    I had the joys of fitting my grey water tank last weekend. Only thing I did different was to put the outlet fitting in the bottom of the tank and not the side. As you have it, the 10 litres you put in will always be below the outlet where you have it. And that will start to smell as you can never get rid of it... 👍

      That is a good point but if u have or fit a a 'u bend' that should cause an air lock to stop any smell coming back up the pipe. Could just be a sweeping 's' in the pipe below the sink👍

    well done young fella, only things i did different was the air release overflow on my tank was simply a hole drilled into th tank at the top, didnt see the need to have a fitting like you and i also put the waste outlet on the bottom of the tank, i didnt want any water left in the tank that could smell eventually and we have a small grate type thing on our plughole that catches any food bits like rice etc and stops them going down to the waste tank, its removeable so i just put the food bits in the bin if we get any.

  • @stephenlipton525
    @stephenlipton525 3 роки тому +1

    If you put a quick release hose coupler on the end of the drain pipe you can fill the tank easily with fresh every so often to flush the tank. It will also serve as a quick fix to push any food waste back out of the dump valve which could save you a trip below the van to manually clear it.
    Drop a little bleach or sterilising fluid down the sink, fill the tank either via the sink or using a hose Let it sit overnight then empty next morning and hey presto. Fresh tank if you need to lay the van up for a while. Nothing worse smelling than a stagnant grey water tank. (Well maybe a black tank could be worse)
    Keep the videos coming. Love them. Regards Steve (Belfast N Ireland)

    I think the clue was in the lack of flow when you disconnected the solenoid pipe. The tank seemed to have a lot of depth underneath your outlet. Also the outlet pipe appeared to be going uphill from your tank. Great idea though and something to work on.👍

    If you bend the discharge pipe higher than the bottom of your tank, it will never empty itself completely, since water does not climb, and as I see your pipe bends upwards, also the attachment to your bumper seems to me slightly higher than your water tankfloor

    I couldn't see if you have some form of u bend below the sink. If not you will definitely need something to stop smells from waste tank coming back at you. If the outlet was on the bottom of the tank nearly all water will drain off, rather than as you have it. I would put a neoprene cover over inspection hole using velcro so that protected from dirt etc. so nice to give you more space inside and hopefully once switch working easier to empty. 😎

    Good plan to use the spare wheel cradle and the tank is a perfect fit! Can you tie up your waste pipe so it isn't lower than the fill point on the tank? Looks to be quite a bit below. That little grey fitting with the bowl bit underneath is a smell trap - fit it under your sink - its the campervan equivalent of a U bend. A better way of dealing with food scraps would be to stop them going down the plug hole with a strainer 😄 I got irrigation hose too, mainly as it is smooth on the inside - so can't go yucky. Stick with the manual tap, as some places are pretty strict on where you dump waste water, and you don't want to get in bother if you press the wrong switch and dump the tank by accident .

      if you have the depth, just put a loop in the waste pipe, possibly right under the sink - it achieves the same thing.
      Also, put the inlet at the back of the tank - if you have a full tank and go down a steep hill, the water can make it's way back through the waste pie, but if the hole is at the back, it cant. Not so critical on a sink but if there is a shower there too it can be a disaster.
      Did the solenoid work before it was plumbed in? It should do even without pressure

  • @texdog2772
    @texdog2772 3 роки тому +1

    Mel I think I would of rana bottom drain with a 90 deg fitting. Is your drain pipe smooth inside or is it like the outside, if like outside that would slow the draining alot. Can't you use PVC or ABS pipe for drain after it gets under van. Straight and always heading down hill. Like the tank. Good luck PS I would look for a larger drain valve . Maybe a mechanical gate valve with a heavy spring set up to close after dumping. Pull rod or cable to dump and let spring close it by pulling handle shut.

    That solenoid is going to cause you issues (low flow/blocking) and adding a waste pump is also going to cause problems. Get a 12v motorised valve - you want a CR04 type that you just apply power to it to open, and when you switch it off there is a charge stored inside that it uses to fully close the valve. Just be careful as they sell “full port” and “reduced port” valves. The reduced port ones have a much smaller hole in the valve body than the fittings at the end. If using 19mm waste pipe be sure the hole in the valve that turns is this size or bigger.

    I think the angle you are parked and the little amount of water in the tank is the reason you didn’t see anything flow from the electric valve. Look at how slow the water trickled out when you changed the pipe over to your old manual valve drain. I would give it another go when there’s more water in the tank to creat some pressure to flow through your electric valve. Give us an update please when you look at it again.

    Is the solenoid valve 12v or 240v?

      @@BigVanSmallWorld Really. If its a 3.4 kilo ohm resistance solenoid designed to work at 240v, it's not going to work at 12v. Just asking.

    You shoud've put a GOOD 30 litres in there Mel .... You're living on 'Hopes and Dreams' with only 10 in a tank that size .... OOPS!! ;-)

    The more weight you carry behind the axle is not good. You will have the tail wagging the dog😂😂. If the LPG stations start getting fewer and fewer I was thinking about putting my spare wheel on my back door and put in the 50 L gas tank where the spare wheel was. But up to now I have no problem getting gas so that is excuse the pun still on the back burner. Stay safe🚐☕️☕️👍🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌈🙏🏼💙❤️💙❤️

    I'm sure youve realized it by now, but your design for the empty is off - the tank cant empty up like that. The tube from the tank needs to be parallel or traveling beneath the tank for it to empty unless you attach pump...

    Your drain point on your water tank is lower than the exit point of your hose.
