single 3.6v 18650 battery holder cos i got loads of them.
Together with the chinese diesel heaters these two items for about 100 quid each are game changers. Heated vans with hot showers!

The outdoor gas instant water heaters may need 6L a minute to activate the burner I think. But you maybe lucky.

Mel’s Van World your right but there is a minimum flow rate to trigger the burner, i bought the grey 12v water pump you recommend about 18 months ago for £6 off eBay and when the water has to travel over 6ft height there’s not enough pressure to trigger the burner. But yours will only have to travel about 4ft . Great videos mate been following you since 200subs 👍

I love your channel Mel, but I'm purging all my subs that have so much advertising. They drive me crazy. The reason I started watching UA-cam is because it was independent people sharing their knowledge and interests. Slowly but surely it's turning into another commercial enterprise.
