    I have the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers that are powered by a Marantz receiver in a small living room. I am always surprised to hear how much bass this pair produces given its small stature. I highly recommend them if you want good performance for a competitive price.

    I have two pair of Pioneer BS-22. I love how they look and sound. The size, appearance and detailing are amazing for $99/pair. Playing electronic music at high volume, my class D Crown XLS 1002 is rated 350 wpc (max) @ 4 ohms, and these speakers have survived this abuse for more than two years. They seem to handle plenty of power without noticeable distortion (your results may vary).

    I have a pair of Micca MB42X with a budget Polk sub-woofer connected to my PC (w/ one of those tiny low watt desktop amps) and they sound great. They were like $75. They're great budget speakers, especially for a desktop.
    Also, Z Reviews just gave a raving review of these speakers comparing them to a, get this, smaller Buchardts. I am tempted to get a pair just to check them out. (and I have a pair of Zu Dirty Weekends on the way). Shit, for a $130 it would be worth the effort.

    Sadly, I had to return the RB42s. Bought them to replace desk speakers b/c they are much smaller than what I've been using for the past 5 years (Fluance SX6). Using Schiit Modi 2 Multibit dac and an Emotiva minix a-100 amp. There is a grit in the mid bass that I just could not get out with either JRiverMC EQ or MiniDSP. It's in the 150-300hz range, but is nearly untamable. I tried for several days and could not make myself like these speakers. I liked them better alone than with any sub (tried them with a JBL PB10, BIC F12 and dual Def Tec ProSub 800s). Upon taking them down and re-installing the SX6's, it's clear that the SX6's are far superior.

    I bought a pr of micca rb42s. For the money, they are awesome, fill my small room 10x16 with excellent sound. I recommend self-powered sub(s), good cable and interconnect, and at least 75 watts pc, to bring them to larger than life. Oh, the best sound is w/ a 100hz high pass filter in the line from your sub. That allows them to breathe, without causing over modulation trying to reproduce 40hz.

    They might be competitors in the US, Steve, but I can assure you that the Pioneer retail chain here saw to it that anything associated with Andrew Jones has a price completely out of whack with what they cost in the States. I wont bore you with the gory details but I could have the Miccas delivered to my door for a hell of a lot less than the Pioneer, and I don't consider either a good candidate for the living room. I get that we pay for local warranties, but the after-sales 'service' offered by many of the distributors here is abysmal, particularly when the margin is as low as it must be on the BS22. Too many retailers here want to be just lie the big box guys - zero customer relationship, get it off the floor and into a customer's car then move on to the next chump, er, customer. I welcome Micca, Edifier, Fiio and others with open arms.
    Thanks for the video.

      I'm in a similar situation. I brought my old early 90's era Sony CD player down from the attic. My understanding is that the digital-to-audio conversion that happens inside the machine is probably not on par with modern technology. So, it probably doesn't sound as good as a modern CD player or if you were to bypass the unit's internal DAC and use a separate one. (My unit does not have a digital out, so I don't think I'd be able to hook up an external DAC.) My set up sounds fine to me but I don't have a lot of experience and haven't done any listening comparisons. I would be very curious to know how much of an improvement I could expect with a better CD player.

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 5 років тому

      You don't understand digital.
      At any rate, digital has to be converted to analogue. DAC chips and filters have come a long way since 1994.
      Also the cost of a CD player also reflects the quality of the drive and power supply. Not all digital sections are created equal as well. The 0s and 1s thing is deceiving and not even technically correct. Most people don't understand all the aspects of digital and resort to the 0s and 1s nonsense.

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt

      @@victorsixtythree A vast difference. Even the best Sony CD players from the 90s although super smooth, sounded flat and lifeless. My recommendation is to pickup a really nice player from around 2008 used. Many players that were $3000 to $5000 can be had for about $400 and you will get many of the benefits of modern DACs plus some new features.

    That's also like comparing a $1,300 mattress to a $999 mattress. Or a $130,000 house to a $99,000 house. The difference in price isn't insignificant. For someone with such a budget, you're asking them to forego a large basket of ramen noodles to get roughly equal audio in exchange. If the Micca doesn't kick the Pioneer's ass, give me the Pioneer and the noodles.

    Micca is easily the better looking speaker

    , try the Fluance SX-6.
    absolutely fabulous speakers especially for the money. exactly the same as the Micca RB.in cost.
    the Fluance has a 5 inch woofer and a gigantic box so they have good base & toneality to them. the tweeters are very bright when you first get them and the woofer is a little weak also so they need about 20 hours or so of burn in so to speak. I have the White pair, I love them.

      I just posted that I returned the RB42s after purchasing them to replace the SX6s due to smaller size. The SX6 is in another class than the Micca RB42. It just is. Had mine since ~2014, I keep trying to better them, and I keep failing.

    • @jmakc3541

      @Huds S Sorry, I have never heard the Pioneers, nor the Signature Series by Fluance. However, since returning the RB42's, I purchased a set of Emotiva B1+'s to try them out. I sent those back, as well. The SX6 is still king on my desk. I truly think it's the tweeter and the big box combo that make this speaker work. They call it a 1" soft dome, but it measures closer to 1.5" dia. Also, my SX6's are from 2014. As I understand it, Fluance has tweaked the SX6 to be a bit brighter now. Good luck to you.

    As a general rule there is a price I will never go below when it comes to speakers. These two speakers are below that point. They may be decent sounding speakers and they most likely are but you do get what you pay for. So I’m thinking more value for a little more dollars.

    So you are saying the mica do not strip you ear drums with the Pioneer sharp peak, or that uncontrolled no musical slightly booming bass. For the money the pioneer is a fun occasional speaker to listen to. I own the pioneer BS 22s and the BS 21s as comparison

  • @carloscolon4295
    @carloscolon4295 4 роки тому +1

    The pioneer can't handle the bass..the micca is just the one hell of a speaker and speaking of size the pioneer is just about the same size speaker it just the cabinet is bigger the micca is deeper in a small little box

    So, to recap: The Pioneers reveal more information, will play louder, have superior base and cost significantly less (based on percentage), but the Micca is the winner. Got it.

    Buying gud speakers is worst than buying a car...you NEVER know wut you get until you set it up as home for a week or 2. Also the mark-up $$$ is HORRENDOUS for som brands! A $100 pair can sound just as gud or better than a $500 pair...and the average consumer doesn't know shite about sound quality. It's such a crap shoot when you go to stores and worst shopping online.

    Steve how about playing some music on them while you tell us your reactions. A speaker is a machine that produces sound, just like a car is a machine made to be rolling on the streets.

      @Daniel Combs It´s so he can play music and comment alone how he feels and his emotions with different genders of music. Its like reviewing a car. it is not meant to compare speakers as your computer´s speakers are different than mine.
